Hi everyone! I am sorry I have been absent for so long. I just have not been able to carve out any time to write. I really would like to get back to my other WIP stories – the making of an heir, till the last breath leaves my body and who knows what you think of me now. I'm just not sure when that will happen. In the interim here is a short one shot that I was inspired to write on my iphone on the way home. I hope you enjoy it!

"You are horrid when you want to be"
There he was stating the obvious- that she was horrid to Edith. If only he knew how horrid Edith had been to her.

Matthew, like everyone else thought that she was unjustly terrible to Edith. But it wasn't so unjust. Even if what Edith had done was eight years ago and Mary was now safely married and expecting their first child.

"Madly". She heard Matthew say, insisting he loved her anyway.
Matthew pecked her on the cheek and slipped under the covers with a book. Mary slid over next to him, indicating that she wanted him to read to her. It had become a tradition, in her later months of pregnancy. She loved listening to Matthew's voice and she wanted the baby to hear also. Matthew was already such a doting father, rubbing and kissing her belly, talking to the baby like the baby could actually understand him. It was so sweet, so middle class, she could not wait to see them together.
"What are you reading tonight?"
"Tess of the d'ubervilles"
"Really Matthew, is that what you want our son to hear?"
"It's a wonderful book, and our son or our DAUGHTER, will benefit greatly from it"

Mary sighed, she really did hope it would be a boy, heir to secure the earldom. She thought for a moment and considered her next words carefully.

"There are reasons I am horrid to Edith, reasons you have no knowledge of"

Matthew rolled his eyes.

"Yes I know, she stole your bunny"

Mary lightly punched him in the shoulder.

"Seriously darling, I am trying to be better to her, in memory of dear Sybil, and because even Edith did not to be jilted at the Altar. But she is not nearly as innocent as you think."

Matthew looked intrigued.

"So are you going to tell me."

Mary, snuggled under his arm and chin.

"No, I'm not going to tell you. Not tonight anyway. It was really ugly and it caused major damage to me for years. But that is all I'm going to say for now. Stirring it up can't be good for our child."

Matthew hugged her tighter and kissed her head.

"I do love the way you put our baby first. You are going to make a wonderful mother."

Mary smiled into his chest.

"If I will be, it will only be , because you make me that way. You truly bring out the best in me."

She then repositioned so that she could look into Matthew's beautiful piercing blue eyes, and stroke his cheek. Matthew kissed her lightly.

"I love you so very much."

Mary kissed him back, and stroked his bottom lip with her tongue, and deepening the kiss. She started to feel passionate and had a desperate need to show him just how she felt. Matthew pulled a way for a moment.

"Darling are you sure? Is it safe for you and the baby?"

Mary smiled wickedly.

"The doctor said that as long as I'm comfortable, it's perfectly fine. And I'm extremely interested in showing you just how I feel about you and this amazing body you have. What are you waiting for?"

Matthew did not need to be told twice and proceeded to show his wife how much he worshipped her body.

After they were satisfied and spent, Mary was laying on Matthew's chest running her fingers through the golden hair on his abdomen.

"So am I really horrid?"

She could not hold back the smile while she said it.

"Only when you want to be, but I love you madly!"

And they both laughed!

Authors note:

I hope you enjoyed this expansion in that highlands bedroom scene 3:9. Maybe one of the reasons for Mary's early labor. All comments welcome.
