Chapter 6
As they went through the cave, the shadows felt alive to the group - especially Keika. All three were on high alert. Keika looked ahead and figured the best way to make the rescue was from higher up. The body cam footage made it clear: the shadow giant thought he was the biggest bad to walk the streets of Metru Nui. So why would he bother to look up?
The shadow giant was approaching Hakdari and the university trainee. He was distracted. Keika gestured for the two Matoran to sabotage any torture that was going on. They quickly obliged as Keika made it to the ceiling of the cave.
Kapura soon found the controls and pushed a few buttons. The twelve that were magnetized to the floor soon found their legs and arms going back to their normal position, and Nuhrii helped them cool off their feet before getting their foot armor back on. They stood up and prepared to escape. Kapura gestured for Nuhrii to get the spare skate key and pick the locks on the chains. The six that had been chained were free - once the excess electricity left their systems, they were also ready to run. Finally, Kapura went out from the controls and helped Nuhrii repair the one whose limbs were almost falling off.
Meanwhile, Keika focused her energy directly to her heart, and took a few deep breaths. The shadow giant was about to grab Hakdari and drain her life-force. Hakdari tensed up, expecting the end…
… and that was when Keika went into full flash-bang! Light exploded through the cave, throwing the shadow giant onto his back. He tried to get up, but Keika took a hand off the ceiling and shot some of the light at his face, blinding him.
Nuhrii freed the university trainee and Kapura freed Hakdari.
"You two! Get the trainees and get out!" shouted Keika, her aura still illuminating the cave like the two suns at high noon. Hakdari and her older companion wasted no time in doing so. The shadow giant heard his prey escaping, but couldn't see with Keika blasting her light directly in his eyes. She then dropped from the ceiling and prepared to lead the others out.
"Let's roll!" shouted Kapura. Nuhrii would have groaned at the pun, but didn't think of that. Kapura pulled a spare set of skates and helmet from his pack, and gave them to Nuhrii. Nuhrii put them. The two Matoran skated out of the cave side-by-side.
Keika led the adult Nuurakh out of the cave at top speed. Their eyes had already adjusted to light from the flash-bang earlier. Nonetheless, Keika kept her aura up to ward off the shadow giant if he dared to follow. To her surprise and relief, he didn't.
"Last one out is Vahki bones!" shouted one of the younger ones. Keika cringed - that common playground taunt had a whole new meaning to her now. Perhaps that particular trainee was unaware that he was almost Vahki bones himself - and if he was aware, maybe it was his way of coping.
