Todoroki-kun to Koi no Yamai
[6]
Admittedly, Kagome didn't know much about Shouto's likes or dislikes. Because of this, she was uncertain if presenting fresh-baked cookies to him would catch his favor. This advice was courtesy of Toru. "I've never seen Todoroki-kun eat sweets," was Kagome's first response as her face contorted with visible uncertainty.
"Well, I'm living proof that you can't limit your beliefs to things that you see," responded Toru with cheerful charisma.
Kagome chuckled and conceded, unable to argue with that logic, "Okay, okay. I'll give it a try."
After Kagome completed her homework that evening, she immediately got to work. When her family questioned why she cracked open their baking book on a school night, she skittishly gave vague answers. She wasn't at a point where she was comfortable talking about her love life or lack thereof.
It was only now that she would be baking for her crush that Kagome felt overwhelmed by the number of options to choose from. 'Toru-chan didn't really give me any ideas...' She thought as she flipped through the pages. 'Todoroki-kun, what type of sweets do you like?'
'Butter cookies are usually a safe option,' Kagome thought as she spotted the recipe. 'If Todoroki-kun likes traditional Japanese flavors then matcha cookies might be better.' The only sound in the kitchen was that of the swishing of turning pages as she searched for the right type of cookie for her crush.
After scanning the recipe titles from cover to cover, Kagome finally decided to bake an assortment of cookies. In her ideal world, she would be able to watch Shouto eat every cookie and determine his preference based on his reactions. The sparkling image in her mind was of her watching Shouto's expression mildly lighten up after gingerly taking a bite. It was a long shot but if something like that happened, it would make her entire year, so she got to work.
The next day, she cushioned her ribbon-sealed cellophane bag of sweets with her gym uniform after packing her textbooks. Despite the entire class and possibly more of her peers knowing of her crush on Shouto, Kagome wanted to make her offer with as much privacy as possible. Right at his shoe locker at the beginning of the day seemed like her best bet. It would be just before the halls became lively if she timed it correctly.
—and timed it correctly, she did not.
'Eh...' Kagome's eye twitched as traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian, came to a screeching halt by a wild foot chase of a band of villains by local heroes. As a student, she didn't have the license that would permit her to use her quirk to intervene and be of assistance.
Being ushered and herded along with a crowd of civilians for protection was somewhat frustrating. Or rather—watching the struggle and being unable to legally step in left her with an itch. Kagome had power and she had heart. She had what it took to be a hero and help thwart evil. She had what it took to obtain victory.
Kagome's nails dug into her palm as her fingers curled inward.
In the end, after a half-hour struggle being the do-gooders and evil-doers, Kagome arrived at her homeroom with only a few minutes to spare. She wasn't surprised, but she was disappointed to find that she missed Shouto at the lockers. 'I wonder if Todoroki-kun noticed a difference today,' She absently wondered as she spotted her crush at his desk.
Kagome was sure to greet all of her classmates as she usually did while making her way to her desk. She was unaware of the many sets of eyes that followed her as she went. Kagome was walking with purpose. She moved with the powerful, focused strides that were usually reserved for training. She dropped her backpack into her chair before reaching inside to grab her bag of goodies.
Kagome paused for a moment as she stared down at her confections. 'I hope there's at least one that he likes,' she thought as her eyes performed a last-minute skim for imperfections. 'Alright—!'
"Ah, Kago-rin made cookies," Eijiro noted aloud in his usual sunny beam voice.
Immediately, Denki joined them, standing at Kagome's other side as his entire face lit up, "She sure did. And they look awesome!"
"They look so professional," Eijiro added as the crowd around Kagome steadily grew. "Kago-rin, are you sharing these?" He asked curiously.
"Err..." A record scratch sound played as Kagome froze. "Actually..." Only the more observant students noticed the ways her eyes darted to Shouto, who seemed to be paying the scene no mind.
Denki's and Mina's eyes sparkled at the prospect. They cupped their hands together and begged, "Please, Kago-rin~! You're our culinary goddess~!"
Meanwhile, Toru, Kyoka, and Momo were sweatdropping in the background at the scene. "Do you think Mina-chan forgot about the plan...?" Toru questioned.
"I think she was seduced by the thought of free cookies," came Kyoko's deadpan answer.
By the time Aizawa entered the room, all of the students were settled at their desks. Kagome was defeated as only three cookies remained in her crumpled bag.
