Chapter One: Apex, Part One

Cold War Era Monarch Bunker, Classified, 2019

"Fuck you!"

The Soldier sighed.

He was in an old underground Cold War era Monarch bunker, or more specifically, a makeshift prison room adjacent to his own private bedroom and in front of him was twelve-year-old Madison "Maddie" Russell who scowled hatefully at him. She had white skin, medium dark brown hair, and brown eyes.

Truthfully, it wasn't like he didn't deserve it. He was a soldier for environmental terrorists, which in retrospect, was never going to end well for him but now even he was willing to admit things might have gone a bit too far more than just get a little bit out of hand. He had been all but forced to stage a coup by killing their former leader Alan Jonah, his son Asher Jonah, and soldiers loyal to them before ordering those left, soldiers loyal to him, to evacuate, regroup, and replan while an actual living lovecraftian monster destroyed the world.

Cowardly?

Maybe.

But he knew they would all agree it's better to live and see the sun come up every morning than to die and go into an endless night. He left his thoughts when another voice spoke out and his attention was drawn to the woman in the cell right next to the girl's cell.

"Leave her alone!"

Emma Russell who scowled even more hatefully at him. She had white skin, medium golden-brown hair, and blue eyes. Mother like daughter, he thought dryly. But truthfully again, she was a complete MILF. Although, a bit crazy. Well, completely crazy. Jonah hadn't been off base when he accused her of being completely crazy.

And Madison?

Well, she was just a brat.

However, he couldn't help but be frustrated with them both. He could understand the dislike, the distrust, and even the disrespect. But the hate? He actually believed they could change the world for the better. He actually believed Jonah and Emma. But now? An actual living monster would destroy the planet… Their home… Mankind would become extinct… Their people…

Finally, he spoke evenly. He told Emma he didn't think she was in any position to tell him what to do. Especially after causing the end of the world.

"I wasn't trying to cause the end of the world! I-!" Emma began but he cut her off.

He asked her if she thought that monster would change the world without death? Did she think there would be peace on earth between them and that monster? She had been wrong. She had been very wrong. But not only was she a horrible human being but a horrible mother too. She actually believed her daughter would be okay with her father, her ex-husband, and billions of innocent people dying. She should be thankful he stopped his men from executing her in front of her daughter.

Emma's scowl disappeared and she appeared angry then regretful then finally depressed. He knew his words may have been harsh but he hadn't said anything wrong.

"Leave my mom alone!"

Slowly, he turned to the young girl with narrowed eyes who backed away in fear. She pushed herself against the back of the cell as he approached.

He spoke evenly again. He asked Madison if she had any idea of the horror her mother unleashed with Godzilla?

Stupidly, the brat shook her head with wide fearful eyes and he fought down the urge to spank her like the bratty child she was. Instead, he took a deep breath and took a step back before he reached for a remote on a table with an old TV. He turned the old TV on and gave Emma and Madison front row seats to the horror the former had unleashed on the world.

The footage showed the monster Godzilla who first appeared from Tokyo Bay and destroyed half of Tokyo in 2014. It then reappeared from San Francisco Bay and destroyed half of San Francisco later the same year. It had been frozen thanks to the cooperation between the United States and Japan… Until Jonah and Emma had the very same monster unfrozen five years later…

And what followed was the beginning of the end of the world…

The footage showed the giant black reptilian monster bending over and splitting its lower jaw in half… Its usual red glow changed to purple… Before it unleashed black smoke from its mouth which spread throughout the city… Then a bright purple ray of light appeared… Its atomic breath… Which vaporized anything and everything in its path… Its dorsal plates and tail then unleashed more purple beams of light causing even more destruction…

Slowly, he turned off the old TV and turned back to the pale and wide eyed prisoners as Madison began to hyperventilate and moved to one corner of her cell while Emma stood completely still. But both had tears in their eyes. He almost felt bad. Almost. But this was partly their fault. Jonah should have never enabled Emma and Madison should have been kept far the fuck away from that monstrosities.

"I-I d-didn't-! I-I…" Madison sobbed out before falling to her knees. Emma said nothing but stared at her feet.

Once again, he spoke evenly. He told them they both were now prisoners of… Apex… They both were now prisoners of Apex. They both would be kept in their cells until he decided what to do with them both. Neither of them responded so he said good night to them both and left the sullen Emma and the sniffling Madison and then his bedroom.

Passing soldiers stopped and saluted him despite him being one of the low ranking soldiers but he was too tired to complain so he nodded in return to them. Finally, he reached the meeting room, preparing himself for a long discussion with his men regarding Apex, their prisoners, and their future.

So it's been some time since I last updated a story or wrote in general. I won't bother making excuses but I was simply too frustrated with writing. I tried to return on and off over the summer but I just wasn't feeling it. But I began writing little by little this month so to get back into it again, I'm starting small by continuing stories I haven't finished instead of starting new stories and not finishing them. Regarding this story, it wasn't exactly planned out very well and I had to rewrite six chapters. Originally, I included Shin versions of Mothra, Ghidorah, and Rodan but as I wrote more and more, I realized I barely used or even mentioned them beyond the first two or three chapters so I wrote them out of the story. I kind of realized Shin Ghidorah would wipe out everyone with ease considering Shin Godzilla was already a literal God. So to give mankind, or more specifically the characters, a win condition, I settled on Shin Godzilla's fifth form (Shin Godzilla Army) at the end of the film to be its final form. But they still won't have an easy time. Anyway, that's all I have to say at the moment, I don't really plan on adding notes to every chapter anymore because I found the experience draining but if any good questions pop up in the comments, I might answer them at the end of a chapter.
