AN: Alright, here we have the start of my 'whole world uses the game system' story. The first few chapters will involve setting up the characters and how this world differs from their canon ones.
In Defiance
Chapter 1
-Harry-
Gritting his teeth, Harry carefully did what he could to bandage his injuries. The hay underneath him scratched at his skin, the night breeze whistling through the old empty barn he was forced to sleep in.
"Status." He whispered, knowing the Dursleys shouldn't be able to hear him from the house they were sleeping in, but he didn't want to take any chances, not with what his plans were. At his command, an illusion like screen appeared, listing his information.

Minimizing the drop downs before banishing the status screen, Harry let out a sigh. He could feel the moon rising, midnight approaching by the second. 'Tomorrow' he'd be seventeen and come of age, finally able to pick his starting class and reach level one, getting his unique 'personal passive' along with it.
"Hopefully that debuff's name will finally show itself so I can figure out how to get rid of it." He grit out as he finished tying a makeshift bandage around the cut on his arm. Dudley had been even more of a smug bastard ever since getting his class a couple weeks before, having selected to become a warrior rather than a merchant like his dad. But then again, Vernon Dursley had barely managed to reach his Journeyman class and Harry had seen some people still in their Beginner Merchant class doing better than the fat bastard.
Didn't make living with them any safer though.
The second ticked by before he whispered again "Status." And this time, the screen was different.

He didn't even need to think, having already decided his class long ago. 'Mage', just like his parents had been before they'd died, and he'd been given to his mother's sister who was leaving the 'Arcane Kingdom'. A kingdom that claimed to be a Noocracy, 'ruled by the wise' when in reality it was ruled by Mages. The older a magical bloodline, the more power and authority a mage had in the society. First generation mages weren't treated the best there, but they were still seen as far more important than anyone who wasn't a mage class, whether it be for combat or labor.
Over the years he'd been able to piece together what little he knew. That his mother had been a first-generation mage, while his Aunt didn't have a drop of ability to use spells no matter how high her stats for Intelligence or Wisdom might have been. The bitter woman and her equally bigoted husband had happily packed up their belongings and gone to another Kingdom, one where Mages were reviled for existing.
Tapping the 'Mage' option, Harry had to force his jaw shut so as not to scream. Agonizing pain surged through him, starting from his scar till it felt like his every nerve was on fire. He felt tears stream down his face while blood and some sort of viscous substance oozed from the scar on his forehead. It kept going till he felt like he was going to shatter from the agony of it all, but then it stopped just as suddenly as it started.
#$ %##!$# Debuff successfully analyzed. #$ %##!$# Debuff caused by scar being used as a Phylactery. Foreign soul attached to 'Child Class' purged upon Class Ascension. Phylactery Debuff removed.

Closing his Menu, still short of breath, Harry let a wide grin split his face. He had his class, now he had to get out of here. Lifting an old floorboard of the barn, he pulled out his travel pack he'd smuggled away, taking an old bag Dudley had thrown out ages ago and kept it hidden. Whenever he could do so without getting caught, he'd steal a coin here, pilfer a coin there. Always from the Dursleys and never more than they'd notice.
Slipping out, the moon high overhead and the lights off in the Dursley home, Harry bolted down the road, casting his 'lesser haste' spell whenever the last use had worn off to keep him moving faster.
He could smell the salty air of the docks long before he saw the ships, their masts rising high into the air like spears. Even in the slowly rising dawn, he could see those with the 'Sailor' class already hard at work, preparing to set sail. But more pressing was the blonde girl standing in the road, a strange smile on her face.
"Hello Harry Potter." The girl gave him another unusual smile as she pulled up part of her status screen in a way that he could see it, "I'm so glad to finally meet you. I think we're going to be wonderful friends."

AN: I'm going to try to explain the different facets of class tiers and such as the story progresses but one bit of information that will help with understanding from the start is that the 'average' of each stat for someone who's level zero about to turn 17 is ten across the board. That's the baseline.
AN2: Short Chapter I know but I wanted a chapter to introduce Harry and the next to introduce Percy before everyone starts to meet up. Plus, I've got family stuff going on and I wanted to post this while I had a chance.
