November 3rd, 9:00 PM, Tokyo, 1954
"Are we on?" Hagiwara asked as he tapped his microphone. He was currently on a radio tower overlooking Tokyo with his fellow NJN reporters. They were required to due a real-time report seeing as Godzilla was now advancing on Japan's capital.
"We're on," his co-reporter nodded.
Hagiwara began to speak into his microphone.
"Hagiwara Inari, New Japan News reporting." he spoke. "Here in Tokyo, time has been turned back sixty seven million years. This is my report as it happens. Just an hour ago, the giant monster named Godzilla rose out of Tokyo Bay and is now approaching the city. He stands at fifty meters, as tall as a thirty-story building."
He watched as Godzilla stepped down on a concrete barrier, crushing it to dust beneath his foot. Godzilla let loose his thunderous roar, splitting the night sky and giving Hagiwara and his colleagues a jolt.
Really hope the folks tuning in heard that, he thought.
Godzilla continued onward, toward the line of electrical towers.
"Now he is making his way towards the city's main line of defense," Hagiwara reported. "Three hundred thousand volts of electricity strung around the city like a barrier, and beyond that, a line of artillery waiting to blow him to Kingdom Come."
He watched as Godzilla froze in front of the towers. He swung his gargantuan head back and forth as though looking for a way around the towers. He seemed to realize he couldn't go around, so he opted to go through. He slowly reached out one four-taloned hand toward coils.
"Godzilla's reached the electrical towers." Honda announced. "Switch them on."
The lever was switched with a click.
Godzilla's body was lit up in sparks that popped and sizzled on his reptilian flesh. The monster let loose a roar of either pain or frustration. During this time, artillery shells and tracer rounds split through the sky. While the bullets didn't seem to have much effect on the beast, the shells seemed to do some amount of damage. All the while, Godzilla continued to writhe and thrash in the cables, further getting entangled in them, all the while the smell of burned flesh permeated through the air. Hagiwara had a ping of hope in him. Maybe this would work after all. Maybe this was where Godzilla died. He could only hope.
"Hey," his co-reporter said, pointing to Godzilla. "What's he doing?"
Hagiwara looked to where he was looking and his eyes widened. Godzilla had stopped struggling and looked... relatively angrier than he had before. Not only that, but now, his dorsal fins started glowing an ethereal blue light starting from the top of his head all the way down to his tail. His eyes had gone from a reddish-orange color to a cold blue coloration and, every time he breathed in and out, wisps of ghostly blue mist filled the air. Before anyone could comprehend what they saw, Godzilla opened his jaws, and instead of a roar, a stream of silvery blue energy shot from mouth with the sound of a thunderclap mixed with a flamethrower and struck the towers, melting them where they stood. He then turned his head towards the artillery platoon and launched the same blast of fire at them. The cannons and tanks were launched into the sky with a tremendous explosion while the soldiers were reduced to dust in the blink of an eye. With a grunt, Godzilla continued onward, unopposed.
"Go-Godzilla has managed to destroy the barrier with some kind of fire from his mouth," Hagiwara reported, noting how his voice trembled in shock. "I-I-I can hardly believe at what has just happened. Now, it seems Tokyo has no defense."
Godzilla lumbered through the streets of Tokyo, the pavement rippling and shattering with every step he took. Meanwhile, his tail would swing to and fro, annihilating any structure to his left and right. The civilians who couldn't make it out in time scrambled to get out of his path. Buildings in his path fell apart like they were made of playing cards and the incandescent light he would vomit from his jaws every so often set the city ablaze. Those who couldn't make it far enough were engulfed in the blast wave and reduced to ash statues which crumbled under Godzilla's footsteps. In the midst of this, firetrucks drove around the city in response to the fires, only to come across Godzilla. One truck swerved to get away from him only to crash into a building, killing its driver, while the other made such a sharp turn that it flipped over itself, killing its entire crew. Warehouses crumpled under Godzilla's feet while his tail smashed buildings left and right. A platoon of tanks rolled up the giant monster and proceeded to open fire upon him.
Godzilla let out a roar of annoyance and turned his attention to the machines. A simple blast of his fiery breath melted the entire platoon and burned their crews alive.
In GRID HQ, it was total chaos.
"Uncontrolled fires have been reported in the Shibaura District!"
"Headquarters calling Car Four Nine Seven, please respond!"
"Forty Ninth Armored Division completely destroyed!"
The GRID commander just shook his head. How could he or anyone ever predicted that such a monster could be capable of this much destructive power? More importantly, how could he be shrugging off every weapon thrown at him?
Meanwhile, far away from the carnage, Shinkichi and Ogata were in charge of helping with evacuations. Even from that far away, they could see the plumes of flame in the horizon and the occasional burst of blue flame from Godzilla. For Ogata, who had been four years old during the fire bombings in the war, so this instantly reminded him of that, but on a much, much bigger scale, and instead of planes dropping bombs, it was a gargantuan saurian wreaking havoc. Just then, the two men saw a silhouette in front of a building plastering something on it.
"Hey!" Shinkichi yelled.
The man turned, stared at them for a few seconds, and bolted off into the night. Ogata and Shinkichi rushed to see what he had put on the building. It was a flier for the Children of Godzilla.
"Son of a-!" Ogata cursed under his breath.
"Let's get him!" Shinkichi told him.
With that, they chased after the cultist. The man proved too fast and nimble for them to catch. What's worse, they could feel vibrations under their feet. They looked up and saw Godzilla looming ahead.
"Godzilla!" Ogata cried out. "Take cover!"
The two men dashed into an alley as Godzilla passed them by.
November 3rd, 10:54 PM, Ginza, 1954
Inoue Mizuki huddled in an alleyway with her three children, Sasuke, Ryuko, and Mari. She and her children had evacuated yesterday but got separated from the exodus and found themselves stranded in the Ginza. She believed that, come the morning, they would seek shelter and reach the safe zone in Shibuya. However, that all changed when Godzilla had broken through the barriers and was now advancing through Tokyo. She could already hear the sounds of people screaming in fear or agony only to be cut short. She could feel the vibrations from Godzilla's footsteps as he got closer and closer like an unstoppable shinigami. Just then, she saw his gargantuan visage enter the Ginza, his colossal form tearing through the city and buildings falling before his mass. The taller buildings were ripped to shreds by his talons and the debris fell on people who couldn't get away in time and died in the streets. Just then, he paused and loosed his ghostly blue flame upon the streets, sending up storms of fire that engulfed the city square.
Mizuki could hear her children whimpering as they huddled close to their mother. All she could do was embrace her son and daughters and looked upon their frightened faces. She could see bits and pieces of her dear husband Sakaki in each of them; Sasuke had his eyes, Ryuko had his hair, and Mari his face. They were all she had to remember of him ever since he was shipped off to war and never came home, his ship having been destroyed in Midway, Ryuko and Mari were only five and six respectively when he died and Sasuke never even met him as he was born March of this year. She saw the tsunami of fire heading towards her and her children and gave them all a comforting smile.
"It's alright," she told them. "It's alright. Don't worry."
"What are we going to do, Mama?" Ryuko asked.
"Just close your eyes," she told her. "All of you, just close your eyes. We're going to see your Daddy. Just a few more minutes and we'll be with Daddy again."
She looked up and saw the flames drawing closer and closer.
"Just a few more minutes..."
Hagiwara watched in awestruck horror as Godzilla tore the Ginza apart like it was nothing. He noticed Godzilla's eyes falling upon the Wako Clock Tower. The tower let out a ring as Godzilla approached it. In a display of territorial wrath, Godzilla dug his talons into the clock and sent it crashing down on a group of soldiers, the ringing reduced to a death rattle.
"To anyone who can still hear me, the level of carnage I am seeing is tremendous," Hagiwara spoke into his mic as calmly as he could. "I'm sending a prayer, a prayer to all the world. I have seen tanks wiped out at point blank range. At this point, neither man nor machine can stop Godzilla's onslaught. As far as the eye can see, Godzilla has turned the capital of Japan into a sea of fire."
His fellow reporters took pictures of the rampaging colossus. One flash caught Godzilla's attention. First his eyes peered from their peripheral corners, then the head turned, and finally, the entire body of the giant saurian was facing them. Even from this far away, his growl echoed through their bones. Just then, he started to advance towards them, buildings, trains, and more crumpled in his wake.
"Godzilla has spotted us," Hagiwara announced. "And now he is moving towards us. This will probably be our last report ever."
Just then, Godzilla closed the distance and started to reach toward the tower.
"From New Japan News," Hagiwara spoke, his throat tightening. "This is Hagiwara Inari, signing off. Goodbye, everyone."
With that, he felt the tower lurch and fall. He could hear his colleagues screaming as they plummeted to the ground and hit it with thick, meaty smacks like backs of wet cement. As for Hagiwara, he watched as the ground got closer and closer.
Serizawa watched the carnage unfold from his laboratory. Though he was miles from Godzilla's path of destruction, he felt a cold chill run down his spine as images from his time in the war played back to him in real time. He could just imagine the number of people dead in the streets and the once tall buildings now piles of rubble on the ground. Okimi had brought down his tea and turned to look, the kettle dropping out of her hand and spilling earthy-smelling liquid on the floor. He didn't need to turn around to see the look of horror plastered on her face.
"Godzilla has been sighted returning to the sea," the newscaster reported. "Meanwhile, massive firestorms have been reported all across Tokyo."
As he watched, he turned his gaze back to his notes and then back to the screen.
Emiko and Yamane watched, along with several hundred other refugees as Godzilla advanced upon the bridge. He lashed out and gripped the bridge in his talons and tossed it into the bay. The impact sent up a wave that capsized the anchored ships.
"Damned beast." she heard someone in the crowd whisper.
Just then, they could hear the sound of fighter jets in the sky and people cheered as three Sabers descended from the clouds, firing their payload onto Godzilla. Godzilla let out a roar of annoyance and turned his head to face the scattering jets which came in for another assault. One jet got too close to Godzilla who grabbed it, crushing it as though it were a gnat. He threw the remains of the jet at another, causing it to explode in mid-air with the wreckage of both plummeting to the ground. The last one was turned into a comet by Godzilla's fiery breath and it crashed into a fish market, both going up in a ball of fire.
Godzilla let loose a thunderous roar which echoed throughout midnight sky before dipping his head into the water, the last sight anyone saw of him, were his dorsal fins and tail sticking above the surface before they disappeared too.
