Welcome to Chapter 5 of Golden Rogue. I'm so glad that I managed to get this to you in time. I'm planning to focus more on my writing so I could be more like some of my favorite writers like choejhulkp9 and Guardian-Sigil please enjoy.
Star City, 2046
"I never heard of any Legends." The Mysterious Green Arrow said before firing an arrow at them. However it misses and hits a wall behind them causing an explosion. Seems it was an explosive arrow. Mick retaliates with his heat gun, but the hooded man ducks and uses a grapple arrow to move out of the car roof and go towards them.
"Get back!" Rip orders as they take cover behind cars as the Green Arrow fires at them from a distance.
"This guy a friend of yours?" Mick asks Sara. "I don't like him."
As the Green Arrow proceeds to fire at them, Lisa, Rip, and Lenny take it upon themselves to fight back. They aim their guns and fire at will.
"What are you doing?" Sara snapped at Rip.
"It's called shooting back." He replied with a sassy tone.
"This can't be the Green Arrow." Kendra expresses, not believing for a second that this man was who he claims to be. Said man shoots his arrow at the hood of their car.
"That's not Oliver Queen." Sara exclaimed
"Sure dresses like him." Ray said as Mick starts firing back at the emerald archer.
"Shoots arrows like him." Lenny yells.
"Well, whoever he is, I don't plan on sticking around to get shish kebabed by this dude." Jax yelled
"Kid's right. Let's stay behind and kill him." Mick offers, wanting to kill someone.
"He means we need to get out of here!" Lisa yells at Mick.
"Indeed Ms. Snart! We need to return to the ship!" Rip orders, and everyone does so without hesitation. They manage to evade the deadly archer and return to the ship.
As the team returns to the ship, they are still surprised to learn that Star City ends up becoming World War 3. As soon as they enter the bridge they take that as an opportunity to learn about the future.
"All right, Rip, tell us the truth." Sara demands from Rip.
"You've all seen how the time line is malleable, in flux until it is set. Well, this future is not set." As he explains this, sparks come from different parts of the ship. "Remember when I told you it was dangerous for any of you to know too much about your own futures? Well, the events that you dread could very well come to be due to your actions to prevent them."
"Oh yeah. Like in movies when someone sees into the future, everything that they do in order to stop it just creates a chain of events that lead to that very future." Lisa explains, which leads to surprised faces from everyone. "What? I know stuff."
"You know what I think? I think you think too much." Mick claims, which causes Rip to glare at him.
"Believe me when I tell you that the best thing for yourselves and for this mission is to make the repairs to the Waverider here in 2046, then head back to your own time and make sure that none of this ever comes to be."
As much as they all hate to admit it he was right. The only way they could stop this is if they do it themselves after the mission. But that was a different problem. Lisa decides to check on Sara and Ray. She may be a criminal, but she isn't heartless. When she finds Sara she starts a conversation.
"Hey, Sara. How are you holding up?" Lisa asks.
"Pretty well considering the future of my city is as damaged my me." Sara replied sadly.
"Listen, don't worry about all this, it doesn't matter." She tries to help but that fails.
"It does matter! In the future my father, my sister, all my friends could be dead, and I don't even know how!" Sara yells at Lisa with tears in her eyes.
"Exactly! In the future. We come from 30 years before this. And Rip said that this timeline isn't set. This doesn't have to be the end of your home." Lisa tries to calm her down and this time it lands.
"Thanks, Lisa. When did you end up being a good person." She asks
"A pretty smart friend of mine kinda opened me up to people." Lisa mentions, talking about a certain tech nerd from team flash.
"Hello malcontents. I have a job for you." Rip said. He was carrying some rectangular tech thing. Lisa just knew that it had something to do with it.
"This is the neuromorphic interface for Gideon's logic and navigation matrix. Without it, Gideon cannot function."
"Which is why we're stranded here in the future. So you want us to find another one?" Lisa deduced.
"Indeed. Now Doctor Palmer said that we may be able to find one in Palmer Tech. We'll look there." Rip said as he hands the interface to Mick as he inspects it.
"It's not money, it's not jewels, it's not a valuable artifact. You're just lucky I'd steal anything right about now." He said as the rogues gathered their gear.
"As I suspected." Rip replies.
"We'll get your gizmo. You just get this bucket flying again." Lenny said as Sara enters the room in her White Canary suit.
"I'm coming with." She said as she grabs her coat.
"No. No, you are not." Rip refuses. "You're too emotionally connected to this city. We've been over this-."
"I'm over you. You've got us on a mission to change the time line for yourself, and you won't even let us look at our futures? Now, I know this city better than anyone else and you're going to need me out there. So, either I'm coming with, or we can find out if the Time Masters are as good at teaching people to fight as the League of Assassins." Sara threatens him, leaving Rip with no choice but to comply.
As they walk towards Palmer Tech, now known as Smoak industries Mick turns to Rip.
"If this is just a potential future, it doesn't matter if we kill anyone here, right?" He questions Rip.
"Well, to avoid the risk of a paradox, it's probably best to refrain from killing anyone." Rip replies.
"I'm not gonna promise anything." Mick said.
Sara walks past them to observe the area. "My sister's apartment used to be over here."
"I seem to remember something about your father being a police captain?" Lenny mentions.
"Your point?" Sara asks.
"He did one hell of a job." He replies.
"My father, and everyone else, would never have let this happen. Unless they were all dead." As much as Lisa hated cops, she missed order. There was chaos everywhere they went. Fire everywhere they looked. It was mortifying even for her. It was about to get worse as some motorcycles came towards them. "Palmer Tech's just two blocks up this way. At least it used to be." As they kept walking an explosion had appeared next to them and gunshots and yells were heard.
"Take cover in there!" Rip points to a bus, which they abide by as they enter the bus they go to take cover by the seats.
"It's like World War III out there." Lenny said horrified.
"It's beautiful!" Mick said really excited. Lisa stared at him with disbelief.
"Seriously!?" She said.
"Just saying." He replied as the "Green Arrow" entered the scene on top of a truck and shot arrows at the surrounding criminals. As the fight went on more and more explosions occurred, causing more and more caution in the group.
"We need to find another route." Rip tells them as the "Green Arrow" shoots two arrows at two criminals fighting each other, as another gets knocked into the bus window causing it to shatter, and Mick's laughter, as Lisa shakes his head at him. As the retrieval team continues to watch the fight, they see the "Green Arrow" get shot and fall off the truck. Afterwards Sara gets up from her cover and tries to help him. "Ms. Lance, don't. Sara! Damn it!" He said as Sara pursued the Emerald Archer. "You three, don't move. We'll be right back."
"Right." Mick pretends to comply before Rip is beyond earshot. "We're not gonna sit here, right?" He asks the siblings, and Lisa smirks before responding.
"Of course not Mick, imagine all the looting we can do in this chaos." She said
"Why don't we stretch our legs at that bank we passed three blocks back." Lenny responds and the Rogues leave the bus to find that bank before a gang shows up in bikes and aims guns at them.
One of them steps forward and says: "Drop your weapons, and hand over your wallets."
"Wait, are you actually trying to mug us?" Lenny points out the irony.
Mick stares unimpressed. "What is this, amateur hour?" The leader steps up threateningly. He seems to be stronger than Mick, so he could be a problem if they didn't have guns.
"If you don't do what my man says, we're gonna crush you into the pavement like a couple of ants."
"Really?" Mick raises an eyebrow.
"What do you say we teach these fellas a lesson?" Lenny asks his teammates.
"Mick you want to take the first swing?" Lisa offers, knowing that he would want to punch somebody
"Yeah." Mick agrees. As he gets ready the leader has his fur coat removed and walks up to Lenny and punches him in the face.
"Hey!" She said. How dare he hit her brother.
"That's what you get when you don't follow directions." He said. Mick stares at him.
"Interesting. Hold this." He holds out his gun to Lenny. Lenny takes it as Mick throws a punch at the leader leaving him unfazed. Mick nods his head before grabbing his gun. "On second thought..." He said before shooting the leader and burning him to death.
The gang screams in terror. The one with the fur coat asks: "Where'd ya get that?"
"eBay." Mick replies sarcastically. The gang remains fazed by their leader's death. Mick walks up to the man who gives him the fur coat. "Now, your boss will not be needing this."
Lisa and Lenny look at each other in confusion before agreeing they should probably leave.
"Well, this has been fun, but I think it's time to leave." Lenny said.
"Leave"? Mick questions before grabbing a female gang member by the shoulders. "Why would we leave?" He said as he laughs and goes to grab a bike. "Come on, sweetheart." He tells the female. Lisa and Lenny relent and grab their own bikes before following.
They end up parking in a bar where the gang parties like there's no tomorrow. Lisa starts to get nervous seeing Mick like this. If things go wrong, he may want to stay here forever. They can't leave without Mick. He's her friend, and like family to her. Her thoughts are put to a holt when Mick starts yelling.
"Hey, you!" Mick points at the gang guy from earlier. "I'm terrible with names. I'm gonna call you Fonzie." He said as the man cheered. Mick points to another "And call you Kenickie." Like the guy from Grease? Weird? Still the crowd cheered for Mick. "Anyone else here need a name?"
"Your Highness, can I get a moment of your time, please?" Lenny asks.
"Sure." He responds as he walks to the siblings.
"Isn't the future great?" Mick says. No it isn't. It's not even fun to rob people with no cops to try to stop them. The thrill of the chase right?
"We really should go find Rip and Sara." Lisa said.
Mick raises an eyebrow. "Why?" He asks.
"Because we're not looking to put down roots here." Lenny specifies this time period. Sure there was crime, but Mick could be dangerous here.
"Why not? It's everything we've ever wanted. I've got a gang that does everything I tell 'em to. I've got a fur coat. I've got a chalice. Speaking of..." He fills his chalice with a drink.
"What about stopping Savage?" Lenny reminds him.
"What about it? You were the one who said we're in this for the score, remember? We could live like kings here. No cops, no heroes. Just some fool in a green hoodie. It's Christmas every day." He reasons and the woman from earlier walks to him and Mick wraps his arm around her shoulder "Ah. My sweets." He walks past the Snarts leaving them to stare at him worriedly.
"This is bad. He's really liking it here." Lisa said to her brother.
"Yeah, too much." Lenny responds while still looking at Mick.
"You know what this means right?"
"Yeah. If we don't persuade him to leave, he'll want to stay here and live as a king in World War 3. And you know how scary Mick can be"
"Don't you get it!? There is no persuading him. He can't be reasoned with. He's not gonna listen to us. So what do we do?"
"...what we have to do." That's all he says as more thugs with grey and black masks and face painting walk in out of nowhere. Some of them remind Lisa of that terrorist from Star city a few years back. Wilson was it?
Then their leader steps forward dressed exactly like Deathstroke but with black and grey instead of blue and orange "Party's over. Everyone hit the streets, hit everybody on them. I want Green Arrow dead by morning." He orders as Mick walks up to them.
"Listen, pal. This is my gang." He tells him threateningly. "The only orders they take are from me."
"Hmm. Might be your gang, but it's my city. Green Arrow is running with a female assassin in white and a Brit in a brown coat. Kill 'em all."
"That sounds exactly like Rip and Sara. We have to find them like now." Lisa said to Lenny and he nods.
"Looks like your new minions are about to go on a citywide manhunt for Rip and Sara." He said to Mick.
"So what?" He responds
"They're gonna kill our friends." Lenny shows he actually cares about them.
"Since when did they become our friends?" Mick asks confused.
"You tell me. You and Raymond seemed to get pretty tight back in Russia." Lenny claims.
"I've never been tight with anyone!" Mick denies.
"Mick, it's time to go." Lenny walks forward
"You're not the boss of me!" Mick pulls out his gun.
Lenny turns toward him. "Actually, I am." He pulls out his own gun.
Lisa walks between them. "Ok, calm down boys. Take a deep breath." She inhales for a moment. "And we'll make ourselves a deal. You help me get to Rip and Sara. Once they're safe, we can have this conversation. Fair?" She offers causing Mick to sigh and get rid of his gun. They all head to their bikes and roam around Star city. Mick sends the gang the other way while the Rogues head for Smoak tech. On the way they see an explosion in a warehouse. They decide to check inside only to find Rip Sara and the "Green Arrow" fighting a few thugs. The Rogues open fire on the thugs and save Rip and Sara from capture.
"My friends, your timing is exemplary." Rip congratulates them as the fight ends. As they finish Sara looks around worriedly.
"Where's Connor?" She asks.
"I'll do you one better, who's Connor?" Lisa responds not knowing who the hell Connor is.
"I'll do you one better, why is Connor?" Mick asks, as everyone turns to him with confused looks. "What?"
They look down and notice a bow sitting around
"He's been taken." Rip realizes.
"These are Grant Wilson's men." Sara analyzes.
"Mmm. The guy with the half -face and the body armor has a real mad-on for the kid in the hoodie." Mick brings up.
"Can I have a word?" Rip asks Sara as they walk away.
"Now that we rescued them, let's have that chat." Mick reminds them of the deal.
"You want to stay here." Lenny brings up.
"I thought I made that pretty clear. What I'm less clear on is why you don't. A city of thieves and criminals."
"Sounds like a lot of competition to me." Lisa says.
"Then we wipe 'em out. What I did to that other guy, we do the same thing to this Grant Wilson, and anyone else stupid enough to get in our way. Take a look around, guys. We're living the dream."
"Yeah. Speaking of which..." Lenny said as he hits Mick with his gun in the head. "Sleep tight, buddy."
"What happened to him?" Rip asks as he and Sara finish their private discussion.
"Difference of opinion." Lenny offers as an answer.
"Right. We need to get this, and Mr. Rory, back to the Waverider." He said as he walks away. Lenny and Lisa grab Mick by his limbs and carries him to the Waverider brig. Lisa sits down and waits for Lenny while he goes with Rip and Sara to deliver the interface. By the time Lenny returns Mick had woken up pissed.
"Hello, Mick." Lenny greets him.
"You son of a bitch!" Mick calls him angerly.
"Just calm down." He chides Mick.
"You lied to me!" Mick charges him but is stopped by the barrier.
"Wouldn't be the first time. Remember the Del Rey currency exchange? The Blackhawk armored carjob? If we hadn't lied to you on those scores, we'd both be in prison or dead. We're the brains. You're the muscle. That's how it's always been. And, on occasion, I've had to call some audibles. You have a habit of getting in your own way, Mick."
"Hmm. You're right. You've lied to me about jobs before. But then again, you lied to me about this being a job. It's not about the score anymore for you. You'd rather save the world than be my partner. A real team player."
"'Cause that's what it's gonna take to defeat Savage." Lisa responds.
"Then what? More money? More power? A life of leisure and sin?"
"Don't you get it, Mick? We take out Savage, this immortal monster, can't you see what that gets us?" Lenny asks him.
"No. Tell me." Mick said curiously.
"We'd be the three biggest badasses of all time!" Lisa offers.
"I don't want a ticker-tape parade. You know what I want from this world."
"Yes." Lenny responds. "To see it burn." He said worried.
"You lay a hand on me again, you'll burn, too." Mick glares at him as he walks away to find his gun.
"Do you think we made the right call?" Lisa asks not so confidently.
"I hope so." Lenny said just as unsurely.
"Maybe he needs some time is all. I'm gonna go check on the team, wanna come?" She asks him.
"You go ahead. I'm gonna take some time to rest. Been a long day." Lenny walks away leaving her alone. She heads off to the bridge and sees Stein and Rip talking.
"ls the ship ready for departure?" Rip asks the professor.
"No, Ms. Lance is not yet on board." Stein responds.
"I gave her an hour." Rip reminds him. An hour? For what?
"Hardly enough time for-"
"-And she's been 90 minutes. How much longer are we supposed to wait?"
"Wait what's happening here?" Lisa asks.
"Sara has departed from the Waverider in an effort to save Mr. Hawke." Was that his name? Connor Hawke? Doesn't sound familiar.
"We can't just leave her here." This is an outrage.
"Well she's passed the deadline, what do you expect me to do!?" Rip yells.
"lt doesn't matter that this is a potential future. lt doesn't matter that this may never come to pass. lt may never be real. For Sara, this is very real."
"I know, which is why I gave her an extra 30 minutes." Rip said without heart. "Gideon, what's our status?"
"The Waverider is operational, Captain, but I can't guarantee for how long." Gideon tells them.
"Explain?"
"We are cloaked, but positioned dangerously close to where the city's criminal element is gathering to witness the execution of Connor Hawke. The longer we wait, the greater
the risk of detection and further damage to the ship." She explains leaving them to decide Sara's fate knowing the risks.
"Do you really want to risk being marooned in this version of 2046 forever?"
"Certainly more than I want to maroon Sara here."
"She's our friend, our teammate." Lisa reminds him.
"What's the point of stopping Savage if we only become as immoral as he is in the process?" Stein reasons with Rip as he stares hesitantly.
"Gideon, gather the team and tell them to get ready. We have a rescue mission to get to." Lisa smirks at this and goes to find her gun.
As they reach the battlefield, they find Sara and Connor engaging in combat with the enemy along with a cloaked individual. The Atom and Hawkgirl fly ahead and attack from above before landing while the rest blast from a distance.
"How'd you convince Rip to stay?" White Canary asks The Atom.
"Actually, sending in the cavalry was his idea." He grins as the team unites after a few steps.
"Where's Mr. Queen?" Queen? As in Oliver Queen the Green Arrow? Lisa has a lot to catch up on. She watches from afar as the Green Arrow and Connor fight off Deathstroke before Connor shoots a rope arrow at him tying his arms together as the original emerald archer knocks him out with his Robo-arm
"Cowards, all!" Mick yells as he walks back to the ship still pissed as Lisa and Lenny stare at him.
"Oliver?" The Atom recognizes them.
"It's good to see you again, Ray. Kendra, thanks for the assist." Green Arrow thanks them
"So, who's that?" Kendra questions him on Deathstroke.
"His name is Grant Wilson. Once upon a time, his father Slade tried to ruin my life."
"That is not a nice family." Ray said and Lisa rolls his eyes.
"That's good shooting, John." Oliver says to Connor as he returns Oliver his bow.
"It's Connor." He responds with a smile.
"Either way, it's Green Arrow." Oliver calls him that with honor. Lisa takes this as her cue to leave and the rest of the team follows.
"All right, Gideon, let's see if these repairs that Martin, Ray and Jax made are up to scratch." Rip tells Gideon
"As far as I can tell, Ms. Saunders did most of the work, while the two gentlemen competed for her-" Gideon tries to mention before being interrupted.
"Just get us out of here please, Gideon." Stein begs with irritation.
"I'm gonna miss this place." Mick said worrying Lisa.
"Yeah, they really seemed like your kind of people." Ray responds and Mick stares at Lisa.
"I don't know who my people are anymore." He said causing her to worry.
"So, where to next, Captain?" Stein asks Rip.
"Well, the beauty of this mission is that the real question is not where, but when. In which case, I suggest that we next hit Savage when he least expects it."
He said as he launches the Waverider into the time stream.
The end
