Summary: While eating out at dinner, Shaun and Lea debate on the items to put on their baby registry. Set right before they come home to Dr. Glassman babyproofing in "Hard Heart".
With Dr. Glassman driving Shaun and Lea a bit crazy with his hovering, the expectant couple decided to have dinner together at the Mediterranean place, mainly because Lea was craving falafels.
While Lea was devouring her plate of falafels and roasted branzino (Shaun didn't order very much except for naan bread and falafels and a salad), she and Shaun looked over their baby registry for their shower, reviewing and critiquing everything.
"Shaun, do we really need three different thermometers?" Lea scoffed playfully. "Are you going to take Peanut's temperature three times whenever he gets sick? Or four if you count the one that we already have?"
On their registry, Shaun put three different thermometers on the list. One was a 3-in-1 thermometer that could be used orally, rectally, or under the armpit. Another was a quickread rectal thermometer. And the third was an ear thermometer. They already had a no-touch forehead thermometer at home.
"We don't know which way will be easier to take his temperature since he might have preferences, so we need to try out many different ones," explained Shaun, drinking his water from the glass. "Rectal and forehead temps are the most accurate, but an ear thermometer can be used after six months old."
"Well, I don't want to use a thermometer that has been in another person's ass," cringed Lea. "You think Peanut will be the only one getting sick?"
"I know. Neither do I," agreed Shaun. "That's why we need separate thermometers. Dr. Glassman had four separate thermometers when Maddie was born."
"Okay then," sighed Lea as she looked through her phone at the different breast pumps on the list. "I am still unsure which breast pump I should get, though."
"We won't need to put that on our registry," reminded Shaun. "Our insurance covers it, so we can get it ourselves."
"That's great," said Lea. "Also, do you think we should get convertible items? I bet it would save a lot of money."
On their list was a bassinet that could be transformed into a playpen, a highchair that could be transformed into a chair, a crib that could be transformed into a toddler bed, and a few other things that could last throughout the years.
"We should, but we need to get a few newborn baby clothes off the list," reminded Shaun. "Dr. Park said that we don't need that many newborn-size baby clothes. They grow out of them too fast."
"Good point," sighed Lea as she took a bite out of a falafel, realizing how many newborn-sized clothes she put on her registry. They were cute, but not worth it if worn only once or never. "Do we really need a high chair? He might not use it for a year."
"Yes, we do," decided Shaun. "We'll need it as soon as Peanut starts eating solid foods."
"Okay, that's fine," nodded Lea. "But a baby bum brush?"
"I don't want diaper cream on my fingers," justified Shaun. "It also smells funny, and it will make changing diapers easier for me."
"If it works for you, then okay," smiled Lea as she and Shaun continued discussing their registry and upcoming baby shower.
"We'll see what we receive at our baby shower, and then we'll figure out the rest of what to buy," suggested Shaun, fumbling with his napkin in his lap.
"We still need to figure out which furniture we will need to use for the nursery," reminded Lea, as she and Shaun hadn't yet decided on what crib and dresser/changing table they would use for the nursery.
Besides the stress of making sure they put everything they needed on their registry, they were also excited about their baby shower.
The biggest reason why they were excited was because Claire was going to be visiting from Guatemala that week (Shaun had also been trying to track down Jared as well). She wasn't just coming for the celebration, but she was also recommending one of her patients from Guatemala to St. Bonaventure. It wasn't just that; the patient and their family would be Claire's plus one at the baby shower.
After all, Claire mentioned that it was a patient Shaun and Lea met before when they went to Guatemala.
AN: Yes, one of the former patients will be returning and reuniting with Shaun and Lea, and it's a patient we met in Guatemala. I guess you can narrow it down who the surprise guest will be. I hope you all enjoyed. Please review :)
