Rufus was on stage. Tonight, he was doing the last concert of his tour. He was singing Rosewood. The song he had written for her. He was deseperatly looking at the audience, looking for her, wishing she was there. Because, yes, it had been almost nine months since she left, but he was still missing her.
It was painful for him to sing this particular ballad, the first one he wrote for her. But it was his personal favourite and he knew he would disappoint every single person standing and cheering in the crowd if he didn't sing it. Plus he had thought it could mean something to him, as if it could have marked the beginning of a new era of his life. A life without Lily.
But as he was singing, he felt a huge pain growing in his chest. He then realised that he was obviously not over her and certainly not ready to move on yet.
He drew back his attention to the crowd facing him. All of those people were here for him, but none of this mattered because the one person he truly wanted to see standing there wasn't in the public. He couldn't help looking everywhere, searching for her.
Until he actually saw her. She was there standing in front of the back doors. His Lily was here. In the darkness of the concert hall, he was only able to see her face and, as he sang, he just couldn't take his eyes off her. Then, for one second he looked up at the crowd. When he drew his attention back to her, she was looking back, getting out of the room.
He was so scared he would never see her again that he barely finished the song and jumped off the stage, making his way through the crowd and exiting the room. When he got out, he saw her. She was standing there, looking away, lost in her thoughts. He looked at her and it struck him. She was pregnant. He then realised that this meant she had moved on. And pretty fast. This affected him so much. Yet he felt like he truly was in the need to talk to her. He stepped and stopped right in front of her.
Lily couldn't look at him without starting to cry. She knew it. That's why she asked him
"Get out of my way Rufus."
But Rufus had made up his mind "No"
"Get out of my way.", she tried again, alreary knowing she could not escape this conversation.
"No" he said again, hoping this would make her stay this time.
And she stayed.
Rufus started to talk. He didn't want her to leave before he would have the chance to say what was on his mind. "Lil', I see you've moved on pretty fast" He had use her nickname, it had came out so naturally. Now he regreted it. But he kept going anyway. "I just want to know one thing, and I need you to be honest. Did you ever loved me?"
Even though she was expecting him to ask her that question, it was hard to hear. "Of course I've loved you! How can you even question that?" Actually, she knew perfectly why he would not believe her. But she couldn't help it. She realised that she might have needed and been waiting for this conversation for a long time.
Rufus was starting to get mad at her. He loved her so much and she had hurt his feelings so bad. He deserved to know why. "Why then? Did you meet someone else? Did you just stopped loving me?" he deeply hoped those were not the reasons.
"No, of course not " Here, tears were starting to show at the corner of her eyes.
Rufus felt a breath of hope coming from his heart. Did that mean she still loved him? But he wasn't brave enough to ask her that in this particular moment. "Where you insecure about something ? Did I do something wrong?"
"No. Please stop, Rufus. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't tell you." she had said that but if he continued, she'd open up and tell him everything.
" Did someone force you into breaking up with me?" this was his last idea. But this time, she didn't answer.
