Politics and the Nox
The news that a small force of soldiers from the SGC, UNSC Marine Corps and ten Spartans had captured what intelligence indicated as the nearest equivalent to a Goa'uld battleship had spread fast across Earth. The people of Earth were rejoicing that the first ground skirmish that the UNSC had with the Goa'uld was an overwhelming victory. For the politic factions this had highlighted that increasing the military budget and raising large forces for the war with the Goa'uld was perhaps the right direction to go in at the moment. However, they also realised that they would have to revise the recruitment policy slightly because of Jonas Hanson's and Matthew Baker's court martial.
At the Keyes Accords, the governments of the world had agreed that they would hold a regional election in December and a planetary election in late July/early August 1998 as to be able to give the people of Earth time to adjust to the new laws of the UEG and allow political parties to adjust and adapt to the new reality. Constitutional Monarchies would still hold the small amount of power in the regions they held before the 200 countries all being self-governed to the new UEG. Absolute Monarchies would become constitutional monarchies in that time though they would have a greater amount of power compared to the constitutional monarchies that were such to begin with. Republics would just reorganise to fit into the UEG.
They had also agreed to have an interim government made up of the current UN General Assembly President and the 21 Vice Presidents until the elections could be held for each of the nations, multinational unions or multinational regions.
The newly created United Republic of North America had three smaller assemblies in the countries that made it up as well as one larger assembly for the representative from each of the three previous countries. The former President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton, was sat at the table in the meeting room of the White House with his advisors. He had three goals; first, win the election to remain the representative of the former United States of America. Second, win the election to be the representative for the United Republic of North America to the UEG Senate and third, hopefully be elected as the president of the Unified Earth Government.
The first step was already in progress as his signature of the Keyes Accords raised his standing with the population of the now defunct United States. The second part was also relatively easy as the overall population of Canada and Mexico wouldn't tip the scales in either of the favours of the former Mexican President or the Canadian Prime Minister. He only had to work on getting the support of the rest of the world. The EU and Australia would be easier than Asia and Africa as China and Russia alone had a similar sized if not larger population to the URNA.
"We need to find a way to find new technology to incorporate into the military. One way to do this would be to ask our operatives in 'the Mountain' about any tech that could give us an advantage over the Goa'uld." One of Clinton's advisors proposed.
"I agree. However, we would need to bring it back and reverse engineer it to be able to use it. That process will take time." Another said.
"Send someone to speak to UNSC HIGHCOM so they can send people there to find out about any tech. If it can be recovered and reverse engineered then we can use that as a propaganda piece that we suggested the mission and started the process towards making Earth safer." Clinton ordered.
There was a mad scramble of people all attempting to move around the room to prepare for the aftermath of the possible operation.
(1100 Hours/ 11th September 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ Location Briefing Room, UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, URNA)
Hammond had received instructions from UNSC HIGHCOM. They ordered him to speak to anyone on the base that may know about technology that may influence their fight against the Goa'uld for the better. As such the first person that sprang to mind was Teal'c. The somewhat newly promoted Lieutenant Junior Grade was attempting to fit into the new rank he had on the base. Hammond, knew that Teal'c would prefer to find ways to defeat the Goa'uld faster. As such, he knew about technology that would help them.
A Lieutenant from the Office of Naval Intelligence had arrived along with their first shipment of new weapons including MA37s, BR55s, M6Gs, M7s, SRS99s, DMRs, M45Es, AIE-486Hs, SPNKRs and Spartan Lasers.
"Major Williams, please send Lieutenant Teal'c in." Hammond ordered.
"Yes General." Williams responded before opening the door to the hallway where Teal'c was standing.
Teal'c walked into the room and attempted to salute as he was taught to by Jack but it was a bit off as he hadn't practiced it too much as he usually had no need of it. Hammond returned the salute.
"Sit down Teal'c." Hammond said. "This is Lieutenant Elias Haverson of the Office of Naval Intelligence, he is here to as you about any information that may give us a tactical advantage over the Goa'uld. He will be the one asking you the questions today though if I feel the need I will step in and ask some of my own." Hammond said first pointing to the man wearing a crisp black uniform, the enamelled bars to distinguish him as a Lieutenant and a round insigne on his shoulder - the black and silver eagle wings over a trio of stars with the inscription SEMPER VIGILANS to identify him as ONI. He was sat across the table from where Teal'c was going to be sat.
The shook hands giving each other a nod of mutual respect though for both it was purely respect for the other's rank as the had no previous interaction with the other in the past.
"Lieutenant, as you are aware, I am here to retrieve any tactically important information about technology that you may know about that we can acquire to gain an advantage against the Goa'uld." Haverson began. "Do you know any such technology that may be of tactical significance?" He asked.
"I do, there is a creature on an unpopulated world that possesses the power of invisibility." Teal'c relayed.
"By invisible, are you referring to a method of personal stealth capabilities?" Haverson asked interested having seen such technology used by the Covenant during the war.
"That is correct. This creature has the capability to appear an disappear at will. I was once sent to retrieve the creature by Apophis to learn of it's secrets. Two of my men were killed by Apophis for my failure." Teal'c responded creating a sombre atmosphere in the room.
"If we were able to capture a creature then that would give us a significant tactical advantage in any engagement." Haverson said to no-one in particular before turning to General Hammond. "General, may I suggest that you assemble a force to retrieve the creature?" Haverson asked.
"SG-1 will be sent for the retrieval operation." Hammond responded.
"I would like to have an ONI operative to oversee the mission as well as a team here ready to support us should something go wrong. However, I feel that a Spartan fireteam would possibly be a waste of valuable resources." Haverson suggested.
"Well Lieutenant, if you are so eager for someone from the Office of Naval Intelligence to oversee the mission, I am willing to let you be here with a five person strong team for backup for the duration of the mission." Hammond replied earning a look of surprise and a small amount of fear from the ONI officer.
"Thank you General. Give me a day or so to create a briefing and select the members to form the support team and I will gladly accept." Haverson said with a little bit of trepidation in his voice.
"Very well, seeing as I only have seven SG teams, lets focus on this mission before finding another mission for any of them. Dismissed gentlemen." Hammond said standing from his chair before moving to his office. Teal'c left to meditate or service his staff weapon or something else.
Haverson, on the other hand, made his way off the base by warthog and then up to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. As an ONI officer, he had access to most if not all the service records of the personnel in the fleet. As such he began to narrow down the list of names he would need to search through. First, he set up the search engine to only see the Marines and ODSTs. Then he narrowed that down to the Non-Commissioned officers to eliminate the need to remove officers from their units and the soldiers inexperienced in the type of operation that he would be carrying out. Finally he narrowed down the search to those who had served during the Insurrection.
This narrowed down the list of potential candidates down severely as only a few of the marines and ODSTs that had served in the Insurrection, survived to the point of the Human/Covenant war where they had left and were serving aboard the ships of the fleet, were miniscule. He had roughly twenty five names to go through now. He read through the first few where they only had one or two medals that were not campaign medals and then decided to narrow his search again to those with special forces training. This left five candidates.
Corporal Liam Derwent on the UNSC In-Amber-Clad,
Sgt Duncan Ramirez on the UNSC Black Prince,
Sgt Adrianna Konstantine on the UNSC Providence,
Staff Sgt Sarah Aubert on the UNSC Herodotus and
Sgt Major Avery Johnson on the UNSC Lyonesse.
Haverson was immediately drawn to Sgt Major Johnson as he was a former Orion Special Operations Commando. This meant that he had some of the best training before getting to the level of the Spartans. He still read through the other service records to ensure that he was as impartial as possible for the mission at hand. However, Johnson's record was still the best out of all of them even taking into account Operation Trebuchet and the incident at the diner on Tribute.
Haverson decided that Johnson was to lead the support fireteam on the mission. He sent out the requests for their reassignment to this new fireteam and himself for the duration of the mission. Once they were sent off to RADM Keyes, he began to create a plan for the mission. He decided that it would be best that the four of them would split up into two person teams to cover as much ground as possible in as little time. Everyone would be carrying three magazines of the stun rounds used for training purposes that were instead filled with a tranquilizer. The rest of their ammunition would be standard ammo in case they ran into trouble. For the mission he would be wearing a set of black armour (Veronica Dare's from Halo 3 ODST).
(0800 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ Location Briefing Room, UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, URNA)
Colonel Jack O'Neill had been informed by Teal'c at lunch the previous day that they might have a mission the next day. Not long after that particular conversation, a set of orders for himself and SG-1 to attend a mission briefing the next day at 0800 arrived on his new TACPAD. The memo said that the mission was an asset retrieval mission lead by ONI. When the four of them sat down together for dinner that evening. Jack remarked that Teal'c had been right that they had a mission and, if they were still unaware, they had to report to the briefing room at 0800.
As they were headed to the briefing room, they started to discuss the Office of Naval Intelligence and it's previous actions. The group arrived at the briefing room to find SgtMaj Johnson with two marines, an ODST and an Army Ranger all sat down in chairs around the furthest end of the table from Hammond's office with a man wearing a black uniform and the ONI symbol and Lieutenant bars stood up at the end of the table. Teal'c immediately made his way over to the man.
"Lieutenant Haverson, I see you are overseeing the operation today." Teal'c greeted the ONI officer.
"Lieutenant Teal'c, it's good to see you again." Haverson replied.
The rest of SG-1 looked at the two of them with hints of curiosity. Jack was the first of the remaining three to go over and greet Haverson and the rest of soldiers.
"Colonel Jack O'Neill, United St... UNSC Air Force." Jack introduced himself to the group, shaking their hands as each of them introduced themselves.
"Lieutenant Elias Haverson, Office of Naval Intelligence, Sir." Haverson responded.
"Cpl Liam Derwent, UNSC Marine Corps, Sir." The Corporal now identified as Derwent said.
"Sgt Duncan Ramirez, UNSC Army Rangers, Sir." One of the Sergeants introduced himself.
"Sgt Adrianna Konstantine, ODSTs, Sir." The other Sgt replied.
"Staff Sergeant Sarah Aubert, UNSC Marine Corps, Sir." The final person Jack didn't know answered.
"I'd hope you remembered me from Casmir. SgtMaj Avery Johnson, UNSC Marine Corps, Sir." Johnson said with his Sweet Williams cigar still in his mouth.
"Well, these are Captain Sam Carter, Also UNSC Air Force. LtJG Daniel Jackson, I assume of the UNSC Navy or Marine Corps. And LtJG Teal'c, also assumably part of the UNSC Navy or Marine Corps." Jack said pointing to each of the members of SG-1 when introducing them. Each of the members also shook hands with the other officer and the NCOs.
General Hammond walked into the room and everyone, now stood up, turned to face him and came to attention. "At ease everyone, sit down as well so you have more time to prepare your gear for the mission." Hammond said as he made his way over to the chair at the head of the table and sat down. SG-1 and the newish arrivals made their way to a chair each and sat down, except for Lieutenant Haverson.
"Yesterday I had a meeting with General Hammond and LtJG Teal'c about any technology that may aid us in our war with the Goa'uld. Teal'c informed us that there is a creature on an uninhabited planet that has the capability to disappear. Yes that does mean stealth. As such, today's mission is to capture and retrieve one of these creatures for study as to attempt to allow for our forces to be able to stealthily insert into enemy territory and also allow for the element of surprise in any offensive operations we may engage in. The co-ordinates given have led us to the planet P3X-774.
You will be carrying three magazines of training stun ammunition for capturing the creature and the rest of your ammo will be standard ammo in case we run into any Jaffa while there. The team that shall be conducting the operation will be SG-1. The rest of you will be the support team that will remain here at Stargate Command in case SG-1 need either a quick exit or assistance in the event we are engaged by Goa'uld forces that may also be seeking the technology. SG-1 leaves at 0900 hours and the support team will be at a state of constant readiness should things go South. That is everything I know the details about the creature we are attempting to capture. I leave that part of the briefing to LtJG Teal'c." Haverson informed the gathered personnel.
Teal'c having recognised that Haverson was asking him to inform them about the creature began to speak. "The creature we will be attempting to retrieve is an airborne creature with a long tail. As soon as anything threatens it it will become invisible. The creature is fairly large so the sooner we are able to find it and the closer to the Stargate it is, the easier our objective will be accomplished." Teal'c finished from his seated position.
"SG-1 you have a go, ONI Acquisition Team Alpha you may stay in one of the rooms on this level." Hammond said standing up. He then turned back to his office and began to read through reports and the such. SG-1 and the other UNSC personnel stood up as he left the room before making their way to the armoury where their armour and weapons were stored.
(0900 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ Location Gate room, UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, URNA)
SG-1 and Lieutenant Haverson assembled in the gate room. Jack carried an MA37, Sam had a DMR, Daniel was forced to carry a M7 and Teal'c still carried his staff weapon. All of them carried an M6G. Airmen manned the new AIE-486H Heavy Machine Guns either side of the Stargate's boarding ramp and around the room in defensive positions with BR55 Battle rifles and MA37 Assault rifles. There was a tense air in the room from those who had not yet been through the Stargate and SG-1 were pensive about the mission and any complications ahead.
Walter was speaking through the tannoy about the chevrons locking into place on the Stargate as General Hammond walked down the stairs into the control room. He saw the security team ready to engage any enemy forces that could attack through the Stargate and the out going team waiting for the Stargate to open the wormhole. The wormhole opened with an explosion of blue waterlike energy. This caused those in the team who hadn't experienced the Stargate opening before to take a step back in surprise.
"SG-1,. You have a go. God's speed and good luck." Hammond said to the outgoing team over the tannoy, from the control room.
"All right kids, move out." Jack ordered nonchalantly.
"Colonel, good hunting." Haverson said bidding them farewell and good luck.
Jack and Sam were the first to step through the Stargate. The F.R.E.D was the next to cross the threshold of the Stargate's wormhole and be transported to P3X-774. Teal'c and Daniel walked up the ramp at behind the F.R.E.D and were the last to leave the S.G.C. A few seconds after the last two exited the gate onto P3X-774, the Stargate disengaged the wormhole.
"Carter, you and Teal'c head up to the high ground to allow for overwatch and better use of the DMR. Also if there are other Jaffa around, it will identify them by the direction of shot. Jackson, you're with me. We will box search the area for the creature." Colonel O'Neill.
"Yes Sir." The rest of the team replied.
"Teal'c, do you have the locator beacon?" Jack asked him.
"Yes O'Neill, it is packed with the rest of our equipment onto the F.R.E.D." Teal'c answered.
"By the way sir, I notice a shimmering as we left the Stargate." Sam told him.
"Did you see which way the shimmering headed to indicate the creature went?" Jack asked.
"Same direction we're headed in now." She responded promptly.
"Well Teal'c, if these things are as big as you say, I hope we have enough tranquiliser to knock it down. There's enough here to knock out a rhino." Jack said turning to Teal'c.
"They are very large, but extremely agile in the air. They will be at their most vulnerable when they are hovering." Teal'c supplied.
"Hover, You mean like a hummingbird?" Daniel asked surprised.
"Yes Daniel Jackson, with teeth." Teal'c answered.
"Well, at the moment there is nothing here. So, lets get some more tranquiliser ammo from our gear..." Jack said turning around. "Where's the Stargate?" He then asked bewildered. The rest of the team spun round startled by his question. The team immediately ran back to the clearing where the Stargate was.
"I don't know sir!" Carter exclaimed worriedly.
When the team got to the clearing they fanned out to work out where the Stargate may have gone. The F.R.E.D with their spare ammunition and the locator beacon along with it's tracking device had also disappeared. The team then regrouped and did checks on their ammo. Sam and Jack each had three magazines of tranquiliser ammo for their rifles and the rest of the ammo was FMJ-AP ammo for their weapons. Jackson meanwhile had all of his ammo as 5 x 23mm SAP caseless ammo. They all had 5 magazines of pistol ammo.
After they had checked over their ammunition stocks as well as their food supplies, they left in their preassigned two man teams in different directions. It had been roughly half an hour of searching by Jack and Daniel before Jack noticed one of the creatures hovering roughly 30 metres from them.
"Sierra Golf Alpha to Sierra Golf Bravo. We have spotted one of the targets. Moving to incapacitate. Over." O'Neill radioed over the net.
"Copy Sierra Golf Alpha, Sierra Golf Bravo also has visual. If needed can take the shot. Over." Carter informed Jack.
"Understood Sierra Golf Bravo. Over, Out." Jack finished.
Just as jack was about to shoot at the creature, a blast of plasma from a staff weapon almost struck it causing it to disappear using it's ability to cloak. At the same time Jack and Daniel immediately hit the deck.
"Sierra Golf Bravo, did you just fire your weapon, over?" Jack asked angrily down the radio.
"Negative Sierra Golf Alpha, neither of us has fired." Carter radioed down to Jack.
"Uh Jack, you may want to see this." Daniel said worried while also pointing in the direction of the clearing below them.
"This is Sierra Golf Alpha to Sierra Golf Bravo. Regroup at at the bottom of your hill away from the path." Jack ordered before beginning to move towards the hill where Teal'c and Sam were with Daniel in hot pursuit.
20 minutes later everyone had regrouped and moved into the forest where it would be unlikely they would be found.
"Here's the situation. Apophis is here also hunting for the creature we are looking for." Jack said to the rest of the group. Immediately everyone became dour.
"Are you sure that it was Apophis?" Teal'c asked
"Yeah, I'm sure." Jack responded seriously.
"So, what are we going to do? We have to do something." Daniel asked.
"That's not the mission Daniel." Jack reminded him.
"To hell with the mission. This is our one chance to find out where Sha're and Skaara are. We have to take this chance." Daniel argued back fiercely.
"Teal'c, what sort of numbers are we looking at here?"
"He will have two, maybe the Jaffa personal guard." Teal'c answered.
"Sir are we seriously entertaining the possibility of trying to capture Apophis without any support or backup?" Carter asked trying to be the voice of reason. O'Neill nodded in reply. "Sir we are not equipped for this manner of engagement. Nearly half of our ammunition is tranquiliser ammo and Daniel is the only one who has enough ammo for any sort of prolonged engagement." She tried to reason.
"Then we use the tranquiliser ammo to knock him out and he will wake up in a cell with no guards and no Goa'uld tech. He will be forced to tell us everything about any Goa'uld tech we want to know about. He will have to tell us where Sha're is." Jackson retorted trying to sway her to his side.
"Need I remind you that we have no clue as to where the Stargate is so we can take him to a cell?" O'Neill asked him.
"He will have the Goa'uld homing device, I spoke of, on him.
"There you go, a way to capture Apophis and get home." Jackson said swaying O'Neill completely.
O'Neill then turned to Teal'c and asked. "All right, you're the one who knows what we're up against better than anyone. Can we attempt what Jackson just proposed and succeed?"
"If we have the element of surprise, with your ammunition and my Staff weapon. We will have to eliminate his guard very quickly. I believe what Daniel Jackson said is possible." Teal'c replied.
"Teal'c, this clown use to be your God. Are you really okay with this?" Jack asked concerned.
"I am Colonel O'Neill." Teal'c responded.
"Okay Carter?" Jack asked.
" Well sir, if we are to do this then we will need to plan this ambush very carefully." Carter replied.
SG-1 then moved into the forest to find the best ambush position from where they could capture Apophis. After an hour of searching through the forest they came upon a position where there were steep sloped hills on either side of the foot path before leading into a rocky valley. Teal'c went and hid behind rock on the footpath near the entrance to the rocky valley, Jack and Daniel taking up positions either side of the path behind rocks on the hills. Sam was hidden up on the rocks of the valley entrance where her DMR would be at it's most effective.
The team didn't have to wait long before Apophis and his small Jaffa guard walked down the path into the ambush zone.
Teal'c was the first to move from his cover. He fired his staff weapon at the group, however he missed the first shot and it slammed into the side of the hill. Jack and Daniel opened fore next at the Jaffa. Jack's Full-Metal-Jacket Armour-Piercing rounds punched straight through the Jaffa's armour and began to cut them down. Daniel's Semi-Armour-Piercing rounds were slamming into the Jaffa from the other side through not doing as much damage as Jack's rounds.
The Jaffa and Apophis were caught off guard by the ambush and were in disarray. Two of Apophis's three Jaffa dropped like flies from the barrage of FMJ-AP and SAP rounds. The third attempted to contend with Teal'c ahead of him and dived for cover. The two began to exchange fire while Jack and Daniel switched fire to Apophis who had just raised his personal shield.
Apophis picked up a staff weapon from one of his fallen Jaffa guards while under fire from Jack and Daniel. Their ammo had little effect against Apophis' shields.
"Sir, Apophis has just raised some sort of shield. I suggest you withdraw now. Over." Carter said through the COMM.
"Agreed. Daniel, pairs fire manoeuvre retreat. Go." Jack ordered as he began to lay down cover fire for Jackson while he retreated.
"Okay, Jack move. Over." Daniel said down the COMM as he began to fire.
However Apophis' aim didn't move from Jack's retreating figure no matter the fact that he was being shot at by both Daniel and Sam. Three blasts of plasma, one after another punched into Jack's back. The first removed the heat dispersing coating on his armour. The second melted the armour most of the way through while the final one punched clean into him and killed him outright.
"SIR!"
"JACK!"
Sam and Daniel shouted out at the same time. Daniel then stood up firing his M7 in a blind rage. Most of his rounds were slamming into the shield and slowly weakening it with help from Sam's DMR. Sam then moved to get to Jack and drag his body away.
Apophis had switched fire to the stationary Jackson. Less than a minute after the third plasma blast had nailed O'Neill in the back, three more were headed for Daniel. They all slammed into Daniel's breastplate before he had a chance to move out of the way of the blasts. Daniel was dead before his head had even hit the ground.
Apophis then switched fire to the exposed and slow moving Sam. By now she was slowly pulling the limp body of Jack O'Neill behind a rock before she was going to pick up his MA37 and fire back at Apophis. Before she had managed to move into cover, she was hit by another three blasts from the Staff weapon Apophis carried.
Teal'c had managed to kill the final Jaffa guard by now and stood up out of cover to face Apophis.
"Teal'c, Jaffa shol'va!" Apophis shouted at Teal'c.
Teal'c then looked at the fallen bodies of his friends who's bodies were still smoking from where their armour had been penetrated.
"Tal shakka mel. I die free." Teal'c responded standing defiantly against Apophis.
Apophis then smirked with glee. He looked over to the bodies of Teal'c's fallen friends and then over to where his guards had fallen as well as where Teal'c stood. As he looked towards Teal'c, Apophis aimed the Staff weapon at him. However the was a strange whoosh like sound. Teal'c had disappeared. Apophis then looked to the bodies of the rest of SG-1. They too had disappeared as well as the bodies of his dead guards.
(1230 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ General Hammond's Office, UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, URNA)
General Hammond was sat in his office reading a report from a team that had just returned from an off-world mission to PZ9-891 when Water knocked on the office door.
"Come in Walter." Hammond said.
Sgt Harriman entered the room and said. "Sir, SG-1 has failed to check in from their mission. They are half an hour overdue."
"Get Lieutenant Haverson up hear immediately." Hammond said standing up. Walter then briskly walked out the door and headed for the room that Haverson was in.
3 minutes after Walter left, Haverson knocked on the door.
"Come in Lieutenant. We have a situation." Hammond informed Haverson as he walked through the door.
"By what you've just said, I assume SG-1 hasn't checked in?" Haverson asked.
"No they haven't, they're half an hour over due." Hammond responded and then continued. "You're support team will be deployed if they haven't reported in by 1300 hours. Inform you're team of this. Dismissed." Hammond ordered. Haverson saluted crisply and left the room to inform the team.
Haverson walked to the room that the group of marines, ODST and army ranger were in. As he entered the room, the team stood up and saluted him.
"Alright ladies and gents, SG-1 hasn't reported in yet. we wait 30 minutes before we head to P3X-774 to find out where they are and why they haven't checked in. Check your weapons and be ready to move." Haverson said before leaving.
"You heard the officer, be ready to go in 30 minutes and make sure we have the necessary firepower. It seems we have to rescue some explorers." Johnson said and the soldiers scrambled to check their weapons and ammo for action.
Derwent picked up his BR55 battle rifle and began to clean the weapon and make sure it was ready for their involvement in the mission. Ramirez picked up his MA37 ICWS and checked the rifle over before moving onto his gear. Konstantine retrieved her M7 and went to the armoury for more ammo for it. Aubert collected her SRS99-S5 sniper rifle and also checked it over. Johnson found his MA5C and began to test the working parts to see if any of them would malfunction.
Cpl Derwent was designated to carry the team's SPNKr with Sgt Konstantine carrying an M90 shotgun along with her M1 combat knife while the rest of the team had M6G and M6G2 pistols as their secondary armament.
At 1300 hours the group was formed up and ready to leave as the circle housing the star symbols spun and stopped locking in the chevrons on the Stargate. Hammond made his way down the stairs from the briefing room into the control room as the fourth chevron locked.
"Chevron four encoded." Walter said over the tannoy less than a second later.
The plate kept spinning and a minute later chevrons five and six were glowing red as the plate came to a stop as the seventh chevron began to lock.
"Chevron Seven is locked." Walter said as the Stargate activated with it's signature burst of a water like plume.
"ONI Acquisition team Alpha, your mission is a go. Find SG-1 and bring them home safely. Good luck." Hammond told the team over the tannoy.
"Thank you sir. Move out secure the gate and prepare to move forward from there." Haverson ordered. The team lead by Johnson then rushed though the Stargate and onto P3X-774.
(1230 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ Unknown/ P3X-774)
Daniel is lying on a flat surface. Daniel's eyes open slowly, he looks around the hut before he sits up with a gasp. Daniel's hands moved to the hole in his armour and uniform in the middle of his chest, right where he was shot. everything around the hole was charred and bloody, his hands going to the wound that no longer existed.
Daniel rose, moving around the hut and discovered Carter. Daniel placed a hand over her face to see if she is breathing. Content that she was alive he placed his hand in the hole where she was shot, and feels around for the wound. Carter woke up with his hand on her chest.
"Hey! What are you looking at?" Carter asked as she began to get up.
"I felt that blast kill me. I mean…I thought I…I thought we were dead. Weren't we dead?" Daniel inquired still knelling down next to the 'bed' she was on.
"Yeah." Carter answered pushing herself up
"Okay. Well I thought heaven would be a little more upscale." Daniel said pointing out their surroundings.
"Oh, well maybe things in heaven are more simple than you expected." She remarked humorously "Anyway, I don't think this is heaven." Carter then stated in a more serious tone.
Carter got up and they both moved across the hut to where Colonel O'Neill was, lying on his stomach. There was a hole in the back of his armour and uniform, but the skin underneath was unmarked just like themselves. Carter felt his skin where the wound would have been while Daniel pats his hair.
"Colonel?" Sam spoke softly to him.
Captain Carter then moved herself round to near his head and touched it. Jack jerked up regaining consciousness.
"What the?" Jack gasped as he regained consciousness.
"It's alright Jack. It's Sam and Daniel." Jackson told O'Neill reassuringly.
"What the hell happened?" Jack asked as he reached for his back to find the hole in his armour and uniform but no injury.
"Didn't Apophis...?" Jack began to ask before being interrupted by Daniel.
"Kill you? Yes he did. Same with Sam and I." Daniel said.
"Kill me as in, ya know?" began again before this time being interrupted by Sam
"Die, yes you're correct." Sam responded.
"Die, yeah. So you too huh?" O'Neill responded.
"Yeah, we don't know what happened to Teal'c though. Or where we are and how we aren't dead." Sam informed Jack succinctly.
Carter then moved her hand to draw her pistol. "Sir, my sidearm is missing." Carter informed them slightly distressed.
"Mine to Jack." Daniel said after quickly moving his hand over to his pistol holster.
"Alright, we find our weapons and equipment, then Teal'c, then we contact the SGC for reinforcements. Then we move to capture Apophis." Jack said laying out the priorities in which they would deal with them.
Just then a small man entered the hut. This man had greenish hair with what appeared to be moss and small foliage in it. He wore a faded purple shirt and trousers that looked as if they had seen better days.
"Ah…hello." Daniel stammered out surprised.
A woman, Lya, joined the man. She was slightly taller than Opher, but was wearing a dress made of the same type of material. Her hair was slightly lighter, more red than green, but just a bushy. Both regarded O'Neill, Carter and Daniel silently.
"Hi. I'm Daniel…uh, Jackson. This is Captain Carter and this is…uh…" Daniel started before being interrupted.
"Colonel Jack O'Neill, SG-1. Um…Sorry to drop in on you like this but we were…dead." Jack finished.
"Do you know where our friend is? Another like us." Sam asked gesturing to her armour and BDU while talking.
Lya motioned for them to follow her, then walked out of the hut. Opher smiled and followed. O'Neill, Daniel and Carter looked at each other then followed. The hut they exited was small and round, set in a clearing in the middle of the forest. There were two smaller huts behind it. They all seem to be constructed of sticks and grass.
"Is this your village? Aresh? Tao Aki? We need to find our friend Teal'c."
Opher and Lya walked to two others of their family, another man, Anteaus, and a young boy sitting on a tree trunk bench, surrounded by colourful flowers and green shrubbery. There are several baskets full of bright fruit.
"Ah…fruit. Nothing like coming back from the dead to build up an appetite." Jack said with a hint of sarcasm.
O'Neill, Daniel and Carter sat on the bench across from the small family. Anteaus threw Jack a small red fruit.
Ah…Oh, thank you…Thank you very much.
Anteaus threw one to Daniel then Carter.
"Did you do this?" Daniel asked pointing to where the staff wound was in his stomach. No of them answered.
"Did you heal us?" Daniel asked again to yet again no response.
Across from them, the small group traded seemingly confused glances, then motioned to their food, indicating that SG-1 is welcome to have more fruit.
"I think they're a family." Daniel softly said to Jack
"Of what?" Jack asked in response.
"I have no idea." Jackson replied.
"Excuse me, we would like our weapons and equipment back. We will need to defend ourselves should the bad guy find us while we are looking for our friend. The big things, they are very dangerous an honestly we only just got them." O'Neill told the small family who looked at him curiously.
The young boy suddenly got up and ran past the trio.
"Hey..." Jack shout before spotting Teal'c. "Teal'c, thank God. Please tell me you have some idea about what is happening around here." Jack said hoping for a positive response.
"Unfortunately, I do not O'Neill." Teal'c responded courteously.
"How about Apophis, have you got a visual on where he is?" Jack asked still holding out an ever shrinking glimmer of hope.
"I do not. I apologise." Teal'c said regretfully.
"Ah, it's not your fault." Jack responded. "Do you have an idea on how far we are from the Stargate?" Jack asked now expecting a negative asnwer.
"I do not Colonel." Teal'c informed jack yet again.
Suddenly something behind Jack caught his attention. Jack spun around to find the young boy had walked up to Captain Carter.
"Nafrayu." The boy said while pressing his hand to his chest.
Carter smiled at the gesture and then placed her hand on his chest "Nafrayu." She asked in confirmation. Sam received a nod from the boy. She then pointed to herself and said. "Carter."
Nafrayu then placed his hand on her shoulder and repeated. "Carter." Nafrayu gazed at Sam in adoration. Sam smiled back at the young boy.
"No Captain, we can't keep him." Jack said. To this Sam just smiled even more.
(1255 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ Lake Wood Shipyards/ Location between Elliott and Pamayu, Australian Outback, Northern Territory, former Australia)
Rear Admiral Keyes had boarded a pelican with his aid and an ODST escort visit to the new shipyards to watch as the UNSC Red Wall began to land in one of the Class-L flash docks that had been constructed for the fleet to be able to land for necessary repairs. The Titanium A battle plate that was meant for the new Phoenix class colony ship was being requisitioned for the necessary repairs. The electrical components were taken from the new mariner class ship. Because of the Red Wall's classification as a cruiser and the severity of the damage, she was the first of the cruisers slated for repairs. The ship would occupy dock the largest of the docks. This was the one that was originally to house the Phoenix colony ship. The birth built that was to begin building the mariner class transport ship, was to house the destroyer UNSC Iroquois to affect repairs to the breached sections and swap out the mangled armour. The final unoccupied birth was to repair the UNSC Tannenberg also needing to replace scorched or melted armour and fix vented sections.
The Red Wall had to have the two working reactors working to the point that they would be nearing the point where the reactor would go critical just to keep the cruiser in orbit. This was on top of landing in a dock that wasn't typically suited for cruisers of any type let alone old cumbersome cruisers that the Halcyon class was. The Iroquois and Tannenberg would be much better suited to this type of landing. Reusable R7 thrust couplings were manufactured so that they could help the Red Wall, Autumn and Lyonesse stay afloat till their main fusion engines could accelerate them into orbit again.
Red Wall came into view as she began to fly towards the dockyard. At 10km from the dockyard, her front facing auxiliary fusion rocket fired to begin to slow her down. All 9,238,500 million metric tons of cruiser began to slow rapidly and by the half a kilometre mark she was almost stationary. The ship began a slow, steady and controlled descent into Drydock 10. When the ship was in place the clamps moved into place to hold the ship up. Slowly the power was shut off and the engines shut down putting all the weight of the cruiser on the docking clamps. As this happened, there was groaning from the base of the clamps signalling the strain of 9,238,500 million metric tons. But in the end the clams held. There was a cheer from the shipyard's construction crew for the hard work they put in working well.
The door to the hangers opened and there was a flurry of activity as 16 pelicans all carrying vehicles and soldiers flew out as well as one Shortsword Bomber. The 3rd Reconnaissance Regiment began to disembark and be housed in a temporary base until a more permanent base could be found for them. They were offloaded from the Red Wall alongside their Warthog LRVs, Troop hogs and M274R ULATVs (Mongooses). The remaining 600 men of a regiment of 2000 were to be taken to Camp Forsyth on Forsyth Island in the Wellesley Island group ,12.58km off of the Australian mainland, with their vehicles. The journey would take about 2 hours by Pelican so more dropships were being sent over by the frigates and cruisers to swiftly move the Army, Marines and ODSTs from the ship to begin the repairs.
The Bomber would be based at Mornington Island Airport before flying round to UNSC flight school Cranwell with stops at UNSC Air Base Ratmalana (Sri Lanka), UNSC Prince Sultan Air base (Saudi Arabia) and Mario De Bernardi Military Airport (Italy).
The 2 companies of the 38th Engineer Battalion had been deployed to support and oversee the construction of a rudimentary base by the the 17th and 21st construction squadrons from 6th Engineer support regiment formerly of the Royal Australian Engineers. Now the the 1st and 2nd companies of the 38th was at the drydock to first fix the reactor as that was the major issue. However, due to the dockyard crews not having the experience dealing with the reactors inside the ship, the 38th would begin by pouring all it's efforts with that of the ship's damage control teams into fixing the malfunction in one of the ship's secondary fusion reactors. Then the Dockyard workers, 38th and ship's damage control teams would repair the armour. The work would take approximately two months, maybe less if there was serious overtime for the repair crews.
It wouldn't be till the 17th October that the Tannenberg and Iroquois would come in for their repairs. This was to allow for more work to be done to get the cruiser closer to completion before attempting to fix any more ships. The flight of four longswords were circling as they had flown down with the cruiser to intercept any aircraft that was flying towards the cruiser on it's approach. There was a flight of 6 sabres that exited with the Pelicans and was on escort duty for them, even though they were on Earth. The 3 Nandaos remained in the hanger.
Keyes then boarded the Pelican he used to arrive at the dockyard along with his aid and ODST squad escort. "Pilot, I need to speak to Captain Harman aboard the Red Wall. Het us up there." Keyes ordered as he sat down in the troop bay of the Pelican.
"Copy that Admiral. Prep for take off." Lieutenant Rick Hale called out from the cockpit before switching to the radio. "This is Charlie 2-1-7 to Red Wall ATC. request permission to land with RADM Keyes, his aid and escort to speak to the Captain. Over." He said over the radio. The Pelican then lifted off as the boarding ramp closed.
"Red Wall ATC to Charlie 2-1-7. Permission granted, follow flight plan being sent and land in Hanger 3. An escort will be waiting to escort the Admiral and aid to the Captain. Over."
"Copy Red Wall ATC, receiving flight plan and will make for Hanger 3. Over, out." Hale confirmed before beginning to fly towards the cruiser. As the dropship entered Hanger 7 it landed on the launch pad for the Longsword that would normally occupy the hanger. Once landed the ramp opened and Keyes was greeted by a squad of ODSTs.
"Gunnery Sergeant, lets head up. I need to speak to Captain Harman." Keyes said addressing the squad leader.
"Yes Sir. This way Sirs." The Gunny said before leading Keyes towards the bridge. Upon arrival, Keyes noted the only crew on the bridge seemed to be the Captain, Madeline Harman, the Executive officer Commander Rajeev Sunwar, the ATC officer, weapons officer, engineering officer and the CO of the ODST contingent. "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen." Keyes said addressing the bridge.
"Admiral on deck!" Captain Harman shouted. the room came to attention facing him and saluted as did Lieutenant Lance.
Keyes returned the salute. "At ease." Keyes ordered as the room dropped their salutes. "What is the status of the ship Captain?" Keyes then asked.
"Secondary Reactor 2 is still offline needing maintenance, Secondary Reactor 1 was close to critical and will need maintenance as well because of the landing and the armour in that area needs replacing." The chief engineer reported.
"By the looks of things the Spitfires and Sentries will need maintenance. The barrels may have been warn out by all the fighting. Also we need replenishment of ammunition for the MAC, Spitfires, Sentries, Ramparts and Archers. Our Nuclear stock is almost out as well" The Weapons Officer reported afterwards.
"We also need replacements for our fighters we have lost 2 sabres, 2 Longswords and 5 Nandaos were lost in either the battle with the Covenant on Reach or Goa'uld. In terms of pilots, the Sabre pilots were picked up and after a brief stint in the med bay are ready to fly again. 3 of the Nandao pilots and the pilot and systems operator were also recovered. We need, 2 Nandao pilots, 1 pilot, 2 co-pilots, 2 navigators and 1 systems operator for the two longswords that need replacing. Though we picked up a Shortsword to fill the space the Longsword we lost on Reach had." The ATC officer informed him.
" In terms of the crew, we lost 100 of the crew we originally had as well as 20 survivors from the UNSC Valiant we recovered by dropship after exiting Reach's orbit. We now have a crew of roughly 1080. The crew's moral has risen steadily since we arrived and the news broke, So we shouldn't new Onyx team to be around much longer." Commander Sunwar told Keyes.
"For the Leathernecks and Helljumpers, we now have 1100 Marines and 700 ODSTs with Spartan Onyx Team as well. We lost 20 Marines and 5 ODSTs during the fight wit those snakeheads." The major told Keyes.
"All in all we are in bad shape and a bit over crowded. Luckily, with the Marines, ODSTs and crew we picked up, they can be sent to operate aboard the new ships that seem to be being built nearby." She said as a summary to Keyes. "Some of the crewmen we picked up from Valiant was actually one of the navigation officers and some of the engineers so they can be sent to what appears to be one of the new Stalwarts. The Nav officer could even be her Captain as he has experience with operating aboard a UNSC warship." Harman suggested.
"That's not a bad idea. Get a list of all of the Valiant's crew you picked up and I will assign them to one of the Stalwarts as well as some of the Marines and ODSTs. The 100 crew that were originally lost will be replaced by crew from one of the decommissioning aircraft carriers or submarines. For Ammo, That could take a while so have the Albatross ready to collect some of the ammo directly from the factories. The only thig that at the moment can not be replaced is the Nuclear weapons as we need to have specialists build the Shivas without blowing up part of what was Russia." Keyes said. All the time Lance was typing on his TACPAD the responses of the officers and the suggestions.
"Other than that, the repairs should take roughly two months to complete. Less if there is serious overtime spent fixing the ship. Your Crew will have a month on leave but must stay local due to the possibility of the ship being recalled to action at a moment's notice. They will rotate half on leave, half on duty to be ready to go. Offload the Valiant's crew and the marines and ODSTs you picked up. Was there anything else." Keyes ordered.
"We will work as fast as we can to fix our ship and be under way ASAP Sir." The Chief Engineer told Keyes with determination.
"I trust you will Lieutenant Commander. Thank you for your time and have a good rest while the ship is being fixed." Keyes said before saluting, being saluted and then heading back to the Pelican with Neville.
Once there Keyes boarded yet again with Lance and his ODST escort. "Pilot, head to NAVCOM. I need to speak to Admiral Johnson and Admiral Denning about the progress of the repairs." Keyes informed Hale.
"Understood Admiral. Buckle up and be ready for lift off, this will be a long flight." Hale responded. "Charlie 2-1-7 to Red Wall ATC request permission to depart, information Alpha. Destination NAVCOM. Over." Rick said down the radio.
"Charlie 2-1-7, this is Red Wall ATC. Clear for departure watch for traffic to Port and Starboard follow flight path sent. Have a nice day. Over, out." Came the reply from Red Wall's ATC. The Pelican lifted off and left the hanger on the laid out flight path to begin it's journey towards NAVCOM.
(1255 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ Unknown/ P3X-774)
SG1 had been sat with the people who saved them for a good fifteen minutes. In that time they had discussed what to do. They had eaten quite a bit of fruit. The man, Anteaus was cooking a porridge like food. He then used a spoon to take some of the porridge and put it into a cup made from a leaf. He then held the food out to the Jackson who had been watching him. Daniel then accepted the offered food.
"How about asking them about the Stargate huh Daniel?" Jack asked with some sarcasm.
"Already tried that. They didn't seem to understand me. At the moment, I am trying to figure out if they are human." Daniel then informed jack before eating some of the porridge.
"They look pretty human to me." Sam said while looking at Nafrayu who was sat next to her.
Anteaus then turned to them and said. "I will take you to your doorway." At this Jackson chocked on the porridge he was eating while leaving O'Neill, Carter and Teal'c shocked. Jack quickly recovered to help Daniel not chock on the porridge.
"You can understand what we have been saying?" Jackson asked once he had recovered.
"It took some time to learn your speech." Anteaus said, nodded slowly in reply.
"Not that much time." Carter replied still a little stunned.
"Your weapons are gone now." Anteaus said mystically.
"Gone where? We kind of need to know as we only just got these. Also the ammo, if you handle the weapon wrong you could kill someone." Jack said warningly.
To this Anteaus ate his food looking evasive.
"You know about our enemies?" Carter asked getting no response.
"They'll be following us. You know that, right?" Jack asked trying to convey the warning across.
"You attacked them." Lya said surprising the team by her entry into the conversation.
"You saw that?" Daniel asked getting no response from the Nox.
"We only meant to capture him, that is why Colonel O'Neill's rifle had stun rounds loaded. We take out the guards, Jack captures Apophis." Sam said laying out the plan.
"Look were soldiers, not assassins. Assassinating people isn't in our job description." Jack said trying to reassure the small family. "He's just...bad. Very very..."
"SG1 this is Lieutenant Haverson and ONI Acquisition Squad Alpha. Do you Copy? Over." Haverson's voice crackled down the radio as it came to life. The team blanched and looked at their watches. It was 1301 Hours. They were an hour overdue for check in.
"Lieutenant, this is Colonel O'Neill. We read you loud and clear. Triangulate our signal and head our way. We have a long story to tell. Watch out for hostiles. Over." Jack responded.
"Copy Colonel, we are on our way we have your signal. Transmit for five seconds every 5 minute and we should be with you soon. Over, out." Haverson replied and then cut the transmission.
An hour and a half later the six person squad came trudging up the path. As they sighted the camp, they ran in to greet SG1 in a safe harbour.
"Colonel, it's good to see you alive and well. What happened to the armour?" Haverson asked dismayed at the state of the armour.
"Lets sit down and talk as we have a lot to say." Jack said motioning the team to sit down on the log benches around the fire.
SG1 spent a good half an hour explaining what had happened since their arrival onto P3X - 774. When they finished, the Marines and Ranger felt a little exposed in their armour while the ODST and Haverson felt a little more safe in their slightly better armour. Beside that all but Haverson were shocked at what had happened while he was thoughtful and contemplating their current situation.
"Well, once we exited the Stargate, I did a quick visual scan of the Stargate and found no location beacons on it. So, it's quite possible that Apophis having seen your team wipe out his guard has either left to return when you have likely left or to gather reinforcements to come and crush us. It's more likely to be the former in my opinion as they have an way about themselves that is more than a little driven by their survival at the cost of others. Teal'c, what do you think?" Haverson asked after making his conclusions from the observations he had made on arrival and having read the SGC reports about the Goa'uld.
"I believe you are correct Lieutenant Haverson. Apophis has most likely retreated but will send a force of Jaffa to hunt us down." Teal'c said.
"Your brother won't revive until later." Lya said after handing O'Neill a bowl of the porridge.
"Excuse me? What do you mean brother? Who's Brother?"
Lya beckoned for them to follow her into one of the huts. Rising to their feet, they begin to follow her.
"Staff Sgt Aubert, you, Sgt Ramirez and Cpl Derwent stay here and watch for the enemy. SgtMaj Johnson, you and Sgt Konstantine hand your rifles over and follow me." Haverson ordered. His team swiftly moved as ordered with Derwent moving to the entrance to the camp, Ramirez moving behind the huts into the forest while Aubert moved up into the trees for the best use of her sniper rifle. "Colonel, do you mind if Johnson and Konstantine hand their primary weapons over to whoever your leaving out here to watch our backs?" Haverson asked Jack.
"No problem Lieutenant. Carter get one, Stay with the kid. Jackson the other, stay around. Speak to these guys if you want." Jack ordered. Sam grabbed Johnson's MA5C and laid it across her lap with one hand on it ready to grab in an emergency. Jackson did the same with Konstantine's M7 and sat by Opher to have a conversation.
Jack, Haverson, Teal'c, Johnson and Konstantine then followed Lya into the hut. Lya moved to a corner and pulled aside a curtain. On the bed was Shak'l, one of Apophis' Jaffa. He was still asleep presumably due to healing from being shot. Haverson's, Johnson's and Konstantine's hands immediately flew to their pistols. Once noticing that the Jaffa hadn't woken up they became more relaxed but with their hands still on their pistols.
"Shak'l." Teal'c whispered to himself.
"You know him Lieutenant?" Haverson asked.
"I do. He is Shak'l, he served under me while I was first prime to Apophis." Teal'c said flinching slightly at his past.
"It's alright Teal'c. Your with us now, fighting the slimy style monger." Jack said calming Teal'c down while lightening the mood.
Lya curtain and left the hut.
"Konstantine, stay here. Watch over him." Haverson said before making to follow Lya out of the hut with Johnson in tow.
"Teal'c we need some info, then I want you to come back and help guard him." Jack said before following the two of them left the hut.
"He resisted our attempts to help him heal." Lya informed them dismayed.
"He may yet survive. The Goa'uld he carries is healing him even now." Teal'c informed her. This made her smile.
"That is good." Anteaus said relieved.
"How is that good? I mean, he's in the service of the Goa'uld, one who would happily wipe you out." Colonel O'Neill asked them sceptically.
"He is like him." Anteaus said while nodding toward Teal'c.
"He's with us." Jack told him.
"Perhaps you can convince the injured one to join you as well?" Lya suggested.
"And if we weren't able to convince him here with our words. would we be allowed to take him with us to show him life where we are from?" Haverson asked. "We have questions that we need to ask him anyway. However, his choice whether to join us will affect how and where the questions are asked as well as where he would stay afterwards." Haverson told the Nox. This intrigued them as they hadn't met someone who thought like this before.
"Also, if he wished we could return him here so he can go home from here without knowing anything that would compromise us." Haverson said to gain the support of the rest of the team. "However, we would have to leave now to get him there. We have some advanced medicines that can help as well." This fully swayed the Nox.
"That is acceptable. We will lead you to your doorway." Anteaus said before getting up.
"Teal'c get the Jaffa with Johnson and carry him to the Stargate. Make sure his hands are tied behind his back and has a gag should he wake up while we are en route to the Stargate. Sam, you and Daniel be behind Teal'c and Johnson. Sam have his rifle and Daniel his pistol. Haverson and I will be in front of Teal'c and Johnson. Haverson, have Derwent and Ramirez at the front of us. Konstantine and Aubert will be at the back. Lets go people. We need to go quickly." Jack rapid gave orders. Their was a mad scramble to collect their gear and get into the formation that had been ordered for their march to the Stargate.
Ten minutes later the two teams had left the Nox settlement and were on their way to the Stargate. They were following Anteaus and Lya while Opher and Nafrayu stayed at their home. After travelling for another half an hour, they almost ran into a patrol of Jaffa.
"The two teams had immediately hidden in the bushes surrounding the path ready in case they needed to defend themselves. However, Anteaus had teleported the Jaffa onto another path far away so there wouldn't be a fight. The two teams then got out of the bushes and kept moving. Not long after Shak'l woke up. He managed to pretend to still sleep till Lya came over.
"Must he be bound so tightly and wear that in his mouth?" She asked them.
"If he didn't he would kill us when he wakes up or get us killed by shouting for the other snake incubators. No offence big man." Johnson reply to Lya and apologising to Teal'c. He had a perplexed face at the description Johnson had used for the Jaffa.
"He deceives you. He has awoken already yet pretends to still sleep." She told them before returning to the front of the column.
At this Johnson and Teal'c threw Shak'l to the floor. "Alright tin head, the games up get up and walk the rest of the way." Johnson ordered the now seething Shak'l who lay on the floor. Once he was up they pushed him forward to catch up with Jack and Haverson. Johnson retrieved his rifle from Carter who got a pistol from Konstantine.
Ramirez ran over to Teal'c and handed him a pistol before returning to the front of the column.
After 2 hours of walking they had made it to the Stargate. As they arrived, they found a squad of Jaffa 12 guarding the gate.
"Look, I know you don't want us to kill. However would you let us injure or stun them so we can get past and through the gate." Jack asked Anteaus.
"You may stun them, not kill them or injure them." Anteaus told them strictly.
"Well, to do that the four of us are going to need the weapons we came with." Jack told him.
"Very well." Anteaus replied.
"Hand the pistols back. ONI Squad, stay here while we knock them out so we can get past. Guard him." Jack ordered while pointing to Shak'l. Sam, Daniel and Teal'c hand back the pistols just before all of their weapons and ammo returned to them. They quickly loaded the training stun rounds before splitting into their two teams.
"Daniel your with me. We're rushing up to the DHD so you can begin the dialling process as soon as we are cleared. Sam, Teal'c you two lay down cover fire till we are there and then move forward to another point of cover so we can knock them out as fast as possible. Move." Jack ordered before watching Teal'c and Sam set up so that he and Daniel could rush the Jaffa. Sam gave a thumbs up to Jack for him to go.
"Lets go Daniel." He said before charging towards the Jaffa firing his MA37 with Daniel right behind him firing his M7. They managed to knock out 5 of the Jaffa as they charged while Sam had knocked out another 4 suppressing them. Teal'c had managed to shoot around them to cause confusion during their assault. The 5 remaining Jaffa were quickly knocked out by Jack and Daniel while Sam and Teal'c ran forwards.
"Daniel Dial the gate quick. We're about to have a hoard of Jaffa on us. Lieutenant, move up with the prisoner." Jack ordered quickly. ONI Squad Alpha ran forward pushing Shak'l as they ran When they got there the 5th Chevron had just locked.
"Hurry up Daniel, we don't have all day." Jack said with more than a hint of sarcasm.
"Chevron Seven now locking Colonel." Daniel said.
The wormhole opened explosively as second later. As the wormhole stabilised Daniel sent through their Iris Deactivation Code. They waited for a few seconds before Daniel moved through the portal. Shak'l was next with Konstantine and Teal'c following to stop him from escaping. Just after Teal'c went through, a hale of Plasma blasts came hurtling towards the team as the Jaffa came running towards them. Ramirez and Aubert grabbed one of the knocked out Jaffa and dragged him through the gate as another prisoner.
"Derwent, Johnson we cover the gate for Sam and Haverson to bag another prisoner before we bug out." Jack ordered. The three of them began to fire indiscriminately towards the mass of Jaffa charging them. Sam and Haverson had just managed to start through the gate as Haverson was hit in the shoulder and back by two blasts while Derwent was hit in the left leg twice, each shoulder once and the chest twice as well.
"Man down. Get him out." Jack ordered as he and Johnson moved to drag Derwent through the gate.
Once everyone was fully through, the Iris closed quickly and the gate disengaged.
"Get this man up to the Infirmary Now." Jack yelled out as he and Johnson dragged Derwent down the boarding ramp. A medical team rushed in and place Derwent on a stretcher.
"Colonel, are you alright?" Hammond asked as he walked up to the newly returned teams.
"Most of us are Sir. Cpl Derwent took about five staff blasts across his body and is enroute to the Infirmary. Lieutenant Haverson should also be enroute there after being hit twice. We also have three new prisoners Sir. Not the original objective but that will be stated in my report and at the debriefing." Jack reported quickly.
"Very well debrief at 1900 hours. Dismissed." Hammond said before heading back to the control room.
(1930 Hours/ 12th September 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ Location Briefing Room, UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, URNA)
SG1, ONI Acquisition team Alpha and General Hammond were sat around the large table in the briefing room. Hammond had just finished listening to the reports from the mission to P3X-774.
"So, in summary, we have three Jaffa prisoners and are aware of how these creatures on P3X-774 cloak. However, they don't do it. It's this other race of people who are highly pacifist." Hammond asked.
"That's about right Sir, yes." Jack said.
"Well as this is no longer a secret operation we will have to hand the prisoners into ONI custody for interrogation and questioning. This is before they decide whether to join us or be sent back where they will likely be killed by Apophis for failure." Hammond said. "Lieutenant Haverson, the prisoners are to be transferred to your custody when you have an escort. You can take them to the nearby air base where they can be transferred to where you want them. Good job everyone. Dismissed." Hammond said before standing and walking back to his office.
The soldiers who made up ONI Acquisition Squad Alpha were sent back to the ships they had come from while SG1 went up to their mess hall for dinner. Life was as ordinary as it could be for the soldiers of the UNSC and specifically the SGC.
(1200 hours/ 13th September 1997/ Base command centre/ Location under construction UNSC base, Nevada, URNA)
Major Artur Ishchuk, 2nd in command of the 38th Engineer Battalion had been given the 5th and 6th Companies to begin the construction of a new base in Nevada. They had used the Firebase idea to begin with. They had built a Headquarters building along with a medical centre behind it which currently had 4 Barracks blocks attached to it. They also had the Garage built to house all of their vehicles. The hard part was the construction of the Headquarters building due to the specialisation in what was needed there. Two gaping holes had to be left to lower two pieces of as of yet unspecified equipment down into the depths of the base. They had also quickly set up Scythe and Lance turrets to defend the base from any attack.
"Major, there is a transmission for you. It's from Colonel Davidson." The company comms officer informed him.
"Send it to the Office." He ordered. He was currently using what would become the Base CO's office because at the moment he was the base CO. "Colonel, what can I do for you." He aske once her was sat down at the desk.
"Well Major, how is construction going?" Davidson asked.
"We have nearly completed the HQ bar the two holes for the equipment I still don't know about. We also have the Garage, the medical centre, 4 Barracks blocks and a rudimentary Storage area built Sir. We are working on the Reactor, supply pads and Vehicle repair bays at the moment."
Keep up the good work Major. 1st and 2nd Companies are over in Australia beginning work on the cruiser Red Wall while 3rd and 4th Companies are in Russia and Detroit building factories. The base will need to be operational in just over a month. Make sure that base is ready. Good Luck. Colonel Davidson out." He said before cutting the Transmission.
According to the projected plan, everything but the Onager MACs would by fully operational by then. Luckily that meant that he and his two companies would then likely have a week of leave before being shipped over to Australia to help repair the damaged warships. Then he remembered that himself and 6th company would be taking the mine clearance vehicles down to the Falkland islands for two weeks to make sure that any mines left over from the semi-recent conflict were found and disposed of appropriately. This would be a long few months for himself and the 38th Engineers.
(1500 hours/ 13th September 1997/ NAVCOM meeting room/ Location NAVCOM wing, former NATO Headquarters, Belgium, European Union)
Keyes was sat in the hall with Admiral Jay Johnson of UNSC Fleet Command Space and Admiral Karen Denning of UNSC Naval Logistics Operations Command. He was there to tell them about the repair efforts.
"Well Admirals, we now have one cruiser, UNSC Red Wall, docked and under repair. The Frigate UNSC Tannenberg and Destroyer UNSC Iroquois will be joining it on the 17th October. Hopefully, and with lots of overtime, They can get the reactor fixed to a degree that the all the damage control teams and men of the 1st and 2nd companies of the 38th can be more spread out to help replace damaged armour panels and repair sections that were damaged or vented. The cruiser's repairs will take around 2 months. Every other ship should take less time due to not having the a reactor problem." Keyes said briefing the Admirals.
"That is good. After the Red Wall, Herodotus and Tannenberg, which ships will be sent down for their repairs?" Admiral Johnson asked.
"The Pillar of Autumn with the Herodotus and In Amber Clad will be the next three. Then the Lyonesse, Commonwealth and Black Prince. The final group will be the three Charons, Forward unto Dawn, Providence and Chioglossa." Keyes told him.
"What are the requirements for the repairs and maintenance?" Admiral Denning asked.
"The primary focus for the fleet will be the ammunition for the MACs, Spitfires, Sentries, M910 Ramparts, M58 Archer Missiles, M340A4 Streak Missiles, M4093 Hyperion Nuclear Missiles, M2950 Harpoon Nuclear Missiles, M2475 Shiva Nuclear Missiles, 120mm rounds, 110mm Autocannon rounds, 70mm chain-gun rounds, 30mm Autocannon rounds, M3250 Medusa Missiles and ASGM-10 Missiles. There will also be need for Titanium A armour of varying thickness. The Red Wall also requires 2 FSS-1000 Sabre Class fighters, 2 C709 GA-TL1 Longsword Interceptor Bombers and 5 F29 Nandao Strike Fighter/Interceptors. The Lyonesse also lost 2 of it's FSS-1000 Sabre Class fighters as well as, 1 C709 GA-TL1 Longsword Interceptor Bombers and 3 F29 Nandao Strike Fighter/Interceptors. As for the rest of the fleet, I will send that information as it comes Admiral." Keyes told her.
"That is a long shopping list RADM Keyes, but manageable. The smaller ships and MAC rounds will take time to build and the Nuclear weapons may have to be substituted for other, less powerful weapons. However the Armour and rest of the ordinance will be easy enough." She replied.
"Personally, I would prioritise the armour plating as that is one of the reasons the ships are docking. Also the ammunition can be lifted to the ships by the 19 Albatross and 415 Pelicans that the fleet carries." Keyes suggested.
"Good point, I will Prioritise the armour. Of the list of weapons, what do you need the most?" Admiral Denning asked Keyes.
"Due to the complexity and size of the MAC ordinance, I would prioritise the Archer Missiles as well as the Spitfire, Sentry and Rampart ammunition. These are the other weapons that are most likely to be used by the fleet. For the fighters though, I would suggest the M3250 Medusa and ASGM-10 Missiles and the 110mm and 30mm Autocannon rounds." Keyes informed her.
"Good, That reduces the shopping list drastically. Expect the first shipments of ordinance by the 14th November for all types of ammunition. The Autocannon rounds should be with you by 10th - 17th October." She told him while tapping away furiously on the TACPAD in front of her.
"The only other problem will be fuel. We need Deuterium and Hydrogen for the fusion reactors aboard the ships as well as to recharge the fuel cells on our vehicles." Keyes reminded them.
"We will have to ensure that Deuterium collection plants and hydrogen capture plants are created for refuelling the fleet. Add that to the list of necessary infrastructure." Johnson ordered his aid, Lieutenant Troy Webster. This was done quickly by the Lieutenant. "Thank you Rear Admiral for the update. See you in two weeks for the next NAVCOM meeting. Oh, and ensure that Commander 117 and Petty Officer 1st Class don't show all the Admirals up in front of interim President of the UNSC as She will be there as well." Johnson said garnering a laugh from Keyes and Denning.

Haverson was still at the SGC because of the injuries he had sustained during the mission to P3X-774. He was sat on the hospital bed he was assigned reading 'Star Wars, The Last Command' by Timothy Zahn when one of the doctors walked in. "Good afternoon doctor, how can I help you?" Haverson asked looking up from his book.
"Unfortunately, I have to tell you that Cpl Liam Derwent succumbed to his wounds taken on his previous mission to P3X-774. He died at 1430 Hours today. As you are technically his commanding officer still. It was decided that as he had no family, you would be the first informed. I apologise for causing any distress. Rest up now. You can worry about funeral arrangements once you have been discharged." The doctor informed him solemnly.
Haverson was shocked. This had never happened to him. He had lost a member of his team. Someone who was his responsibility. "Thank you doctor, please ensure that Commander Miranda Keyes of UNSC In Amber Clad is also informed. He served aboard the ship as part of the marine detachment." Haverson said before lying down to think evaluate what could have been done better.
After a good hour thinking things through he decided nothing he could do could have changed what happened. As such he was able to sleep easier that night.
The description of Lieutenant Elias Haverson's uniform is near directly out of the book Halo First Strike (2001 edition) page 49. If this description has been updated in the later rerelease of the book please inform me so that the description is accurate.
Some of the chapter is taken straight from the episode manuscript on stargate. fandom. com. While it's not the most accurate, it does have a good go at a manuscript for each episode.
SGC Should have MA37s, M45Es and M6Gs now as it is the Army/Air Force small arms, not the MA5C, M90 and M6G2.

For the ship size and weight discrepancy compared to the encyclopaedia, watch Installation 00's video titled "Lore Scale Problem - Lore and Theory". It posits an increase by 2.65% to be able to be size accurate in comparison to the C709 Longswords from Halo CE.
This also means that the Halcyon class cruiser according to the size of the 8 side hangers plus the two lower ones should carry 116 Pelicans, 8 sabres, 8 Nandaos, 6 Longswords and 4 Albatrosses.
Karen Denning is a reference to the writer of Halo Shadows of Reach, Silent Storm and Oblivion Troy Denning and Karen Traviss who wrote some of the stories in Halo Evolutions.
There was a standardisation for all the ships to carry M910 Rampart point defence guns as it makes supplying the fleet simpler with only one type of PDG instead of three. Also due to the discrepancy in the design of the M870, the Paris Class will also have 6 M66 Sentry Autocannon turrets.
I have made the decision to not do the episodes Thor's Hammer, Cor-ai and Tin Man. There will also be a massive jump in time as there was in the production with singularity occurring on the 31st October and Enigma on the 30th January. Don't worry these are not the release dates of the chapters but when the SG1 episodes came out.
