Ringing in the New Year
Part 1: Pregnant
December 31, 2018 – Casey-Severide Loft
It still felt surreal to her. All the news that she's learned lately, and all of the adventures that are about the start now that Matt's agreed to move with her to Puerto Rico. Hell, she can barely believe it herself; it's just something special that he's doing for her, so that they can save their marriage. She just hopes that the way she feels right now doesn't do anything to hurt the progress they made. And just how much she feel? Well, she feels nauseous right now; and not just any type of nauseous, but in a way that reminded her of how she felt when she was 'pregnant' in the past (even though she wasn't pregnant. So, that's precisely why she was taking her time in bed after what she did today. And just what might she have done today? Well, she went to the hospital. And don't worry, she's fine. She just hopes that her husband can hear her out and not make her get all stressed out. The reason? She can't get stressed out right now, not when she needs to take it easy for her sake…and the sake of their baby. And yes, you just read that right. For their baby's sake.
But hey, at least they don't have to worry about an aneurysm anymore. The reason? Well, that's something else that surprised the both of them. Recently, they decided that they wanted to get a second opinion when it came to her aneurysm (ahead of them moving to Puerto Rico for the sake of their marriage); and they were surprised to learn that she no longer (hell, maybe never even) had an aneurysm. And that was music to her ears, especially since she's been suspicious about the way she's feeling for a few days; but now, it was confirm. It was confirmed by a hospital test and an ultrasound. According to the hospital, she was currently four weeks pregnant with her and her husband's first child; a child that they still plan on raising in the sun, regardless of the fact that she no longer had an aneurysm. They just haven't told all of their friends yet, nor has she told Matt that she's pregnant. But, that's precisely what she plans on doing now that he was in here and looking quite handsome in that jacket of his. Meanwhile, he was admiring her dress.
That tight dress that she was wearing for him tonight, and which he most certainly wants to take off later. "I hope you know that I'm going to be the one taking off that dress Ms. Casey, because I want to celebrate this news we got today." Smiling, Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that. After all, he thinks that he has to get her pregnant. "Well, I can see why that's the case. I mean, we were wrong a couple months ago." Matt agreed with his beautiful wife as he made his way over to her, smirking as he placed his hands on her hips the moment he was standing in front of her, while also tugging her body against his chest and wrapping his arms around her. Meanwhile, Gabby put her hands on his arms and smiled as she leaned up and kissed her amazing husband softly. "I don't want to hear it." Matt sighed, well aware of what she was talking about. "I know, but I still mean it. I should've never yelled at you like that." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "Well, you're forgiven, especially since you're moving with me to Puerto Rico."
Matt agreed with Gabby, before speaking to her in Spanish. "No te preocupes, he estatdo trabajando en mi Espanol." (Don't worry, I've been working on my Spanish). Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, smiling as he most certainly has. So much so, that he deserves a kiss for doing that, which is precisely what she gave him. She kissed him softly as they held each other close. "So, I've been meaning to talk to you after our latest doctor's appointment, as there was a reason why I actually wanted to move it up." Placing his hand on the side of her neck, Matt agreed with his wife. "Ah yes, I was wondering why that was the case." Gabby took a breath as she looked at Matt, before smiling at him. "Well, you remember how you went to get your shots before we moved to Puerto Rico? And then I went down to Emergency so that I could wait for you and say hi to Maggie?" Matt agreed with his wife, smiling at the woman he loves. "Yes, of course I have." Gabby smiled as she moved to get out of Matt's arms, so that she could get him something.
However, her doing that also confused him. "Hey, where are you going? You already look great for the party at the bar." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that. "By the way, I'm going to be watching you and Severide. I promised Stella that you aren't going to get her boyfriend drunk when he has to work tomorrow." Matt smirked as he placed his hands on his hips. "God, I am so glad that I already resigned from the CFD and transferred to the Puerto Rico Fire Academy." Turning her head, Gabby was surprised. "You got the job?" Matt nodded, smiling at his wife. "I got the job." Gabby just smiled as she heard Matt say that. "God, talk about a lot of good news recently." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware of the fact that they were getting a lot of good news; including the news that she's about to give her husband. "Ok. Well, back to the thing about how I went down to the emergency room…because I didn't." Matt just looked at his wife as she said that. "Excuse me? Then, where did you go?" Gabby smirked at Matt.
After all, she loves where she went. "Well, I needed to check something." Matt sighed. "Gabby, I promise that I trust this doctor. You don't need to double check again." Gabby shook her head, smiling at Matt. "I have something for you. Call it a late Christmas gift." Matt was still confused, but just agreed with his wife. "Ok?" Gabby then smiled as she looked at their bed. "Sit down on the bed." Matt nodded, before doing just that for the woman he loves. He sat down on their bed, while also looking at the woman he loves as she walked over to their bed. "Well, that's not what I needed to double check. I already know that I don't have an aneurysm." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, smiling at her. "Then, what did you need to check." Giving Matt an envelope, Gabby smiled at him. "Open it." Matt was confused, but just did as he was told again; only to see that it was a picture, an ultrasound. "I was just making sure that it wasn't ectopic." Turning his head, Matt was absolutely shocked. "NO!" Gabby smiled, agreeing with her husband.
After which, she got up and moved close to him; sitting in his lap, she smirked due to the fact that this is everything that they both want. That they've both wanted for years. So much so, that she already knows that Matt is happy and believes her. I mean, how can he not believe her when she wouldn't joke about this; especially when it's his biggest dream. "Shut up! No way!" Gabby laughed as she grabbed the back of Matt's head, before tugging his lips against hers due to the fact that she's very happy. "I just want you to know that this changes nothing when it comes to our plans." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, as that most certainly is the truth. He was moving with her to Puerto Rico, so that he can be with her and their child. "Hey, of course I'm moving with you to Puerto Rico; that way, I can be with you and our child." Wrapping his arms around Gabby, Matt smirked as he held her close and kissed her softly. "We're having a baby." Gabby just smiled as she heard Matt tell her that. "I'm making you a dad, forever. It's my dream come true!"
Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, smirking as he let her down and stepped close to her. "Wait, how far along are you?" Gabby smiled as Matt asked her that question. "I'm four weeks." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that. "Wait, does that mean that…" Gabby looked down. "I don't know, do we think that it's going to stick?" Matt smiled as he put his hand on the side of her face, while also leaning in and kissing his wife softly. "If it doesn't, then we just try again. We have no reason not to try again." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that most certainly is the truth. "Big family?" Matt nodded, agreeing with his wife as he stepped close to her; after which, he leaned in to kiss her until they were disturbed. "Oh, sorry." Turning their heads, Matt, and Gabby both saw Stella there. "Ok. I don't mean to pry, but what's this about big family? Are you guys going to try and have a baby after the recent news you got?" Matt bit his lip. "I may have told Severide, since he knew everything anyways." Gabby laughed, agreeing with Matt.
After which, he got being her and wrapped his arms around her, while also keeping his hands on her stomach. "Well, we actually have some more news." Bending down, Matt smiled. "We're telling people in person? Or are we waiting?" Gabby just looked up at her husband. "You just made it so that we HAVE to tell her now, you fool! She's going to want to know what in the world you're talking about!" Stella laughed. "Oh, yes I am. Oh, by the way. I already spoke to Herrmann on shift, and we agreed that we would let you guys pick what we do with Sylvie because of what you want. Do you want her there on your last night?" Matt sighed as he kissed the side of Gabby's head. "How about we tell her the good news? Then, we can talk to about that?" Turning her head, Gabby looked up at Matt. "Oh, hell now. She's banned, because I don't want her stressing me out while I'M PREGNANT!" Stella was shocked as she thought she was dreaming. "Sorry, did I just hear you say that you're pregnant!" Gabby laughed, smiling as she's pregnant with their first baby.
After which, Stella made her way over to her and smiled as she hugged her friend. "Congratulations. God, I hate you!" Gabby was confused. "Excuse me?" Stella looked at Gabby. "You're pregnant and moving away." Matt sighed as he looked at Stella. "I know. But, it's for the best. It's for our marriage. And, with regards to Sylvie…we're going to be banning her from the party. I want Gabby to relax tonight and just have one more night of fun before we move to Puerto Rico." Moving his hand to Gabby's stomach, Matt smiled as he was happy. "By the way, I just learned who's taking over Truck 81 if you want to know." Stella agreed. "Who is it?" Matt smiled. "Well first, I want to say that we're banning her because she flirted with me while I was married and for what she did to Gabby." Stella and Gabby both agreed. "And for Truck 81, I just learned that your new Lieutenant's name is Jason Pelham. He's a nice guy, met him once at a barbecue for Captains and Lieutenants." That's when Matt heard Kelly. "Wait, Pelham's taking over Truck 81?" Matt agreed.
Meanwhile, Stella turned to look at Kelly. "Oh, by the way. You call us if you guys ever decide to get married! I'm your best man." Kelly agreed with Matt as he said that, as there's nobody he'd rather have as his best man. "And I'm the godfather." Matt was about to say yes to that, when Gabby just said no. "OVER MY DEAD BODY!" Turning their heads, Matt and Kelly were both confused as they heard Gabby say that. "Antonio!" Matt then realized that, nodding. "Yeah, that makes sense." Looking at his best friend, Kelly was shocked. "Seriously? You're that weak!" Matt just looked at Kelly. "Best friend vs. PREGNANT wife who is going to be very hormonal." Gabby just looked at Matt as he said that, as did Stella. "Seriously Matt? Your wife is a Latina, and she's pregnant and hormonal. Do you really want to make her mad?" Gabby just shook her head as she made her way over to the door so that she can be with her best friend, but only after she spoke to Kelly. "You keep my husband sober, or else you don't get to come visit us when you're in a fight with Stella!"
Matt just put a stop to that. "Oh, hell no! He isn't coming if he's in a fight with Stella, because that'll be hell!" Turning their heads, Gabby and Kelly were both confused. "What did you just say?" Matt nodded as he put his hands on his hips. "I'm not getting stuck in between my wife and my best friend, not when my wife is pregnant with the child of my dreams! I mean, I've been waiting for over seven years to be a father!" Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that, before making her way over to her husband; after which, she grabbed his jacket and smiled as she tugged him close to her. After which, she leaned in and kissed her husband softly. "I love you." Matt agreed with his wife. "By the way Kelly, guess who just became the newest instructor at the Puerto Rico Fire Academy?" Kelly agreed with his best friend as he said that. "Congratulations." Going to hug him, Kelly smiled. "Of course, both on the baby and the new job." Kelly then made his way over to Gabby and smiled as he went to hug the woman he considers to be a sister.
After which, he kissed her cheek. "Shay would be so happy for you." Gabby agreed with Kelly as he said that, while hugging him. "I know. By the way, I already know what name we're using if we're having a boy and you're not going to say a word if we do." Matt just looked at his wife as she said that. "AMC?" Gabby smiled, nodding. "Yes." Kelly was just confused as he heard Matt say 'AMC' as he didn't know what the initials stood for. "What name goes with the initials AMC?" Matt smirked. "Andrew Matthew Casey." Kelly just looked at Matt as he said that. "Fuck you!" Matt laughed as he heard Kelly say that. "Sorry, but I only fuck my wife…and I expect you guys not to say a word, as I am going to be celebrating with her tonight." Gabby smirked as Matt said that, as that most certainly is the truth. A truth that Stella already knew as she hugged her best friend. "Congratulations again Gabby." Stella then made her way over to Matt. "Congratulations to you too Matt. I know this is a dream come true for you." Matt agreed with Stella, smiling.
After which, he whispered in her ear. "I want you to take the Lieutenant's exam." Stella was shocked as she heard Matt tell her that he wants her to take the Lieutenant's exam. "Really?" Matt nodded, smiling at her. "Stella, you're basically my #2 all the time. I want you to take over Truck when the time is right. And you call me if Kelly here doesn't help you study for the exam!" Kelly laughed, agreeing with Matt as he said that. "I promise. Now, are you guys going to be coming back anytime soon after the new year?" Gabby looked at Matt. "Maybe not until after we have the baby." Matt agreed with Gabby, well aware that was the case. Plus, he's going to be busy. "I have a job already." Stella looked at Matt. "And Gabby's okay with you working fires in Puerto Rico?" Matt laughed. "Oh, I am not working fires in Puerto Rico; other than fake, controlled fires." Gabby looked at her husband as he said that, before realizing what he was talking about; he was talking about the fire academy. "Oh, and during the wildfire season." Gabby just glared at Matt.
After which, she turned to look at Kelly and Stella. "A moment alone with my husband?" Kelly and Stella both agreed, clearly able to see that Gabby really does need some time alone with her husband right now. After which, she turned her head and looked at Matt.
"What's this about you working during the wildfire season?"
Matt sighed when Gabby asked him what this was when it came to working during wildfire season, as he just learned about it himself. "I swear, I just learned about it too." Gabby didn't believe him. "Matthew…" Matt sighed as he walked up to Gabby. "They need all the help they can get." Wrapping her arms around Matt, Gabby cuddled up to him. "Matt, we're having a baby. Wildfire season starts soon. I don't know if I want you in wildfires when…" Matt then realized why Gabby was scared. "Oh, you thought that I was working the actual wildfires? Oh, I'm sorry baby. No, that's not what I meant when I said wildfire season." Gabby was confused as she looked at Matt. "What do you mean then?" Matt sighed as he wrapped his arms around Gabby. "I'm on the list to help out in town if firehouses have to send teams to help with the wildfires. I'm the backup for the firefighters who go to the wildfires, but I stay in town. I promise, I'm not on those teams. That's a whole different set of training that I'd have to go through. Hell, I have to go through the academy."
Gabby agreed with Matt, as that made sense. "Oh, by the way. I already spoke to the charity. They're fine with me working in town too. We can do construction in town, rather than rescuing. And, I already told them that we want our own place for us and the baby." Matt smiled, as he loves the sound of that. "I'm just glad we still have a few days before we leave." Gabby agreed with her husband as she smiled at him. "We still need to figure that out. Just as long as we're back by…" Matt smiled. "January 7th. Gabby looked at Matt. "My contract starts then. I'm only a substitute instructor for a couple months, so my schedule might be here and there for a while. But, I already got my pension settled with the CFD as I am retiring as I captain, which gives me a bunch of money. Add in that the charity pays you with living expenses and health coverage. And then, I can go to do substitute instructing and stuff like that. I just…I want to make sure that we have enough money for our lives, which is even more important now that we have this little one on the way."
Gabby agreed with matt as he told her that, well aware that was the case as she got close to him. After which, she leaned in and kissed him softly. "Just promise me that you're going to be safe, as Antonio works on the Puerto Rico team now." Matt agreed with Gabby, before placing his hand on the side of her face and moving to kiss her again; that was, until he realized something. "Does he live with us?" Gabby bit her lip. "God, I can't wait to get to the bar." Tugging Matt away, Gabby was ready to go out and have fun. However, she wasn't getting out of answering his question that easily. "Gabby, does you brother live with us?" Gabby sighed as she turned around and looked at her (loving) husband. "Okay, he does. But, it was because I was alone before. He lived with me to keep me safe, and now he likes it. Plus, don't you like the idea of my brother being with me and the baby while you go out and work?" Matt sighed as he stepped close to Gabby, while placing his hand on her neck and leaning in to kiss her softly. "God, I love you so much."
Gabby smiled as she heard Matt tell her that, well aware that he loves her. "I love you too, and I promise that you'll love Antonio living with us. It means that you can ask him questions about pregnancy and stuff." Matt agreed with his wife. "Hey, at least you don't have an aneurysm, which means that you can give me both a son and a daughter." Gabby smiled, as that was something she was very excited for. Well, that, and for later tonight. "Listen, I want to get out of here so that we can come back for our plans later." Matt agreed with his wife, as he wanted the same thing. He wants to get out of here, so that he and Gabby can go have fun with each other; before they come back and have intimate fun with each ither. Intimate fun which they'll both very much enjoy.
Walking outside with Gabby, Stella, and Severide; Matt smiled as he held his wife's hand with their fingers intertwined, kissing the back of her head as they were both extremely happy. Happy that they were having a baby. However, what Matt wasn't happy about was that Severide thought he was going to be driving them. "I knew you had my keys." Turning to look at Matt, Kelly smirked. "Hey, you gave me your truck since you're moving." Matt shook his head as he walked up to him, before grabbing the car keys. "Not happening." Kelly just held on to the keys. "It's my truck now man, let go." Gabby sighed as she looked at her husband. "Matt, let him drive the truck." Turning to look at Gabby, Matt sighed. "I'm already the Designated Driver because you're pregnant. I don't drink when you're pregnant. Solidarity." Gabby laughed as she heard Matt say that. "Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts." Matt smiled. "It lasted the entir…" Placing her hands on her hips, Gabby glared at him. "You want to try that again? Or do you not want to be naked at midnight?"
Matt just shut up when Gabby said that, before making his way over to his wife; after which, he wrapped his arms around her and brought her body against his chest. Meanwhile, Gabby put her hands on his arms and smiled as she kissed him softly. And damn did his lips feel good on hers. "I love you, but you need to calm down." Matt agreed with his wife as she told him that, well aware that was the case. After which, he grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers. "I promise, solidary both for the pregnancy and for your brother." Realizing that, Gabby agreed due to the fact that her brother might be there. "Right, we're all flying to Puerto Rico together." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Listen, enough with all of this. I want to get out of here and go to the bar so that we can tell everybody that I'm pregnant." Matt agreed with Gabby. "Want to do it from where you told me last time?" Gabby laughed as she made her way over to the pickup, before getting in the back with her husband.
After all, that's precisely where she wants to be sitting as Kelly drove them to the bar; in the back, where they're holding each other close with their fingers intertwined. It's just the best place for them to sit, due to the fact that it allows her to relax as much as she possibly can. And right now, that's exactly what she needs to do. Well, as much as she can of course. There's no amount of stress that you can truly predict due to the fact that stress is unpredictable, unlike Matt's loyalty to Gabby, which has always been unwavering.
Driving his girlfriend and their friends to the bar, Kelly Severide couldn't help but smile due to the fact that he loved the sight he had in the mirror behind him as it was the sight of his best friend madly in love with his wife. The wife he knows he's missed for a long time and is so glad that they're reunited. And even better, they're having a baby. "So, what gender are you guys thinking?" Matt smiled as he wrapped his arm around Gabby while they held each other close. "I think we're going to have a girl." Turning her head, Gabby was surprised. "Why a girl? I thought you wanted a son to carry on your last name." Matt smirked. "Well, you don't have an aneurysm. So, we can try for a boy again later." Gabby smirked as Matt reminded her of that fact, as it was the truth. They don't need to stop after they have this baby, due to the fact that Gabby doesn't have an aneurysm. "So, did you guys jump for joy at the news that you don't have an aneurysm Gabby?" Gabby nodded, smiling. "Yeah, I did. I was so glad that I could take it easier on the pregnancy."
Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that. "Yeah, they'll be a lot less stress in our home." Gabby nodded, as that most certainly will be the case. "The home that I just learned I share with my brother-in-law." Kelly laughed as he heard Matt say that. "Yeah, I can see that lasting for a month. Then, either you're going to kick him out, he's going to leave, or you're going to move out." Matt sighed. "Well, it all depends on what state the house is in." Turning her head, Gabby looked at her husband. "Excuse me?" Matt sighed as he looked at the woman he loves, while once again placing his hand on her stomach. "You're pregnant with our child, that's the priority. It will always be the priority." Gabby agreed with Matt as she rubbed his arm, smiling due to the fact that she just loves him so much. She's very blessed to have him as her husband, and as the father of their child. "I still can't believe it." Matt agreed with his wife, as he kissed her forehead softly. "I can't wait to see people's reaction to the news that we're pregnant." Gabby agreed, smiling.
After all, she already knows that people are going to be happy for them. "I can already tell that people are going to be happy for us, just make sure that we take it easy and relax." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, as that was something that he most certainly can do for her. He can make sure that they take it easy and relax with each other. They can hold each other close as they sit in a booth, while they just make sure that there's nobody disturbing them when they need to relax. "I hope you know that you can always trust me to make sure that everything's okay for the entirety of your pregnancy Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt, as of course she knew that. "Of course, I know that baby, I'm surprised that you thought for a second that I didn't know that." Matt agreed with his wife, nodding as they both just held each other close right now. After which, he kissed the side of her head as he made sure that they both took it easy as they held each other close. "I love you." Gabby agreed with her husband, smiling as she loves him too.
And she also knew that he loved her, based on the way he treats her. "I know baby, I know you love me based on the way that you treat me. That's why I want to do this for you so bad, because I love the fact that you treat me like a queen." And that's when Severide had enough and turned on the music. "Oh, c'mon!" Kelly then went to change the radio station away from the Country Station as they were playing Need You Now by Lady A. Also known as, a love song. However, Stella didn't want that to happen as she loves this song. So, she slapped his hand. "You change it, then you don't get shit tonight!" Matt laughed as he heard Stella say that, as he knew that she meant it based on the way she snapped at him. "Severide, just listen to your lady." Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that, before placing her hand on his leg and stroking it with her thumb. "You're earning brownie points mister." Matt smiled as he got close to Gabby and whispered in her ear. "I think I don't need to earn brownie points, because I already put the bun in your oven."
Gabby laughed a bit as she heard Matt say that, before turning her head and smiling as she leaned in and kissed the man of her dreams. The man she loves more than anything in the entire world. The love of her life, Matthew Casey. "God, you're such a turn on. I hope you know that." Gabby agreed with her husband as he told her that, well aware that was the case as she kissed him once more. After which, she laid her head down on his chest again as they both just held each other close here in the back of her and Matt's car. And even though they weren't driving, they both felt safe; both for themselves, as well as their unborn child. A child which they already love more than anything in the entire world…especially since Gabby never thought that she'd get a chance to be pregnant with her and Matt's child, because they always thought it was too risky. But they now know that it isn't too risky, as it's instead very safe. She can carry their children all she wants, especially this first one that she already can't wait to meet.
Yet, at the same time, she also started to think about something else; how this is the last time Matt and Kelly can share a drink. So, she decided to do something. "Matt?" Turning his head, Matt smiled. "Yeah babe, you okay?" Gabby smiled. "Yeah. I just wanted to let you know that you can share one drink with Kelly. One last drink before we move away, and to celebrate the fact that we're having a baby. You deserve it baby." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, smiling as he leaned in and kissed the woman of his dreams, the mother of his child. "Maybe we can do it when we toast to the fact that we're having a baby and the New Year. How long do you want to keep it secret?" Stella laughed. "Not sure that we're going to be able to keep it a secret, as we need to tell Herrmann not to offer you alcohol or ask you to work Gabby." Matt sighed as he turned his head and looked at Gabby. "We need to announce it then, because I don't want that to happen again." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case.
They need to be the one to tell people, rather than have Herrmann tell people outside of the firehouse. "Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. By the way, I was still right that it would happen." Matt nodded, agreeing with his wife. "I'm just glad that we decided to tell people before we left." Stella looked at Matt when he said that. "Did you guys really think you would be able to leave without telling us?" Matt looked at Stella as she said that. "Careful, I was thinking of doing one last shift with you guys before I leave. I mean, if that's okay with you Gabby?" Gabby smiled, as she liked that idea. "I think I'd like that actually. Getting to see you in action one last time." Matt agreed with his wife. "However, you are not working on Ambo 61." Gabby looked at Matt as he told her that, until she remembered that she was pregnant. "I'll be there at least." Matt agreed. "My last shift is January 2nd then." Stella smiled at Gabby. "Gabby, I promise…I'll keep him safe." Gabby agreed with her best friend. "Oh, you bet you will. Or elseI will not be happy!"
Kelly took a breath. "Gabby, believe me when I say this. I've already seen that loosing a father can do to your children. I promise you right now, the last thing that I want for you and your baby is for Matt to be another Andy." Taking a breath, everybody just agreed with each other; while Matt looked at the woman he loves, kissing the back of her hand as they both just took some breaths right now. "Listen, how about we talk when we're at the restaurant? Right now, you can just breathe and take it easy for me Gabby. I think that's what you need to do right now." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that's what she thinks she needs to do right now as well. She needs to breathe and just take it easy, ahead of the two of them having a nice night with their friends (family) at the bar. "By the way, did you call Boden and tell him that we want him there?" Matt agreed with Gabby. "I told him that I want him there, but he already knows." Gabby was confused as she looked at Matt. "Why?" Matt sighed as he looked at the woman he loves.
After which, he explained. "Gabby, I had to tell him that I was leaving permanently. He was bound to ask, and I wanted to tell him myself rather than have him hear it from an outside source. Plus, I needed to give him a heads up. Gabby, that's another reason why I need to do the January 2nd shift. They can't find a lieutenant to take over Truck 81 that fast considering tomorrow is a holiday. It's just easier for them to have until January 4th to get a new lieutenant to take over Truck 81." Stella agreed with Matt, as that makes sense. "I have to admit, that does make sense when you think about it Gabby." Gabby just looked at Stella as she said that. "Whose side are you on?" Stella looked at Gabby. "My captain, who I'm going to make sure lives tomorrow to see his baby!" Gabby agreed with Stella as she said that, while Matt looked at Stella. "Stella, careful. Scaring your captain's wife while she's pregnant might not be the best idea." Stella agreed with Matt as he said that, as that most certainly is the truth. "Yeah, didn't think about that." Matt agreed with Stella.
After which, he turned to look at Gabby and smiled as he kissed her cheek. "Nothing to worry about, I promise." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, smiling as she already knew that was the case. However, it turned out that wasn't the truth as it seemed that Matt forgot his cardinal rule when it came to life: always expect the unexpected.
