A Scary Movie

Chapter 4: An Unpleasant Night

It was late at night, and the Shortman family were fast asleep right now.

Well, one member was trying to.

It was Henry, who was still a little shaken from the scary movie that he watched without his parents permission. The youngest of the children tossed and turned in his bed, unable to properly sleep.

His young mind was still haunted by the scary movie and images popped in his head.

Scary ones.

"No! They are gonna get me! They are gonna get me!..." He whimpered as he was having a nightmare.

One of the monstrous villains of the film waiting until he was asleep before going after him.

The blonde child woke up with a start, pale face and tears forming in his eyes after having that nightmare.

"It's not real. It's not real...Andy and Megan said so. It's not real..." He whimpered.

Unfortunately, the scary images did not go away. He wanted to run to his parents room like he usually does when he has a bad dream, but he couldn't.

"If Mommy finds out I saw that movie, I'm gonna get in trouble..." He whispered, upset and feeling even more scared.

He sat up, staying in a fetal position, too scared to even close his eyes.

A car passed by, the lights causing a shadow to pass him, taking the shape of what looked like two figures.

Figures that reminded him of a certain duo of evil twins from the film.

Frightened, Henry got out of his bed and went to the closest room that he could find.

That of his eldest brother.

In Andy's room

Henry slipped into his big brothers room, trying hard not to make a lot of noise and wake up his parents.

The little blonde boy crawled into his brothers room, where Andy is still sleeping peacefully in his own bed.

Andy snored softly, while his little brother tried to wake him up.

"Andy? Andy? Wake up, big brother!..."Henry said in a hushed voice, as he poked him in the arm.

Andy groaned, as he slowly stirred awake. As he opened his eyes, he yawned and saw his little brother.

"Henry, what's wrong?..." Andy asked in a groggy way, before he noticed the time on his alarm clock.

"Its after midnight..." He said, as he rubbed his eyes.

"Sorry...couldn't sleep..." Henry said, looking regretful as he sniffled a bit.

Andy noticed this and got up..

"What's wrong, little bro?..." The older boy asked with concern, seeing how upset he is.

"I had a bad dream..." Henry said in a soft voice.

"I dreamed that those Evil Twins were after me... like they did to those kids in the movie...and...I just...couldn't take it anymore..." He confessed with teary eyes, still scared about that movie they watched earlier.

Andy, seeing Henry's distress, felt sorry for him and tried to comfort his little brother.

"Henry, it was just a movie. Those Evil twins aren't real and you know that. We all know that they are not real..." Andy said, but his little brother kept crying.

"But it was so scary!..."Henry cried, acting very much like a scared 4 year old.

Andy sighed as he pulled his brother into a hug, trying to calm him down.

"Its gonna be okay, little bro. No worries, I'm here and they're not real. I promise..." Andy said, trying to be gentle and patient as he brother sit on his bed.

"I'm scared. I can't stop thinking about those twins...and how they scared me. I'm afraid that they will show up and chase after me like in my dream...but for real..." Henry said, still terrified.

Andy felt guilty now.

"Mom was right, letting him watch the movie with us was a bad idea..." He thought, as he kept comforting his little brother..

"Maybe we should talk with Mom and Dad and see if they can help..." Andy suggested, only to see Henry panicking further.

"No. Mommy is gonna be really mad. And she's scarier than the twins when she gets mad..." Henry said, not wanting to get in trouble.

"True..." Andy admitted, being just as scared of their mother's temper.

"Okay, okay, I get it. I won't tell Mommy. I swear..." Andy said, understanding.

While they both loved and respected their mother with all their hearts, Andy knew that she was very overprotective and can be pretty scary herself when she is mad.

"Not to mention I don't wanna know how mad she will get once she finds out me and Megan LET Henry watch that movie with us..." Andy thought, not wanting to deal with that either.

So, he settled with trying to calm his brother himself.

Right now, his little brother was clinging to him and begging not to be alone right now.

"Can I sleep in your room tonight? My room feels too scary now, even with my nightlight..." Henry said.

"Sure..." Andy said in a reassuring way.

Henry crawled into his brothers bed, finding comfort and relief right now.

"Thanks, Andy. You're the best..." Henry said, calming a bit.

"I know, Henry and no worries, I can protect you from anything. Even if the Evil Twins aren't real, I will protect you. Promise..." Andy said, trying to sound tough to reassure his younger sibling.

Henry, feeling safer and secure now with his big brother by his side, he began to relax a little more.

The two fell asleep, somewhat more relaxed. However, Henry still felt uneasy as he feared the evil twins.

Or worse, his mother finding out.

The Next Morning

It was breakfast time and the Shortman family were at the table, sans two members.

Helga made pancakes, eggs and bacon as well as toast and juice, while her husband and daughter sat at the table. Arnold read the morning paper and drank some coffee as Megan readied her plate.

"Mom, can I have extra blueberries for my pancakes?..." Megan asked.

"Sure, Angel..." Helga said, as she kept making breakfast.

She began to serve breakfast for her family, but she noticed that her sons were still not at the table.

"Where are the boys?..." Helga asked.

"They must still be upstairs. Probably still sawing logs or something..." Megan said as she ate her pancakes.

Helga frowned, not liking it when woke up late. She always liked it when they all had breakfast together as a family. And on time too.

She tapped her foot a moment before deciding to ask her husband to do something.

"Arnold, can you get the boys?..." Helga asked. "I still have some pancakes to flip..." She added.

"Sure, Honey..." Arnold said as he got up.

However, that was when they arrived.

"Morning family..." Andy said, yawning a bit.

"Morning Mommy. Morning Daddy..." Henry said, trying to act normal.

"Morning boys..." Arnold said.

"Hey boys, good morning. Almost done with breakfast..." Helga said as she flipped another pancake..

"Sleep well?..." She asked, noticing how tired Andy looked.

"Like the dead..." Andy muttered, tired.

Thanks to his little brother's snoring, tossing and turning, and clinginess, it made it difficult for him to get a full nights rest.

"Last time I let him stay after midnight..."He thought somewhat bitterly, as he sent his brother a look.

Henry flinched and looked away, ashamed of himself.

"Uh...yeah...like the dead..." Henry said, avoiding eye sight with anyone.

"I hope that you're all rested and ready. Now eat up, we got a whole day ahead of us..." Helga said, as she placed the food in front of them.

"Yeah, best hurry. You don't want to miss it..." Arnold added, before taking another sip of his coffee.

"Okay, Mommy and Daddy..." Henry said as he tried to focus on his breakfast and not on the evil twins and their scary movie.

"Yeah, I'm ready for the day..." Andy semi lied, not wanting to get caught.

He yawned, not having slept well that night but tried to hide it.

Megan sent them a weirded out look, but Andy sent her a secret gesture to let her know that they needed to talk later. Megan understood and said nothing as she pretended that everything is normal.

"Henry did something again, didn't he? I can tell. I knew we shouldn't have let him watch that movie with us..."She thought as she took another bite of her pancakes.

Henry barely kept his eyes open as he took a bite of his meal, trying not to think about the scary movie and his mother's reaction to him watching it.

He tried to hide what he did, and act normal, while his brother tried to stay awake as he ate his breakfast.

Helga noticed the behavior from her kids and raised a brow.

"Something feels off. I can feel it..." She thought as her maternal instincts kicked in.

It seems she'll have to keep a close eye on her kids, as well as consult her husband later.

Whatever they're up to, she'll find out.

The family continued to eat his breakfast, and Henry tried to focus on eating and looking innocent.

And failing.
