It was the night of the rehearsal dinner and Matt had just gotten in from

Oregon a few hours ago. He was tried and not at all ready to deal with the mess that was his relationship with Brett. Things between them had been rough for a while but he didn't feel right ending it over the phone and he also didn't want to ruin his best friend's wedding weekend, especially since it was assumed that she was the maid of honour to his best man. It meant they had to be civil for this weekend and then hopefully once the wedding was over he could end it face to face.

Matt wasn't at all surprised to find the loft a complete and total disaster when he arrived. He had hoped to be in Chicago the week leading up to the wedding to help with last-minute details, but his work schedule and the boy's schedule simply wouldn't allow it.

"Severide? Are you in here somewhere?" Matt called from the door before closing it behind him and dropping his bag.

"Spare room." He heard a voice calling and decided to follow it, knowing it was either Kelly or Stella.

Matt walked over and found Kelly and Stella putting together what he could only assume were gift bags. "So how's it going?" Matt asked.

Kelly and Stella both looked up and smiled at seeing their friend walk into the room. "Hey, long time no see. How was the flight?" Stella asked.

"Not bad, it's a flight. How are things going over here? I feel terrible I couldn't be more helpful in the planning process."

"Don't worry, you aren't the only person in the bridal party that couldn't be here to help." Kelly said.

Matt wanted to ask who else they were talking about, assuming that most of the bridal party was from the firehouse, but thought better of it, knowing it could possibly be Katy or some other distant relative of either of them.

"Alright while I'm here now so what can I do?"

"We're basically done. Once we pack these Stella's just gotta pack her stuff for tomorrow and then we'll head out for the rehearsal."

"Sounds good, just tell me what to do."

The three friends got to packing the last of the gift bags while catching up on all the missed time, sharing stories from their respective firehouse and daily life before it was time for them to leave for the rehearsal.

The rehearsal had gone well, Matt had been both surprised and a little happy when he learned that the maid of honour hadn't been able to make it. It meant he was able to better avoid Brett and whatever fallout was about to happen. He couldn't help but wonder who Stella's maid of honour was, but the only information he had been able to get out of either the bride or groom was that she was who Stella was staying with tonight since she couldn't stay in the loft with Kelly. If he thought hard about it, he'd realize how secretive they were both being about who the maid of honour was, considering not a single person knew who it was but he was having too good a time to really think about it.

As the night went on, the party started to die out until it was just the three former roommates left. Everyone had had a great time, Matt had enjoyed finally being able to catch up with all his former colleagues and friends. He hadn't realized just how much he had missed everyone at 51 until he had the chance to talk to everyone face to face instead of just simple phone calls. His time in Oregon was coming to an end but he didn't know how he felt about just leaving the boys alone in a separate state, even with them both being in college and legally adults.

Now wasn't the time for him to contemplate that though, he was here to watch his best friend marry the love of his life. This weekend was about Kelly and Stella, and Matt could worry about his future later. As everyone piled into their Ubers, he couldn't wait to see his best friends get married tomorrow.

The groomsmen were in their room and the bridesmaid's in there's, making Matt surprised that when he simply stepped out for air and was cornered by Brett.

"Hey." She called as she walked up to Matt.

"Hey." He said hesitantly, not in the proper headspace to handle any conversation with her.

"How are you holding up?"

"Good. Excited to get this show on the road. Kelly and Stella have been waiting for this moment for a while and I'm happy for them."

"That's not what I meant."

"Look, I don't want to do this right now. Can we just get through the wedding and deal with this later?"

"I meant about who the maid of honour is, but that's good to know too."

"What are you talking about?"

"You mean you still don't know."

"Know what Brett."

"You know what, never mind. I gotta get back inside. I'll see you later Casey." And with that Brett turned around and walked back inside leaving Matt alone outside with his thoughts.

Before he could get too caught up in what Brett had meant, he got a text from Kelly that they were starting soon and headed back inside.

Not too long after he returned, it was time to start the wedding. He took his place in the possession line, waiting to see who he would be walking down with. Once Kelly walked through the doors with his mom on his side, the side doors opened and out came Stella, looking beautiful in her vintage off-white wedding dress. Following behind Stella, helping to straighten out her dress was the last person Matt had expected to see. He froze, unable to wrap his head around who this secret maid of honour was until they finally made eye contact.

The mystery woman looked up at Matt and smiled softly at him, a smile he immediately returned before finally finding his voice. "Gabby?"
