So I have had this character it the back of my mind for a long time, but this is the first time that I am writing her story. I hope to flesh her out more in this retelling of the Yugioh series.

Destiny is Strange.
Long ago in Ancient Egypt it is said that magic, monsters and games called the shadow games were played, it is said that only those with the eight Millennium items could control these monsters. But then the god of evil born out of the darkness of people's hearts wanted nothing more than to destroy everything.
It is said that a brave Pharaoh was able to defeat the god and locked the magic in the Millennium items. It is told that the darkness will seek to destroy the world once more and that someone will wield the magic once more to vanquish the god of evil.
But who would that person be?
For Claire this was a normal day like any other day. She was at school hanging out with her friends and her brother who was currently duelling one of her other friends who had gone extremely quiet for a good few minutes which was very unlike him.
"Hey Joey Earth to Joey!" Her brother playfully called to the boy across from him "hey are you in there? It's your turn."
Claire looked over at Joey and giggled slightly long bright blonde hair bouncing with the movement. He was holding his cards in one hand and wiggling his fingers on his other hand over the cards a very intense and slightly ridiculous thinking face on.
Another boy with dark brown hair that was heavily styled to a point came over and wrapped one arm around Joey's neck.
"Awe isn't he cute when he's thinking?" He teasingly said.
"I thought that he was trying to cast a magic spell on his cards." Claire said with a little laugh Joey shot her a playful glare and then closed his eyes and showed his cards to the boy with his arm still over his shoulders.
"Hey Tristan, Yugi trying to teach me how to play duel monsters."
"Duelling monsters?" Tristan asked leaning back slightly.
Joey's expression dropped to a frown and he pushed his friend away with a shout of "duel monsters you nimrod!" And then went back to focusing on the game.
Tristan stepped back to stand on the sidelines a slightly annoyed expression until the last girl in the group spoke up.
"They've been at it for hours, Joey's starting to get the hang of the game but Yugi's like an expert. She explained
"I don't think like comes close to describing. Yugi's talent for this game Téa" Claire said looking over at the other girl, "he is an expert at this, we've dueled nearly every day and still I haven't beaten him."
"Ok Yugi it's time to duel" Joey exclaimed with an air of confidence as he placed his monster down in attack mode. "Pretty good move huh Yugi?" He said revealing his card that had 800 attack points.
Tea continued to explain the rules to Tristan but Claire focused on what Yugi and Joey were doing, her crystal blue gaze moved to look over at her brother wondering what he was going to do next.
"Yep pretty good move" Yugi agreed nodding his head before placing his card down. "but not good enough" Yugi said triumphantly as he revealed his dragon with 1500 attack points.
"What!?" Joey exclaimed before his brown gaze looked at his opponent. "Thanks a lot, a card that powerful totally wipes me out." Frustration clearly in his voice at the fact that he lost again.
"Wow you stink at this game Joey" Tristan said in jest.
"Nah you did fine Joey, you see I just have better cards." Yugi explained with a small smile on his face.
"Well grandpa does own a game shop so we get to see a lot of different cards and people come in to trade with us a lot, and he gives us some cool cards to build our decks with." Claire explained trying to cheer Joey up.
"Oh yeah! Come on then what are we waiting for?" Joey asked as he pushed himself out of his seat with excitement.
"Ok maybe Claire and I can convince grandpa to show us his super rare card that he's got." Yugi also got up picking up his bag and putting it over his shoulder.
A few seats away was a boy sitting straight and reading a book but he looked up slightly when he heard about the rare card. He lowered his book as he began to wonder.
A rare card? It's a small chance but they may have the card that he has been looking for. He decided that he had to find out.
A short walk and they had all arrived at the game shop.
"Grandpa? We're home!" Yugi called out after the shops bell chimed.
"Welcome home you two" he said with a smile" I see that you bought company too" the old man chuckled. The teens walked up to the counter with hopeful looks in their eyes.
"Gramps could you show my friends your super awesome rare card?" Yugi asked trying to keep his excitement contained
"Rare card? My special card?" Grandpa asked and then did a fake thinking face that made Claire smile.
"Please!" Both Yugi and Claire said at the same time dragging the word out and giving the old man a begging look, clasping they're hands together. Joey joined in with a bow and a pretty please.
After a moment longer Grandpa laughed "how can I refuse?" He asked with another chuckle he then leaned down to open the cabinet under the counter to take out a dark wooden box and place that on the counter. "Are you ready?" He asked as he grasped the clasp looking up at the teens for a second with a smile.
With eager nods from all of them he opened the box and pulled out the card. "Here it is" he said as he held up the card. A picture of a white and light blue dragon. "The Blue Eyes White Dragon, so rare, so powerful I never let it leave my hands" he explained pure joy the same as Yugi's on his face as he explained about the card.
While everyone was staring awestruck at this card Tristan eyed it unenthusiastically before plucking it right out of gramps hand.
"Doesn't look all that special to me" he said as he brought the card close to his face to examine it further. But before he could really get a good look Grandpa moved quickly to take it back.
"This card is priceless!" He exclaimed clutching it close to his chest "there are only four of them in all the world."
"Ah speaking of cards" Joey piped up remembering why he wanted to come in the first place "I'm ready to trade!"
"Not for this card!" Grandpa got more defensive moving away from Joey just incase he tried the same thing as Tristan.
"Huh?" Joey looked confused but then realized and shook his head "no I don't mean that card, I mean show me some other cool cards to get me started."
Grandpa then turned around and carefully placed his Blue Eyes in it box but before he could get out the cards available for trade the door chimed signalling that someone has come in making everyone look towards the door.
"Hello can I help you?" Grandpa asked the newcomer.
"If you can't, It certainly wouldn't surprise me." There standing in the doorway was the boy from their class with a metal briefcase in hand.
"Seto kaiba?" Yugi asked slightly taken aback that Kaiba was in their game shop.
"Kaiba?" Joey asked.
"Doesn't he have a big fancy company to run what's he doing down here?" Tristan wondered aloud causing Seto to smirk.
"Not that it is any of your business but I came to see the card." He said Claire glared and stepped forward.
"It is our business considering that this is our grandpa's game shop and it's his card" she said Yugi grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
"Hey sis no need to be like that" Yugi said maybe Kaiba just wanted to duel with them.
"Yeah Claire, if he's into duel monsters maybe we could play together sometime." Joey suggested which caused Seto to chuckle.
"Me duel you?" He asked "I would have more of a challenge playing solitaire."
"What?" Joey asked a little confused about where Kaiba was going with this.
"I am the number one ranked duelist in the country and the favourite to win the Duel monsters championship" he explained smugly "you wouldn't last two minutes in a duel against me."
"Oh! I'm shaking, maybe we should settle this with fists instead of cards." Joey suggested getting himself ready to throw a punch at Kaiba's face. Before he could move Yugi ran in front and put his arms up to stop whatever Joey was planning to do.
"Take it easy there Joey!" He pleaded causing Joey to frown and look down to Yugi.
"But Yugi Kaiba's asking for it."
"Now does this shop have any worthwhile cards or not Kaiba asked before out of the corner of his eye he spotted it head snapping round to get a better look before pushing the group of friends out of the way.
"Hey! Watch it!" Claire snapped but Kaiba ignored her.
"Can it be? The Blue Eyes White Dragon? In a dump like this?" He stared long and hard before confirming that it indeed is the card that he has wanted for a long time.
"Well that's enough window shopping" Grandpa firmly closed the box and pulled it back to himself "now is there anything else I can help you with?"
Kaiba not wanting to back down slammed his briefcase down onto the counter and opened it before spinning it around to show the contents of the inside.
"Listen to me old man give me your Blue Eyes and I'll trade you all of these." The briefcase was full of rare magic and monster cards which Grandpa eyed up quickly before looking up at Seto.
"Ah nice" he said appreciating the large collection of different cards. "But no thanks."
Kaiba scowled more but determined to get the card he desired he pushed further.
"Fine, if you won't trade maybe you'll sell it" he demanded "name your price I can pay anything you ask."
"I'm sure you can young man but this card is worth more than you could ever offer." Grandpa explained. "You see I treasure this card not because of how rare or powerful, but because of what it means to me. An old friend gave me this card so care for it as much as that friend" He continued as he stared at the box before giving Kaiba a stern expression. "So parting with it is out of the question."
Yugi and Claire smiled at their grandpa he truly meant every word he said. Kaiba however was shaking with rage that he had been denied he was never denied.
"You'd feel even if was a common card right grandpa?" Yugi asked.
"Yes you see this card has bonded with my heart." Grandpa explained before he began to put away his card.
"I've heard enough of this crap!" Seto snapped as he closed his briefcase and stormed out of the shop to get in his limo. He didn't know what he was talking about these cards were about power nothing else, he'll get the card that he wants.
A few days later Seto set his plan in motion he was going to show that old man what these cards where really about. He asked his personal assistants who always were there in case negotiations needed a bit more than just talk to make it go his way. He sent them down to Yugi's games shop making sure they did it while Yugi and Claire was at school.
Joey, Tristan and Téa joined Yugi and Claire once again Joey excited to see if anything new had come in that day but when they got there the shop was dark and empty.
"Grandpa!" Claire called out "we're home."
"Hey Gramps!" Joey also called a bit louder than Claire, maybe he didn't hear her.
After a few moments of silence and Mr Muto not appearing both Yugi and Claire stepped in further looking around
"Maybe he went out?" Téa suggested.
"Yeah but why would he leave the door unlocked?" Tristan asked.
Just then the phone rang and Yugi picked it up putting on a cheerful voice he said. "Hello game shop.
"Ah Yugi, perfect" the voice on the other end said which made Yugi gasp."your Grandfather's here visiting but he's not feeling well, why don't you come by my office and...pick him up?" Kaiba then hung up before Yugi could respond. He turned around and dashed out of the door his friends following him. He explained to them what Kaiba had told him on the phone, they had to get to Kaiba corp and fast.
Yugi and his friends arrived at Kaiba Corp and were directed to the elevator and what floor they were needed. When the doors finally opened on the floor they saw Mr Muto laying on the ground both Claire and Yugi dashed over.
"Grandpa!" Yugi exclaimed in worry, "are you ok?" He asked.
"What's Kaiba done?" Claire asked anger boiling in her belly at the thought that he could be seriously hurt.
"Claire, Yugi I failed, I wanted to teach him a lesson about the heart of the cards, but I lost." He said before having to lay back down something had really taken its toll on his body but what?
"How's the old man feeling?" Kaiba asked although he didn't really sound like he cared for the answer.
"Kaiba you scum bag what have you done to him?!" Joey shouted at Kaiba.
"We had a duel that all and we each bet our most valuable card" he said with a shrug "but I guess it was too much stimulation for the old fool."
Claire felt her anger boil hotter he hurt her grandpa and then goes and calls him names? She stood up her fists shaking in rage. She wanted to hit him, how dare he?
"You should be ashamed of yourself!" Téa snapped at him Claire agreed but Kaiba didn't seem to care.
"It was fair, and look at the sweet prize I won" he said holding up the Blue Eyes before ripping the card in half. Making the friends gasp in disbelief.
"Grandpa's most treasured card" Yugi stated in shock.
"Yes the Blue Eyes is a rare and powerful card and this one will never be used against me." Kaiba said uncaring that he just ripped a card that held important meaning.
"My Blue Eyes my treasure" Grandpa moaned softly.
"Grandpa hold on!" Claire came back and put her arm round her grandpa's shoulder. "How could you do such a thing?" Yugi demanded.
"Yugi here take this" grandpa said slowly reaching into his pocket and shakily hold out his deck Yugi looked confused so his grandpa continued "take my deck Yugi, take it and teach him a lesson about the heart of the cards."
"But grandpa you're hurt I've gotta get you to a hospital" Yugi said not wanting to leave his grandpa.
"You're friends can take him to the doctor while you and I duel." Seto said stepping forward.
"Take him Yugi!" Joey called out which made Yugi look round in slight surprise "we'll take care of your grandpa while you deal with this bastard. You can take him Yugi! You're the best player at duel monsters that I know and you have the Millennium Puzzle you can do it!"
"He's right you can do it" Claire said Yugi looked over at her seeing the determined look in her eyes made him confident enough to stand up to Kaiba he nodded and took hold of his grandpa's deck.
"Ok I'll do it." He said before standing up. Téa then got out a marker and told everyone to put their hands together and she'll mark their hands with a special sign. She quickly draw a large smiley face everyone's hands had a different part of the face on it they all looked at her a little confused.
"When Yugi's duelling and he see's this symbol he'll know that he's not alone we're all right there with him!" She explained.
Soon enough they were able to get an ambulance to Kaiba Corp, Joey, Claire, Tristan and Téa got Grandpa outside and into the ambulance.
"Téa I'm gonna stay here and cheer Yugi on" Claire said téa nodded in understanding and then Claire ran back into the building.
"Joey Tristan and I can take care of Yugi's grandpa why don't you also go cheer him on and keep Claire's spirit up." Téa suggested which Joey agreed to and joined Claire in the elevator.
With Kaiba and Yugi they went into a large glass box in the centre of the stadium room, the box had a simple looking table in the middle of it. Sitting down and shuffling their decks Kaiba began to talk.
"I designed this duel cube myself impressive wouldn't you say? I think that you will agree it adds a bit more life to the game." He vaguely explained. "We each start with 2000 life points whoever reachs zero first losses, are you ready to lose?" Kaiba mocked.
"I will not lose to you Kaiba" Yugi exclaimed before his Millennium Puzzle flashed brightly a second later the light died down and Yugi had changed somehow his hair was more dramatic with three gold lighting bolts going through his hair and a more confident air surrounded him as he stared Kaiba down.
Kaiba knew something had changed but what, how and why? Nevertheless the Duel started and Kaiba made the first move playing Hitosu-me Giant in attack mode. A green one eyed giant materialized behind Kaiba looking like a real monster Yugi was taken aback by the sight of it.
"Are you surprised? I this is the next stage for duel monsters. These virtual simulators make life like holograms of every duel monster" Kaiba said with a smirk at Yugi's expression.
"So this is how you beat my grandpa, well now it's my turn" Yugi drew a card took a quick glance at it and announced "I call upon the Winged Dragon Guardian of the Fortress" A light blue dragon appeared behind Yugi roaring and giving a flap of its mighty wings.
Joey and Claire both entered the massive stadium to see a table with a large box in the large box was Yugi, Kaiba and two huge monsters towering over the both of them.
"Woah look Claire real monsters real frigging monsters!" Joey exclaimed in shock his brown eyes widened at the sight. Claire was also taken aback, this is what happened to Grandpa? No wonder he was so shaken up.
"Go Winged Dragon Fireball attack!" Yugi commanded which the dragon did and the Hitosu-me Giant was destroyed lowering Kaiba's life points to 1800.
"Big brother!" A small boy with long black hair called as he came into the room. "Are you alright?"
"Alright go Yugi!" Cheered Joey.
"Nice move Yugi it keep going" Claire called out.
"Well played Yugi, for a beginner, but how will you deal with this?" Asked Kaiba still calm and cool as he set his next card down in attack mode. A lanky clown with an oversize hat appeared with a laugh.
"Sagi the dark clown?" Yugi questioned "but that card only has 600 attack points" Yugi was wondering what Kaiba was planning.
"It's true that your dragon is stronger with 1400 attack points and my Dark Clowns is only 600 but when combined with this." Kaiba then set another card down behind his Dark Clown but kept it covered with his hand for a moment.
"A magic card" Yugi gasped in realisation of course that's what he was doing.
"Exactly the negative energy generator magic card it multiplies my monsters attack power by three." Sagi grow slightly and had purple energy zapping around him, his attack points were now 1800 which was more than enough to defeat Yugi's monster. "Now Sagi attack with Dark Light."
Yugi's monster was easily destroyed by the purple ball that was thrown at it dropping Yugi's life points to 1600.
"As you can see combining cards can be very effective" Kaiba boasted with a small laugh.
Yugi was starting to see how good Kaiba was at this, but he couldn't give up his Grandpa was counting on him he knew there would be something in this deck that could beat that clown. Yugi drew his card, wasn't something he could use it was too weak and it was a picture of a leg. No good so he put down a different monster in defence so he didn't lose any life points.
The next couple of turns Yugi had to stay on the defensive getting slightly frustrated that as of yet nothing he pulled was strong enough to beat Kaiba's monster.
"Come on Yugi!" Joey banged his fists on the railing Infront of him. "Claire! There's gotta be something he can do."
"Unfortunately Joey until he either pulls a card stronger than Kaiba's clown or he gets a magic card to boast the attack of one of his own.
"You're not doing any better than the old man did Yugi" Kaiba taunted "your deck is just as weak as your Grandfather."
"My Grandpa is a great man and a better duelist than you'll ever be!" Yugi countered Kaiba's insult. "He trusted me with his cards and I can feel his heart in this deck." Yugi continued "I have faith in his deck and I doubt that you have that kind of faith in your deck Kaiba."
He then drew his next card and finally at last something that could stop the Dark Clown.
"My faith rewards me with Gaia the Fierce Knight!" A large purple horse with a heavily armoured man who was wielding two massive lances reared up behind Yugi before attacking the clown, lowering Kaiba's life points down to 1300.
"Alright Kaiba, your move" Yugi said his arms crossed as he stared at Kaiba he found this duel exciting.
"This duel will be over sooner than you think" Kaiba replied before drawing his next card "I call upon the Blue Eyes White Dragon!" Kaiba announced a bright white and pale blue dragon appeared behind Kaiba spreading its large wings and roaring at Yugi.
"What? But we all saw Kaiba rip that card in half!" Joey shouted in confusion.
"Don't forget there's three other Blue Eyes cards, that's why he ripped it up he already had one, it's a beautiful dragon, in a terrifying way" Claire said as she stared at the dragon always wanting to know what it would look like if real.
"Claire!" Joey exclaimed in annoyance at his friend "Stop day dreaming about the dragon and focus! That thing has gotta be stronger than Yugi's Knight." Claire gasped slightly as if coming out of a trance she shook her head to clear her head.
"Yes it is! Oh no Yugi's in big trouble." Claire exclaimed how was Yugi going to come out of this jam?
"Surprised? Your Grandpa's not the only one with a Blue Eyes." Kaiba said a smug smile spreading across his face. "Now Blue Eyes attack with White Lightning."
The dragon opened it's mouth wide and a white and blue stream of energy formed and shot at the Knight engulfing it in the bright light, when the light died down Yugi's Knight was gone and his life points dropped to 900 life points.
"Your knight is destroyed, faith or no faith you will fall to my superior monsters Yugi, power is what this game is all about you fool." Kaiba was being pretty smug he was sure he had this duel in the bag.
More turns past with Yugi once again on the defensive to spare his life points.
"There's not a monster in your deck that can stand up to my Blue Eyes. Let alone two of them" he said as he showed Yugi his second Blue Eyes before placing it on the field too." Now Kaiba had two dragons one either side of him snarling at Yugi. "Why don't you just admit defeat Yugi?"
Yugi knew he couldn't give up he glared at Kaiba refusing to give in he will win.
"I can't give up, Grandpa's counting on me, I won't give in" he then drew his next card which gave him some relief as he could hold the Blue Eyes White Dragons off for a bit with this.
"Swords of Revealing Light!" You called out as he played the card bright swords came down going between the dragons and pinning them down.
"So you delayed you defeat for three turns, it won't do you much good." Kaiba said.
Yugi thought that Kaiba was right as he looked at his hand he had three cards that were similar but they were pieces what could he do with a bunch of pieces? And then he remembered something.
Yugi and Claire were both listening intently to their grandpa.
"Now there is one monster, he so powerful that he is an unstoppable force. But because he is so powerful he had to be split into five pieces. You have to collect all of the pieces and put them in their proper place." Grandpa was explaining to them.
"Like Yugi's puzzle!" Claire exclaimed with a giggle as she pointed to Yugi's Millennium Puzzle.
"Yes like Yugi's puzzle but it is so rare and difficult to assemble all five pieces in your hand that no one has been able to summon it." He continued to explain.
Yugi came out of the memory and he had to think what monster needs five cards to be summoned. It then hit him he knew what monster it was, he needed two more pieces but could he draw them in time?
"Quit staling Yugi! Or you will forfeit the match!" Kaiba Was not amused waiting for Yugi to take his turn.
"I never forfeit!" Yugi countered back. Drawing his next card he found it was the other arm to the puzzle only one more and he could win. Yugi placed a card in Defence mode hoping to build a small defence once the dragons where free.
"Draw any card you like it won't change a thing. While my dragons can't attack my new monster can!" Kaiba summoned a short and stocky warrior monster. "Judge Man attack his face down monster!"
The Judge Man slammed his mace down onto Yugi's card sending it to the graveyard.
It was Yugi's turn once more and he summoned the dark magician an man with electric blue robes with magenta lining the armour and a matching staff appeared standing behind Yugi a stern expression on its face.
"Dark Magician, attack" the dark magician held his hand up and the judge Man shattered like glass into a thousand tiny pieces. "Your Judge Man falls" Yugi exclaimed as Kaiba's life points went down to
1000.
"A sacrifice that doesn't even faze me, and although my dragons are unable to move my next card is. The third Blue Eyes White Dragon!" Kaiba shouted as the dragon appeared. "I am now the only duelist in the world that holds all the Blue Eyes White Dragon cards!" He laughed as his final dragon appeared. Kaiba took no time in destroying Yugi's Dark Magician dropping his life points to a mere 400.
"This can't be over, come on Yugi there has to be a way!" Claire cried desperately she didn't want to see Yugi lose he's never lost.
Yugi's only hope was to assemble Exodia he only needed one more card, but could he draw it? Yugi started to lose focus slightly worried about drawing the card, it then felt like the deck moved away from him. But the spirit encouraged him on he had to concentrate and believe in the heart of the cards like his Grandpa taught him to he then spotted the friendship symbol on his hands as saw his friends with their hands over his deck. They believed in him, he could do this. Finally drawing he looked at it.
"Draw your last pathetic card so I can end this Yugi" Kaiba said the Duel certainly was his no matter what card he's got.
"My Grandpa's deck has no pathetic cards Kaiba." Yugi said a confident smirk on his face. "But it does contain the unstoppable Exodia!"
"What? It's not possible!" Kaiba shouted in disbelief.
"I have assembled all five special cards, all five pieces of the puzzle!" Yugi ignored Kaiba as a large hulking figure with broken chains on it's wrists appeared out of a pentagram shape. And swiftly destroying all of Kaiba's dragons and ending the Duel.
"No way, my brother never loses" the young boy exclaimed in shock not believing his eyes his brother always won.
"Yes we'll done Yugi!" Claire cheered releasing a long breath that she didn't realise that she was holding. Joey cheered with her happy that his friend took on Kaiba.
"How? I don't understand how did a nobody like you beat me?" Kaiba asked in disbelief.
"You play for power Kaiba and that why you lost." Yugi explained. "But if you truly want to know then open your mind!" Yugi shouted using the power of his Millennium Puzzle he crushed the darkness in Kaiba's heart and mind. "There maybe now you will begin to see." Yugi said strangely gently after all of the shouting.
Later that night one of Kaiba's executives made a phone call.
"Yes that's right, his name was Yugi Muto."
The news was then sent to man called Pegasus who was drinking wine a strange gold coloured flashed quickly as he moved his head intrigued by the news, he would have to look into this promising young lad.
Well that's episode one done this took me about two days rewatching the episode and typing it all out it's been fun and tiring.
Claire's backstory will come a little later on and the powers of the Millennium Bracelet.
