"No, Wends you are not doing this again!" Enid cried out, standing in the doorway to their dorm room. Wednesday sighed and turned to look at Enid, who stood with her hands on her hips with an exasperated expression, her lips pursed. Wednesday looked the colourful wolf up and down before turning back to the sacred circle.
Enid was not deterred.
"Do you not remember what happened last time?" Enid implored as she came round the circle back into Wednesday's line of sight. The memories of a small fire and a screaming Enid entered her mind.
"I extinguished the fire, did I not?" Wednesday asked
Enid stomped her foot. "That's not the point!" Enid said, pouting. "You set the room on fire wends!"
"And I promised to be more careful next time" Wednesday replied, adding a hint of monkshood to the concoction. Enid looked half torn about what to do.
"What are you doing anyway?" Enid asked, her curiosity piqued.
Wednesday spared her a cursory glance before using a mortar and pestle to grind several ingredients together.
"I am attempting to duplicate myself" Wednesday revealed. "I have heard some fascinating implications from people that managed to achieve such a state."
"Duplicate?" Enid squeaked out "As in cloning?"
Wednesday glanced at Enid again "Not exactly. It involves splitting one's consciousness into two, allowing both to exist separately temporarily. Same memories, same thoughts, same feelings, desires and motivations."
"Wow that's actually creepy, very on brand for you" Enid said teasingly with a small smile.
"Perhaps" Wednesday relented.
"So why would anyone want to do that?" Enid questioned, leaning forwards.
Wednesday shrugged "Everyone has their own reasons, at the end of a sixteen hour period, the two beings merge once more, remembering everything that both halves did that day."
"So what are you going to do if you manage to clone yourself?" Enid asked excitedly.
"Duplicate..." Wednesday corrected, Enid merely shrugged playfully, Wednesday rolled her eyes in response as Enid let out a low giggle. "... I plan for one half of me to attend classes and perform all commitments as normal"
"Boring" Enid instantly declared, but wilted under Wednesday's resulting glare. "but the other me? I wish to study a grimoire that mother and father sent me for Christmas, but the text is in code, and the codex to decipher it is also in code. It will take considerable lengths of uninterrupted time to crack the codes and unveil the secrets within."
Enid furrowed her brow for a moment, until her face as lit up with a smile filled gasp "Oh! So because other you will remember everything you can crack the code and still retain the information afterwards."
Wednesday's eyes held a glittering deviousness to them. "Precisely" Enid beamed in response in obvious pride.
"Will you share it with me when you do figure it out? Gotta share the bragging rights with someone." Enid asked a little too innocently, although her grin was anything but.
"You are too devious for your own good Enid Sinclair." Wednesday declared, pride laced in her tone. Enid blushed and preened with obvious joy.
"You have seen nothing of me yet, Wednesday Addams" Enid retorted, her face alight with a red tinge.
"No, I don't believe I have" Wednesday admitted, before looking down to see that had now ground the contents of her pestle into a fine powder. "You are an enigma Enid, every time I feel like I know you completely, you surprise me."
Enid shifted slightly in the spot in front of Wednesday "Is that bad?" she whispered. Wednesday looked up sharply at the worried edge to her tone, Enid was biting her lip apprehensively.
"Of course not" Their eyes met. "And even if that were true it wouldn't change a thing, get your mother's vile rhetoric out of your head, her opinion of you is beneath you" Wednesday said with as much comfort as one with a voice of monotone could muster. Enid whimpered, her lip trembled as she stared unabashed at the raven as she crushed a purple root in-between her fingers.
"You... you always know what to say Wends" Enid said lowly, staring down at her feet to hide her crimson blush.
"I linger and fester in darkness but you thrive and grow in the light, and I won't let another's darkness stifle your light." Wednesday said promised. "Not even that horrid woman you call a mother."
Enid smiled, a glint in her eye "Admit it, you just like having me around."
"I will admit that it is... acceptable..." Enid beamed a dopey smile. "...even though your fashion choices are a war crime" Wednesday teased.
Enid gasped "You take that back!"
Wednesday smirked. "No, no I don't think I will."
"It is not a war crime!" Enid protested.
"On the contrary, it is very much a war crime, like napalm"
Enid's phone lit up, and the colourful girl typed furiously. Wednesday watched on with masked amusement at Enid sticking her tongue out the corner of her mouth as she concentrated.
"Aha!" Enid cried out with triumph, thrusting the phone under Wednesday's nose "See not a war crime!" Enid said smugly.
Wednesday read the sentence that Enid had highlighted.
International law does not specifically prohibit the use of napalm or other incendiaries against military targets,[41] but use against civilian populations was banned by the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapon (CCW) in 1980.
"Just as I said, it's a War crime, it states here that Napalm use is banned against civilians. I am a civilian am I not?" Wednesday asked triumphantly, Enid snatched her phone back and reread the section she had highlighted.
Enid huffed defiantly. "Not a war crime" she mumbled.
"My eyes would beg to differ" Wednesday retorted.
Enid stared at her for a moment "I hate you."
If Wednesday was anyone else she would have laughed with mirth at the perturbed look on Enid's face but she snorted instead.
"Flirting and flattery will get you nowhere Sinclair" Wednesday said, giving Enid an odd look she couldn't figure out.
Enid's face morphed into one of mischievousness "I love you so much Wednesday, how will I ever endear to show you it to be so" Enid said dramatically, with an over-dramatic sigh, a hand swept above her head in a swoon.
"Truly terrifying" Wednesday said tonelessly, she tried best to ignore the way that even a false declaration made in a clear jest made her heart stop for a moment, her heart yearned for it to be true, but a creature of light and warmth could never love one that malingered in a malevolent darkness.
Enid giggled and swept her hair back. The light caught her scars and Wednesday almost choked on her next intake of breath. She was truly radiant, battle-scared, victorious and triumphant. For Wednesday it was not merely a fight to protect her, but one for her heart as well. The moment the Wolf had collided with Tyler on that bloodmoon night, Wednesday knew her heart would never love another.
In hindsight, Wednesday figured out even in the handful of times Enid and Tyler met that Enid instantly saw him as a rival. Whether as something more than just a friend she simply couldn't figure out or risk. The rejection would kill her, in the literal sense. So she was content to worship Enid from her corner of the dark. To watch from afar as Enid bloomed and blossomed into a creature and person far superior to any other. No other was worth the adoration, the love or devotion that she would bestow upon Enid Sinclair.
She would go to war for Enid Sinclair.
She would die for Enid Sinclair.
Even such a simple thing as Enid humming to herself as she scrolled on her phone, just as she was doing now, was enough to set her body on fire with longing. Such a simple action was enough to reduce her to an ache of splendour.
It was the most delicious suffering she had ever been apart of.
She had truly realised when she reached the manor and settled back into her room, only then did the truth of her predicament sink in. All because of a single text.
Howdy roomie! Xavier gave me your number, you have a phone and didn't tell me?! Payback's gonna be a bitch you know! I have only been back in San Fran for like 30 mins and mom's already gone ballistic over my scars, saying "Oh how you will find a mate now that you've been disfigured!" Yeah, Great, thanks mom, nice to see you too... Oh how great it is to be home!
I miss you. Like already, I miss Thing and I miss the dorm, I miss the typewriter. I even miss your morbid humour.
I just miss you.
I'm sorry I know you don't do emotions and all that 'horrifying' stuff but you I feel like you understand y'know?
I know you probs wont even see this but Idk I guess it helps me to feel less alone?
You still need to come visit me in San Fran bt dubs! I promised you rain and fog and lo and behold I was right! You may call me Prophet Enid from now on ;)
Anyways I best start unpacking, if I don't see you sooner i'll see you in the new semester!
Bye bestie! 3 xoxo
Going from feeling so little to so much was too much for the eldest Addams. Drops of moisture splattered into the phone in her grasp. Silent tears fled down her face towards the object of her sorrow, her mother hated her scars? Her marks of victory and triumph? How dare she! Wednesday slide down the back of her door to the floor. Staring at the text that Enid had sent.
I just miss you.
And in the loneliness and darkness of her room.
Wednesday Addams silently sobbed her black heart out for Enid Sinclair.
Needless to say when the Eldest Addams turned up unannounced on Enid's doorstep two nights later, drenched in rain, Enid wanted to howl at the moon in unrestrained joy and mirth. She dragged her inside the house with little to no protest from her mother. The Addams Family had a reputation not for nothing after all.
Enid's room was far too colourful, unorganized and cluttered. But as Enid paraded around the room, humming with a skip in her step Wednesday found she couldn't care less at the nuclear bomb of colour she was being assaulted with.
"I didn't expect you to come Wends, especially without telling me first!" Enid chastised cheerily. "But I'm glad you did" Enid said, quieter.
"Your mother belittled you and your marks of victory. I came to ensure she did not do so again" Wednesday proclaimed, folding her arms.
"Mark of..." She began, she lifted her hand up to her face, lightly touching the three marks that adorned her face "...you mean my scars?"
"Yes. They are proof that the wolf exists in you, that it is fierce, indomitable and powerful. How could they not be marks of victory?" Wednesday asked as she moved closer to the wolf.
"They make me look horrible" Enid muttered sadly, turning away. But Wednesday would not relent and firmly grabbed her wrists to prevent her from doing so, forcing her to look at Wednesday's unwavering gaze.
"Anyone who doesn't appreciate their splendour is not worthy of you" Wednesday said passionately.
"Ajax doesn't like them" Enid muttered.
Wednesday's gaze was sharp. "Then he is first on my list" She declared starting to move.
"No wait!" Enid called out, Wednesday paused, turning her head only to regard the wolf.
"Don't kill him... can you just... can you just hug me?" Enid asked begged quietly.
Wednesday moved forwards with an arched eyebrow.
"You know that..." She began.
"...that you're not a hugger? I got that memo" Enid said with a sad smile. But she gasped when she felt Wednesday press herself into Enid and wrap her arms around her tightly. In her shock her arms did not move.
"You're wasting what precious time you have, Sinclair" Wednesday snarked over her right shoulder, Enid's arms came up blindingly fast to pull Wednesday in further, their bodies flush together, Enid closed her eyes contentedly
"Tell anyone and they'll never find your body" Wednesday threatened with a hiss. Enid giggled in her ear. To say it sent a shiver coursing through her was an understatement.
"As if anyone would believe me Wends." Enid retorted.
Wednesday didn't respond. She spent this time to map out every part of Enid she could feel, the softness of her touch, the rising and falling of her chest, the toned muscle she could feel around Enid's upper back, it dulled the ache she felt in her heart just a little. But it flared back up remembering that Enid's heart belonged to another, but in moments like these she could steal what little of Enid she could and selfishly lock it inside her starving heart, the morsels barely enough to sate her hunger for Enid.
Wednesday was brought back into reality, her musings having made her run on autopilot. Unbeknownst to either of them Wednesday's lack of attention in that singular moment would change everything, adding too much of an ingredient into the mixture, polluting the effects. Her thoughts having been focused on Enid.
Wednesday stood up abruptly.
"There is an ingredient I forgot to procure. I'll be back soon" Wednesday declared, grabbing her black overcoat as she made her way to the dorm door.
"Yeah sure, no worries" Enid said, as she settled back down onto her bed. Wednesday spared a final glance as Enid was already absorbed in her phone, her nails tapping away at the screen with not a care in the world.
The door closed softly.
Wednesday made her way down to greenhouse XII. The lack of security here was pitiful as it was amusing as Wednesday picked the lock, the heavy padlock keeping the door closed fell to the floor with a heavy clutter. Wednesday leisurely strode in and began to look around the greenhouse with predator like precision.
Years of spending time in her mothers greenhouse had made her an expert in magical and non-magical plants alike. Thornhill's extensive collection paled in comparison, although for a normie Wednesday begrudgingly admitted it was an impressive array, even for a school.
There was a variant of Burdock that released poison gas whilst under attack that she needed, she took a knife from her boot and started to cut. The plant instantly began to release the gas into the greenhouse. She smirked in amusement, she routinely poisoned herself for fun, the Burdock would be no different.
With her prize secure she left as quickly as she appeared, a shadow vanishing into the dark. All in all it took her twenty minutes to move down the school's hallways, into the grounds and to claim her spoils. And it took another ten to sneak her way past several offices that no doubt hosted teachers as they completed their evening tasks.
She moved her way to the familiar door with a feeling of comfort. A feeling of home. She pushed the door open to a sight that was different to the one that she had left not half an hour ago.
She pushed open the door to find Enid exactly where she left her except when Enid looked up at her, her eyes were rimmed red, with mascara and with what was clearly tear marks running down her face.
Some traitorous part of her mind, likely the one that made her like her father, echoed a singular thought.
'Even upset she's still captivating'
Wednesday took a step forwards towards Enid, her expression one of murderous intent.
"Who do I need to eviscerate with my bare hands? I want names." Wednesday said seething.
It was only then that did Wednesday notice that Enid had colouring pencils strewn all over the bed and a colouring book in front of her, a book of patterns although Enid coloured most nights. Enid glanced back down to the book, her hands covered by her sleeves. The voice that came from Enid broke her in way she couldn't ever describe.
"Ajax broke up with me, over text" Came the raspy, depressed reply.
There was a roar of triumph in the back of Wednesday's mind, the heart jolted in hope, but she ignored it. Enid's honour needed to be avenged.
"Thing." Wednesday said.
The hand in question had been holding one of Enid's hands with comfort in her absence. He gave a wiggle of her fingers to show he heard her.
"Get the sledgehammer. We have the testicles of a gorgon to crush" Wednesday said. Thing, who loved Enid dearly as a best friend, was more than happy to oblige, he saluted and made to flop off the bed until Enid's voice rang out.
"Please don't, Wends... please don't" Enid begged.
Wednesday wanted to growl "And why not? He has dishonoured you by not having the balls to face you when he broke your heart, so I shall remove them, since he clearly doesn't need them"
"Because you'll get expelled... and I couldnt bear it... if you went away" Enid rasped out. Her throat scratchy from crying. Wednesday knew if she had been here when Enid had been in such a heartbroken state, no force on Heaven, Earth or Hell would have stopped her from making the deplorable gorgon from suffering tenfold at her hands.
So Wednesday steeled her jaw and allowed her anger to simmer as much as she could. She always found new limits and heights for Enid, this was no different.
"What do you need?" Wednesday managed to say.
"Can you just stay with me... please? I'd rather not be alone right now, both of you?" She added as an afterthought.
"Of course" Wednesday said immediately, Enid picked up Thing and hugged him to her chest, Wednesday felt a wave of jealously send prickly fire through her body, this was unbecoming, she was jealous of a hand!
Despite everything Enid looked Wednesday in the eyes as she spoke "Can you finish.. finish your spell, I want to see what happens." Enid said, managing to give Wednesday a small disarming smile.
Wednesday discreetly swallowed thickly. "If that is what you wish" Wednesday said procuring the Burdock from within her overcoat.
"It is." She confirmed.
Wednesday settled down in her previous spot as Enid shifted to lie down with her face facing towards Wednesday, so that they were opposite.
"Where did you get that from anyway?" Enid asked, her attention rapt on Wednesday.
"Greenhouse Twelve" she said "It was laughable to break in, its a magical variant of Burdock, and just the catalyst I needed" she said as she began to crush both stem and leaf.
Enid watched on in rapt silence.
"Why does it interest you so much?" Wednesday couldn't help but ask.
"Because seeing two of you is going to be totally balls to the wall insane!" Enid giggled, her previous mood temporarily forgotten. She sat up and swung her legs round to linger on the edge of the bed as she watched.
"The concoction is prepared." Wednesday declared satisfied. She held up a box of matches. "All there is left to do is light it"
Enid's face broke out in a giddy grin "Well light it then!" Enid said excitedly, kicking her feet.
Wednesday did exactly that, their eyes met as she struck the box, the match was lit and Wednesday dropped it in. The mixture began to burn Immediately, pink smoke arose from the fire. And then it began to sputter, making the bowl shake.
"Uh Wednesday... is it supposed to be doing that" Enid managed to get out before she was struck by a jet of pink light. Wednesday was helpless as Enid was tossed from her bed into her pile of plushies and stuffed animals.
"Enid!" Wednesday shouted, she instantly sprung to her feet and dashed forwards to Enid, whose head was covered in teddy bear.
She threw all manner of plushie, teddy bear and even Thing by accident in her haste to check on the blonde. But when she saw Enid's face she was shocked to find the blonde wheezing with laughter, holding her stomach as she tried to breathe, Wednesday stared for a moment before throwing the plushie down onto her head again before moodily moving away, although out of view of either Thing or Enid she smiled momentarily, mostly at Enid laughing herself stupid. She pivoted on her heel at their invisible line as she heard Enid scramble to her feet. She schooled her expression as she faced the blonde.
"That was fun!" Enid giggled.
"That was dangerous" Wednesday replied, her harms folded.
"True" Enid calmed herself down "I'm not gonna split in two am I?" Enid asked suddenly, realising the Implications of what just happened.
Wednesday allowed herself to briefly imagine Two Enids. She didn't know what was more horrifying. The fact there would be two bubbly, bubblegum sunshine Enids or the fact she didn't mind the though of there being two of them. Desire briefly pooled towards the bottom of her stomach, but the feeling vanished as soon as it came, Enid had been dumped not more than thirty minutes ago, it was quickly replaced by guilt for merely thinking about her in that way. Enid deserved better than that.
"As fascinating that would be, I do not believe so, I think the spell was rendered impotent, the jet of light was merely the magic sparking in rejection."
"Are you sure?" Enid insisted.
Wednesday stepped closer. "Enid, If I believed you to be in any danger I would tell you, calm yourself"
Enid took a deep breathe, nodded a few times and smiled.
Wednesday lifted her arm, as if to touch Enid on the arm but thought better of it and moved deeper into her side of the room. She was unaware of Enid watching her to the moment she fell asleep. Although she heard Enid's small heartbreaking sobs, her heart yearned to go over to her, to comfort her.
A gorgon was due an appointment with her sledgehammer.
She stayed awake in solidarity with Enid until she was sure the colourful girl had fallen asleep.
Her last thoughts before sleep took was why couldn't she be the friend that Enid needed.
LINE BREAK.
The first thing Wednesday noticed the moment she woke up the next morning was the muttering.
"Quiet, you'll wake her" the voice muttered.
"I can't help it, she's so pretty!" another voice said happily.
Weird. Both voices sounded very similar to each other.
"Can you please not argue? I.. don't like arguing." Another voice muttered, despondently.
"Do you need a hug?!" Another voice called out excitedly.
"Sure... I guess" the sad voice replied, there was a shuffling of feet and the sound of weight on bedsprings.
"Who hurt you? I'll kill them" a more aggressive version of the same voice called out. The unsheathing of claws audible.
"Our mother... Ajax... take your pick"
The aggressive voice growled in response.
As the fog of sleep cleared from Wednesday's brain she realised something either Enid was talking to herself because had gone insane was plausible. But decent into madness was much slower than this. Wednesday bolted up from her bed to see a sight that she was neither awake enough to process.
There were seven Enids dotted around their room. All in the middle of various activities.
Wednesday blinked to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.
"Morning Roomie!" Every voice called out. Wednesday blinked again, this was too much, the only voice that didn't call out was the Enid sat on the other bed, instead she gave Wednesday a small sad smile and wave before turning her attention back to the colouring books strewn on the bed.
"You said last night that the spell wouldn't do anything! You said Wednesday!" the aggressive Enid said advancing towards Wednesday.
"Don't mind her!" The Enid that hadn't stopped smiling spoke up pushing past aggressive Enid "How are you? How did you sleep? Did you have good dreams? Do you want some breakfast, maybe some coffee?" the Smiling Enid rambled so fast that Wednesday could barely keep up.
The aggressive Enid had placed herself between the Happy Enid and Wednesday "Back-Off!" She warned.
Happy Enid looked startled for a moment before her smile returned and she took a step back. "Right boundaries, I almost forgot" Flashing a beaming smile towards Wednesday.
Wednesday looked to her right to see another Enid, who had been watching her silently the entire time, a dopey, dreamy smile on her face. Although if she had been anyone else she would have found it slightly uncomfortable.
This Enid finally managed to speak up "Hi..." She said shyly. Wednesday noticed the blush across the bridge of her nose but she didn't turn away and continued to stare in complete adoration. "You're so pretty" She blurted out, looking shocked at her own admission.
Wednesday confusedly blinked back at her before throwing the covers over her the bed and sliding out of the bed.
There was a gasp from an Enid that had a Enid's cowboy hat on.
"Well Howdy there, roomie" Enid said sultrily "You look positively..." This Enid looked her up and down hungrily. "...ghastly this morning" She said letting her hand trail down her arm sensually.
"Flattery will get you nowhere Sinclair" Wednesday said, echoing herself from the previous night.
"Oh I don't know about that..." Cowgirl Enid said seductively. "...you are blushing pretty hard bt dubs"
To Wednesday's horror she actually was.
"Okay cowgirl, can you see that she's not comfortable" the aggressive Enid said moving towards her and inserting her own body between Wednesday and Cowgirl Enid.
Cowgirl Enid looked defeated for a moment and bit her lip apprehensively. "Are you not?" She asked Wednesday.
Wednesday did nothing but stare back in response, unsure how she felt.
Cowgirl Enid took a deep breath and stepped away from Wednesday's personal space. "I'm sorry. I think... I'm going to go take a cold shower." She declared. Happy Enid skipped over to Cowgirl Enid and gave her a fluffy pink towel.
"I'll see you later, roomie!" Cowgirl Enid teased, winking at her.
The Enid on the bed watched the interaction quietly, her muted and dull eyes watched with longing, she sighed and picked up the red pencil and began to colour again, trying to ignore the yearning that she was constantly drowning in.
Wednesday let out a relieved breath as Cowgirl Enid left the room. Something obvious occurred to her and she nearly slapped herself in her ire.
"Why have none of you questioned why there is seven of you?" Wednesday asked incredulously.
"Of course we did, silly" Happy Enid said with a giggle. "We quickly realised it was the spell from last night"
"And there isn't just seven of us, there's us six, the one that just left, and two more who went for a run." Aggressive Enid said coming to stand by Wednesday's side.
At that moment another Enid came out of the small shared walk in closet in the dorm.
"Is this too much?" Enid asked the room, twirling round, the skirt flowing as she did so.
"You look amazing, it says 'look out bitches and hoes' I have arrived" Happy Enid declared gleefully.
"You look adorbs!" One Enid said, coming up to hug the dressed up Enid. Both Enid's giggled into the hug.
"We're gonna make Ajax totes jealous that he dumped us last night!" Aggressive Enid said with a grin.
"Because damn we're fucking hot!" The Enid wearing the skirt said excitedly.
"Hell yeah we are" Happy Enid said, high-fiving the former.
Wednesday watched the interaction between the different Enids. And noticed something... peculiar.
They were all certainly Enid, even though there were multiple versions of her. Each one seemed to be dominated by a singular trait or emotion that when Enid was a whole person would exhibit.
She walked over to her desk and opened up the top drawer grabbing a pen that looked like a quill and a black notepad and began to look at each Enid in turn and jotted down from her observations of what Each Enid seemed to be.
Happy Enid.
Sad Enid. Wednesday looked up to see that particular Enid in question still on the bed. But with a stuffed plushie clutched in her arms, staring blankly at the wall. Dried tear stains on her cheeks that ran the full length of her face.
That detestable gorgon would feel the fury of her wrath once all this was over, Wednesday vowed it on her life. She watched as another Enid immediately broke away from the main group, clambered onto the bed and cuddled the mute girl to her carefully. Wrapping her arms round her fully.
She looked down to her list again. And made annotated notes
Happy Enid – Can't stop smiling.
Sad Enid.
Compassionate Enid – Hugs everyone.
Aggressive Enid – Protective and confrontational.
Cowgirl Enid – Sexually Promiscuous, possibly homosexual? Bi-sexual?
Fashionable Enid – Continues to make fashion a War Crime.
Wednesday slowly turned to look at the Enid who still sat some distance away. The moment she realised the goth's eyes were on her, she straightened up.
"Has anyone ever told you that you look cute af with bed hair." Enid blurted out. Wednesday's eyes widened before tuning to jot something new down.
Happy Enid – Can't stop smiling.
Sad Enid.
Compassionate Enid – Hugs everyone.
Aggressive Enid – Protective and confrontational.
Cowgirl Enid – Sexually Promiscuous, possibly homosexual? Bi-sexual?
Fashionable Enid – Continues to make fashion a War Crime.
Delusional/Drugged Enid ?
There were still two Enids that she hadn't seen yet.
But it was that moment those two chose to walk through the door.
One was wearing Enid's running gear, earphones in both ears, jogging shorts and a racerback sports bra. Wednesday wanted to avert her eyes, her toned muscles gleaming in the light that was pouring into the room.
"Hey guys!" She called out.
A chorus of "Hey!" came from the Enids dotted around the room.
But the other Enid sniffed the air around her, Wednesday's eyes met hers and this other Enid broke out into a grin and sprinted towards Wednesday who took a hesitant step back. This other Enid collided with her and began to nuzzle and rub herself against Wednesday's shoulder affectionately.
She began to jot down on the paper what she knew this Enid to be.
Happy Enid – Can't stop smiling.
Sad Enid.
Compassionate Enid – Hugs everyone.
Aggressive Enid – Protective and confrontational.
Cowgirl Enid – Sexually Promiscuous, possibly homosexual? Bi-sexual?
Fashionable Enid – Continues to make fashion a War Crime.
Delusional/Drugged Enid ?
Sport Enid
Wolf Enid – curiously not in werewolf form?
"Hey no fair!" Compassionate Enid called out, as she watched Wolf Enid nuzzle into Wednesday contentedly.
"Hey don't complain" Sports Enid said. "She was whining during the entire run, I had to stop her chasing three squirrels, it was a nightmare"
"I wanted to hug Wends though" Compassionate Enid complained, her arms still around the mute Enid on the bed.
Wednesday looked down to Wolf Enid, she was used to this side of her room-mate, although she was usually in wolf form when she behaved like this. Enid's chest rumbled happily as her chest rose and fell. Werewolves didn't typically purr but Enid was always an exception.
"Enid" Wednesday whispered to the Wolf. The girl's ear perked up immediately and she let out an exaggerated puppy yawn as tired blue eyes stared up at her. "I know you are tired, do you wish to take a nap on my bed?" Wolf Enid's eyes softened impossibly so and slowly the wolf-girl nodded. Wednesday carefully led the Wolf-girl over to her bed and led her down, she immediately curled up happily in the still warm sheets that was full of her mate's scent.
Wednesday stared down at the wolf-girl curiously, in any other circumstance, this would be a golden opportunity to study wolf behaviour in a unique context as Wolf traits sometimes dictated the behaviour of their human selves. Enid growling in her sleep happened to be one of them. She needed to get Enid back as a whole person, and for that she needed some peace and quiet.
"Enids" Wednesday called.
She was instantly met with a chorus of "Yes, Wends?" as multiple pairs of blue eyes stared back at her. Cowgirl Enid had returned, fresh from her shower. And was now staring at Wednesday with a knowing smirk, their eyes met and Cowgirl Enid winked at her non-discreetly, adding the sound of a kiss with it. Aggressive Enid slapped her on the arm hard.
"Follow me" She ordered and they made to do so. Shuffling behind her, talking animatedly. Thankfully the Vampire was merely down the hall as she knocked on her door. Wednesday was curious to see Yoko's expression. The door opened to reveal Yoko still in her dressing gown and looking unimpressed, until she saw the gaggle of Enid's behind her.
"Yoko! Guys its Yoko!" Happy Enid called out, there was a jubilant cry of cheers from the Enids.
"Addams what the fuck did you do?" Yoko gasped in shock, looking at the Enids behind her as they beamed at her.
"No time to explain, but I messed up a spell and this was the result, I need some quiet in order to make sure this is reversible."
"Yeah but..." Yoko began before removing her sunglasses rubbing at her eyes tiredly. "...All right fine but damn Addams you seriously owe me one!" Yoko threatened.
Wednesday looked back to the gaggle of Enids and felt a sliver of empathy for the Vampire. She stepped aside as the gander of Enids filtered into the room, Compassionate Enid stopped to give Yoko a hug that nearly crushed the Vampire, which would have been a considerable feat considering her vampiric nature.
And when Divinia happened to walk in not ten minutes later after Yoko sent out an SOS to her, she screamed as she was bum-rushed by a flock of Enids, with Yoko struggling to breathe to Divinia was nearly crushed by the ensemble.
But now as Wednesday walked away, the cacophony of noise that the Enids created died down surprisingly quickly until she was left with an odd silent that seemed wrong however she counted her blessings as she made her way to the room door, she would consult the Tomes or conduct a seance to get to the source of the solution, whatever it took.
But as she re-entered the room she realised one of two things.
Wolf Enid was now awake and darted forwards the moment the door closed gently, colliding with Wednesday making the girl grunt with the force of the collision. Wolf Enid was whimpering and was letting out small, short breathed whines as she endeavoured to rub her head against her.
The message was clear.
You left and I didn't know where you went.
Wednesday knew that Enid during the full moon's was clingy. Almost obsessively so but it was tempered by the fact that in wolf form Enid still had her mind when transformed. Wolf psychologists had spent decades trying to figure out how the two states of mind melded together, the human and the animal. It was difficult due to how they only transformed three times out of the month and most Werewolves were reluctant to be studied. For obvious reasons.
But to Wednesday she knew that this Enid was almost all wolf. Almost.
"Shhhh it's okay, my wolf" Wednesday whispered, using the same tone she would on those full moons when she would accompany Enid. When she had gone to collect Enid in the morning the guardian of the cages had said he had never seen a Wolf in such a horrendous state of longing and
depression. Her emotions that much more primal and uncomplicated as wolf. And so the next night when she had took Enid down to the cages, she slipped through the gate of the cage before it could be closed.
"Wednesday are you fucking nuts!?" Enid exclaimed, wide eyed. Wednesday ignored her as she secured the heavy duty padlocks. Shrugging off her coat as she finished doing so, leaving her in an oversized hoodie and black and white striped shirt.
"I refuse to leave you alone in here Enid"
The Moon had now fully risen, it would only be a matter of time as Enid's cells were being bathed in moonlight. She glanced up at the Moon before looking back at Wednesday.
"Wends you need to get out" Enid said desperately. "We're put in cages for a reason!" Enid begged. But Wednesday would do no such thing, she would never abandon or neglect Enid again.
"You didn't attack me when you saved me from the Hyde, and I don't believe you will now" Wednesday strode forwards with purpose, until she was a breath away from the girl that had her heart forever.
"Please Wends... please go" Enid pleaded.
"No, I refuse to leave you to be alone." Wednesday argued back. "I refuse."
Enid looked at her with an expression of warmth and awe. Until Enid started to cry.
"You'll die because of me!" Enid cried out.
"It takes more than that to kill an Addams, dear roommate." Wednesday assured.
Enid chuckled despite the tears, Enid suddenly hunched over, organs began to shift and morph. Enid gave her a final pleading look. Wednesday responded with a stout look of refusal but the pain was too much and Enid fell to the floor, Wednesday mirrored her and reached out tentatively to lay a hand on Enid's back as she screamed in horrendous agony. She pulled her own body closer, until her arms came to encircle the transforming Wolf.
"As long as I breathe you will never be alone again Enid" Wednesday said gently.
Enid's head shot up, glowing yellow eyes looked at her with despair before they clasped shut again, as bones began to crack and shift. Her skin rippled and ripped as fur began to rapidly cover the entirety of her body. Wednesday had to stifle the urge to wince as she heard Enid's jaw dislocate as a snout grew before her. Her teeth sharpened, two fangs growing absurdly long.
Wednesday reluctantly stepped back to give the Wolf room to complete its transformation, she felt herself fall in love deeper than she ever thought possible as an animal of pure savagery raised its head and howled with thunderous might towards the moon that it was contained too.
"My wolf..." Wednesday couldn't help but say, her eyes transfixed upon Enid "...you are glorious" IN that moment Wednesday understood why some had chosen to once worship the Werewolf.
Upon hearing Wednesday's voice the wolf snapped its head down towards her, she towered above the Goth who showed no fear towards such a queen of the hunt. The wolf shifted to stand on four legs, lowering her enough to wander over to Wednesday. Wednesday stood perfect still as the Wolf reached her, sniffing her, the snout of the wolf moving over her body, from underneath her jaw, from one side of her chest to the other before pushing its head into her breasts in a nudge. Wednesday exhaled sharply, the strength of the wolf knocking the wind out of her momentarily.
Feral yellow eyes began to fade until nothing but a bright pale blue remained.
"Your wolf is magnificent" Wednesday could not help but utter with anything other than total reverence. Enid whined pitifully and pushed her head into Wednesday's chest again, the goth reached up to wrap her arms around the Wolf as she held her more gently than she had any other living creature in years. The heat that radiated from the wolf was searing but it was tempered against the late September chill.
The Wolf suddenly did something unexpected and placed her front paws on Wednesday's shoulders, the Wolf's massive weight forced Wednesday to the floor in a mess. "Enid!" Wednesday cried out as she was pushed to the floor. The Wolf whimpered sadly in resposne, pushing her snout into Wednesday again.
"I am unharmed" Wednesday said but the Wolf would not relent, hastening to check over the mate the moon had chosen for her. Wednesday huffed gently before grabbing Enid's face on either side with her hands, forcing the wolf to look at her.
"I am okay" Wednesday reassured softly. The Wolf snorted, the exhale causing Wednesday's bangs and hair to flop around. The wolf moved until her body covered Wednesday's, before laying herself gently to the floor.
"Even in Wolf form you still want to Cuddle?" Wednesday asked incredulously.
The wolf's response was to curl around Wednesday until her body was surrounded by nothing but wolf.
"You are incorrigible and insufferable." Wednesday accused half-heartedly. But the Wolf began to pant and her chest began to rumble happily. The chill of the night no longer mattered as Enid shared her body heat with her. Wednesday shifted herself until her head was directly under Enid's chin, tucking herself into her neck. Enid whined with content as she felt her mate get more comfortable in her embrace.
She had to keep her mate safe, she had to keep her mate warm. Wednesday reached out with shaking hand and placed down it palm down atop Enid's right paw. She lay her head against Enid's chest, her heart yearned painfully for Enid, she had fallen in love with not just Enid the human but Enid the wolf as well, and now they occupied the same spot in her heart, right next to families and next to Nero's.
She pressed herself deeper into Enid and closed her eyes and let sleep claim her, the Wolf's breathing and rumbling leading her to a peaceful slumber. The Morning came too soon, the Wolf's power and form began to wane with the rising of the sun, as it crested the horizon, Enid began to shrink until she was the blonde girl that everyone knew and loved.
Thing skittered through the bars easily, dragging a blanket over Enid's nude body and subsequently Wednesday's who still slept, being spooned by the taller, naked girl. She awoke first to feel Enid nude behind her and it felt so preciously intimate, Enid still rested her chin above her head, their bodies and arms had shifted in the night until Enid was clasping both her hands with both of her own, Wednesday had clasped both of them to her chest.
Any other person would have lost their fingers long before this.
But this was Enid.
And only Enid was afforded such a privilege.
Once Enid was awake there was panic, stuttering and a deliciously red face of embarrassment as Enid hastened to dress herself whilst Wednesday kept her eyes shut out of respect for Enid.
"Oh my god, Wednesday, I'm so sorry!" Enid had said for the tenth time. Wednesday, fed up with Enid blaming herself, took Enid's face between her hands, much the same way she had the wolf the night previous and peered into the girls eyes.
"Sinclair. Stop." Wednesday said firmly. "I plan to be with you every full moon, there is no need for this self destructive rhetoric" Enid nodded frantically. "Waking up with you pressed into me... doesn't bother me... because it is you." Wednesday managed to grit out. "Do you understand?"
"I mean kind of?" Enid said unsure.
"You have my complete trust, now come, I heard that transforming renders a werewolf incredibly hungry." Wednesday said starting to move towards the school, Enid starred after her for a second before hastening to catch up to her..
But now Wednesday was drawn out of her state of thought as she took Wolf Enid over to the bed and letting the Wolf girl flop back down, comforted by the scent of Wednesday as she drifted to sleep once more.
"She was like that the entire time you were gone" A voice said. Wednesday's head shot up to see another Enid, the one that had been sat on the bed, with her legs drawn up to her chest, her head resting upon them. Colouring pencils still strewn around her, abandoned.
Wednesday left the bed and wandered over to the brighter side of the room.
"I had spent so long trying to connect with the wolf side of me." This Enid said forlornly. Wednesday realised why this Enid unsettled her, her hair wasn't blonde.
It was brown.
"Your hair..." Wednesday uttered before she could stop herself.
Enid smiled sadly at Wednesday.
"Shocking isn't it?" Enid said with a sigh.
"Shocking? No. Unexpected? Yes" Wednesday confirmed.
Enid chuckled, the smile not reaching her eyes.
"Those other Enids, they aren't me." She said.
"No but you aren't them either." Wednesday said. "You are all part of a whole person"
"And yet I remember everything, I know everything she does, except I can't feel it. All I can feel is this" Enid said, her eyes glistening.
Wednesday frowned and came to gently sit upon the bed.
"What is it you feel, Enid?" Wednesday asked.
Enid regarded her for a moment before answering.
"Loneliness." She replied with a whisper. "A crushing weight that I can't rid myself off"
Wednesday moved closer until they were merely inches from the other.
"The truth is Wednesday... I..." Enid began.
Wednesday moved closer and a little too fast because Enid flinched at the sudden movement, Enid had never flinched from her before. Her blood ran cold with icy fury because usually the only time when someone flinched at sudden movement was because someone had hurt them. Repeatedly.
She would kill them.
But she crushed the rage beneath her.
But she offered a silent hand in support to the other girl, who took her hand gratefully, lacing their fingers together.
"Truth is..." Enid said shakily, until she looked into Wednesday's eyes, eyes that grounded her, eyes that that were the softest they had ever been for anyone other than her own family. Wednesday had opened herself emotionally to whether it was consciously or not
"Enid" Wednesday said carefully. "Whatever it is, whatever you wish to tell me, you won't suffer it alone... let me lift that weight from you" Wednesday said softly, her gaze wandered over Enid, the denim overalls and the plaid clothing were so not Enid and yet it complimented her in a way Wednesday didn't think was possible.
"...I'm terrified." Enid finally was able to gasp out, Wednesday felt her heart harden into steel. Whoever had made such an enrapturing creature like Enid shed tears would suffer tenfold.
"Of what?" Wednesday implored, Enid was so close to revealing the truth of whatever it was.
"...of being cast out of my family, I'm terrified of everyone leaving me" Enid whispered, her voice stricken with tears. Enid fixed her with an intense gaze that was burning to be under.
"...and I won't survive losing you..." Enid confessed. The confession hit Wednesday like a freight train but the momentum kept on coming as Enid found herself unable to stop herself as she spilled every dark fear.
"...It's why I spend so much time here with you now because I hope that the memories will be enough to keep me going." Enid said, smiling sadly.
"THAT will never happen." Wednesday growled out.
"Don't promise me that Wends..." Enid begged. "Please don't..." She said again, draw her knees to her chest protectively.
"An Addams doesn't take an oath such as this lightly, Enid" Wednesday said firmly. She scooted closer in a move she hope was comforting to the wolf.
"Why though?" Enid asked confusedly. "Why me? I'm not worth that..." Wednesday surged forwards taking Enid by surprise as she took the tear stricken girl's face between her colder hands.
"Because you saved me from the Hyde, because you accepted me when no-one else would. When I would threaten anyone who came near me with death and decay but you... you my dreadfully colourful roommate slipped past every boundary I ever set and nestled yourself like a fungus..." She slipped down her hands until she was holding both of Enid's in her own. "...Right here." she whispered, bringing their joined hears to her chest, settling them over her heart. Enid whimpered as she did so.
"Do you feel it? It beats because of you Enid. It beats because you made it so" Wednesday whispered, as Enid's face was stricken with tears, her lip quivering and trembling as she shed her sorrow. Wednesday shuffled closer. "Don't be sad, mi sol" Wednesday couldn't help but utter, taking Enid's face between her hands again.
"You put your life on the line before you knew you could even transform... how can Addams do anything but honour such devotion." Wednesday said, with sheer reverence for Enid. "You'll have me. Until every last star in the galaxy dies. You will have me" Wednesday promised.
Enid gave her a look of utter defeat, she began to slip out of her grasp and pulled further out of her reach.
"Your only saying this because you feel like you owe me... you don't have to-"
"No" Wednesday said firmly. "It isn't." she sighed already knowing the question that Enid would ask. Enid watched her carefully, with limitless patience. Wednesday made eye contact.
"It was when I finally got to be alone. And for the first time in my life, I didn't enjoy it." Wednesday said. "It was when I realised you had become the most important thing in my life and I would do anything to keep it safe but you were gone and it was too late, I had lost you when I had only just found you."
"I heard you that night, I heard the cello, after the rain stopped" Enid confessed. "It made me want to come back..."
"On the nature of daylight. By Max Richter. I was lamenting all that I had lost. Nero and you" Wednesday whispered.
"It was beautiful and it made me cry hearing it." Enid said. "I was just as upset as you Wends." she frowned "But there were two instruments playing...?"
"Thing" Wednesday supplied simply.
Wednesday sighed and stepped back. "I need to obtain something from the Library, will you be okay?"
Enid wiped at the tears and snot that accumulated upon her face "Yeah..." She said shakily.
"I will be back soon" Wednesday promised before striding towards the door of their room, Enid watched her go with longing and an ache in her chest. Their eyes meeting a final time before Wednesday let the door closer quieter than normal. The Moment the door had clicked shut Enid chose to lay on her side and watch the door with an intense stare, only being drawn away as Wolf Enid kicked her feet out in her sleep.
On the other side, Wednesday silently pressed her forehead to the door. The reality and truth of Enid's state of being had hit her brutally. This was the version of Enid that was riddled with insecurity, worthlessness and fear.
She would find a reversal for the perverted spell.
And she would make Enid whole again.
No matter the cost.
