I do not own the Aliens Franchise.

I do own a digital copy of the movie.

Alien Evolution

Epilogue

The ocean surf crashes in, makes it almost all the way up to their toes.

And rolls back out again, retreats.

The sun is blinding but the sunglasses she bought at a sidewalk stand keep them stylishly and inexpensively protected.

The breeze carries the taste of salt and cools the beads of perspiration on her skin.

She can hear music to her left and feel her daughter's hand safely in hers.

They're not where they once were; they're not where they will be.

She still cries at night and holds Newt when the child cries in the day.

She's a tough old bitch and she intends to stay that way because her daughter needs safety and protection in this world and any others they may ever go to.

She's not too proud to wait tables or drive a loader for enough pay to put food on their table.

And she's not too tough to cry at night when her bed feels empty and alone.

She still misses him every day.

Like she misses Amanda.

She lives for Newt, for herself.

There was something she wishes she had told him that night on the beach, the night she stared into the fire and listened to the ocean.

She thinks he would have liked to know it, at least for a little while.

She thinks it would have brought a smile to his handsome, scarred up face, would have brought a light to his eyes and that dimple to his cheek.

But she didn't tell him.

She thought there might be time.

And then later she thought it might make him too fearful for her, keep him from being able to stay frosty.

And now he'll never know and there's nothing she can do to change that.

Like she can't change a lot of things she wish she could.

Whatever it is, she can't change this one fact either.

And she vacillates back and forth on if she even would.

Ellen Louise Ripley is pregnant.

"Hey."

At the time, it seemed like a symbol of hope, starting a new life.

Tentative and hesitant as it was.

"You okay?"

She was going to tell him.

But she let the moment slip away.

"Mmmh."

And now she can only hope it's his . . .

"Okay."

. . . and not theirs.

"Let's go."
