"How long are you going to do that?." The brunette asked.
The blonde woman chuckled. "Pardon?."
"How long are you going to do that?." The brunette asked again.
"Do what? How long am I going to do what?." The blonde asked specifically.
"How long are you going to bow to him? How long are you going to do that shit?." The brunette lifted her head and looked the woman dead in her eyes.
"I have to. It's part of the deal." The blonde replied.
"What deal?." The brunette stepped closer.
"That's private and I have told you more than enough." The blonde dug her heel into the ground.
"That's a lie. I can wait. But first, I need your help." The brunette took another step forward. She smiled when the Doctor held her ground.
"I already know you're Fae." The blonde never flinched as she stared into deep blue eyes.
"A what?." The brunette asked.
"A Fae. Fae is a general classification. There are many different types. Given your blue eyes, I'd say you're a Succubus." The blonde explained.
"Can you prove that for sure?." The brunette asked.
"Have you killed anyone recently?. The blonde asked.
"Before I get into that, I need to know your name. For if you betray me, I'll know what to carve on your tombstone." The brunette spoke softly. The blonde lifted her head. "I was kidding, doctor."
"My name is Lauren. Now, what's yours before I tell the Ash that you just threatened me." The woman stood up taller. She noticed their height difference and calculated the difference in their body weights should she need to put her combat training to use.
"My name is Bo." The brunette replied and froze when the doctor did.
"Is that short for something?." Lauren asked.
"Look, I just wanted to know what I am and what you could do about it. Fix it. Do something to stop me from killing people." Bo explained.
"Lying to them or omitting anything could cost me my life." Lauren stopped and turned around.
"You're not a fae? What are you then?." Bo asked.
"I'm a doctor like you said. I'm a human. Your people are my bosses" Lauren bowed her head.
"Tell me what I am for sure and I will end that bullshit." Bo gently lifted the woman's head with her finger.
Lauren smiled as the woman's eyes sparkled like an ocean wave. "Take me to one of your kills."
"Excellent." Bo turned and walked towards her bike.
"That's yours?." Lauren gasped.
"I have a car, too." Bo smiled over her shoulder as the blonde rocked on her boot. "Are you scared?."
"Of you, never." Lauren replied.
"Good to know." Bo smiled and climbed back off of her motorcycle. "We can walk if that will make you more comfortable."
The women walked mostly in silence for about a mile and Bo turned to walk down an alley. She kept her eyes on Lauren the whole way. She's not exactly sure what a Fae or succubus is but trusts this woman for some reason. However, if there is another succubus out there that can do what she can, she wants to keep the doctor safe from that. "I didn't have time to clean up. Someone came out of nowhere, so I hid him." She said pulling some newspaper scraps off of a man's face. Lauren nodded and knelt down over him. "Don't get anything on your lab coat." Bo cringed.
"How thoughtful of you, but it's ok. It is part of the job." Lauren pulled some gloves from her bag and put them on. She examined the man's face and took some mental pictures of it. "As I suspected, you're a succubus. There's nothing wrong with you, Bo. There's nothing that needs to be fixed other than to help you control your feeding." The doctor stood and pocketed her gloves.
"There's more." Bo kept her head down.
"That's all I need to see. We have people that can come and get them. Just give me addresses or coordinates" Lauren shook the scene from her thoughts.
"Will you get into trouble for this?." Bo lifted her head.
"No. Trick will be glad to know that I found something that needs to be cleaned up before humans find them. They can't find them and do autopsies without more questions being raised." Lauren pulled her jacket tightly against her body.
"You're cold. Let's get you somewhere where it is nice and warm." Bo walked away without waiting for the woman. She pulled a set of keys from her pocket and the next thing Lauren heard was an alarm beeping. "That's my car."
"You can certainly have anything that you want, can't you?." Lauren laughed.
"What I want next, I will earn." Bo spoke softly as she held the passenger side door for the woman to climb inside. "Where to?." She asked as the car warmed up and the heat flanked the doctor from all angles.
"Trick should be at the Dal." Lauren answered.
"I think I've seen that name, I just never went inside." Bo pulled away and Lauren smiled at how clean her car smelled but not as good as the brunette does. "This is it, right?." Bo looked across the street.
"That's it. It is a little late, he may not be up but he'll make time for this news." Lauren put her bag in the back seat and climbed out of the car. "Come with me." She held her hand out and Bo took it.
"I feel like a child." Bo laughed as they walked across the street still holding hands. Lauren smiled and dropped it.
The doctor pulled a heavy door open and pointed for Bo to walk inside. She knocked on another door and stood back. "Lauren? It is late." A man's head popped through the opening.
"I'm sorry, Trick. I...we have news." Lauren replied.
"Who is this?." Trick asked.
"My name is Bo." She looked at Lauren and back at the man.
"Trick we need a few minutes alone with you." Lauren grabbed Bo's hand again.
Trick looked at their fingers playing with each other. "I see. Come in."
"I will be brief, Ash, Bo is a succubus. She has a few kills that need to be cleaned up. I thought you might want to know immediately before the humans find them." Lauren explained.
"Addresses, coordinates? She'll need to sign my book." Trick handed Lauren a small notepad.
"Here you go, sweetie." Lauren smiled as she handed it to Bo. She watched the succubus scribble furiously.
"So, your name is Trick, right?." Bo asked as she finished writing.
"Yes. I'm Fitzpatrick McCorrigan. The Ash most importantly." Trick smiled up at the woman.
"Trick, you and your people are no longer her boss. She's free of your shit as of right now." Bo replied.
"She's my CME and under contract to the Fae." Trick coughed in hysterics.
"You don't hear very well do you old man? I said she's free and you're done with her. I won't be signing a book either. Do I make myself clear now?." Bo lifted the man in the air and Lauren stood in awe as his skin turned pumpkin orange before the succubus dropped him to the ground. "Let's go, Lauren." A deep voice broke the doctor's daze.
Lauren nodded and followed the woman out. They kept their silence until they were a block down the road. "Where do you live? He doesn't control that too does he?." Bo asked.
"No. Nobody knows where I live because I take many different routes to get home. Besides, my contract had a no follow clause. Once my day was done, that's it until I showed up the next day." Lauren replied.
"That's it? Just a piece of paper between you?." Bo asked.
"Bo, he's old enough to be my fifth great-grandfather. That and he's not my type." Lauren laughed.
"I knew that. I was just making sure there's nothing else he can hold over your head." Bo smiled.
"What's with the smile?." Lauren asked.
"Come on, Lauren. The way you held my hand back there. The way he assumed I'm your girlfriend but didn't question it, either. I know you like me and for more than just my succubus prowess." Bo smiled again as they pulled to a stop light. She ran her hands against her leather pants and took some deep breaths.
"You want to kiss me, don't you?." Lauren asked. Bo's head snapped in the woman's direction. "I can read people too."
"I'm just hungry actually. It's the curse of being this succubus you called me." Bo replied.
Lauren turned the wheel with her left hand and pulled the car into a parking lot. "Bo, you are not cursed. There is nothing wrong with you. Nothing. You are just different, that's all. You shouldn't be ashamed of who you are. Now, if you are going to date me, I insist that you immediately get this bullshit out of your head. I'm not just a human, I'm a doctor too. I take that more seriously than anything else. I will help you with your feeding so that you don't have to kill anyone again." The blonde wiped Bo's tears away and dried her fingers on her pants.
"Lauren. It is not as glamorous as you think. It gets so dark that I can't control it. I do want to date you but I can't promise you will be safe with me." Bo whispered.
"Bo." Lauren laughed. "Your succubus has been on the surface since we met, if she wanted to harm me, she would have by now. I have read up on the subject in my downtime. They can be nasty and murderous. Yours hasn't been nasty or tried to kill me yet. Not even in this personally confined space."
"I knew I found a clever one." The succubus laughed. "You will be a lot of fun."
"I'm hungry too." Lauren leaned straight in her seat.
"We can go out and eat." Bo nodded and pulled out of the parking lot. After the women freshened up, they picked a restaurant. Bo insisted on a fireplace table so that the doctor wouldn't be cold again.
"So, how did you meet Trick? Why did he have you under contract?." Bo rambled off.
Lauren nearly choked on her drink at the onslaught of questions. "I went to the Congo on a research grant. His daughter was gravely ill, I did all I could to treat her and she eventually recovered. When my random tests didn't immediately improve her symptoms, he told me what they were. Now, the Elders got wind of a human in their presence and wanted my death. Trick saved my life by saying I would be his ward for as long as I breathe and never tell the humans about them. Years later, here I am, still breathing sitting in front of a you know what." Lauren pulled her drink to her lips again and actually drank it this time.
"Who are his people?." Bo asked softly.
"Bo, does it matter? We left them behind." Lauren leaned back in the booth.
"It matters to me because I want to make sure you are safe. I am not so much worried about myself as I am worried some idiot could come for you. Come for you in the ladies room. Come for you at your home. Come for you anywhere. I took you from those people. The least that I can do is protect you like he did." Bo waved the waitress off. She had already taken their order so there wasn't an immediate need for her to return. Besides, she looks like she wants Bo as a meal of her own.
"I can take care of myself but thank you." Lauren smiled over her glass before setting it down again.
"Lauren, you are not like me. Your intentions are good and people will try and take advantage of your good heart. It matches my black heart perfectly. I will be your protector. I will be your eyes and ears. Especially since I can read people. The minute I get a wrong read, well, let's just say it won't be pretty." Bo's face was flashing and Lauren made note of it.
"Okay. I will be more careful about who I treat and talk to. Better?." Lauren smiled at Bo's adorable protective nature.
"Hold on. Let me make this perfectly clear. I am not saying you can't protect yourself because you can and you obviously have. I am saying this is not your fight, alone, anymore." Bo leaned forward and took one of Lauren's hands. The doctor looked down at the gesture. "I wouldn't do that to you."
"I know. I know." Lauren shook her head.
"Good. It's good that you know." Bo smiled and pulled back. "Now, who are his people?."
"You really want to know, don't you?." Lauren laughed.
"I can make moves too, Lauren. He has released you but these Elders you mentioned might not like that. Frankly, I don't give a fuck what they don't like. But since it involves you, I will take care of these people. Just give me names, addresses or coordinates." Bo took a drink and leaned back as their food arrived.
"I will but not here." Lauren whispered.
"Fine. Eat your food, doctor." Bo smiled and stabbed her plate.
Time ticked on as they talked and exchanged life stories. Bo never grew bored listening to Lauren ramble on and on about any and everything. She shined brighter when she talked about science and being a doctor. Unbeknownst to the blonde, the brunette had spied on her for weeks before she finally got up the nerve to actually speak to her. Her words weren't everyday conversation words. The woman is very smart. A genius if Bo had to describe it in one word.
"Is this it?." Bo asked as Lauren handed her the list she asked for.
"That's it but Bo, don't kill them." Lauren frowned.
"Oh, I won't but they will never think of you again." Bo pocketed the list and started her car. The succubus pulled up and parked.
"Bo? Really? Do I look that easy?." Lauren laughed.
"What? It's been a long day and this is a neutral spot to get a good night's sleep. If you can control yourself, that is." Bo laughed as they walked into a hotel. The brunette walked to the counter and when it was time to pay leaned forward. "I'm a little short, can I come back at another time and pay?." She asked softly.
"Of course. Our best suite for these two." The clerk nodded at the bellhop.
"We don't actually have bags." Lauren looked around embarrassed at all the attention.
"He can show us to our room. They have towels, robes and a boutique for anything else that we may need." Bo smiled and followed the man. Suite was an understatement. Their room had everything that a full house holds. Separate everything. Including showers and full sized bathtubs.
Bo watched Lauren retire to her half of it and flopped down on the couch. She looked at the high ceiling and laughed at what she had gotten herself into. Like she thought before, she had watched this woman for weeks and now said woman was showering just a few feet away. Lauren hasn't mentioned friends or family, yet. But who cares if it gets that beautiful woman talking again about anything, Bo can wait forever for that conversation. She pulled her list out. It wasn't very long and neither was her patience with any kind of disrespect. She will honor her word to the doctor and not kill them but if she's attacked, she will defend herself short of killing them.
As for Bo, she doesn't have friends or family that she knows of. Knowing what she is, she wouldn't put that life on anyone else. She knows her real name. She knows Lauren a little bit and for now that's all she cares to know. She closed her eyes and the next thing she knew a soaking wet Lauren stood shaking her. "Bo? Bo wake up."
"What? What happened?." Bo sat up slowly.
"Oh, if you have forgotten last night, I won't tell you?." Lauren winked.
"We didn't?!. Did we?." Bo looked at her naked body just under two sheets and a blanket.
"I guess you will have to remember for yourself." Lauren sang as she walked away to dress.
Bo flopped back down on the bed and laughed heavily. "Lauren, your time is coming, woman. I guarantee you won't forget."
"What are you going on about?." Lauren smiled and laughed at the pouting succubus still naked in the bed.
"If I wasn't naked, I would let you have it." Bo laughed.
"You already have and I'm hurt that you don't remember." Lauren put her hands on her hips.
"Lauren..." Bo laughed.
"Lauren Lewis." Lauren finished her own name for her.
"Lauren Lewis, you are in for a treat." Bo patted the empty spot on the bed.
"I've already had dessert. I'm ready for breakfast." Lauren pulled a menu from a small table.
"We really didn't?." Bo asked.
"Of course not. It was fun to watch the almighty Fae get hot and bothered by it. You must have gone to bed sometime last night and when I showered this morning, I heard you moaning my name. Your blushing was cute too." Lauren smiled as she read the menu over.
"Order what you want and double it for me. I'm going to shower." Bo hopped up and Lauren turned the other way. She doesn't want to see Bo like that yet.
Bo said she had watched her. Her inquisitive mind wondered how she looked. How did her hair look? Was her makeup right? Did she look tired? Did she trip over her own feet? She smiled and took a seat. Once she found what she wanted to eat, she ordered their food. She set the menu down and looked out the window. The sun was on the verge of rising on a new day. Literally a new one for the blonde. She had just finished her duties for Trick when Bo called out to her. Now her books are literally clean and there are no duties to fulfill. She knows for sure he won't come looking for her. That succubus destroys everything she's ever read about them. Bo is caring and laser focused on what she wants. From the screams and moans last night, the blonde is 100 percent sure she wants her. She'll make her scream louder than that, when they are ready.
"Lauren, you are blinding me. Can we get out of bed or whatever you had me pinned on in your mind." Bo laughed as she blotted her hair dry.
"You're a scream come true, Bo." Lauren looked up.
"Wait. What?." Bo frowned and sat just across from the woman.
"There were times that I was so tired, that I screamed myself out of that world but knowing I could never leave muffled my screams. Muffled my voice. Trick was respectful and often kind but I wasn't free to do anything other than work for him and go home. I had no life. Nothing remotely as luxurious as all of this." Lauren pointed around the room. "You were my walking scream. You got me out of that and there."
"Lauren, I know you haven't mentioned any friends or family but I can help you find anyone that you need to find. You don't have to work for anyone but yourself. You are smart enough to do just that. I know human doctor's have private practices or clinics. We'll get you one of those, if you like. We don't have to be immediate lovers because we don't know everything about each other yet. Those conversations can wait because our food is here." Bo smiled and turned to go and get it.
"While I'm not a material girl, there are things that I do hold dear at home." Lauren took a bite of food after they were settled.
"Do you actually have a house, Lauren and not some secret motel room somewhere?." Bo asked.
"I could ask the same of you." Lauren looked at Bo and back at her plate.
"I literally have a shack. That's how I can keep my bike and car nice and shiny." Bo replied.
"I'll show you mine if you show me yours." Lauren grabbed her glass.
Bo lit up like a Christmas tree at Lauren's words and the doctor laughed. "Your shack, Bo. Your shack."
"Can't blame me for thinking about it." Bo shrugged.
"After last night, you think about it a lot." Lauren laughed and Bo playfully stuck her tongue out at the woman.
"We'll have to check out soon. Eat up." Lauren finished her own food and set the plate and empty glass on the cart.
"This is crazy." Bo buried her head in her hands.
"You walked into my life. You are not walking out now." Lauren gently rubbed Bo's back and pulled her hand away.
"My place first. I'm sure it's going to look like shit compared to yours." Bo stood and walked out of the hotel.
"Bo, I'm not shallow. Wherever you live will be fine because it will be your place. You don't seem like a slouch to me and don't think that I'm so uppity that I haven't literally been around filth. I'm a doctor, we are always ready for any environment. It will be fine." Lauren gently tapped the woman's leg.
Bo smiled and sped towards her shack. She pulled up. "That's it."
"Let's go check it out." Lauren smiled as she climbed out. Bo frowned and watched the woman walk up to the door. The blonde turned back "I can't go in without you."
Bo walked up and opened the first door and then the second. "Oh, Bo. It's nice!." Lauren smiled as she walked in. Swords and knives hung on one wall and the rest looked like a normal house. Wine bottles sat on a rack and a long couch set behind an equally long coffee table. "I don't have books or anything like that here. If you want to read something, I do have a desktop computer." Bo spoke softly as Lauren walked around the small counter and into the kitchen.
"I could make many meals here." Lauren ran her hand across the counter and looked at Bo.
"Lauren, until I can get Trick's people in line, I think you should stay here. There's an extra room up there." Bo pointed.
"Bo, I will be fine in my own bed. Like I said before, no Fae knows where I live." Lauren walked over to the woman.
"Then let's go there. I'll get to see how you live and what your surroundings are." Bo turned the lights off and walked ahead of the doctor.
Two hours later, and with a lot of twists and turns, they arrived. "Damn, you don't need my security." Bo laughed after parking. She watched the blonde open the door with her palm and entered the house. Just as Bo thought, everything was clean and shiny. "Are you going to see these people in person? If so, I need to go with you so you will know the way back."
"No. You will stay here. I can and will find my way back to you." Bo shook her head and gently waved her hand in the air.
"What is it, Bo?." Lauren asked.
"It is all you, Lauren. We are going to date and peacefully too. I promised you that I won't kill them and I won't but they will know not to come where they are not welcome or haven't been invited." Bo walked over to the woman. "I'll be back." She whispered as she held the woman's head in her hands.
Lauren watched her pull off and started a fire. Although it wasn't winter or cold yet, it comforted her. She grabbed a blanket and settled on the couch.
The blonde shot up when she smelled food cooking. "I told you I would be back." Bo winked as she turned back towards the stove. "How did you get in?." Lauren gasped. Bo twirled her orange hand in the air and Lauren watched it cool to normal.
"Do you want to help or am I doing this alone?." Bo asked over her shoulder.
"You will never do anything alone in here." Lauren smiled and jumped to her feet.
Fin.
