Hello! Wow, it's been such a long time since I've wrote anything on here. Minus the author's notes. But this is my first time writing anything Danny Phantom related so this will be very fun.
Little context before we begin, This is heavily inspired by BROKEN PHANTOM by Bloody kitsune264. With permisson, I basically just used the same plot. It'll just have a lot more stuff happening in between of what the original author wrote. So, enjoy my little adaptation. Please check out Bloody Kitsune's work as you do.
Disclaimer: I do NOT own Danny Phantom or any characters from the show. They belong to Butch Hartman, who you can support if you want to.
(The nostalgia)
Anyways, let's get to it!
Chapter one: Backstabber
For the second time in his life, Danny Fenton's world came crumbling down around him. Betrayal was the farthest thing from his mind when it came to his friends and family. Yet, he was imprisoned and shackled like a beast. As if he were a weirdo. His green eyes followed the GIW operatives as they ran around him. Presumably getting ready for an experiment. When he noticed hands approaching him, Danny let out an animalistic growl. When he felt a jolt shoot through his body, he tightly clenched his eyes in anguish.
He was hauled down the corridor after being pushed out of the cell he had been placed in. Danny's eyes started their regular pattern of scouring the corridor for potential escape routes. His gaze met and fled away from a couple agents as he walked by.
Because the inhibitors he was given depleted his powers greatly, the number of guards gradually decreased over the months. Still, he couldn't let down his guard. He needed to conserve as much of his power as possible. The agent came to a halt in front of a closed door, nodding to the guard before reaching out to open it.
Danny opened the door to his home and immediately paused upon entry. A sense of nostalgia just rammed into him like a truck, and it wasn't the good kind. He turned around to look at his porch, almost expecting to see a younger boy staring back up at him with wide, green eyes. He sighed, shaking his head as he closed the door. It had been two years since the accident. Two years to train and perfect his powers. He used the time to protect Amity from ghosts who escaped out of the portal as 'Danny Phantom' for crying out loud, he needed to get past this. Currently as Fenton, instead of his old white and red shirt, he wore a crème colored NASA hoodie and baggy blue jeans, keeping his red sneakers. Though the clothes were slightly dirty, it wasn't very noticeable. He had just finished his game of cat and mouse with Skulker; the self-proclaimed Greatest Hunter of the Ghost Zone. He was used to their fights, but this one went on a little longer than usual, and now the sun was low in the sky. There was time to eat and study, at least, but the thing that was calling him the most was his bed.
He rubbed a new bruise on his shoulder before he looked around the empty living room. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Normally, he'd at least see Jazz reading on the couch or his parents in the kitchen. 'Something's wrong.' His mind told him, but he brushed the thought away.
"Mom, dad? Jazz?" He called out, going upstairs to look further. "You guys home!" He waited on the steps for a reply.
"We're in the lab, sweetie!" He heard his mom yell out. "Could you come down and give us a hand?"
Danny felt relief bubble up in his core, but that off feeling didn't completely go away. Instead, it doubled the moment he found himself opening the door to the lab. It was eerily quiet and dimly lit. He started to walk down until he heard his sister's voice.
"Don't." She said, her voice came to him like a whisper. With his advanced hearing, he still heard her clearly. "They know." Danny froze. His breath hitched. They knew? His parents.. "Run."
Danny blinked repeatedly at the bright fluorescent lights once he walked into the lab. He was greeted with the usual scene of an operation table. Next to it was a table full of different tools and equipment. There was a feeling of dread as he looked over the tools. Ah man, this was going to be painful. His eyes finally lifted up from the table as he was greeted by two sickeningly happy people.
His parents were waiting on him. That much was obvious. They already heard him open the door, it was only a matter of time before they went up to get him themselves. Danny narrowed his eyes at the bottom of the steps, taking a deep breath before he duplicated himself; going ghost as he did so. He nodded at his duplicated self and turned invisible, following as it continued walking down the stairs. Once they reached the bottom, Danny left from behind his clone to roam the lab.
He didn't get far, spotting Jazz tied up, hands behind her back and ankles tied in front of her, in the middle of the dim room. "Jazz," both Danny and his duplicate breathed out, running towards the red head. However, once the duplicate was away from the steps, it let out a pained cry. The sound made Danny turn to see the duplicate falling to the ground, his parents behind it. Maddie was pointing one of their Fenton Wrist Rays at the fallen boy, while Jack held the weapon that caught the duplicate; the Jack O' Nine Tails.
Danny silently gasped, but continued to make his way towards Jazz. After all, the duplicate was made for a distraction. Still invisible, Danny went behind Jazz silently notifying her that he was there by whispering to her. He couldn't help but snicker from seeing her freaked out reaction. The moment his duplicate broke free from the Jack O' Nine Tails, Danny freed his older sister and turned her invisible along with him.
"Where'd he go?" Jack said. Danny realized his duplicate also turned invisible. With a nod, Danny picked up Jazz, turned intangible and flew out of the lab and the house.
Once they were far enough from FentonWorks, Danny placed Jazz safely on a roof where they couldn't be seen, dropping their invisibility. Before he could open his mouth, Jazz beat him to the punch. "Are you okay? Why did you come down there?! I told you to run!" She was pointing back and forth between the two Danny's, not sure on who was the original.
"Jazz, slow down," Danny spoke, his hands up. "I'm okay. I made a duplicate-" He motioned his head to said duplicate next to him. "Before going down. He was the one that got shocked. Not me. Plus you couldn't have expected me to just leave you alone down there when you sounded like that."
The halfa followed his parents further inside the lab, their muffled voices barely reaching his ears as he stared them down. He was led to the operation table, watching his mother speak about — what he could only guess was — what they were going to do today. His father was securing him to the table, and more inhibitors were being put onto him. Fortunately for him, they didn't hurt any more than the first few times he put them on. Despite this, they left him feeling ill.
Upon request, Danny weakly pushed against the metal binds around his wrist. Like Maddie and Jack wanted, it kept him in place. They looked at each other with a satisfactory nod before turning away from the sixteen year old. Leaving him to stare, or rather glare, at their backs.
Jazz blinked and sighed. "That was, admittedly, a smart idea. But I still think you should've left when you heard me."
Danny looked at his sister, quizzically. "With mom and dad like that? No way." He shook his head, arms crossed. "How did they even find out?"
"They wouldn't say. All I know is they got a call and came to me to see if it was true or not. I said it was ridiculous, of course!" She quickly added on. "But they seemed determined to say the least."
You'd think after all these experiments they'd drop the "You're not our son" or "Stop pretending we're your parents." He almost wanted to laugh at how stubborn they were. Well, stubborn being the nicest way to put it. The irony of the situation was tiring. But he did eventually give up trying to talk to the Fentons.
He missed Jazz.
With a nod, Danny took in the information. There was nothing he wanted more than to lie down on his bed, but he couldn't do that now. What should they do now? It's not like they could go into the Zone now. Then it came to him. "Sam and Tuck."
Jazz's eyebrows pressed together. "What about them?"
Danny resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "We'll go to them for help. Come on, Sam's is the closest."
"Of course you land near your girlfriend's place." Jazz mumbled but obliged. Being lifted into the air once more. Her gaze caught the duplicates. "What about him?"
Danny followed Jazz's gaze and shrugged. "Not sure, but I feel like he should stay around." He frowned. He couldn't explain why. But that feeling of dread he was getting from his house didn't die down. As they flew closer to Sam's, they noticed a few vehicles outside her place.
"Aren't those owned by the GiW?" Jazz asked.
Her brother answered with a solemn nod. "This can't be good." He muttered, turning invisible as he flew to Sam's window. Both him and his sister looked inside. Right in front of their eyes, they saw Sam talking to Operative K and other agents. With the way they were standing it looked like they were waiting for something.. or someone. Sam had her arms crossed, glaring at the agents. She was saying something. Danny tried to listen as closely as he could from the window. He didn't want to risk actually going inside through the wall.
"I'm telling you he'll be here." Sam huffed. "With how his parents are, I doubt he got hurt. This is literally the first place he'd go to."
"And the second?" Operative K asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Tucker's, probably." Sam answered with a shrug.
Operative K was silent for a moment before he spoke. "For the scum's girlfriend, you're going along with this quite easily. Were you planning on ratting him out before today?"
Danny's breathing hitched. Ratting him out? Did that mean Sam was the one that told his parents? That told the GIW? He was hoping to see Sam's usual glare before snapping at them. Instead he saw her roll her eyes and nod.
Sam was about to say something else until her phone rang. "It's Tucker." She clarified before answering the call, holding her phone up to her ear. "Is Danny there? No.." The one way conversation continued like any other. Then she gasped. "I'll let them know." She said on the phone before hanging up.
The goth looked at the GIW agents and said a name Danny never wanted to hear in this situation. Danielle. He felt something in his core throb at the sheer thought of his clone- no, his cousin getting hurt. It might be because she was a clone, but Danny felt that Danielle was more than a cousin as the years passed. Like a baby sister.
Deciding that he heard enough, Danny flew off from the window. His lips pressed together. He felt Jazz's eyes on him. Sighing, he began to speak. "Sam, and I'm guessing Tuck, sold me out to our parents and the GIW. Now they're looking for me. To capture me no doubt.." He heard Jazz gasp. Danny lowered to an empty ally. Placing Jazz down. "But right now, I need to find Tucker. I'll be back soon'" Danny gave Jazz a grin before flying off. For a brief moment, he heard her yell out name. His eyes began scanning the streets for his 'friend's' red cap. Then he spotted those same vehicles from the GIW. He lowered down to them and there he found Tucker with more agents. They were seen circled around Danielle. The younger halfa looked exhausted. Like she was on the verge of collapsing. She was holding a bleeding arm, her clothes torn and dirtied from ecto-blasts shot from the agents. From the look of it, it seemed that they were going to start firing again.
Danny felt anger bubble up inside him. He shot ecto-beam around the agents, shielding their vision as he dove down and grabbed Danielle before she collapsed to the ground— Wasting no time to fly away once she was in his arms. It hurt the older halfa to see someone he recently considered his cousin-sister-clone hurt so badly. He didn't even realize she was back in Amity. But, knowing Danielle, she was probably going to surprise him. He had a brief smile on his face at the thought before frowning. Why was this happening? Why now? Right when he finally had most things figured out. When he was happy.
Why is this happening to him? He didn't choose to be like this. Hadn't his parents accepted him before? What makes this time so different?
He was forced to put those thoughts aside when he felt the girl in his arms shift. Right. More than anything, he needed Danielle to be safe. The only problem was that he was exhausted from having to fight Skulker. Even more so due to the general duplicate. He could tell he wasn't flying as fast as he used to. There was only hope that he would be able to get away from the group of agents—wait, the duplicate! Did it follow him? Danny found himself looking around for... well, himself. Thankfully, he discovered the duplicate still trailing him. Danny sighed and nodded down to an alley before flying down. The duplicate followed after.
"I need you to take Dani to Valerie." Danny told the duplicate, once they landed in their brief safe spot.
"Valerie?" The duplicate looked at Danny, mildly surprised. "Is that a good idea?"
Valerie was the first to come to Danny's mind. Not only because she knew about Danielle's existence, but they also had a year long truce going on. Long enough for him to trust her. He wants to trust her. He does trust her. He just hoped she wouldn't mind him (or the duplicate) appearing out of the blue.
Danny eventually nodded. "I trust her. At least we started out as enemies first." He carefully placed the young girl in his duplicate's arms. "Be careful, cadet."
The duplicate rolled his eyes. "I should be telling you that." With a chuckle from Danny, the duplicate turned invisible and flew off to find Valerie, leaving the teen alone.
Was that the right decision? What if he'll never see Danielle again..? No. He can't think like that. He'll get out of here, thank Val, and give Dani a big hug. Danny shut his eyes, the noises in the lab drowning out the more he thought about when that moment arrived.
In the alley, Danny was catching his breath. He leaned against the wall, checking to see if his duplicate had gone far enough. It took a reminder, that the GIW was still coming, for him to push himself off the wall and to be prepared to fly away the moment he spotted them nearby. Based on what Sam and Tucker may have told them, he'd still be sought even if he was regular Danny Fenton. That single thought sparked a flood of rage. Why on earth were they even helping the GiW? After everything they did together? It angered him. Infuriated. Enraged. Yet, it didn't last long. The fury he felt turned to sorrow and disappointment. He mildly understood his parents, but his best friends? The ones he trusted everything with. He had every right to be upset- to be angry at them. So why won't that anger stay? Deep down, he knew why. There was a feeling that he recognised the moment he overheard that conversation in Sam's room.
He shook his head. It's not the time.
Being sure that Dani was in a safer distance, Danny took back to the skies. Luckily for him, the streets were empty. Unfortunately for him, the streets were empty. Meaning it didn't take long for him to be seen by the GIW.
The chase started quicker than he expected. And when there's a chase.
"Whoa!" Danny exclaimed, just narrowly dodging an energy beam that flew in front him. He stopped and looked down to see some of the agents aiming Ecto-Guns in his direction. "Just my luck." He muttered, rolling his eyes.
It was at least a fifteen minute chase filled with flying and dodging. He didn't even know how far he flew until he noticed got to Casper High. Before he could even decide on where else to go, a missile was heading his way. Danny tried quickly to make a shield. Barely managing to block it, but was still hit by the impact; making him stumble in the air. The stumble must have been seen because soon after multiple beams were heading his way. Danny was able to dodge a few, the rest however all hit him. Soon, he found himself falling to the ground with a thud.
Weakly, getting up to a standing position, he looked around. He was surrounded. With the agents, he saw both his parents and his former best friends. Sorrow hitting him once more. He's never seen friends look at him with such hate and..fear? He desperately wanted to ask them 'why were they doing this? Why now?' But his voice was caught in his throat. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know the answer.
Instead he kept fighting.
Danny jerked away from the sudden bright light that appeared in his vision.
Agent after agent.
He flinched at the sight of the tools.
No matter how much damage he received. Even while knowing he wasn't healing as fast.
Danny's eyes widened, realizing what the experiment was. He still hadn't healed from the last one. He started to try and break out from the restraints.
He had to keep fighting.
He has to keep fighting.
He had to.
So why did he stop?
His direction was unexpectedly turned to Sam. His fists wavered above him as he came to a stop. If he wasn't so focused he could've hurt her. He almost hurt her. She flinched because he almost hurt her. The fear that was on her face made his core throb. As he lowered his fist, a glowing green rope was soon wrapped and tightened around his wrist. Then the other. The Wraith Wrangler. With a strong tug, he was pulled back and onto the ground. Following after was a cold sensation around his neck. A painful shock shot through his body making him cry out in pain. His hands shooting up to what he collar.
But no matter how much he pulled, it wouldn't budge.
"Oh, Jack, look," Maddie's voice rang out, filled with curiosity. "It's almost like it feels pain."
"The ectoscum must be faking it to fool us into letting it go." Jack stated.
Maddie hummed. "That does make sense." She fiddled with the remote in her hand. Her attention on the ghost boy.
She was glaring at him from under her goggles. Holding her hand to her chest as she scolded the boy who was still convulsing from the shock. He had bit her as a last resort. It wasn't his best idea. Her voice was still muffled, a ringing replacing her, as his vision faded to black.
Danny watched her lips continue to move, but couldn't hear what she was saying. His vision was blurring from the damage he received, along with his exhaustion finally hitting him head on. He felt his duplicate merge back into him as he finally collapsed.
Aannd there's the first chapter done! I'm pretty far ahead with writing chapters, so depending on how this goes, I can probably post once a week. If my beta does their job faster, anyways. Might need two.
But hope y'all enjoyed. Have an amazing day/night!
