SAD DAY
She wanted to take the baby with her but I told her I could manage for few hours.
She had just nursed her and when being only two weeks old the baby slept most of time.
Our older boys were now sleeping too though they protested about going to bed before their mother returned home.
Kasuf had died this morning and the whole town was grieving. Especially Shauri and Skaara were heartbroken. I suggested that they should meet privately so they could talk properly. We had gathered together earlier but I felt that they hold back their feelings and thoughts beacuse there were children and others around.
Kasuf wasn´t particularly aged but life expectancy here isn´t as long as in Earth. People here probably think that Kasuf died of old age but I suspect that he had some sort of cancer. About a year ago he suffered some kind of seizure but survived from it though things weren't the same. Slowly he started to wither away. I asked him once if he wanted me to contact Earth for help but he denied. He told me that he accepts his fate. He reminded me the we had agreed to contact Earth only if this planet was in serious danger and added that this wasn't the case. I feel guilty about this decision now when I see how devasteded everyone are. Maybe my people could have given Kasuf few more years.
I know that now starts the talk about who will be the towns new leader. Skaara is rightfully the man to take charge but some might think he is quite young for the job. Shauri already told me that she doesn't want that much responsibility, our children are so small and she enjoys when she sometimes has time to teach the towns kids to read and write. It's clear that I'm not an option, they need to be lead by one of their own.
About an hour later she returned home looking very tired. I walked up to her and hugged her and heard when she started to sob. We stood ther some time and I stroke her back wishing my nearness would give her some comfort. Suddenly a small cry came from the basket near us and I let her go. Even though her mood was down she could easily bring smile to her face and bable to our little girl. When she changed her to dry cloths she admitted that she had thought of returning to fetch the baby but was now glad that everything seemed fine. I was a bit insulted by that but now wasn't the time to argue about my abilities to take care of our kids.
She started to nurse our girl and shared some things about what the siblings had talked about. Skaara had said that he will take his father place but wants our support. They fear that some town elders will oppose this idea and frankly I fear this too. Now when there is not a commom enemy to hold the people together,
groups start to form. I just wish people here could more sensible than back in Earth. My life in here has been so good and I don't want things to change.
I said to my wife that it is obvious the we support and help his brother in any way we can and she gave me a smile. "Dan'yiel..".Tears were in her eyes again. I responded her telling I love her too.
