A.N. Hey, so it's been ages, like 6 months? I think, maybe longer. I lost a lot of motivation to write and kinda just stopped. I finally decided to update this story, I still can't promise regular updates but I'll try my best.

Sorry for any mistakes, also feel free to review.

I don't own Harry Potter.

Have fun reading this chapter :)

Harry walked in silence, listening to Terry chatter on about all the times he'd flown on a broom. It was Thursday and they were heading down to the Quidditch pitch for their first flying lesson with the Hufflepuffs.

"And one time I was flying my broom over the top of my house and I fell off and smashed through the roof!" Terry grinned proudly at the memory. Harry frowned, confused at why the boy was happy about falling through the roof of his house.

They reached the Quidditch pitch five minutes early and Harry privately hoped that Terry would continue his conversation about Quidditch with someone else now that there was a decent crowd of students waiting around. He was, however, disappointed to find that Terry found him to be quite a suitable companion. Harry was thankful that the five minutes passed rather quickly so in no time the last few students and their teacher, Madam Hooch, joined them.

"Everyone stand by a broom. Come on hurry up."

Harry looked around for a broomstick and realised that there was a long line of them a few metres away. He rushed to stand beside one while the rest of the class battled over the only four broomsticks that didn't look to be over a hundred years old. "I said quickly now. All the brooms work the same."

Most students stood near any broom after that except for a couple of Hufflepuffs who Madam Hooch had to seperate.

"Stick your right hand over your broom and say 'Up!'" Harry looked down at his battered broom and stuck his hand over it shouting "UP!" with the rest of the students. The broom shot straight up into his hand, but it was one of the few that did. One of the hufflepuff's had let out a shout of surprise when his broom had shot forward a few feet, sliding across the muddy grass and one of the Ravenclaw girls Harry didn't recognise had looked deeply disappointed when her broom hadn't moved so much as a centimetre towards her hand.

Madam Hooch instructed them to pick up their broom if they hadn't had any success then showed them how to mount their brooms properly. She walked up and down the line correcting their grips and finally told them all that they had all done very well before reluctantly informing them that they had run out of time and to meet in her at the same place and time next week.

"We didn't even get to fly!" Terry said in disbelief. "We get to fly next lesson, we needed to learn the important things first." Harry told him. "Flying is important!" Terry pointed out. Harry gave a half hearted shrug as they made their way into the Great Hall for dinner.

"Hi Harry!" Padma ran up from behind, falling into step with them. "Hi Padma." Harry greeted her. The three of them sat down together on the long wooden bench at the end of the Ravenclaw table and began to fill their plates with food.

"I've been thinking," Padma started in a hushed tone, leaning closer to Harry and Terry. "The third floor corridor, I want to explore it." Terry's mouth fell open, his fork halfway to his mouth. "Explore the third floor corridor?" Harry asked, confused. "Were you even listening to Dumbledore's speech?" Padma asked exasperatedly. "No." Harry answered truthfully. "'The third floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death.'" Padma recited from memory.

"'a very painful death'!? Why on earth would you want to explore it?!" Harry asked in astonishment. "Well, it sounds exciting doesn't it? It sounds like there's something really cool up there." Padma reasoned. "I'm not going." Terry told them. "I don't want to die. Anyway, even if we don't die, we'll be in a lot of trouble." "Not if we don't get caught." Padma argued. "There's no way Harry and I are doing it." Terry said. "I'll do it." Harry decided. Terry glared at him, annoyed. "It'd be interesting to see what's up there." "Yes!" Padma grinned, grabbed a chicken leg and turned to the second year girl on her right.
