In the dead of night, footsteps raced through the sterile halls of a building. A 10 year old girl carrying a bag was being pursued. Ending up in a room with many windows outside, she found herself surrounded. Whatever was in the bag noticed the danger. The girl was frightened. Suddenly, the bag glowed, her pursuers were shocked! And the girl vanished!
Around the same time, a plane landed. A woman and two kids stepped out. These kids are twins. Named Elio and Selene! With Selene was a white Vulpix, and with Elio, a white Sandshrew. The kids' mother took then to their new home.
"Well guys, welcome home!" She said. Her Meowth seemed happy. Elio immediately jumped onto a soft box like it was a beanbag chair. The Sandshrew walked under his legs, letting him use its back as a footrest as it smiled, pretty relaxed.
"Ahhhh. This place is nice! Much better than Sinnoh and all its cold!" He said.
"Elio… Sandshrew is an ice type…and he came from Alola. There's still cold here if Ice Types are here…" Selene said, nervously fidgeting in the corner of the room. Her Vulpix cuddled her legs as she pet it, calming herself down a bit.
"Eh, it's prolly not as bad. Hey, is it night already?" Elio said. Sure enough, it was dark out.
"Yeah. It's morning in Sinnoh. Luckily, someone lent me a Hypno to help us sleep and adjust to the timezone" the kids' mom said.
"HYPNO!? MOM! HAVEN'T YOU READ THE POKÉDEX!" Selene yelled. Vulpix yelped out. It wasn't happy either.
"Yeah, thanks mom, but I'd rather nooot be abducted by a crazy Pokémon with hypnosis thank you very much!" Elio said, taking his legs off his Pokémon, who looked a little annoyed to have the weight off of it, before getting up.
"According to the Alola Pokédex, they aren't dangerous here…" the adult said. Selene was backing away and holding Vulpix. Elio went and put an arm around her.
"How about we take a little stroll while you set up the beds? That should tire us out enough to sleep!" Elio said.
"Alright. Selene, will you be fine?" Her mom asked, worried about her daughter.
"Well…it should help us get used to the place, and I'll be fine as long as Elio and Vulpix are with me! Better than taking a chance with a Hypno!" Selene said. The kids' mom sighed.
"Fine. Go on." She said. Sandshrew cheered and slid over to Elio as the kids left the house.
"Man…this place is nice!" Elio said as he walked, hands behind his back. He looked at his sister, who still looked nervous and was holding her Vulpix, petting it.
"You ok?" He asked.
"I miss home…" She said.
"Hey hey! Cheer up! This place will be fun! We can make friends! We didn't have those before!" Elio said. Selene giggled a little. Sandshrew noticed it's trainer's sister was sad, and tried to make her happy by doing tricks. Elio joined in, as Sandshrew slid around and Elio tried to balance on it like a skateboard. He was doing pretty well for how ridiculous this was, and it made Selene laugh. Elio jumped off Sandshrew.
"That's the smile I like to see!" He said.
"Thanks Elio." She said. Her Vulpix squirmed our her hands and started trying to get Elio to pet it by trying to jump on him. When he just laughed, Vulpix pouted. This caused both kids to giggle. Vulpix's expression softened and Selene's leg with its tail. Suddenly, the sound of grass rustling can be heard and the Pokémon duo immediately went on alert. Though both Pokémon were only level 4…
A HORDE of Yungoos jumped out and attacked the kids! The ice types attacked the Yungoos, but Sandshrew only knew Scratch, Defense Curl, and Mist and Vulpix only knew Powder Snow, Tail Whip, and Disable. So they were quickly overwhelmed by the seemingly infinite amounts of Yungoos. Then! Three Pokémon jumped out and attacked. One was red and black, one was blue, one was brown and green.
The red one shot out an Ember. The blue one did a spin, and used Water Gun, being very showy about it. And the last used Leafage. The Yungoos fled, though the attacks didn't do much. Almost like they knew something else was coming. The red one approached Selene, who had fallen on the ground. It looked at her with curiosity as she backed away fearfully, holding her fainted Vulpix. It sniffed her. Yep, she was scared. Well this wouldn't do. It was a starter Pokémon, it wasn't gonna let a kid be scared of it. That wouldn't look good. So it rubbed itself against her. She started to calm down. She tried to pet it but it glared at her. It didn't give out trust easily. Still, it would keep cuddling till she stopped crying.
Meanwhile, the blue one was doing a victory dance.
"Man, you are quite the performer aren't ya?" Elio said, bending down to be at eye level. The Pokémon clapped and continued dancing as Elio danced alongside it. The last Pokémon had flown away. It returned with a shirtless man in a lab coat. The kids recognized him as Professor Kukui. The Pokémon trio went over to him.
"Oh hey guys, what are you doing here?" Kukui asked. The red one started grooming itself while the blue one tried to retell what happened by putting on a one Pokémon performance.
"Y-you're Professor Kukui, right? The professor of this region?" Selene asked, getting up.
"Huh? Oh! So this is why Rowlet came to get me! Some wild Pokémon manage to beat yours?" He asked.
"Yeah, but then these guys came and scared em off!" Elio said.
"Yeah…we aren't really trainers yet. We got these Pokémon from a friend of our mom a few years ago. We didn't catch them." Selene admitted.
"I see. Well, these three are the regions starters! And Litten and Poplio seem to like you two!" Kukui said, smiling. Poplio went over to Elio and climbed all over him. Yeah this kid was fun! This should be its trainer! It chooses this kid!
Litten wandered over to Selene. This human seemed ok, probably would care for it and not make to much hassle. Besides, the girl clearly needed it to protect her. And who was Litten to leave a poor, defenseless girl like that? It was just doing the right thing. It definitely didn't like her. Nope.
"Hey hey! So I'm guessing you're Poplio? Since Litten has "lit" in its name its probably the fire type over there, so that makes you Poplio!" Elio said. Poplio clapped, before jumping out of Elio's hands and over to the fainted Sandshrew, which it hugged.
Selene picked up Litten. They stared at each other.
"You like me?" Selene said. What was Litten supposed to do? It TOTALLY didn't like her, but it didn't want her to hate it. Yeah that's totally it. So it slowly blinked at her. Selene smiled. She knew this was a way feline Pokémon such as Glameow or Meowth showed affection. She hugged it tightly!
"Aww!" She said. It tried to squrim away, but this was comfortable so it begrudgingly let her hug it.
"Alright, come with me, and I'll heal your Pokémon and give you Litten and Poplio's Pokéballs! What are your names?" Kukui said, liften up Sandshrew and Vulpix.
"I'm Elio, and that's my sister Selene!" Elio said as the group walked.
"Where are we going?" Selene asked.
"Iki town! We'll meet with Kahuna Hala, who is the one who gives out the starters!" Kukui said. It was a pretty uneventful walk. Litten enjoyed Selene carrying it, less walking it had to do. And Poplio and Elio just kept goofing off. However, once they are almost there…
"Hi Professor Kukui!" A kid said, running up to Kukui.
"Hey Hau! What are you doing awake this late?" Kukui asked.
"Oh you know, enjoying the Alolan night sky…" Hau said. Then he noticed Elio and Selene.
"Oh! Heya!" Hau said, waving. Selene instinctively went behind her brother. He laughed a little before approaching Hau.
"Name's Elio, and the scaredy Glameow over there is my sister, Selene!" He said, extending his hand for a shake.
"ELIO!" Selene yelled. Litten hissed.
"Haha! Yeah I'd say you're siblings. Hey is that a Poplio? And a Litten?" Hau asked.
"Yeah. I gave them starters. And the Pokémon in my arms are also theirs. Do you want a starter?" Kukui said.
"Sure! I guess Rowlet is all that's left, right?" Hau said. And Rowlet flew over to him. Selene was still being nervous. Hau went over to her. She backed away.
"Hey, no need to be nervous. I'm friendly!" Hau said.
"U-um…" She stuttered.
"How about a Pokémon battle? I mean, all you can use is Litten. And you have the type advantage!" Hau said.
"O-ok…" She said, setting Litten down. Rowlet flew over, ready for a fight. Litten got into an attack stance.
"Alright! Rowlet! Use leafage!" Hau yelled. Rowlet flew into the air and spinned, as thousands of sharp leaves spun around and hit Litten. Selene flinched and screamed. Then opened her eyes. Litten was ok. The attack barely did anything.
"Oh! Haha!" She laughed.
"See? Told ya we can take it easy." Hau said.
"Alright. Litten, use Ember!" Selene said. Litten coughed up a firey hairball! It hit Rowlet, sending it falling.
"N-now finish it with Scratch?" Selene said. Litten looked at Selene, sighed, and then scratched Rowlet, fainting it.
"Our first defeat! Sorry, Rowlet!" Hau said, picking up the Pokémon. Litten looked very proud. Selene went over to it. It looked at her and decided that it deserved pets. So it let Selene pet it.
"Nice job, Litten. You were amazing!" Selene said. Litten thought she deserved a little reward for not screwing up. So it went and cuddled her and purred.
"Whoa! That was awesome, Selene! You and Litten were both so cool!" Hau said. Selene blushed.
"Yeah, you did great, sis!" Elio said, patting her on the head.
"It wasn't that impressive…" Selene said sheepishly. The group continued their walk, and they finally reached Iki town. Kukui took the kids to a Pokémon center and healed Sandshrew and Vulpix. Sandshrew immediately did a little dance, while Vulpix cuddled a little with Selene.
"Hey, has anyone seen Tutu?" Hau asked.
"Nope. Hey Selene, Elio, can you help us look for Kahuna Hala?" Kukui asked.
"Sure thing! I've seen pics of the Kahunas in brochures and stuff! We'll find him in no time!" Elio said.
"Alright, why don't you head down Mahalo Trail?" Kukui said, and pointed to the trail.
"No problemo! Come on!" Elio said, dragging his sister along. The four Pokémon with them chased after the trainers.
"Elio! Was that necessary!?" Selene yelled.
"As your older brother-"
"By two minutes."
"AS YOUR OLDER BROTHER! I need to take care of you! And so I need you with me at all times!" Elio said.
"Yeah right. You'd just get lonely." Selene said with a smirk. Before Elio could respond, he heard something. He put his arm out infront of Selene, as she cowered. They saw a girl dressed in all white. With her was a bag. She was running through the trail.
"Maybe we should go back?" Selene whispered to Elio.
"No way! Let's follow her!" Elio whispered back, and he ran off with Sandshrew and Poplio close behind. Selene, not wanting to be alone, ran after him.
The girl stopped as her bag shook, just infront of a wooden bridge. A mysterious Pokémon exited.
"Nebby! Get back in the bag! It isn't safe here!" She yelled. Nebby ignored her, choosing instead to play. Then a flock of Spearow attacked it!
"Nebby!" The girl called out. Nebby was defenseless!
"Alright Poplio! Use Water Gun! Sandshrew! Scratch!" Elio yelled. Sandshrew slid down the bridge with Poplio on its back. As they moved, Poplio spun around, using watergun and hitting the Spearow while Sandshrew jumped and Slashed, almost dancing in the air which directed the Spearow's attention towards the Pokémon pair. Elio and Selene ran out, surprising the girl. The Spearow went in for Peck, but Sandshrew threw Poplio in the air, causing it to avoid the attack!
"ONE MORE TIME! WATER GUN!" Elio shouted! Poplio spun midair and used Watergun, fainting that Spearow! The Pokémon danced a victory Dance. Except then more Spearow came.
"ELIO! MOVE!" Selene yelled. Instead, Elio grabbed Nebby from the air, and held it so the Spearow couldn't get it. To protect the kid helping it, Nebby blew up the bridge, sending Elio falling. Selene ran towards the bridge, crying.
"ELIOOOOOOOOO!" She yelled, tears in her eyes. Suddenly, there was a flash of yellow. Elio opened his eyes and saw Tapu Koko, a Pokémon he saw in brochures, carrying him and Nebby! It brought them right back to Selene and the girl. The girl hugged Nebby while Selene ran to Elio and sobbed.
"I thought-I thought you were…were gonna…" Selene cried as Elio rubbed her back.
"NEBBY! BACK IN THE BAG!" The girl scolded. Nebby did as told. They didn't even notice Tapu Koko leave. The girl turned to the twins.
"Excuse me! You were so brave! Thank you for saving Nebby!" She said. Selene wiped away tears as Elio let go of her.
"Eh, it was nothing." He said. Selene grabbed his arm and held onto him. She wasn't exactly happy he brushed off almost dying.
"Well, either way, thank you! Here. Take this, a token of my gratitude!" The girl said, handing over a Sparkling Stone.
"Thanks!" Elio said, putting the stone in his pocket.
"We…we were headed to Iki town." Selene said.
"Oh! In that case, can I come with you?" The girl asked.
"Sure can! By the way, my Name's Elio! And the crybaby is Selene, my sister!" Elio said.
"HEY! YOU'D BE CRYING TOO IF YOU SAW ME ALMOST DIE!" She shouted, smacking the back of his head. He laughed it off. The girl giggled.
"My name is Lillie," she said.
"Lillie, huh? That's a pretty name!" Elio said. Lillie blushed. Selene grabbed Elio and dragged him off towards Iki Town as their Pokémon snickered.
"Hey!" He yelled.
"Payback," she said with a smirk. He pouted as Lilly walked with them.
Once they returned, they are met by Professor Kukui.
"Oh hey! Whose this?" He asked.
"I'm Lillie, sir…" She said, politely.
"What are you doing out here so late?" Kukui asked. Lillie looked nervous.
"I um..was looking for a place to stay!" She said. Nebby left the bag.
"Wow! I've never seen that Pokémon!" Kukui said, as he went over to Nebby and pet it.
"N-Nebby! You can't just do that!" Lillie shouted.
"Ah, it's OK. Anyway, why are you looking for a place to stay? Don't you have parents?" Kukui asked. At the mention of "parents", Lillie went Pale.
"Ok, ok. How about you stay the night with me?" He suggested.
"R-really!? Thank you!" Lilly said.
Then, a man approached. He was with Hau.
"Ah, Kukui. I heard you were looking for me?" The man said.
"You're Kahuna Hala! I saw you in those brochures! Just like the Pokémon that saved me!" Elio said.
"Huh? Elio, what happened?" Hau asked.
"Elio saved Nebby, my Pokémon. But the bridge blew up and they fell, but Tapu Koko saved them!" Lillie explained.
"Tapu Koko…"Ho! Although it is said to protect us, our Tapu Koko is a rather fickle creature. Yet our guardian was moved to save you." Hala said. Selene gasped.
"Wow Elio! That's so cool!" She said. He was touched, standing with a blank stare. Happy though.
Hala noticed Lillie holding something.
"Hm? Lillie... Would you be so kind as to give me a look at that sparkling stone you have there?" He said.
"Oh, sure!" She said and handed over the stone. Hala gasped
"Could it be?!" He said, "You were rescued by Tapu Koko at the bridge! So it even deigned to give you a stone... Perhaps you are here in Alola, Elio, because this is where you are meant to be. Allow me to borrow this stone for now. Fret not! I'll return it to you tomorrow evening." He said.
"Thank you, sir. But what about my sister? I am NOT gonna be some chosen one if she's not also a chosen one!" Elio said.
"ELIO DON'T BE DISRESPECTFUL!" Selene scolded. Hala laughed and turned to her.
"You have the makings of a brilliant Trainer. I can see that light within you, too." Hala said. Selene blushed.
"You must do us the honor of joining in our festival tomorrow!" Hala requested.
"Right!" The twins said in unison. The twins began to run when Kukui stopped them.
"All right, here's a lovely gift from me to help make today special!" Kukui said, and handed them each a device.
"Is this…?" Selene trailed off
"Yup! Its a Pokédex! A Pokédex is a real high-tech kinda tool, yeah, that can automatically record facts about any Pokémon that you meet. Your new partners are already registered, oh yeah, so check it out!" He handed them little passports"And this is a Trainer Passport that I had put together for you."
"Thanks! We should probably head home though…" Selene said.
"Yeah, almost dying made me tired!" Elio said, stretching.
"Maybe we don't tell mom that part." Selene said. The twins waved goodbye and ran home. When they got home, they found their mom and her Meowth asleep. And in their room, only one of the bunk beds was set up. The twins shrugged. They liked cuddles anyway. After getting into bed, Litten crawled on, sleeping at the foot of the bed. Poplio slept beside the bed. And Vulpix and Sandshrew slept together.
The twins were about to start an unforgettable adventure…
