A few people wanted to see when Kol got a pacifier. This turned out into a fluffy piece that's mostly Elijah and Rebekah bickering, with Hayley wanting a drink. Also, Klaus is there because let's be real, that's Kol's favorite sibling.

I was also inspired to write this when I found some pacifiers while doing research for my fics!

For someone who once had the "Do what you wish, I'm staying out of it" approach to Kol and Elijah's dynamic, Rebekah's greatly changed her tune over the years. Elijah has Matt to thank for that. Given he's Kol's favorite babysitter, Rebekah's spent more time with her brother when he's younger. It's hard for anyone to not be enamored by the cheeky little boy.

So, she does what Rebekah does best: shopping.

As if Kol doesn't already have an expansive closet, Rebekah purchases even more clothes. To her credit, they're mostly for when he's younger. She's found some shops that sell childlike things in older sizes. There's websites for people who drop like Kol. As it is, there always seems to be some package arriving. Now, there's occasionally one for Kol.

Elijah finds Hayley and Rebekah going through a new box. There's mountains of clothes folded up throughout the living room.

"I know onesies were a bust," Rebekah says. "So, I got him more two-piece jammies. It was made for people with sensory issues." She holds up a light blue set with little sharks over it.

Hayley grins. "He's going to look so cute in those."

"Question, if I may," Elijah proposes. The two look up at him, Rebekah already irritated. "When exactly will Kol have time to where all of this?"

"We're immortal, wanker," Rebekah quips back. "He has an entire lifetime."

"Language, young lady," he warns.

She throws her hands in the air. "I'm about to be a bride, Elijah. You can hardly scold me for my language."

"I do Niklaus, so you'll have to find a way to get over it."

Rebekah rolls her eyes, going back to the clothes. Hayley's pursing her lips, clearly holding back a giggle. Elijah has to duck his head so his sister doesn't see his smile.

"Anyway, before my annoying brother interrupted," Rebekah says. "All of this should be safe. There's no tags or anything. All soft fabrics."

"Thank you, Rebekah," Hayley says. "I think this will help him feel a little more comfortable when he drops."

"Exactly. Oh, I remember you said you wanted to curb the thumb sucking…"

Rebekah digs through the box and produces a package. Hayley gets one look and bursts into a fit of giggles. Elijah steps closer and plucks the product from his sister's grip. There's two pacifiers, both white with gray sparkles and lettering.

One reads "Pull To Sound The Alarm" and the other "Mute Button".

Elijah scoffs. "These are going back."

"Oh, no, they're not," Hayley says, snatching them away. "Kol agreed to try pacifiers. You said it was a good idea."

"Yes, and I shall purchase him suitable ones. Those are gaudy."

"They're fun, 'Lijah," Rebekah counters. "Which is perhaps why you don't like them."

Elijah narrows his eyes. "I am plenty fun. I just do not see the point of having my son walk around with something in his mouth that reads "Mute Button"."

"It's exactly what Kol needs."

Hayley snorts. Elijah shoots her a look, causing her to roll her eyes. "Honey, chill. It's all in good fun. Kol will hardly be offended."

Kol's voice drifts from the archway. "Offended by what?"

He joins the group and looks at the pacifiers in his mother's hands. Kol fidgets, his cheeks turning bright red. Elijah wraps an arm around him, pulling his little boy close.

"See," Elijah kisses his head. "Not to worry, Little Prince. You won't have to use them."

Hayley studies her son for a moment. "Lovebug, is it what's on the pacifier?" Kol shrugs. "Or, are you having second thoughts on the concept all together."

Elijah frowns as Kol averts his gaze. He gently tips his chin up so he can look the pouting boy in the eye.

They grew concerned about Kol's thumb sucking habit after he continued to bite his skin. While the wounds were temporary, the blood often freaked out Kol when he dropped. He began sucking on his pillow case, but that didn't help. So, the family agreed to try the pacifier.

"There is no shame in this, Little Prince," Elijah assures him.

"'m not a baby," Kol mumbles. "Shouldn't need it."

"You do. Sucking on something helps you regulate. As it's hurting your poor thumb, we need to find an alternative."

Hayley rises to stand beside her husband. "If you don't like it, we can try another method. There are those teething rings."

Kol vehemently shakes his head. "That's worse."

"Can you give it a chance? As I said, if you hate it, we'll get rid of them and never speak of it again."

Kol glances at Rebekah. She nods, holding up her hands.

"Won't say a word," she promises.

"Not to Matt?" Kol assesses.

Rebekah nods. They all know how much Kol looks up to Matt and wants to seem cool around him. "Not to Matt, Marcel, Klaus, Caroline, anyone. It will stay in this room."

Elijah rubs his shoulder. "What do you say? Shall Daddy get you a better pacifier?"

Kol eyes the package in his mother's hand. He cracks a small smile as he reads the text. Hayley matches it, ruffling his hair. Elijah sighs.

"Don't tell me you like these," he admonishes.

"They're funny," Kol glances at Rebekah. "Take it you picked these, Bex?"

Rebekah chuckles. "Yes. Can't say I haven't wished for these before. A nice way to get you to shut up."

"Rebekah!" Elijah gasps.

"It's fine, Dad, relax," Kol says, pulling away from him.

Hayley opens the packaging and removes the "Mute Button". She hands it to Kol. He plays with the pacifier for a moment, examining each side. His fingers run around each of the sides and the front, clearly making sure the glitter is glued on and won't come off.

Kol slowly opens his mouth and sticks it in. His lips wiggle a bit. Elijah holds back a small "awe". In spite of the crude saying on the front, he does look quite adorable. He imagines he'll be even more so in one of the outfits that Rebekah picked out. Hayley is already on the verge of tears, though she quickly blinks them away. She rubs Kol's arm.

"You suck on it like you do your bottle," she explains. "No different."

Little by little, Kol complies. Soon, soft sucking noises take over the room. Hayley takes a picture with her phone, causing Kol to turn into his dad's chest. Elijah smiles, hugging him close.

"Here," Rebekah says. She walks over to them, holding some sort of gray tether in her hand. Gently, she tugs Kol away from Elijah, eliciting a slight whine from both. She rolls her eyes and attaches one end of the tether to the pacifier, clipping the other end to his sweatshirt. "This way, it won't go missing. You can take it out to eat or talk."

Kol nods, tugging on it a little. His voice comes out a little muffled, lisped. "Th'nk y'u, Bex."

Rebekah smiles, tweaking his nose. "You're welcome, Koley."

Elijah can't break his smile as Kol continues to suck on his pacifier. He's wearing his standard sweats, but still seems so much younger with this in his mouth. Elijah settles on the couch and pulls Kol onto his lap so he can hold him. His little one doesn't protest, instead wrapping his arms around his neck. Elijah gently rocks him, listening to the content sucking noise.

Klaus wanders into the living room, at first only seeing the mountains of clothes. "Rebekah, did you leave any for others?"

Rebekah scoffs, shaking her head. "Pathetic. Elijah spends a fortune on suits, you buy those weird, overpriced paintbrushes. I choose to spoil my baby brother and suddenly, I've got the problem."

"I merely jest, Sister." Klaus glances over at Elijah, his smile softening when he sees Kol. "Well, look at that." He walks closer and reads the pacifier, snorting. "We could've used that about 1,000 years ago," he teases, tickling Kol's tummy, causing his little brother to giggle and hold out his arms.

Elijah grumbles as Klaus takes Kol from him. "You all are horrible for enabling that awful thing."

"Oh, here," Rebekah proclaims, sounding exasperated.

She produces another package from the box, tossing it at Elijah. He inspects it. This time, there's just one pacifier inside. It's black, with the Gucci logo imprinted on it. The little ring around it is still plastic, but silver. Elijah grins, looking back at his irritated sister.

"Thank you, Rebekah," he says, getting up to kiss her cheek.

"Yeah, yeah," she says. "Also…"

Rebekah pulls out a soft, white sweatshirt that reads "My First Gucci" in gold lettering. Elijah just as eagerly picks it up. Hayley scoffs.

"Yes, because that's not gaudy in the slightest."

Elijah smirks. "So glad you agree, darling."

He walks over and plucks the pacifier out of Kol's mouth. He whimpers for a moment, making grabby hands. Yet, as soon as it's switched for the knock-off Gucci, he's content once more, resting his head on Klaus' shoulder.

"I suppose there could be worse things," Hayley says, smiling at her son. "At least he's happy."

"Very spoiled," Klaus adds, bouncing Kol a bit. "But, very happy nonetheless."

How far we have come that Rebekah is buying baby stuff for Kol *and* Kol feels comfortable acting young around all of them.
