There are many ways to introduce the topic of the Federation's Downfall. Some historians would even be confused over the right date to select to highlight when the 'Hopeful Lie' perished. But to present a proper view of the situation, a premise is needed:

The Atlantic Federation, just like the Empire, had forged itself through a strong and cohesive ideal. Freedom through Democracy. The creation of a Federation was based on the notion of more reforms for Welfare and Healthcare. And such was the initial path of the new super-state.

The founders had vision, but they lacked the one thing that would ultimately undermine them through the EWWI and the EWW2- the capacity to have a 'safeguard' to freedom. The old guard of the Federation failed to prepare a reasonably big budget to field an appropriate amount of troops.

And when war came to it, the old guard was dashed away and the 'Victory Clique' (a group of like-minded elements defined from an early speech of EWWI during the formation of the Delcassé Coalition) seemed less concerned about reform, and more intrigued by the need to 'cover their bases'.

After all, the intervention of the United States of Vinland and the United Kingdom of Edinburgh offered the means to keep up and even potentially beat the Empire. To their surprise and dismay, the Federation crumbled under the heavy hammering of the first year of the war. And Nemets Raid would lead to the closure to the conflict in favor of the Empire.

With the blood of millions of dead soldiers and the burden of carrying through the surrender of various lands and the autonomy of 'pro-peace nations', the Federation's life was cut short. From Freedom through Democracy, to the 'Hopeful Lie'.

The advances of Vinland to resume the war once the first rebellions erupted within the Empire were met with initial silence followed by an alarming growth of distress passing through the United Kingdom of Edinburgh. Troops were evacuated rapidly as signs of nationalist revolts tore into the Democratic Regimes once making up the united Federation.

From the early days of October to the late days of December, rebellions burned through the entire Federation.

The first country to 'break free' was the Soissons National Republic which now bordered with Iberica. Led by a Veterans' Government that campaigned upon the extreme conscription laws levied on the country, the Junta was quick to establish a formidable force ready to defend the big borders it occupied.

This was but the first domino, with two more countries following into this initiative, the Skaaneland Commune that was conceived through a Mackasian Communist Coup, and the Flandish Democratic Republic which followed a soft line compared to the Mackasian Ideology. Both countries further deprived the remaining reserves available to the dying Federation, but it was during the days of November that the rest of the disaster followed.

The Swaissen Confederation and the Batten Union had both survived the war unscathed, and were yet worried of the spreading rebellion- in a moment of united front, the two countries signed out of the Federation to form the 'League of Neutral Regions' as a form of alliance against radicalism.

With the corridor leading to Soissons 'sealed shut', the Atlantic Federation was no more and the countries of Beneluxe and Bretagne used their Royal Militias to secure former territories once annexed to the remaining country within the Federation.

If the Lorrenian Republic had felt a major loser as the forefront of the Federation, the downfall of the institution left it depleted, burning, and stricken with various movements trying to destabilize it. By the end of the collapse, around January and February, the map had horribly changed for the Federation.

But as the new countries established themselves as the new normality within the region, the Lorrenian Republic faced its greated trouble yet.

With the Communists gaining support through those that had suffered the most in the industrial drain, the military behaving reluctantly in suppressing rebellions, the Monarchists regaining momentum after decades of failures and, worst of all, the establishment of a Anarcho-Revanchist movement led by Veterans such as Alphonse Herriot, Henri Gauche, and Hector Hamonic, the Age of Troubles was far from over within the Republic.

Meanwhile, as the world crumbled around it, Gallia stood through the storm a stronger nation. And one ready for expansion.

Thus the Europa-plosion begins!

REVIEW Q&A!

Lord of Steel: The answer will come out as soon as the chapter about the Empire-plosion comes out. Let's just say that I have taken some inspirations with some HOI4 mods in regard to the collapse of the Empire and... one of these scattered states are looking for Maximillian, and they may need to verify the clock once in a while.
