Chapter 2: For better or worst
Three hours later I was sitting in front of a blue grizzled alien with no nose. We eye each other for a few minutes. "Name, Former Rank, Serial Number, Abilities?" Surprisingly he doesn't sound as nasally as I thought he would. I take a breath before I go into everything.
"Jack "Lacy" Lace, No rank or Number. Thanks to this watch I am able to shapeshift into other aliens/xenos." He tapped at his pad thingy. "Name the Races that you can turn into." I rubbed my eyes. "Just to let you know that there are a bunch in here that are from entirely different universes."
He arches an eyeridge, "We are aware of the Warp." I put my head on the table. "I have those too but the ones I'm talking about come from an alternate.. Uh timeline? I'm not sure how to explain it." He taps again, "Then name what you can." I nodded.
"Tau, Ork, Eldar, Hrud, Daemon Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Tzeetch. Kroot, Skaven? Astartes. And plenty more." He types again then puts the tablet down. "Are you willing to fight for the Greater Good of the Farsight Enclaves?" He stares at me knowing that he may have no choice but to send me on my way. "Can I have a bed somewhere? And Food?"
He nods, "Okay but I need to rest a bit. And eat something that isn't a person." He stood and motioned for me to follow. He leads me down a hallway where we enter a room with a few dozen bunk beds.
He pointed to a bed at the back, "That'll be your bed, the foot locker shall be assigned to you. You will be responsible for the sheets and pillows. You will have a Credit Score, to buy anything you need, such as Rations and other amenities." I walk over and put my helmet on the bed.
I walk back to him, he turns and walks down the hallway again. Soon we were in a cafeteria full of the Farsight Tau. I didn't see any other humans. Though they didn't quiet down at my arrival, several of them gave me the side eye.
"This is where you will eat. Would certainly be better than your imperium." We continued again to another large room with mats and what I could only tell is training equipment. "This is where you'll train. You'll come here after the morning feasts. You'll train for three hours with 15 minutes till the next training session."
This continued till we finally moved back towards the barracks. "You get to rest for the rest of the day. Remember to be up when the sound is rung." I nodded and walked back to my bed and looked into the footlocker to find a new skin suit and cloth uniform.
It had my name and new rank. Shas'La Gue'vesa Jack Lace. There is a patch underneath it that calls me a special unit. I take my armor off and begin to change. However the moment that I was naked was when multiple people began to filter in.
I was about to panic when I realized that the Omnitrix can store and give me the whole outfit. I quickly scan and apply the outfit. It is a perfect fit. I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a tall tau woman in blue robes.
"Greetings Gue'vesa Lace. I am a member of the Water caste, I am here to make sure you are aware of the positions and of the purpose of this enclave." I nodded, she sat on the bed next to mine and I sat down on mine.
"First of all you need to be notified that the use of warp abilities is strictly prohibited." I looked at her with confusion. "What you did just now." I made an ah sound, "That wasn't a warp ability, it was due to the Omnitrix." I raised my watch up to her.
She peers at it for a brief moment, "I'll schedule a session to find out what exactly it can do. Next, the Morning Feast begins at the sound of an alarm. Right after you are to go to the training area to learn how to fight for the Greater Good." I can hear the capital letters.
"Since you are a special unit for this enclave. You will not be assigned until we are sure you can be of use. On that note, you should be aware that the Farsight Enclaves have been abandoned by the greater tau empire." I stared at her blankly.
She nods, "Moving on to protocol, If someone is of higher rank you are beholden to them. Though if they are from another caste they can not command you. If we are attacked, someone of higher rank from another caste can be commanded by you even at your lowest rank."
She reached into a bag that she had and pulled out a tiny booklet. "This has any and every rule that you'll need to study. Forgive the size, it was the only one we have for humans." She handed it to me and I opened it to find it was written in tiny letters. Like the kind I'll need a magnifying glass.
I handed it back to her. "My Watch can translate any language, I just need to scan the words first to compare it to my own." She nods, "I'll make sure you get the proper materials then. One last thing your ship shall be compounded till we are certain that you are able to use it for the Greater Good."
She stood up and bowed slightly to me, "Good Tides be with you. For the Greater Good." I nod to her. As she walks away her retinue falls behind her. Soon I was all alone. I lay in my bed stressed out of my mind. The past few weeks are finally getting to me.
I pass out in seconds, my dreams are haunted by the things I killed and what I'll have to kill. I wake up to the sound of whistling. "Come on Recruit! Get Up!" I got up in a rush and stood at attention. I look around to find the person that woke me up.
Then I looked down, Another Tau bald with a couple of scars on their head. He was looking up at me with contempt. "Congratulations Recruit! You got up in record time! But don't feel too good, it is your only record!" I decided that I wasn't going to try to piss off this guy.
"I'll be your commanding officer and trainer for your stay here. Now to begin, you are going to run around this base five times. That means getting outside and then to start running. But don't take your sweet time to get there! We aren't the Water caste sailing into shore! Right!?"
"SIR YES SIR!" Where the hell did that come from?! I haven't yelled that loudly since I was a teenager. He nods and points to the door. "You have 10 minutes to find the Exit. GO!" I headed to the door and I began looking for the exit. I landed in their hanger, I didn't get a chance to find one.
After a few minutes I came up with a rather Stupid Idea. Several water caste members were talking to the side. I walked up to them, "Excuse me, where is the exit to the facility?" One smiles at me, "Gavit loves that trick, It is next to the Barracks, I assume you left it on the right."
I bow to them, "May the Odds be ever in your Favor, for the Greater Good." They bowed back, "For the Greater Good." I then run back with two minutes to spare with the midget Tau smiling smugly. "How did you figure it out?"
I took a breath in and let it out, "I talk to a couple of water castes." He nods, "That is one of the lessons of the Greater Good. Even though we are divided by our castes, We are better together than alone." he turns and walks out the building. I followed, when we got out I saw the city or better to call it a Military Compound.
I see various vessels hovering across the ground, some pulling carts, others heading out for patrol. When we stop just a few meters from the building, he turns and "GET READY RECRUIT!" I got ready to run then I had another stupid idea.
"GO!" He screamed then I ran. I lifted up the watch, "XLR8!" Like Upgrade my suit was completely black with an orange visor. Not only that, I knew that I was bigger than a normal Kineceleran. I was a bit bulker then normal but built very lean.
As I ran I saw that everything was at a stand still as I passed Gavit I saw he had a scanner out. It was a stop watch basically. It also shows how many times I passed him. By the next pass, It showed 12 passes, then 34, 50, 60, 100. I then stop to transform back.
When I did, his machine made a loud alarm sound. He looked at it in shock, then at me in pure destain. "You weren't supposed to use that?!" He smirks a second later. "But good on you for using the tools that you have." He walked up to me and punched me in the gut. "Gah!"
When I got up he yelled again. "It's twenty laps now and this time don't use the fancy watch! Get running, NOW!" I ran and let me tell you, running after getting punched in the gut is not healthy. By the end of the twenty laps I fell on my face. He rolled me over with his foot.
"It took you 2 hours and 53 minutes to complete your run. Now head inside to shower and get something in a minute." I sat up with some pain. "I'm guessing I missed Breakfast?" He arched a ridge. "If you mean this morning's feast, yes you did. Slept through it, hence why I was assigned to you."
I got up and walked back to the barracks and showered, luckily it was empty and the hot water felt great till it turned cold the next second. It took all I had not to squeal out. The wall had a button on it. I pressed it and felt a glob of goo on my head. I scooped it up and smelled it. Soap?
After I showered I headed to the cafeteria, Surprisingly it was an Earth Caste member that was serving up food. "Eat up Gue'vesa, you need to be bigger than that if you want to ride with us." I nodded as he put a bunch of random bars and cantine of water onto a tray and handed it to me.
I went to an empty table to eat. The bars have different tastes. It probably is nothing but vitamins and what not. The water was refreshing and with a slight mineral taste. Two Tau decided to sit across from me. They both have a mohawk, one was wavy the other was spiky.
We stared at each other for a good minute. The wavy hair tau spoke up, "Is it true that you Humans worship a corpse?" The spiky haired Tau grins, "Tal'No Don't ask such a creepy question. "Aw come Nal'To your curious too."
I sighed, "I don't worship him, The 'God-Emperor of Mankind' is unfortunately still alive. He was there at the beginning of humanity and he'll be there at the end. For the past 10 thousand years, he has been fed, everyday, the souls of human psykers."
I take another bite of a bar. "He wanted an Empire that wasn't chained to superstitions and religions. Now he is worshiped by the worst of humanity. Many of his 'sons' turned against him while the loyalist slowly disappeared into the ether."
I took another bite when I looked up I saw that the whole room was quietly watching me. I turned back to the ones sitting across from me. Tal'no spoke softly, "That's more information then we ever got out anyone." Nal'to spoke next, "Do you know more?" I nodded slowly.
For the next hour and a half, I told them i.e the whole cafeteria. Of everything I know about the Imperium, Making sure to tell them That what I know and what is real may be different. Turns out the whole room was filled with both water caste and fire caste intelligence workers.
They haven't gotten any good intel since they've been cast off. They've been told to get every little bit of info from as possible not expecting me to share so much. Tal'no and Nal'to were code names. I don't know what their real name is.
I was being recorded, scanned and my words were being memorized. They asked about the guardsmen, I told them ones that I knew about. They asked about the space marines, I told them all that I knew but made it clear that I don't know how to make one. The navy, the vehicles, weapons and so much more.
It spilled over to other races, Eldar both light and dark, Orks, Chaos, Necron and again so much more. Eventually they asked about themselves and I told them all that I knew when I was done. I took a large gulp of the water that had been refilled.
Tal'no stood up, "Is that all that you know." I nodded, She took a breath, "We currently have more information then we were prepared for. Everyone, head to your stations and get everything down into the system."
She looks back at me. "I'm recommending you to get started on training your watch. We need to see how to best you as an asset." Everyone filed out of the room when it was emptied it was just me and Gavit at the entrance.
"Knew you were a problem the moment I saw you. You just started and already you managed to get us a victory for the Greater Good." He walked over and sat. He sighed and then the next thing we're doing is going over tactics and maneuvers.
An hour later I got new orders. Gavit and I are going to the other side of the planet to test out my powers. I took my ship over there and Gavit taught me how to fly in the atmosphere. When we got there Gavit escorted me to the main courtyard. There an old tau was working on his power suit.
I then realized that this place was the Military compound. He turned to me and bowed. I bowed back to him. "You're the one that got my Intelligence officers in a frantic mood. Did you know that none of the Etherials had such information?"
I shook my head, "Well we do now, I believe you said that you from an alternate timeline and all this either hasn't or won't happen. Correct?" I nodded, "Yes sir." He gave a smile, normally the T'au had normal looking teeth, but he had huge chompers. "I am Shas'O Vior'la Shovah Kais Mont'yr or as other humans called me, Commander Farsight."
I stood still then fell back and passed out.
