A/N: Hello again, all! Essiter here, finally back with the next chapter for this story. Had a bit of Writer's block after I started on it, but I was eventually able to push through. I will admit, not my best work here, and, truthfully, it was going to be a bit longer, but I decided to split up the parts for this chapter. Now, whether that'll be two or more parts depends on how I feel.

I do hope you like what I do have here, though.

I should have some more chapters out for RWBY the RPG, and maybe some other stories, before too long. Maybe even today! WE'll see.

As the Bullhead roared in the five man squad of soldiers gave their gear one final check.

All wore grey colored, armor plating over their dull colored, dark grey combat skins. They wore armored greaves, gauntlets, full torso plating and helmets with boom mikes and retractable, bronze-colored visors.

They were all armed with the Valean Gladius 2 series assault rifles, Gladius 1 series semi-automatic pistols, and Gladius X series concussive grenades.

As special forces, the five men also had their own specific weaponry and equipment they began to prepare for the mission at hand.

At the head of the dropship's troop bay was the leader of the small group. He was a large man, Valean, with red head and brutish look on his face.

"Alright, boys!" He shouted through the boom mike he wore over the roar of the engines as he saw the light above his head turn on and flashed briefly in a coded pattern. He looked at the watch he wore before continuing, "Get it in gear! We're five Mikes out!"

"Roger that, Boss!" A shorter, green-haired, Mohawk-wearing man said in response as he slapped a magazine into his assault rifle before putting a green-painted double-barreled shotgun in his back holster alongside a mini computer. Then he asked as he began to sharpen a long, wicked-looking dagger, "Any idea who, or what, we're facing? Hope it's not more Faunus! Bit tired of fighting those animals, Boss!"

"Cut the chatter, Thrush! You'll know more, when I know more! Got it?" Cardin shouted back before looking over at the rest of the five man group as the shorter man shrunk back in dismissal, and nodded to himself at what he saw. Then he smirked to himself before shouting out jubilantly, "Hey, Arc! Haven't lost your lunch yet? Good job!"

The tall, blond haired man in question gave a queasy smile as he raised a shaky thumbs up.

Second Lieutenant Jaune Arc

"Ye-yeah, yeah. I'm good, boss." The blond said before clasping a hand to his mouth as his stomach gurgled loudly. The rest of the five man squad immediately laughed out loud at that before calming down after a look from their captain.

When he stood to put on his own gear the blue-haired man next to him then sniggered under his breath before saying, "Come on, Arc! The sword? Really? There ain't no way you're ever going to get to use that thing. Between my Feather's Edge, or Russell's Short Wings, ain't no way, none of those animals are ever goin' get close enough to ya."

The blond shrugged as he attached a medic kit to his belt next to his sidearm before inserting a sword and sheath in a slot in the back of his torso armor, and said, "You never know, Sky. Anything can happen out in the field."

"Ha! Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself that, LT." Sky returned with a sneer as he took down his personal sniper rifle and checked it over before slamming home a boxy-looking magazine and looked over at their last member as he said, "Isn't that right, Dove?"

The last member of the five man squad, a somewhat pudgy brown-haired man, merely nodded in reply before his went back to checking his own weapons. A simple revolver, and an assault rifle.

Once he was done, he turned to Captain Winchester and gave a nod, signaling that he was ready. Cardin nodded back before muttering into his headset.

With a swift motion, the Bullhead rocketed into the base's perimeter after it's pilots punched a series of coded inputs for confirmation of permission to enter the base's airspace. As the codes were acknowledged, the various automatic anti-aircraft weapon platforms in the area were briefly disarmed as the dropship came in. It then transitioned into a hovering position over a designated landing strip, slowly dropping down to the base below.

And what a base it was.

The massive complex was built in a dizzying, confusing maze-like pattern of differently-sized and -shaped buildings, jutting out into the desert in the four Cardinal directions. Each of the buildings in the four directions were further marked by being built in the manner of the individual Kingdom that dominated that portion of the base.

All four quadrants were surrounded large, heavily reinforced, and armed, walls, with built in blast doors. Also built in the manner of their individual Kingdom.

As were the various weapon and security systems placed there.

As the Bullhead landed and the squad stepped out, fully geared up, they were met by at the landing pad by a white-haired man in the uniform of a Vacuan Colonel. Cardin saluted as soon as he met the officer, saying, "Sir. What's the situation?"

The colonel saluted him and his squad in turn before motioning him to follow after him as he said in reply, "Don't know, Captain. We lost communications with the lower levels a week ago. After, they sent a warning about… something." He shook his head he before continued with, "Since then, we had infrequent… incidents. Of varying nature."

"Incidents, sir?" Cardin asked as he observed the surroundings as the squad followed along behind, doing the same.

He noted the dozens of guards around the area. All, fully armed and heavily armored. As well as the evidence of damage to one of the walls. Bullet holes, and potential blast damage.

"Attacks. Sabotage." The colonel muttered in reply as they paused by a blast door, separating the air strip from the surrounding section, waiting for it to open. As it opened they watched a group of a dozen soldiers jogged by, a mixture of Vacuan and Valean individuals. He glanced at the Valean before looking ahead again as he said, "The insurgents have yet to be caught, or witnessed in the act."

Cardin looked at him in confusion then.

He shrugged as he said, "It's, like the surveillance systems are somehow shut down, every time they attack. And, it's like their bodies just disappear, if any of them are killed."

"Sir?" Cardin then asked, confused by such a statement.

The colonel stopped then, and turned to face the Valean. He glanced around before he stepped into Cardin's personal space and whispered into his ear, "I don't know what's going on here, Captain. None of us do. We weren't even informed of there being a lower level to the base until after the initial attack."

He stepped back then as he said, "Hopefully, the man you're meeting with will be able to enlighten you on this matter. Good luck, Captain."

Then he turned and started off again.

The five men stood there for a moment in silence, looking at each other in confusion before starting off after the colonel again.

A/N: I decided while I was editing this chapter to break it up even more after I saw how jumbled up it was. Hope that helps a bit. That was why I decided to split the chapter up in the first place. I do apologize if this didn't help.

Take care! Essiter out!
