Chapter 3
One of the strange things about doing something that scares the living daylights out of someone is that they seem to think that what you did was wicked. Lucy wondered why they just didn't say 'cool' 'awesome' or 'neat.' Lucy didn't really do much during lunch, except maybe to avoid the black hole that was Ron Weasley again. The afternoon was Transfiguration, which was taught by Professor McGonagall.
"Transfiguration is the most complex and dangerous magic that you'll learn at Hogwarts. Anyone messing around in my class will be asked to leave and not return. You've been warned!"
And then she turned her desk into a pig and back again.
Everyone was impressed, including Lucy, and they soon discovered that it would be a long time before they turned furniture into animals. They were all given a lot of complicated notes to write down and then they were given a match. McGonagall told them that they had to change it into a needle. Lucy took out the wand that Dumbledore had given her and, while everyone wasn't looking, she had the mantel turn her match into a very pretty needle. It even had little stones in it, which all glittered in the candlelight.
She earned Gryffindor fifty points for that, which made Hermione glare at her. Neville predicted that Hermione was about to go off the deep end. Once the lesson was over, which McGonagall kept the needle, they all pitched their things and headed for dinner. As they entered the Great Hall Lucy was called over by Snape.
"I'll see you later," she told Harry and Neville and joined him.
"Showing off, again, Lucy," he asked her.
"You're not going to tell my parents are you?" Lucy asked him, hoping that he wouldn't.
"Of course not," he said. "I stay as far away from your parent's house as I can. Still, showing off isn't a good thing to do."
Lucy sighed and said, "I'm sorry. It's just everyone here acts as though magic is this complicated thing."
"For a lot of students, it can be," Snape told her. "However, you've been given a lot of power as the Winter Lady. And I know that it's part of the program to show off. To show the power of the court. However, try and not make people want to kill you."
"Including Granger."
Snape sighed and said, "I haven't had Granger in my class. But, including her."
"Fine, I'll keep my mouth shut."
"Good girl," he said and Snape left the castle, most likely to feed.
"So what did he want?" Neville asked when Lucy sat down at the Gryffindor table.
"He told me that I need to stop showing off," Lucy said.
"I guess he doesn't like the stuff that you did."
Lucy said nothing to that.

Harry Dresden had to admit that he really missed his little girl. Yes, he knew that she could handle herself. But, that didn't mean that he didn't miss her. He got one letter from her, telling him that she had been sorted into Gryffindor.
"She'll be back before you know it," Bob told him.
"I know that, but I still miss her."
Harry still couldn't believe how much his life had changed. Before Connie had become the unintended Winter Queen he had helped her out several times over the years. Including saving her father's life from an officer that was taking people's second chances. After that, it had grown from there. Before he knew it they were married and Lucy was on the way. Connie thought she might be too old to be a mother again, but that had proven to not be true.
A sudden knock on the door tore Harry away from his thoughts and he saw Bianca standing on the other side. What the hell did she want? Harry walked over and opened the door.
"Is your Winter Queen wife here?" she asked.
"No," Harry answered. "What brings you here?"
"I'm having a bit of problem at my business," she told him. "And I need you to help me get rid of it."
"And what has infested your place?"
"Maenads," she answered.
Have you ever seen a bunch of insane people running around, tearing people apart, blood on the walls? Well, if you haven't then count yourself lucky. Because that's what Maenads did. Followers of Dionysus, doesn't give a damn about Accords, and are insane for wine. Upon arriving Harry found several of Bianca's customers, including a couple Red Court vamps, dead. Well vampires are already dead, they just look like something that was probably in their nightmares when they had been alive.
"Get out of my place," she demanded of at least seven of them.
"Oh and why should we do that?" one of them asked. "We want wine, we demand it, and we will have it."
It was going to be one long night.

Lucy's first week had passed pretty quickly. Snape, proving to be as cold as her godmother, made Harry feel less about himself. Lucy had to explain that no one knows if the coldness is due to him being Red Court or if he was always like that. Even her mother didn't know how much of the original personality remained after the change. Naturally her mother could come from experience. The mantel of the Winter Queen could turn someone cold and distant.
Thankfully her mother had her father to keep the mantel from turning her too much into Mab. She had heard stories of the old Winter Queen and how she was trying to get her father to become the Winter Knight. During Potions Snape had paired her up with Harry. She figured that Snape still had some humanity left. Now, it was the weekend and Lucy sent another letter home.
Hello, father,
I hope that you're doing well and that mom is good. How are my sisters doing? I know that Maggie misses me and I miss all of you. I have to let you know that we have a Potions Master name Severus Snape. Yeah, the one that's dating Bianca and is Red Court. I swear I think that he's going to spend the whole year doing something strange. Of course he waved to me, with that grin on his face that tells me that he telling all of you if I mess up.
Have to put up with some annoying girl name Hermione Granger. However, I have faith that I can make her act like a normal human being. All my classes are boring, but I have some pretty awesome Professors. Even Snape, if you want to believe that. Still, can't wait for the Christmas break.
With Love,
Lucy
It vanished into the Nevernever and was gone.

"Got a letter from our baby," Connie said to Harry, who had come back to the Winter Court after the whole thing with the Maenads.
"I hope that it's better than my week's been."
Connie read it over and said, "Looks like Bianca's boyfriend is teaching Potions. And trying to embarrass her."
"Bianca, has a boyfriend," Harry said, shocked. "Didn't think she would get tied down."
Connie smiled and said, "Never thought I would get tied down with a wizard. Guess life is just a strange thing."
Harry agreed with that.

"My life is just too strange," Lucy told Neville and Harry.
"Where did this come from?" Harry asked.
Lucy looked at him and said, "I have the right to have an opinion."
"True, but it doesn't mean that you're making any sense," he said.
It was another Magical Theory class and all Lucy wanted to do was die of boredom. Professor Spineheart was becoming her least favorite teacher. The only upside was that Hermione didn't talk at all. She was too busy worshiping the ground that Spineheart walked on. After the class they headed to lunch.

"Is this a joke?" Harry asked them as they entered the Common Room on Tuesday.
"What's wrong?" Ron asked.
"We have Flying Lessons on Thursday and it's with Slytherin."
"I doubt it will be that bad," Lucy assured him.
"Just what I wanted to do. Make a fool of myself on a broom in-front of Malfoy."
Lucy knew that Malfoy and Harry didn't get along.
"Harry, you don't know if you'll make a fool of yourself," Ron said. "I heard Malfoy talking and I bet it's just that, talk."
Everyone knew that Malfoy liked to boast about flying. In-fact it all seem to end with him narrowly escaping mortals in helicopters. Lucy rolled her eyes every time he attempted to tell one of these stories.
"What about you?" Ron asked Lucy.
"Never flew a broom," she admitted. "And my father doesn't either."
"That's odd?" he said.
"He drives a car," Lucy told him. "So, he doesn't need a broom."
"Oh wait until I tell my father about your dad," he said. "My dad just loves anything that comes from the muggle world."
Lucy really doubted that Mr. Weasley would like her father. Or, he might. She really wasn't sure.
