The three of them stood not more than a few feet apart. Ahsoka had gone out for a bit; she'd come back in a few minutes.
Obi-Wan glared at Anakin; well, it wasn't a condescending or disappointed 'glare' as such, though Yoda certainly had this himself. Anakin felt embarrassed.
"Master Yoda." He spoke.
"Killed the Emperor you did," said Yoda. "Thought it was possible not, for one to come back."
"I know, Master. There's no excuse. There's no redemption. There's nothing here. I've gone too far."
"You have gone too far, Anakin, that is undeniable. But you have returned," Obi-Wan sad.
Anakin considered his words. He decided to permit his more intimate sentiments and emotions to drive the conversation further. "Thank you for allowing me to be here with my wife." He told both of them.
"You'll have to thank Organa for that." Obi-Wan said; though it was the same action he would have taken for Anakin. He still loved him – despite it all – and was proud? Even of the fact that he came back. Anakin deserved to be with the family he loved, although having a family was the first law of the Jedi that he broke. It was natural to have feelings, but Anakin succumbed to it, and allowed it to determine him and his destiny.
"I'm exiled. I'll leave this galaxy. I don't know where to… I don't. But I'll go as dictated by the Senate."
"Redeemed you are not, Skywalker." Yoda finally said, back to the earlier conversation. Both of them had ignored Anakin's last statement.
Anakin didn't say anything to the news he already expected; this judgement only strengthened his feelings guilt - how he let down everyone who trusted him and believed in him. "But your destiny, of redemption, it is not."
Anakin raised his eyebrows.
Obi-Wan too was intrigued. What was Anakin's destiny then?
The nurse droid, though interrupted this interesting conversation. "The patient, Senator Padme has regained consciousness - but the delivery must be performed immediately."
Anakin so far had felt strangely comforted in some sense by this exchange with Obi-Wan and Yoda. And before that, he felt so soothed with Ahsoka. He had a change of psyche and emotion.
I was misguided.
My destiny is not of redemption, perhaps, but what's happened so far, proves that my fear - that led to anger and then to hate and then too suffering was not my destiny either. Perhaps I have no destiny than that what was chosen by me. But I chose on wrong fears.
He walked into the room and saw Padme - she was not completely upright but she looked at Anakin - and so much joy was seen on her face. She looked as if she finally saw the face of the man she fell in love with.
Anakin lost it. The mask he had worn of darkness to hide his vulnerability had been lost earlier; that was replaced by a serene, cool, and remorseful attitude. But that too was lost. He ran and threw himself on Padme hugging her wholeheartedly. And a few tears escaped him.
"I've been so worried about you, Padme."
"Our baby will be born now, Anakin," she smiled, "Forget about me like you should have long ago and prepare to me the best father you can be."
"I'll love you all. Love has not blinded me now. It had earlier. But not anymore."
"He'll be a happy healthy baby." Padme said.
The droid said, calmly but still robotically. She turned to Obi-Wan and Yoda instead for some reason. "She's carrying twins. A boy and a girl."
This was stranger news for Anakin! He hadn't expected this. He didn't like his expectations being constantly subverted. But I suppose it's fine… he thought. It's all right. It'll be Padme and I's son and daughter. She'll be a great mom.
"I will ask you step back. We're beginning the delivery procedure immediately."
Anakin stepped back as asked. There was so much love around, even Obi-Wan displayed him. There was nothing he could do but to stop melting. And his fears finally fell apart – an innocence and hope arrived within him – he knew now that everything within him was paranoia. While, he'd be exiled, he'd still have his family – his children and Padme. The visions were flawed. There have been no complications in thousands of years with medical technology. Padme would be well and alive. And they'd have a happy life together…. Or as happy as could be, and as happy as he deserved after all of this.
