It was 3 AM. Tommy had just woken up from a nightmare, panting fast. He learned long ago how to hold back his screams. Looking around him, he remembered where he was and saw his boyfriend lying besides him, still asleep. He had an uneasy feeling. He ran to check on the other two residents in the house: Vivian Vision (Vision's daughter, who had been staying with them since the incident at Coles Academic), who was powered down, and Martin Preston/Master Pandemonium. Tommy wanted to call all his siblings, all his cousins, every member of the Young Avengers—pretty much everyone he knew—and make sure they were okay, but doing so would set off every alarm bell in their heads, so he held back his worry, just starting to run to ease his feelings.
His gut feeling was not wrong; within only a few minutes, he became aware of someone attempting to follow him. He knew they couldn't keep up, but they were pretty damn close. He figured his best bet would be to scare them off. He ran to Greymalkin Habitat, the former site of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, which has since become the legal property of Krakoa, making it Krakoan soil. He was sure whoever was following him didn't want to start a war with the mutants, and as long as he was there, they could not attack him, or try to take him; the most they could do was ask to talk or seek asylum in the nation of Krakoa.
He was not surprised to see a former inmate turned guard from his time in the juvenile detention facility. As a way of controlling the more rowdy inmates, the guards and scientists gave several of the most cooperative inmates a small degree of control. So much so that when they were officially released, they started working there, partially because they couldn't find other work and partially because they couldn't get a grasp on life outside the facility, but this guy liked the power he was given, the job title, and the job description, but most of all, he liked the authority he was given.
He was aware of this guy's lightning powers but unaware of how fast he was. "You can't lay a hand on me here!" Tommy yelled. The guy walked forwards at a normal pace with his hands raised, showing he was not a threat at the moment, saying, "I'm not here to fight Shepherd; you're going to come back with me of your own free will. or turn yourself in at some point." Tommy looked pissed at that statement, responding, "Really? Why the hell would I ever do that?" The guy threw a phone over to Tommy, showing live footage of his house with David, Viv, and Master P, his cousins Dawn (Lorna's daughter) and Luna (Pietro's daughter) asleep in their apartment, and two more, one on each of Billy's younger brothers (Ethan and Caleb) in their own places.
Tommy realised what they had done to him. It was how they controlled most of the people in the facility, who they couldn't break; so, if they couldn't break you down inside, they'd find a way. Everybody has a weakness, regardless of what it is. These people had no ethical boundaries to speak of. He quickly hit the panic button on his phone with a message saying, 'I'm safe; get to my family.' Stalling for time, Tommy quickly went through his options and yelled, "Going after any of them is a stupid move; it means that you and your bosses have declared war on the Mutants, Inhumans, and the Kree/Skrull empire. Are you sure that's worth coming after me?"
All the Young Avengers got the alert and immediately knew something was seriously wrong. Tommy didn't often hit the panic button, choosing to deal with the problem himself or with whoever was there, but when he did, there was a reason for it. David and Billy were the only ones who knew what the message meant; both texted back, with David saying he would check on Pandemonium and Viv, as he had woken up next to a sword stabbed through the bed, and ran to Pandemonium and Viv, waking both of them up, noticing each also had a sword stabbed through their beds, and Billy texted, saying he trusted Tommy when he said he was safe, and he and Teddy would check on some of the other family members but still have whoever could go to Tommy.
Billy called his mother, Wanda, his cousins (including Ahura, son of King Black Bolt and Queen Medusa), and siblings, letting them know that someone might be after them, and he teleported Teddy to one of his brothers locations; he went to the other, with Dawn, Luna, Ethan, and Caleb all waking up to the same site, much to their horror about how close to death they were.
The other members in the area (which consisted of Hawkeye, Noh-Varr, and America) headed to him, finding him staring down a mystery man. The guy looked around at the new arrivals. "I thought you were better than this, shepherd. Have you really grown so weak that you need to rely on others to fight your battles for you? You know where to go if you decide to grow up." The guy stated this before running off.
