Canyons are some of the most barren places on earth. They are filled with large plateaus deep cervices hundreds of feet deep as well as jagged and tall rock formations. Normally these canyons would only be disturbed by the large breezes and the huge gusts of wind but today there was something very different. In a flat and highly exposed part of the canyon stood something that was tougher than all the rocks in the canyon combined, more than all the rocks on earth for that matter. In this wasteland stood a man, taller than average and a physique that was perfectly toned on the chest, stomach and arms, it was Goku.
Goku stood with his normal spiky black hair with three large bangs sticking out to his right side adding several inches to his height. The warrior also had 3 jagged bangs to his left sticking out at a 45-degree angle from his head. He wore a pair of golden yellow pants with a blue Gi top which exposed his chest in a V-shape on his front. He had a white belt around his waist and black martial arts shoes with silver ankle bracelets.
The savior of the planet earth often enjoyed spending his mornings here, it reminded him of many battles he'd had over the years. Most notably Vegeta, although now an ally to the hero of earth, he still remembered what it was like the first time he met the Saiyan in combat all those years ago. The quiet place was the perfect way to clear his mind before starting his day of intense training. The pure hearted Saiyan would close his eyes and imagine many battles he'd had in the past as well as allowing his energy to flow throughout his body. The Saiyan did not allow himself to be surrounded by an aura of Ki energy just yet but having his current power flow through his body allowed the Saiyan to feel where he was at and got him in a better mood to break through his limitations as a fighter.
Goku suddenly smiled having sensed his apprentice flying towards him. "MASTER!" shouted his pupil. Goku still had his eyes closed as Uub approached him from behind. As Uub flew towards his teacher he was surrounded in a light silver aura he slowly descended to meet his teacher. As Uub touched the ground the aura disappeared, and he was about 5-6 feet away from his teacher. "I'm ready for some intense training today master!" said Uub excitedly.
Uub was not un-impressive in terms of his appearance although noticeably shorter than Goku by at least a head, his dark skin still showed his finely tuned muscle mass around his arms. Goku having just opened his eyes saw that Uub had taken to wearing his old style of Gi. This made Goku smile with his usual cheerful demeanor. "Well, it seems like your mom got my exact style right! Hehe" said Goku. "Yup! Like I said she can sow anything she wants".
Goku did take a moment to admire the mother of his student's craftsmanship. The orange shirt was in a very similar style to his own Gi top, but Uub had a blue undershirt underneath the top. The belt was a blue belt like his own along with the boots and wrist bands. Uub's orange pants were the same color as his shirt as they should be. "So, what do we have planned today master?" Right after he asked this another gust of wind flew past them blowing Uub's black hair slightly to the left. Uub's hair hadn't changed at all since the day he met Goku always in the mohawk style.
Goku smiled "Well Uub before we get to that I need to see where you're at. Charge up to your maximum" Goku said matter-of-factly. "Well do you mean with all my hidden power? I can't do that at will-" Uub started. "I know" said Goku. "I mean power up to your maximum without tapping into your rage".
Uub was admittedly a little confused usually this isn't how they started their training sessions usually they'd start with warming up and then kick it into high gear. "Um okay" Uub stuttered. Uub obeyed his master, clenched his fists and started to power up. Uub's silver aura from when he was flying re-appeared. Uub started to let out an intense cry. Goku smiled and grew prouder the stronger Uub's Ki became. In about 10 seconds Uub had reached his maximum his aura briefly grew to about 3 times his own height, making a large explosion which made several large boulders crumble into pebbles. Dust briefly hid Uub from the sight of his teacher but when he finally reappeared in Goku's vision the aura had grown smaller than a moment ago but was a lot more jagged than before. Uub's expression had grown more serious much to Goku's delight. Uub's jagged aura was only a little bigger than Uub's own body, but it was fierce. "Good" Goku said. Goku immediately powered up himself, the amount of dust that was kicked up was just as big if not greater than Uub's. Goku also surrounded himself in a silver/white aura and said, "Come at me, Uub". Uub hesitated "Master isn't it a little dangerous to fight down here? I mean if we're going to spar at this level wouldn't we-"
"It's your job to make sure that that doesn't happen Uub". Student and master had both correctly understood that Uub was concerned about destroying the planet. Goku was a lot more serious than normal and that was intentional he had been planning this test for a few weeks now.
Goku lunged at Uub throwing a massive Punch. Uub threw up both of his arms to block it, but it still hurt to block. Goku wasted no time and kicked Uub in the stomach which sent him flying to the ground behind him. Goku flew after Uub in hot pursuit throwing roundhouse kicks, knee strikes and hard punches at his student. Uub was thrown off though, his master was considerably more serious than usual. The normal cheerfulness briefly showed itself when he showed up but this matter-of-fact attitude, this early in their training was a little off-putting. Uub powered up briefly and then flew away about 50 feet backwards in the canyon. Uub got into a crouching stance with his left arm straight out ready to block and his right hand in back ready to strike, if need be, but almost immediately Goku appeared from above and smacked Uub with an ax-kick from above which smacked him threw the ground below him and into a deep crevasse.
Goku flew down with Uub into the crevasse and dashed at his pupil. Still sensing Uub's hesitation, Goku put his left hand forward which Uub managed to block. "Come on Uub...snap out of it!" he barked as he kicked Uub in the chin. Uub suddenly became more aggressive as he dashed at his master throwing punch after punch with an occasional kick but Goku, sensing an opening struck Uub in the ribs immediately following it up with a back kick which connected with Uub's chest. Goku dashed at Uub again only to be met with an energy blast from his pupil. Goku moved to the side to avoid the yellow beam and kneed Uub in the stomach, immediately elbowed him in the back of the head and swung his other leg around for a roundhouse kick which connected to the side of Uub's head. Uub regained his balance and when Goku dashed again, Uub waited until he was in front of him and pushed his hand forward to fire a Ki blast at near-point-blank range. Goku used instant transmission to barely avoid it by going behind Uub's back, but the earthling was ready and threw a firm back-kick to Goku's torso sending him backwards. Uub then dashed towards Goku as his master threw up his hands to block and started throwing hard strikes from all angles. Goku only blocked some of them, but a few got through one to his face and two to his body the latter of which sent Goku back about 3 meters.
Uub flew from above and Goku regained his balance flying back at Uub, they both threw punches at the same time making their fists collide. The result was astounding the shockwave of the punches blew apart the 2 mountain pieces on either side that made up the crevasse that the 2 were in. The mountain Halves crumbled and as they were falling Goku and Uub were fighting each other faster than the eyes could see, normal human eyes that is.
The student and master hammered each other, throwing what seemed like dozens if not hundreds of strikes at each other. Nobody was keeping track, all that mattered to each of them was the fight before them. Uub landed a punch to Goku's left cheek and Goku landed a front kick to Uub's chin, making each of the fighters return to the ground.
Goku looked at his student, he had gotten his head in the game and was taking things seriously but now it was time for the real test of the day. Goku smirked and fired a big energy blast the ball being about a meter in diameter and a meter wide Uub struggled with the blast but managed to deflect it into the air so that it formed a massive yellow explosion. Goku fired a few energy blasts that were much weaker but a lot faster, Uub deflected them. Getting cocky he shouted, "Is that a joke?" A second later his teacher fired another few blasts of about the same strength, but they detonated before hitting him which blinded Uub for a time. Right when Uub regained his composure a much larger energy blast was flowing at him, and he barely had time to block it. Uub's hands burned as the ball of energy pushed him backwards as he struggled to push it back. Uub flew back about 20 meters before finally being able to deflect the blast into the sky. Uub was then attacked by a barrage of intense blasts again all of which he deflected but he noticed that they were lethal blasts, so he deflected all of them into the sky where they all exploded.
Uub was angry at the reckless amount of power that his master had put into those blasts if they had been shot directly at the ground or near them, they could have seriously damaged the earth. Uub had had enough and angrily charged his master "Knock it off!" shouted Uub has he dashed forward. Uub's power sky-rocketed dozens of times from what it was before as he threw a massive punch to Goku which formed a huge explosion on contact. It was easily the biggest explosion all day shattered more of the multi-mile long canyon than before. As the dust settled Uub was standing over Goku with his fist still outstretched but when the dust cleared it revealed Goku, now enveloped in a Golden Yellow aura having transformed into a Super Saiyan. The dust flew away revealing the Saiyan's hair that stood up straight up and his face noticeably more serious. Goku's fist stung, a lot! Uub stood in midair for a little bit but Goku quickly got a smile on his face.
"Relax Uub, you passed" Goku said in his normal cheerful voice. Uub was still skeptical, he'd wanted his master's usual cheerful demeanor to return since the start of the training session today, but he didn't want to be caught off guard again. "What do you mean?" Uub demanded. "Don't you remember?" Goku asked. "Remember what?" Uub said in a less aggressive tone than before. "The surprise test that I said I'd give you?" pressed Goku further. Uub thought for a moment and then it hit him that Goku had indeed promised him a surprise test, but he had been rather vague about it.
Uub relaxed his aura but didn't drop his guard. Goku smiled and stood straight up reverting to his normal black-haired state. "Yeah, sorry about that but I had to make sure that you were able to fight like you meant it even when you weren't prepared. You still protected the earth, getting into the swing of things very quickly!" said Goku. It suddenly all made sense to Uub, Goku's serious no-nonsense attitude was a front, not that his master was incapable of being serious when the situation warranted it, but it was not typical of their training sessions together.
"Master why did you fire all those blasts at me that were so un-controlled? What if I hadn't been able to handle it?" Asked Uub. "It's simple" said Goku. He out-stretched his palm and formed an energy ball and released it from his hand only to control it and make the ball fly around in circles. "I could always have redirected those attacks upwards if you had failed your test" assured Goku. Uub finally got out of his fighting stance fully convinced that Goku was acting normal again.
"Please don't make a habit of that Goku." Uub implored. "Don't worry you passed, I won't need to do it again, not if you keep improving that is." said Goku. "Well about that what is the rest of the training going to consist of?" inquired Uub hoping to return to some semblance of normalcy to the routine. Goku said "Well it's your final lesson! At least for a while" answered Goku.
"What?! My final lesson? What do you mean Goku?" asked Uub. "In order to become the best fighter, you can be. You need to spend some time training on your own, developing your own style and way of doing things. That will require that you take some time away from me to hone your skills." Goku said. "You and I have been training together for 5 years now. These last 2 years I spent taking you to otherworld for trips and training matches along with plenty of other planets. I was around you practically every day. You need to learn to be able to have the motivation to train on your own if you want to be the best fighter you can be" finished Goku. Uub saw Goku's point but it was so sudden that he felt so unprepared.
"Yes, but master, I-I guess... I just..." Uub started. "Don't worry this isn't permanent. I'm not saying I'll never see you again. It's just that I can't hold your hand forever Uub. My master sent me out on my own to get stronger when I was younger than you are so I'm sure you can handle it!" assured Goku.
"Well, it's not that I can't handle it" clarified Uub. "It's just that I feel like there is so much more to learn, I mean even with all my rage I'm still far weaker than you are now. I know you want me to be someone to protect the earth if something ever happens to you but honestly, I just don't know what else to do? I feel like without you training me the gap between us will just get bigger!" Uub finished and looked at Goku who was not smiling anymore.
"Uub, you can't think that way" said Goku firmly but gently. Uub could almost tell Goku had made up his mind and that there is no way to convince him otherwise, but Goku didn't stop there. "Uub when I first met you, you could barely control your power unless you were angry. In fact, you were only able to challenge me when you got angry, and I remained in my normal state. Today if you were to fight the "me" from 5 years ago, I'd be no match for you no matter how hard I fought" said Goku.
"Today when you got mad, you were even stronger than me as a Super Saiyan. You can't say that you're going to fall behind if I don't train you" Goku continued. Uub had to admit that he had a point, he had increased his power astronomically in the half a decade he'd been Goku's student. Maybe he could do it!
"Well, I'll do my best master!" said Uub hesitantly. "Good then here's the final test" says Goku "You'll need to force me to become a Super Saiyan without resorting to your rage. "Uub suddenly got a big pit in his stomach. Uub had never managed he could do such a feat. The first time he'd ever fought Goku 5 years ago his rage and full power was only enough to fight equally with Goku in his natural state. Had Goku transformed or not provoked him into being angry he would have lost immediately. Throughout tthe years Goku had sparring sessions with Uub but when Uub was fighting in his natural state he could tell that Goku had to hold back significantly to avoid knocking him out fast. Sure he'd gotten much more powerful but he never imagined being able to fight against the great Goku.
"Master..." Uub uttered. Sensing his pupil's distress Goku quickly re-assured him "Hey, I wouldn't propose this if I didn't think you had a chance. Besides sometimes challenges come that you aren't ready for, and you need to find a way to meet it no matter what. Even you fail, then you try again and keep coming back until you've managed to overcome the wall that the challenge represents!" Uub smiled at this, he knew his master could be a total goofball but when he needed to inspire someone, he always seemed to know what to say. "Okay master! I'll try!" - Uub said with a grin.
Goku smiled and "Alright then follow me!" - W-Wait!" Uub said. "Where are we going?" asked Uub. "The planet can't handle what we're going to do so we need to go to the lookout!" Goku answered. "The lookout? Why there?" asked Uub. "Dende has been making a very advanced and special room for training it's far more durable than the earth itself so we can go all-out up there!" Uub was a bit surprised, but he simply nodded and started flying with his master to the lookout! As the 2 heroic warriors flew to the lookout another group was watching and were anything but heroes.
