CH 9
Three days later Pete woke up when he heard yelling so he got up and dress then he went to find out what was going on. When he walk up onto the bridge Rick got his back to Pete as he was yelling on the sat phone then he hung up.
He turn around when Pete walk onto the bridge "rick what going on" Pete pretend to be half a sleep"
"a client cancel the hire of my barge, that all, sorry if I woke you ok"
"it ok, where are we going"
"Meet a friend of mine, he hiring my barge for a few days"
"Ok, I'll go back to bed"
"you do that, you did a double shift last night since Jerry ended up with food poisoning when he ate that spicy chicken"
"sorry about that"
"you weren't to know that his stomach couldn't handle spicy food, he will be ok in couple of days"
"ok" Pete turn around and walk off the bridge.
He return back to his bed where he got his phone out and send a text message to Nav then he deleted the sent message and turn the phone off and put it back in his spot before getting back into bed and getting some sleep.
Later that afternoon Pete was up at the wheel house when Rick stop his boat next to another boat. Pete stay in the wheel house while Rick went to talk to the guy. Pete got his phone out and took photos and record what was going on till Rick return. Pete put his phone away and return back to radar when Rick return.
"Ok lets head to Darwin"
"Ok" Pete said
When they arrived in Darwin the next morning. Pete woke up early so he got his phone and turn it on, then he check to see if he still got the photos and video footage, when he look at it he send it all to Nav, and then he sent her a text message and sent it. Then put the phone away then went to have a shower.
When he return he check his cell phone to see he got text from Nav letting him know that she received his photos so he deleted the photos and video footage that he took when he received another text message just as Rick open the door
"Pete"
"rick" Pete smile when he saw the text message
"You look happy"
"Yeah my girl friend, she wondering when I'm returning back to Cairns, she misses me"
"i bet she dose" then the phone rings again it was another text message
"she in trouble when I see her"
"Why that" Pete show Rick the message
'When you get home I'll wash you all over from head to toe and in between, I know I needed washing from head to toe and in between my self'
"Pete you got it bad" Pete laugh
"i know" Pete text to Nav while grinning then sent it.
"come on let go into town"
"why not, while I'm here a friend of mine told me about this shop that sells sexy nightwear" Rick laugh as they walk out of Pete cabin
"You going to spoil her"
"Yep, why not and it her birthday next week so I'll post it to her" Pete said smiling. They walk onto the wharf and went there separate ways.
Pete got his phone out and called Nav "Hey"
"Pete did the text messages I sent you help"
"Yes they did, your a life saver"
"Well it true" Nav said grinning
"True, how did the bucks party go?"
"I don't know, I won't know till tomorrow"
"ok Nikki when you talk to the feds tell them that this is the last time I send stuff to you"
"Why are they get suspicious?"
"Jerry is with phone calls and text messages"
"ok I under stand. Look if you cover has been compromise, tell them that you need to call me to... cancel our weekend away, Call me...Vicky, when you say that then I know that your cover has been blown"
"Good idea"
"another thing is say I was looking forward to seeing you in that blue bikini so I know you going to bright island"
"ok and how about cord ants to where Rick meeting up with the guy I'll say twelve o'clock meaning it north of bright island"
"good idea" they talk for a few more minutes before hanging up.
The next day Hammersley left Cairns for it final three week patrol before it decommission. Nav spoke to mike, Kate and Dutchy about buffer phone call and even show Mike photos and copy of the video footage since she gave the lead agent a pen drive with the info on it.
"Nav buffer done a great job"
"thanks sir, did commander Marshal give you the items that I asked for"
"Yes he did" Mike turn around and open the cupboard and pull out a bag then he turn around and pass it to Nav.
She open it and got the three items out. One was a container and the other item is a sat phone and emergency beacon "thanks sir"
"you know where to put the items"
"Yes I do" Nav said
"what in the container" Dutchy asked
"Crab toxin antidote just in case Rick Gallagher force Pete to drink the water" Nav said
"Dose he know how much time he has before it toxin takes affect"
"he dose sir"
"Ok when we get to bright island, Dutchy, ET and Swain go with you just in case"
"Yes sir"
Nav put every thing back in the bag then she step towards mike desk and pick up a pad and pen, then she put them together and put them in the bag "what that for" Mike asked
"Back up sir, Pete can write down important things just in case he can't talk or loss consciousness"
"Good idea" Once every thing is back in the bag she past it to mike whom put it back in the cupboard and lock it.
"Lets get back to the bridge"
"Yes sir" they all said. When they were walking towards the bridge
"Dutchy did you go to chefo bucks party" Dutchy grin
"Yes chefo invited me"
"And what happen" Kate asked
"You don't want to know ma'am"
"come on it can't be that bad" mike asked
"Oh yeah it was, I hope no one recorded it"
"Why what happen" Nav asked
"not saying" when they walk onto the bridge Nav and Kate walk up top look out deck to talk about different things while down on the bridge.
"sir" mike turn to Dutchy
"I didn't want to say it in front of X and Nav but the bucks night, they wouldn't be happy. Spider and ET dress up at them" Dutchy said quietly.
Mike look at Dutchy in shock "What"
"they did sir"
Dutchy got his phone out of his pocket and press couple of button then he press play to show mike what was on it. It show spider dressing up as Kate. When it shop couple minutes later. Dutchy press couple of buttons then it showed ET dressing up as Nav. When mike watch it till it stop then he pass it back to Dutchy
"i under stand why you didn't want to tell me in front of them"
"Yes sir" they heard cell phone ring and new it was Nav cell phone
"buffer must of sent her a text message" Dutchy said
"Who knows" then few minutes later the cell phone rings again.
"some thing up" Mike got up from his seat when he heard
"I'm going to kill him" they heard Nav said then they saw her walk down the steps and off the bridge then Kate did the same
"that dose it three weeks of tooth brush duties" Kate pass mike the phone before walking off the bridge.
Mike look at it "ET and spider are in a lot of trouble" Mike show Dutchy the pulse part of the video
"I don't want to be in there boots sir" mike grin when they heard
"spider" Kate said yelling
"ET" Nav said yelling
"are you going to do some thing about that sir"
"not yet"
couple minutes later Mike and Dutchy went up top deck look out when they saw spider and ET trying to get away from Nav and Kate with most of the crew behind them.
"they sure are in trouble sir"
"Yes they are"
They watch what was happening before Nav and Kate walk towards one of the door hatch. They waited till Nav and Kate walk up the steps. Mike could tell with Kate that she still angry
"Toothbrush duties? Mike said
"Yes" Kate said
"both of them" Nav said
"Nav, X you way looking better than spider and ET trying to be you two"
"Thanks Dutchy. Now we know why you didn't want to say a thing" Nav said
"what did buffer say Nav?" Mike asked
"He said he laugh and said to ask you for all those toothbrushes and said at least Hammersley would be scrub clean by time we return from our last patrol" Nav said smiling
"True" Mike said
"I text back to Pete saying now you know why I don't want my family and crew get together to plan your bucks night after what happen to chefo buck party... he agree" Nav said They talk about other things till they received a may day call.
Over two weeks later Jerry check his e-mails he saw one from an old friend from Darwin so he click onto the link and saw what it said "I knew it"
Then he close his computer down then went up to the wheel house to see Rick there "Rick we got a problem" not knowing that Pete was out side the door
"what problem"
"I received an e-mail from mate of mine. There was some thing about Pete that I didn't like or trust. Friend of mine had him check out, guest what"
"Are you saying he a fed"
"no, he bloody navy"
"what are you sure"
"Yes he is petty officer Peter Tomaszewski and you not going to believe this, he works on Hammersley"
"what" rick said in shock
"Yep, I knew he was to good to be true"
"Dam it... ok we five hours to bright island, we will use him"
"how"
"He can help us carry the bottle water on to my ship then we will get him to drink from one of the bottles then knock him out"
"Great plan what about the doctor"
"We will keep her as insurance"
"ok"
Pete turn and step away quietly to the back of the boat where he got his phone out to send a text message, when he saw that there was one bar for a signal, so he waited till there was three bars then press send. He waited till the message came up that is was sent so he deleted the message before putting the phone in his pocket.
Nav was having breakfast with Kate, swain and Dutchy when her phone rang. Kate turn to her when she got it out of her pocket "I was getting worried about buffer, since it been a week since I last heard from him" Nav said then she open the message then she pale
"Swain move, now" Swain got up and move out of the way
"Nav what is it" Kate asked Nav pass Kate the phone before she ran out of the dinning area Kate look at the message
"on no, buffer cover been blown, they heading to bright island to pick the bottles up" Kate said as she stood up and walk out of the dinning room.
Nav ran up onto the bridge "sir we got to go to bright island now" Nav said in command tone
"Nav calm down"
"sir I received a text from buffer, his cover been blown, they heading to bright island to pick up the bottle water, they will be there in five hours"
"Ok steer one six zero, top of the green"
"Steering one six zero, top of the green sir" the leader said then mike turn and pick up the phone to call Steve to give him the up date.
By then Kate was on the bridge. "don't worry Nav we will get buffer back" Kate said
"i know"
When pacific mariner was beach Jerry, Rick and Pete walk into the jungle with a portable fork lift "What going on" Pete asked
"We here to pick up cargo, we transporting it to a mates ship"
"Ok" When they reach the area, They move the branches and then walk into the old bunker
"bottle water"
"Yep a guy want to buy the water since there a drought is parts of Parkinson, they willing to buy bottle water"
"What about red cross, don't they help out"
"for the poor area, for the rich, they willing to pay big money for this"
"Ok, so you smuggle the water to here"
"Yep till the guy could come and get it but since he own a big yacht he can't come to get it him self"
"So you going to him"
"Yes in international waters"
"Ok, he must be paying you big money for this"
"Yes he is, come on"
they pick up carton of water then took it out of the bunker and put it onto the tray that on the fork lift. When it full they took it back to the boat and put it in the container. Then they return to collect the next lot. They did six trips.
When done "Hey here a spear bottle" buffer said as he pick it up
"you can have it"
"Are you sure"
"Yes"
"want some" buffer open the bottle and pass it to Rick
"no thanks I rather have beer"
"ok" Pete drank some of the water then tip some of it over his head when he was knock out from behind.
"Lets get out of here" Jerry said then he and Rick left with the remaining bottle water.
Pete pretend to be knock out. Once he heard them leave he got up and walk quietly out of the bunker, he heard them talking so he ran to where doctor homes camp is, he look around and ran to a log he knew wasn't there last time so he got on his knees and look to see if there was a hole when he saw the hole he put his hand in and he felt the bag so he pulled it out and open it and tip the bag up side down.
He pick up the container and open it he saw the syringe and note so he read the note then pick up the syringe he tap his arm like he seen the nurses do till vain pop up then he remove the cap and stuck the needle part in to the vain then he pull the end part of the syringe till he saw blood going into the tube then he push the end part of the syringe in emptying the antidote and blood into his vain.
When done he pick up bottle water and open it and drank the whole lot. Then he pick up the sat phone and turn it on, then he remove the note that was stick to the phone and dial Hammersley phone
"Hammersley able seamen Dixon speaking"
"RO, it buffer patch me through to the captain"
"ok buffer" Buffer put every thing into the bag
"buffer it the captain sip rep"
"they try to kill me sir, I had no choice but to drink the bottle water"
"Have you taken the antidote"
"Yes sir, I'll wait for you on the beach where the barge is"
"ok buffer, we hour and half away"
"I'll be there" Then they hung up.
Pete close the phone and put it in the bag. Then he stood up and ran to where the barge would be. When he got there he ran onto the ship and went down to his bunk where he pick up the phone and ran down to the captain cabin where he hid it then he went down to the engine room where he manage to disconnect couple of wires to the starting the engine, then he did it again in another part of the engine room.
When done he went to look for Dr Monroe, when he found her tied up he untied her "come on"
"No" she said sounded scared
"come on Rick planing on killing you, I'm here to save you"
"My daughter he got my daughter"
"I know, the feds got her"
"what how, are you an agent"
"no navy but working under cover, come on before they return"
She held onto his hand then they walk quickly off the barge and ran across the sand and water since the tide was coming in the water would wash away there foot prints. They ran so many meters then into the bush. They hid behind a fallen tree when they heard Jerry and Rick return with the bottle water.
"what about the bottle water, we got to stop them" she said
"i know, but don't worry navy ship will be here in over an hour"
"They will get away"
"no they won't, trust me" Pete said.
They watch what was happening for the next half an hour till they heard the engines start up and boat moving away. "Navy not going to make it"
"Oh yes they are"
The move from there spot since buffer wanted to see which way the boat is going. "Navy not going to make it" Dr Monroe said
"Yes they will that barge can go no fasted that fifteen knots, where a patrol boat can go up to eighteen knots"
"oh"
Twenty minutes later they heard a noise since they were sitting on the sand. Buffer stood up as he pick the bag up, then he put his hand out which the doctor took it so he could pull her to her feet
"what that noise
"That" He said as he walk to the water edge when a dingy showed up
"buffer mate boy we glad your ok" ET said smiling
"thanks ET, this is Doctor Monroe" buffer help her into the dingy then he got in after pushing it back into the sea.
Then they return to Hammersley who just came around the corner of the island "now that one site I surly miss" buffer said making ET laugh
They move till they were close to Hammersley since the ship was still moving. Buffer help the doctor up with charge there to help her onto the the ship then buffer did giving charge a hug
"Captain want to see you"
"thanks charge, ET take care of doctor here while I'll go and give captain a sip rep"
"sure thing buffer" ET said soon as he was on the deck.
Buffer turn and walk to one of the hatch doors. He went to the bridge to see swain there "buffer mate it great to see you"
"you to swain, X where the captain"
"communications room" Kate said
"thanks X" then he turn and open the door
"buffer" he stop and turn to Kate
"Nav got your sea bag in our cabin so you can get change" Buffer smile
"thank X" then he turn and walk off the bridge.
He walk down to the communication room where he saw mike on the phone he turn to buffer "Hang on Steve... Buffer"
"sir the pacific marine is about forty minutes ahead of us heading toward international waters where they meeting up with that yacht, they going to transferred the bottle water over to the yacht"
"Steve did you get all that... yes... get it Steve timing is important, if that barge goes over the line hundred of thousands people lives would be at stake... Steve get it please... thank you" then he hung up and turn to buffer
"Politics sir"
"Yeah, it good to have you back on board buffer"
"Same here sir, ET looking after doctor Monroe"
"i know I've met her, go and get change"
"Yes sir" buffer turn around and walk towards Nav and Kate cabin some of the crew greeted him since they saw him.
He knock on the door "come in"
buffer open the door then he look both ways before walking in and quickly close the door. Nav got off her stop bunk and step ford to hug and kiss him
"I'm glad you ok Pete"
"same here, your plan work Nikki, you help save my life"
"your life is worth saving Pete" they kiss once more.
"You got my sea bag"
"Yes I have" she turn around and open a cupboard and pull it out then turn around and pass it to Pete
"thanks Nikki" they hug and kiss once more
"you better go before the crew finds out that your in here with me" Pete smile
"sure" he kiss her once more before turning around and opening the door and walking out of the cabin.
Nikki step ford and look at the back of Pete when he stop when he talk to spider and jaffah. When he walk pass them they walk to where Nikki is when buffer turn
"Hey spider" spider stop and turn to buffer
"Yeah mate" Nikki saw buffer grin
"how your crabs" jaffah laugh
"Very funny buffer" he and jaffah turn and walk away.
Buffer gave Nav a wink before turning around and walking away. Nav walk out closing the door and walk towards the bridge. When she walk on to the bridge
"did buffer get his bag ok Nav" mike asked
"Yes sir he even ask spider about his crabs" Swain and Kate laugh
"crew sure not going to live that one down for a while" Kate said
"no I guest not X" Mike said
