Matt is standing in a hallway and Elena walks up to him at night in the Mystic Falls Hospital.
"How's Mr. Saltzman?" He asked.
"Resigned to spending the night in observation, so long as I promise to change the lock on the house." Someone is looking at them through a room window as they walk towards the exit. "So I talked to Bonnie earlier. She and her mom are fine. Have you talked to Caroline?"
"Yeah, she's holding it together, considering how close she and her dad used to be. Any word on who's behind these attacks?"
"No, Sheriff Forbes said there's no real suspects at all."
They're now walking outside the hospital in the parking lot.
"How are you dealing with everything? I mean, you keep getting dragged into all of this."
"Honestly...I'm kind of lucky, the only thing that I have to worry about for tomorrow, is showing up for my shift at the Grill."
"Thank you, for everything today. Really."
"Get home safe."
"Thanks."
"She sighs and walks to her car. Matt gets into his car and reverses out. Elena waves to him from inside her car as he's driving away. She starts her car, starts reversing, and hits something. She stops driving immediately."
"What?"
She gets out of her car and checks her bumper. There's nothing there. Suddenly, Rebekah appears.
"Drive much?" The blond asked.
"Rebekah."
Rebekah grabs Elena and pushes her against her car.
"Surprised? You drove a dagger through my back, Elena. It hurt."
Rebekah tries to bite Elena and Elena screams.
Suddenly Elijah rushes over, and holds Rebekah against a car by her throat.
"Elijah." Rebekah said.
"Leave." He turns to her.
He releases his grip and Rebekah steps forward.
"Are you challenging me?" He asked.
"You're pathetic. Both of you." Rebekah disappears.
"Well...I believe we have a little catching up to do." Elijah said.

The next morning, Elena, Stefan, and Damon are in the kitchen at the Gilbert house.
"It was their mother Esther who was sealed in that coffin." She told them.
"As in the Original Witch?" Stefan asked.
"What? How is she even alive? Thought her hybrid freak show of a son ripped her heart out a thousand years ago." Demon said.
"I don't know. I'm guessing she has a couple connections in the witching community. Elijah said that she wants to live in peace with her family, including Klaus." Elena said.
"She was supposed to be the weapon to help us kill Klaus." Stefan said.
"Well, not anymore...at least not according to Elijah." Elena replied, still trusting him after everything since he's protected her against his own brother.
"That coffin was the only thing stopping Klaus from tearing us to shreds." Stefan said.
"Anyone else feeling a little used right now?" Damon asked.
"Look, Elijah promised me that his family wouldn't hurt any of us." Elena said before the doorbell rings. "I believe him."
Elena goes and opens the door. No one is there, but on the doormat is an envelope with an ornately-handwritten "Elena Gilbert" on the front. She picks it up, closes the door, and turns around. Damon and Stefan are in the lobby near her.
"What is it?"
She opens the envelope and removes a card.
"It's an invitation. "Please join the Mikaelson Family, this evening at seven o'clock. For dancing, cocktails and celebration."
"Who the hell are the Mikaelsons?" The younger Salvatore asked.
"The Original Family." Elena replied.
"It's not bad enough they're moving into town, now they want a housewarming gift?" Damon asked.
She turns the card over and sees there's writing on the back.
"Wait, there's a note on the back. "Elena, I think it's time that we finally meet, Esther."

Music is playing at Klaus's mansion. Rebekah is having her nails polished by an assistant. Kol is standing before a full-length mirror wearing a black evening suit while a tailor adjusts it. Finn and Elijah are also standing in the room preparing for the ball.
"Rebekah? Tell me how handsome I am."
"Ah Kol, you know I can't be compelled."
Finn grins. The door opens. Klaus walks in and up to Rebekah.
"You went after Elena? What is wrong with you?!" The hybrid asked.
"Here we go." Rebekah said, looking at her half brother.
"Do you want another dagger in your heart?" He threatened.
"Again with the dagger threats? Don't you have any other tricks?" Kol asked.
Klaus snapped. "Oh, go back to staring at yourself."
"And who are you, my father?" Kol quipped.
"No, Kol, but you're in my house." The hybrid said.
"Then perhaps we should go outside."
Klaus and Kol stare at each other. Esther walks in and says, "Enough! Niklaus. Come."
Klaus goes into another room with his mother.
"You put daggers in their hearts. You want them to go down on their knees and kiss your feet for reuniting them?"
"So it's a crime to want our family to be as we were?" He asked.
"You need to give it time, Niklaus. I've had a thousand years on the other side to be angry and to heal. I'm here to make sure this family does the same." Esther replied.
"Just don't understand. I killed you, and still you forgive me." Klaus said.
"It's been my dream for a thousand years that this family could be as one. Forgiveness is not a chore. It's a gift. Now, who are you bringing to the ball this evening?"
Klaus sighs. "Don't be ridiculous. You're lucky I'm even going."
"Well, I wish you would reconsider. It is going to be a magical evening." Esther said.

"If Esther wants to talk to me, maybe I should find out why." Elena said.
"Well that's a dumb idea, she already tried to kill you once." Damon replied.
"No, Elena is right. Bonnie was led to open that coffin for a reason. I think there is more to this than just some family reunion." Stefan replied.
"Can we go back in time where the old Stefan cared if Elena lived or died?" The older Salvatore asked.
"What for? It's your job now."
"Stefan has a point, Damon. I should find out what she wants." Elena said.
"You can't protect yourself." He said.
Stefan intervened. "Okay fine, then I'll go."
"You've pissed off enough Originals to last a lifetime. I'll go." Damon said before he snatches the invitation out of Elena's hand.
"Hey!" She looked at him.
"End of story."

Caroline's at her house when her phone beeps twice. She picks it up and listens. It's a voicemail from Tyler.
"Caroline, it's Tyler. I know I should have called sooner, I just kinda freaked out and left. But I heard about your dad and I'm sorry. I'm really sorry Caroline. I'm out doing what he said. I'm gonna fix myself and come home to you. I love you."
Someone knocks on the door. Caroline opens it and finds a box with a ribbon around it on her doorstep. She brings it inside and looks at the envelope on it with her name handwritten on it. She opens it and sees the exact same invitation card to Klaus' ball that Elena received. She turns it over and sees that Klaus has written "Save me a dance. Fondly, Klaus." on the back.
Caroline scoffs. "Seriously?" She opens the box and sees a beautiful blue dress. She places the lid back on the box.

Elena is with Caroline at the Mystic Grill.
"It's all so weird. The Originals are throwing a ball. Like an actual ball." Elena said.
"It's some twisted Cinderella fetish is what it is and why does the Evil Witch want an audience with you?" The blond asked.
"I have no idea. There's only one way to find out."
"I thought you told Damon and Stefan that you weren't going."
"I did, which is all the more reason why I need a drama free bodyguard."
"Well, I think a Salvatore would look a lot better in a tux and by that I mean Stefan."
"Uhh, I can't deal with either of the Salvatores right now. Whatever Stefan is feeling, he is channeling it all against Klaus. And Damon...it's just not a good idea."
"Why, cause you two made out? Bonnie spilled the beans."
"I was gonna tell you. Just, after everything happened with your dad..."
"Elena, when you and Matt kissed for the first time freshman year, you called me the second it happened. Now I don't hear about this til now, and from somebody else."
"I'm sorry. It's just I, I don't even know how I feel about it yet. All I do know is that it just used to be so much easier."
Rebekah walks up. "Careful Caroline. It's all well and good until she stabs you in the back."
"What are you doing here? I know your mom's rules. No hurting the locals." The brunette asked.
"Get over yourself Elena. It's not all about you."
Rebekah walks away over to Matt and gives him an invitation envelope to the ball.
"Oh my god. She's inviting him to the ball. Why is she inviting him?" Caroline asked.
"Probably to get this reaction from us."
Caroline scoffs. "What time is this stupid dance?"

It's evening. Cars are pulling up the driveway in front of the mansion. Inside there are lots of people talking. A live band is playing classical music. Damon walks over to Carol Lockwood and hands her a glass of champagne.
"Hello Carol."
"Hello."
They clink glasses.
"Hanging out with your new besties?"
"I'm the mayor, Damon. When the oldest, deadliest, family of vampires moves into your town, you welcome them with a smile."
"Hmm, Well at least you know who you're borrowing that cup of sugar from."
"I'm trying to protect this town. They've assured me they want peace, and I've assured them that I'd enforce it."
Kol walks over and kisses Carol's hand as he greets her.
"Mayor Lockwood. We haven't formally met. Kol Mikaelson. I hope your lovely town embraces us just as much as we plan to embrace it."
Damon holds out his hand to shake Kol's hand.
"Damon Salvatore. Have we met?" He asked.
Kol doesn't shake his hand. "I've met a lot of people and you don't particularly stand out." Kol walks away. Damon sees Elena enter wearing an exquisite dress. He stares at her.
"Excuse me, Carol."
Stefan and Damon walk up to meet Elena."
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Surprise, surprise. Nice tux." He turned to Elena. "You're not supposed to be here."
"Well, I am and I'm not leaving until I find out what Esther wants. So, shall we?"
Stefan offers Elena his arm and she wraps hers in it. She looks at Damon and he does the same, and she takes his arm with her other arm. Both Salvatores escort her into the party.

Caroline is searching through her closet looking for something to wear. She finally chooses the dress Klaus gave her.

Caroline enters in her dress. Klaus notices her from across the room and walks over to meet her.
"Good evening."
"I need a drink."
She walks away as Finn walks up to Elena at the drinks bar.
"Elena Gilbert, I presume? I'm Finn Mikaelson. You're here to see my mother."
"Is she here?" She asked.
"Her request did not include your friends."
"They're protecting me. You may not know but your mother's already tried to kill me once."
"If you want to see my mother, you'll need to be alone."
Elijah makes an announcement. "Uh, if everyone could gather, please."
"Excuse me."
All the Originals are standing on the staircase as Elijah addresses the company. Esther walks down the staircase from upstairs, but Elena's eyes are focused on Elijah. "Welcome, thank you for joining us. You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance."
Damon and Stefan notice Esther.
"Do you see who I see?" The former asked his brother.
"Oh, yeah." The latter replied.
"Tonight's pick is a centuries-old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom."
Esther retreats silently back upstairs. Elena moves to go upstairs, but Damon blocks her way.
"Don't even think about it."
"She wants to see me alone, Damon."
"Well sucks to be her then. Was I not clear this morning?"
"I was invited."
"You have to tell me before you walk into a lion's den."
"Why so that you can stop me?"
"Uhh...Yes!" Damon extends his hand towards her. "It would be rude not to dance, you know."
Elena relents, takes his hand and curtsies.
"It is tradition."
Damon and Elena walk out to the ballroom as Stefan watches them with a depressed look on his face. In the ballroom, everyone is dancing the waltz.
"You look stunning, if it isn't obvious."
"Thank you."

Caroline and Klaus are dancing together.
"I'm glad you came." He said.
"Well, it was either caviar or sympathy casseroles."
"I heard about your father."
"Don't. Seriously."
"Very well. On to more mannered subjects then, like how ravishing you look in that dress."
"I didn't really have time to shop."
"And the bracelet I gave you, what's your excuse for wearing that? You know, you're quite the dancer."
"Well, I've had training. I happen to be Miss Mystic Falls."
"I know."

Elena and Damon are still dancing. Damon twirls her around and she's suddenly in Stefan's arms. They dance together.
"Hmm. He dances, and I didn't even have to beg."
"Well Mayor Lockwood dragged me out here. Couldn't exactly say no."
They both look like they don't want to show how overjoyed they both are to be in each others arms once again after Stefan left with Klaus.

Meanwhile, Caroline and Matt are dancing together.
"What are you doing? Why are you here with the She-Devil?"
"What was I supposed to say, no? And why the hell are you here with Klaus?"
"Don't even get me started."
"Took you about thirty seconds to put Damon in a mood."
"He's just looking out for me."
"I think he needs to figure out that you can look out for yourself."
"I need to talk to you."
"Okay, so talk."
"Not here."

Meanwhile, Rebekah and Damon are dancing. Rebekah is staring at Caroline as she dances.
"Stop staring. It's creepy."
"Of course she looks beautiful. Nik gave her everything she's wearing."
"Well, you're no dog yourself."
"Was that supposed to be a compliment?"
"Heh. You tried to kill Elena last night. You don't get compliments."
"Caveman."
"Where is Elena?"

Outside, Elena and Stefan are walking onto the lawn alone.
"If Esther is secretly on our side, we need to know. But I can't get to her with two bodyguards."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because Damon won't let me anywhere near her without protection and you care about killing Klaus more than you care about anything, so..."
Stefan reacts and looks down. Elena notices.
"What? Am I wrong?"
"No, you're not wrong. What do you need me to do?"
"Make sure that I can get into that room with Esther. Alone."
"You sure you can do this?"
"I can do this." Elena starts to walk away but stops and turns around. "When we were together you used to let me make my own decisions. You trusted me. After all this at least that hasn't changed."

In the foyer Kol and Rebekah are talking.
"Where's your date?"
"Flirting with his ex."
"You've changed, Bekah. You know, settling for mortals is the first sign of weakness."
"I'm not settling. I brought him here to kill him. He's Elena's friend. If he dies she suffers, but I've already been scolded once so I was hoping you'd help your baby sister out."
"And spit right in the face of mother's rules?" He smiles. "I'm in."

In the library, Elena is alone by the window. Damon walks in.
"Got your text. What are we doing in here?"
Stefan comes out of nowhere and breaks Damon's back. Damon collapses on the floor unconscious.
"Well, better hurry up. He won't be down for long."
She walks to the door, looks at Stefan, then exits.

Later, Elena is walking down a hallway when Elijah walks up from behind.
"Elena. I understand my mother requested to see you."
"Uh, yeah. Why, is something wrong?"
"Well, her ability to forgive my brother after everything he's done to destroy this family strikes me as a little strange to say the least."
"Do you think that it's an act?" She said before he turned around to look at her.
"It has me asking questions I never thought I'd ask. Can I depend on you to tell me what she says?"
"Of course. I'll find you later, okay?"

In Esther's study, Finn is sharpening a knife while Esther is burning some sage. There's a knock on the door.
"That'd be the girl."
Finn walks over to the door and opens it, revealing Elena standing there alone.
"You're alone. Wise choice."
Elena walks in and notices Esther holding the sage.
"It's only sage. I've spelled it so we can speak freely without fear of being overheard. That'll be all Finn, thank you." Finn leaves. "You must have a million questions for me Elena. Please." Esther gestures towards the sofa and they sit on it.
"How are you alive? Are you a ghost or..."
"Not exactly. When I died the witch Ayana preserved my body with a spell. She was a close friend of mine, an ancestor of your friend Bonnie."
"So that's why only Bonnie and her mother could open up the casket."
"They complete the Bennett bloodline. I drew power from them and their ancestors who were with me on the other side."
"So you've been on the other side for a thousand years?"
"Nature's way of punishing me for turning my family into vampires. But there is a way for me to undo the evil I created."
"You're gonna help us kill Klaus, aren't you?"
"One thing at a time Elena. For now, I simply need your help."

Caroline is outside, admiring the horses. Klaus approaches her.
"You like horses?"
"I'm not talking to you until you tell me why you invited me here."
"I fancy you. Is that so hard to believe?"
"Yes!"
"Why? You're beautiful, you're strong, you're full of light. I enjoy you."
"Well I'm spoken for. By Tyler."
"But I thought you two ended things."
"Yeah, because of you and your freaky sire bond with him."
"So you aren't spoken for. You know, horses are the opposite of people. They're loyal. My father hunted me for a thousand years and the closest he ever came was the day he killed my favorite horse. He severed its neck with a sword as a warning."
"Did you ever consider sitting down with your father and talking it out?"
"Well, I'm afraid my relationship with my father was a little bit more complex than yours."
"Maybe so, but I let my father go with no regrets and to answer your question, yes, I like horses, but I also like people and they actually like me so I'll be inside."

In Esther's study, she's lighting some candles.
"I understand Rebekah shared the story of my family. How I upset the balance of nature by turning my children into vampires."
"She said you did it to protect them from the werewolves."
"It's true. But in no time at all, they began to feed on human blood. They ravaged the town with no remorse. Eventually, Niklaus turned against me."
"How are you gonna kill him? He's immortal."
"It will take time, magic, and your assistance."
"What do I have to do with it?"
"My children believe I'm holding this ball to celebrate our reunion, but in truth I've gathered them together to perform a ritual. The first step requires blood from the doppelgänger. Only a drop. Its essence will be in the champagne toast later on this evening. Will you do it or shall I?" Esther was holding a long thin knife in her hands. Elena's taken aback.

A/N: I decided to switch it up and not have Elena be so cooperative. Instead, she'd fight back because of her own personal reasons and one of them has to do with a certain Original brother with impeccable taste.
"Elijah is more suspicious than the others, so he may need more persuasion, but they must all drink at the toast in order to be linked as one."
Her heart pounded when she heard her ally's name. "What do you mean "linked as one?"
"You said yourself Klaus can't be killed, but tonight's spell links all my children together, so that if one goes, they all go."
"What?"
"I love my family, Elena, but they are an abomination. I betrayed nature when I created them. It's my duty to kill them." Esther said.
"What if I say no and go straight to Elijah, telling him everything?" She challenged with a raised eyebrow.
"I will end your life and make Elijah watch before I make him forget and then kill all of them." She smirked, loving Elena's reaction. The doppelgänger's heart pounded in her chest, tears threatened to gather in her eyes and she felt anger coursing through her. Of course she wanted Klaus out of her life, but that didn't mean he deserved to die over it. Her heart broke and a sob threatened to escape as she thought of Elijah being killed. He out of all of his siblings deserves this the least. He'd always respected, understood and trusted her. How would she betray him like this? Elijah who is so strong, protective, fierce, and yet noble, and gentle. Elijah who never stopped fighting to protect her. Elijah who always respected, trusted, understood and looked at her in a way that made her heart race more than Stefan and Damon ever did. Elijah who always saw her for her instead of Katherine. Elijah who always respected her decisions more than Stefan and Damon even if he didn't agree with them. Elijah who always treated her with kindness. Elijah who always looked happy to see her behind that calm facade he always had on. Elijah who she was always happy to see and couldn't wait until she saw him again. Elijah who made her feel as if she was the only one in the room when he looked at her. Elijah who always gave her his undivided attention. Elijah who could have handed her over to Klaus the first chance he got, but didn't. Elijah who made her feel like she could handle anything.
Elijah who made her question her relationship with the Salvatore brothers and what she thought she wanted. Elijah who is in love with her even if he won't admit it.
She wasn't stupid. She saw the way he looked at her, but pretended to play dumb in front of Esther.
"Why would you force him to do that?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
"Because he's in love with you and it would make him realize it instead of hiding it. It wouldn't be the first time a Petrova Doppelganger died by someone in my family." She smirked.
"What are you talking about?"
"The first doppelgänger was Tatia who was and still is the first love of Niklaus and Elijah. They both fell hard for her, but she only had eyes for one. She ended up choosing Eljah after her husband died, but ran from him and Niklaus when she saw the dead body next to them in the village that was a result of Niklaus unleashing his werewolf side for the first time. Elijah, a newly turned vampire, went after her. He drained her body of blood and brought her to me. I told him to get cleaned up, he did that and more, and I took the blame because he'd blame himself if he found out. I made him forget and Niklaus has no idea either. Both of them hate me because of what I told them I did when it was really Elijah himself. He believes he compelled Tatia to forget what she saw and she did, but that's a lie. I see the way he looks at you Elena and I saw every single look he gave you since you two met. He'd never hurt or kill you." Elena started shaking and crying, feeling overwhelmed. "Now, will you do this for me or do I have to take your blood from you by force?" She glared.
Elena glared back. "You'll have to kill me to do it. I dare you because if you did, you'd have Elijah and my friends come after you."
"Oh, I will." She smirked, immobilizing Elena and started slowly draining her of her blood with magic and putting it in small jars located in her bag. Elena screamed at the pain she was in due to the needle in her as blood drained from her body and the teen was coughing up blood, her vision turned blurry and she felt like she was dying when she felt a rush of adrenaline run through her. She screamed and fell backwards into the wall as a rush of power overcame her. I'm so sorry, Elijah. She thought as she fell to the ground. Esther moved towards the girl who got up and magically cut the brunette's hand before the blood was poured from a vial into the bowl. Little did she know, her life would be changed forever.
Esther was surprised but smirked nonetheless as she harnessed the energy Elena just unleashed into a tailsman while lifting the sage so others can hear before teleporting away with the blood she collected from Elena's body.
Elena passed out on the ground, her screams dying down. Crystal rings. Esther addresses the guests from the staircase. She has a glass of red-tinged champagne in her hand.
"Good Evening, Ladies and Gentleman. Waiters are coming around with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers!"
"Cheers!" Everyone yelled.
Everyone drinks from their glasses, including all the Original vampires, except Elijah who looks around for Elena. He felt emotions that weren't his own and sensed danger as he saw Elena looking lifeless before he followed a pull that wasn't under his control. It's as if his vampire side was taking over and it was true since dark veins appeared beneath his eyes, his fangs appeared and he vamp sped to the room he was pulled into. He found Elena on the ground just like he saw moments before. She woke up a few seconds later, finding a non vamped out Elijah looking at her worriedly.
"Elijah?" She asked, looking around.
"Are you okay?" He asked
Elena explained everything before she stood up and hugged him. "I'm sorry." She frowned.
"It's okay." He hugged back.
She kissed him before pulling away. "Let's get out of here before she comes back." She said, walking out the door with him.

In the foyer, Damon is walking behind Elena.
"Elena. Did you get what you want?"
"Actually, yes." She lied, tired of him and Stefan's behavior.
"Good, tell me on the ride home. We're leaving. Come on."
Damon grabs her by the arm.
"Uh no, Damon let go of me. Look, I'm sorry that I had to cut you out of the plan."
"There shouldn't have been a plan. You shouldn't be here."
"Do you think I like going behind your back? I don't, but if I hadn't asked Stefan to help, then you would've tried to be the hero, and it would've ruined everything."
"Sorry for trying to keep you alive. Clearly Stefan doesn't give a crap anymore."
"Now you're mad at me for including Stefan?"
"No, I'm mad at you because I love you!"
"Well, maybe that's the problem." Damon is visibly rocked by this. "No. That's not what I-"
"No, I got it, Elena. I care too much. I'm a liability. How ironic is that?"
Caroline comes up to them.
"Have you guys seen Matt?"

Meanwhile, Matt is walking past the balcony when he hears his name whispered at him from the balcony. Matt stops, and walks onto the balcony. No one is there. Matt turns and is just about to leave when Kol appears behind him.
"Good evening. You're Rebekah's friend. We haven't met."
"Matt Donovan."
They shake hands.
"Kol Mikaelson."
Kol starts squeezing Matt's hand tightly.
Suddenly an audible cracking sound is heard.
"Aah!"
Matt falls to the floor. Damon is behind him.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey!" Damon said.
"Aah!"
"Easy on the hand. Guy's a quarterback."
Damon rushes at Kol and pushes him off the balcony and jumps after him. Damon then beats up Kol and snaps his neck. Stefan comes running out of a door.
"Damon! Are you crazy?"
The rest of the Mikaelsons and Elena come out from the opened door and see what happened.
"Maybe a little." He looked at Elena. "Far be it from me to cause a problem."

Esther is in her study. Elijah is with her.
"No violence, that was all I asked. Rebekah and Kol disgraced our family tonight."
"It won't happen again, mother. I'll deal with them."
"Thank you, Elijah. I wish the others were more like you."
Elijah leaves. Finn comes in and shuts the doors.
"Are we all right to speak freely?"
"Yes, the sage still burns."
Esther writes her children's names on a piece of paper in Runic handwriting.
"You aren't having second thoughts, are you?"
"Of course not, it's just Elijah. He's so moral."
"You're doing the right thing, mother."
"You understand what this means, don't you? This spell I'm casting tonight will bind you all together as one."
"I understand. When it is time, I will be ready to die."
"Then we must complete the link."
Esther cuts Finn's hand and blood spills onto the paper. She starts to recite a spell. "Phasmatos inta grum vin callus...Amalon callagius accodam...Cosom naben dox...Callagius amalon...Gaeda callagius ceremum...Phamato descendium vinum...Phasmatos inta grum vin callus...Cosom naben dox."
The blood spreads across the scroll, connecting the names together like the branches of a tree.
"The link is complete. You are one." She said before the blood moved back to its original position in the middle of the paper and NOT binding them together.
"That bitch!" Esther yelled.

Stefan walks Elena inside the Gilbert house.
"So uh, Esther wants to kill her whole family. How is that for Mother of the Year?"
"Yeah and I got to look Elijah right in the eye and lie to him about it."
"Well, good. I can't say I'll be sorry to see any of them go."
"I just signed their death sentences, Stefan."
"No, you signed Klaus' death sentence, Elena. Everyone else is just collateral damage."
"It's not that simple."
"Their family has brought you nothing but darkness, Elena. It is that simple. So, uh...where's Damon? I would think that he'd wanna make sure you got home safely."
"I'll call him and let him know."
"What was with him going after Kol?"
"Damon being self-destructive. I said something I didn't mean."
"So did I. Anyway, uh, good night."
Stefan leaves, but Elena goes after him.
"Stefan. Did you really not feel anything?"
"When?"
"How do you do that? Act like you don't care, like you don't feel anything? Because I can't do that. I...I feel. I feel everything."
"Elena, stop."
"I'm not going to stop, Stefan, because I don't believe that you feel nothing."
"What? You think I want to be this person? I hurt you, Elena. I bit you. I hate myself for what I did to you."
Elena grabs Stefan's face in her hands.
"Then show it! Do something, Stefan, anything is better than trying to convince me that you don't care."
"I can't."
"Stefan."
Stefan grabs Elena's wrists and removes her hands from his face.
"If I let myself care, all I feel is pain."
Stefan leaves. Elena is visibly upset.

Matt is sitting at the bar, drinking coffee. He has a bandage around his right hand which was crushed by Kol. Rebekah walks up to him.
"Hi. What are you doing?"
"Well let's see, I went to a dance and got my hand crushed. I found out that I don't have health insurance, so I just needed a minute to myself."
"Well, I thought, maybe I'd buy you an apology drink."
"Maybe you could just leave me alone."
"Look, I'm-I'm really sorry about Kol. He's a lunatic."
"Look, Rebekah, you're really fun and pretty and all, but I really need you to leave me alone."
Matt gets up and leaves. Damon walks up to Rebekah carrying a nearly-empty alcohol bottle.
"Burn. Rejected by the captain of the football team. Welcome to adolescence."
He drinks the last of the bottle.
"Shut up, Damon. Knew I should have killed him. Mother wouldn't let me."
Damon grabs a liquor bottle from behind the counter.
"Well...never let people tell you what to do."
Damon pours a shot for himself and Rebekah. They drink them. "Besides...you would have broken him in a second."
"Are you suggesting I can't be gentle?"
"No. I'm just saying that you should find someone a little more durable. That's all."
"And who would that be?"

They go to the boarding house and enter Damon's bedroom in a heated make out session. They rip each other's clothes off and Damon continues kissing Rebekah on the neck.

Later that night, Elena was about get changed for bed when she saw Elijah in her room, which stopped her. "What is it?" Elena asked.
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this." He said.
"I was going to be dragged into it no matter what. Regardless of Stefan and Damon, Klaus and Katherine would have eventually found me due to my doppelgänger status."
"Did you want to stay with us where you'll be safe or did you want to stay here and have someone guard you?" He asked with the same expression he always had, but this one seemed more intense and comforting.
"I'll stay with you since I have to tell the others and you something anyways."
"Don't worry. I'll tell them."
Elena's expression was the same one she had when she realized Elijah found a way to save the life of the doppelgänger in the past when they were talking at the Lockwood mansion. "How did you know?"
"I just did somehow. Not exactly sure." He replied.
"Interesting."
"I felt your pain moments before." He replied.
"I think I'm going to go home and sleep."
She grabbed everything she needed before putting it in a duffel bag and writing a note to Jeremy. They left the house and went back to the mansion. Elena followed him as he led her to his bedroom. Once they were in there, Elena went to grab her clothes and everything else she'd need before taking a long and relaxing bath/shower while Elijah waited in his room. Half an hour later, Elena walked out in a pair of comfy pajama bottoms and a long sleeve shirt. Her hair was wet and makeup was gone. She put the dress in the duffle bag along with the gloves and shoes, plus hair accessories.
"You look beautiful." Elijah said.
"So I didn't before in that dress and makeup?" She teased him.
"You've always been beautiful to me." He said, smiling at her. She laid down on the bed.
"I could sleep for a week after tonight. How are you feeling about all this?" She asked.
"I'm mainly worried about you."
"Funny. I was thinking the same thing." She replied, looking at him.
"I've faced worse."
"So have I." She said before she fell asleep on his bed. He got up from where he was sitting and covered her up with a blanket before he got showered and changed himself. Once he was done, he got in bed and held her close to him. He vowed he'd never let anyone with malicious intentions even think of going near her. He let her in and he never lets anyone in. He's always had affection for her, but now it's gotten much more serious and it had nothing to do with Katherine or even Tatia. Sure, they all share the same face and physical features/body, but Elena's not them. She's her own person and even though she has some similar traits of Tatia-believing in the freedom of choice being one of them-she'd never be able to pull off being heartless like Katherine has. That's the major difference between his first love and her modern counterpart compared to their manipulative one. He never wanted Elena to lose her humanity which is what drew him to her in the first place with her compassion.
"I'm in love with you. There's no else." Elijah confessed as he kissed her forehead before falling asleep as well.

The next morning, Elena woke up and looked at him as he slept, never used to seeing him actually relaxed and vulnerable before since he's always on guard when he's awake and is constantly watching over his shoulder to protect his family, just like she does.
"It's rude to stare." He said, feeling her eyes on him.
"Sorry." She replied. "We need to talk to your siblings." He woke up and they got ready.
"Meet us in the living room." Elijah said, knowing his siblings would be able to hear him especially since they were all awake.
"Where is Rebekah?" Kol asked as Elijah and Elena walked inside the living room.
"I have a feeling I know." Elena pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"Well, if it isn't Katherine 2.0." Damon said and Elena flinched at the insult. "Siding with the Originals, especially Elijah."
"Where's Rebekah?"
"Right here." Damon said, looking at the blond who was asleep next to him.
"Get her over to her family's place or else." Elena said.
"What are you doing to do, Elena? Kill me?"
"No, but I know things about you and if a certain someone found out regarding someone I know, it won't end well for you." Elena said, deadly calm and serious.
"Oh, god. Elijah's rubbing off on you. Now you're starting to talk like him."
"Damon, I am no mood. Tell her to come back to the mansion or I will say something that will make you regret calling me Katherine 2.0. I am NOT her and I never will be. You and Stefan have both showed up because he thought I was her and you tried to get me to be like her. Now you know how I feel about the comparisons between us. How does it feel when I compare you to your brother? Doesn't feel so good does it? I am so not giving you a chance after this and I am done with Stefan since he tried to drive me off wickery bridge knowing my parents died there! Rebekah here ASAP or else." She hung up and put her phone in her pocket. Rebekah vamp sped over there. Elena looked at the Originals. "I know two of you don't like me, but I need to know if we can be overheard and if there's anyone else in the building."
"No and no. What's going on?" Elijah asked, looking at her.
"Esther was watching me. She wants to link all of you together. Kill one of you and the rest go down too. Finn is part of her plan since he's decided to sacrifice himself to get rid of the abominations you all are." She replied. "Esther's words, not mine. I might not like Klaus while he and Rebekah may not like me very much, but I couldn't let that happen. The champagne you were all going to drink tonight was laced with my blood to make it work. I asked her what she would do if I went straight to you and explained. She said she'd kill me." She replied, not mentioning the part of making Elijah watch or about him killing Tatia. She didn't feel like confronting his feelings for her right now since she was still physically and mentally drained from the night before.
