"Twins?"
"It took you that long to catch that old man?" Sadie said as she looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
He gave her a look and she rolled her eyes, "You know that look of yours never worked on me?"
"Sadie…"
She smiled then gave a little nod, "Yes. Twins. A boy and a girl."
Gibbs had a ghost of a smile on his face, "Their names?"
"Jet. I named him after you, then there's Daisy after my nana."
Jet. Daisy.
He almost had a swell of pride at knowing he had a child with his name, not that it ever mattered when he had been married and with his first daughter. He couldn't speak so he just leaned over and kissed Sadie's forehead, careful of her bandage. They were quiet after that as they waited for the elevator to take them to their destination. The elevator dinged and the doors opened. They walked out together and into the bullpen. Tony and the other two had just came back from gathering evidence at the scene. Ducky stood with a female who had black pigtails. Everyone looked up as they entered. Sadie stopped and Gibbs took a step forward before he realized she wasn't beside her. He then remembered how shy Sadie would be when there's a crowd of people.
He stepped back, leaned down to whisper into her ear, "I forgot. I'm sorry."
Sadie just looked at him and shrugged her shoulders. She knew ten years had been a long time. Memories fade.
"It's okay," she whispered back.
Gibbs grabbed her hand and pulled her gently. She followed behind him and stopped when Gibbs stopped. Instead of introducing her to some of the others she didn't know, Gibbs simply just barked orders.
"What do we know?"
Timothy McGee clicked a remote and their big tv turned on. Ducky stepped over to Sadie's side. She turned to look at him and gave him a smile. He wrapped his arms around her for a hug. Sadie gave one in return, slipping her hand out of Gibb's hold. Gibbs turned to glance behind him then turned back when Tim starting speaking.
"A 9-1-1 call came in around 11:39 reporting that a car had crashed. Police arrived at the scene stating that Ms. Jenkins was the driver. Firefighters arrived to cut her out of the vehicle," Tim said as he clicked open a picture. A picture of the mangled SUV popped up.
"Damn, didn't think I hit that pole that bad," Sadie said, wincing at the damage on the screen.
The others turned to look at her. Ducky still had his arm wrapped around her. Tony stepped up and stood behind Sadie.
"Based on what witnesses said…if you hadn't been rammed from behind, you never would've hit the pole," Tony said. "Various accounts said that two men rammed behind and once you crashed, they stepped out and grabbed two kids. They were gone by the time police arrived."
Sadie sighed and set her head on Ducky's shoulder. She had enough crying.
"What do we do now? How do we get them back?" Sadie asked.
"We find out why they kidnapped them," Gibbs said. "Any other evidence found?"
"We have fingerprints. Most likely they're Ms. Jenkins if the men wore gloves," Tim said as he flicked through the picture.
"Call me Sadie please," she said. "I know most of you don't know me, I don't like being called that."
"Sorry…Sadie," Tim said.
"No worries," Sadie said with a smile. "So, um…if fingerprints are all we have…what's next?"
Gibbs turned around to her, "You."
She looked at him, "I'm sorry?"
"Right now, you are the only witness we have. There's a reason why they targeted you and took our kids," Gibbs said.
"Well…I…" Sadie started.
"Wait! Hold on, Gibbs, your kids?" Abby Sciuto, exclaimed, out of the loop on new information that a select few had.
Gibbs looked at Abby, "Not now Abby."
"But-"
"Abs! Not now," Gibbs sharply said. "Why don't you go down to the lab and get started on those fingerprints?"
Abby was stunned. It's not often that Gibbs spoke to her this way. She was a little insulted. She turned, ignoring the others, and headed to her lab. There was an awkward silence when Gibbs turned back to them. Sadie looked up at Ducky.
Tony slung an arm around Sadie's shoulders, "Don't worry about Abby. Right now, the kids are important."
"Right…um...," Sadie said as she turned back to Gibbs. "I got fired last month."
Tony lifted his arm, "Whoa…you just got detective rank and you got fired?"
Gibbs cocked his head at Tony, "And how do you know that?"
Tony sheepishly rubbed the back of his head as if he felt Gibbs' invisible slap.
"C'mon Boss, you know we worked together on a few cases," Tony reminded him.
"Working together on a few cases doesn't equal you knowing she made detective rank," Gibbs retorted.
Sadie sighed, "Oh my god. Tony and I became friends Jethro. He helped me study for my Detective test."
She stepped away from out under Ducky's arm and stood in front of Gibbs, "Simmer down on the look dude."
Tim let out a laugh and covered it by coughing. Nobody ever had the balls to call Gibbs dude. Gibbs glared at him.
"Jethro…" Ducky said. "I'd suggest we listen to Sadie instead of worrying about how she and Tony are friends."
Gibbs toned down his glare and turned to look back at Sadie.
"Why did you get fired?" A woman who hadn't spoke, piped up with the question. She had stayed quiet, watching the interaction.
Sadie sighed and looked around for a chair. She grabbed the nearest one and sat down. Her body was bone tired, and a small headache began to develop.
"My mentor retired by the time I moved up in rank," Sadie began. She rubbed her head. "I had a new partner for a few months before he got killed. There were a few drug busts and drugs started going missing from the evidence locker."
The woman, Ziva David, gave her a glass of water. Sadie looked up and nodded her appreciation. She took a sip, then continued.
"At first, I thought my partner, Dave, was in on it. But then he got killed, and my suspicions shifted. I started making copies of evidence and files. Anything that I thought were worth looking at. I was told to let it go. Dave's death was just a byproduct of his job. But I didn't believe that. Then I was fired. That's when I really started suspecting someone. I hid all the evidence I had gathered."
She drank the rest of the water and Gibbs took the cup.
"Who did you suspect?"
At first Sadie didn't want to say anything but when Gibbs kneeled to eye-level, she relented.
"My Captain."
