Mountain of a Million Steps

After Mario, Zane, Kai, and Nya left Ponyville after being informed of the Serpentine Staffs location, they were at the Dojo Temple to meet up with Master Wu and the others. Though, the Apple Family, including Applejack and Apple Shine, wanted him to stay and help harvesting the apples while the Cakes wanted him to babysit the twins, but Mario Star told them he had to leave Ponyville for a while after learning of the Serpentine Staffs location and Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the serpentine are heading that direction. Now, they're inside of the Dojo and Master Wu speaks to his students.

"After Nya, Zane, Morro, Lloyd, and I were able to recreate the map, we manage to discover only 3 location." Master We informed them. "The first Serpentine Staff is already taken at the Everfree Forest. But, we still have a chance to get the second Serpentine Staff."

"But Master Wu, Orochimaru and his group are already ahead of us, we need to get to them before they do." Skylor suggested.

"And we will, we just need to find out where." Kai told her.

"But, the location of the second Serpentine Staff is at the Mountain of a Million Steps." Zane said.

"Yes, it's a large mountain with long staircase winding around it, with a cavern near the top where the Constructai were sealed away." Master Wu adds.

"Mountain of a Million Steps?! You've gotta be kidding me!" Jay complains. "There's no way we can get there!"

"Um, you've got wings, remember?" Lloyd points out, raises his eyebrow.

"And we can even climb up there." Cole adds. "It may be a long one, but some of us are natural climbers."

Jay knows that Lloyd and Cole are right, but he still didn't like the idea of going to the Mountain of a Million Steps. He was about to protest, but Wu beats him to it.

"You'll be heading out, immediately. It only takes a few days to get to the Mountain of a Million Steps, but right now, time is not on our side." Master Wu told him students. "Take care and come back safely...with the Serpentine Staff. We can't have Orochimaru or the Serpentines get a hold of it."

The Elemental Masters, except Jay, nods as they're about to get ready for a long journey.

"Uh...can we-"

"Jay!" The Elemental Masters shouts, making the Master of Lightning flinch.

Jay reluctantly complied with a sigh as he joins with the others, leaving Master Wu alone as he quietly looks at the portrait of his brother next to him and the Princesses in his younger days.

"Garmadon, whatever you're planning to do with the Great Devourer, it won't help on your revenge nor forming an alliance with the serpentine." Master Wu said in grimace.

Master Wu felt concerned of his brothers plot, hoping that his students get to the Mountain of a Million Steps first before the serpentine.

In the Underworld, Lord Garmadon became furious that Pythor went to Ponyville without being informed. He even waited Orochimaru to inform of the locations of the Serpentine Staff, but he was watching a projection screen on the wall of flames. It shows Pythor was about to eat Rose Lotus, but was thwarted by Pinkie Pie and the Cake twins which it got him chuckled.

"This is quite an entertaining." Lord Garmadon said with a smirk, amused.

"Lord Garmadon."

Lord Garmadon turned his attention towards an Oni, who approached him.

"What is it?" Lord Garmadon asks.

"We were informed Orochimaru and the Serpentines managed to find the location of the Serpentine Staff. It's located at the Mountain of a Million Steps."

"Excellent, with 4 Fangblades and 1 Serpentine Staff in my grasp, I will summon the Great Devourer and have my revenge!" Lord Garmadon said triumphantly. "Now, gather your group and go to the Mountain of a Million Steps, let Orochimaru and the Serpentine pass, but do not let the Elemental Masters coming through."

Oni replied with a bow and leave to gather his army. Then, the portal is opened as Pythor entered inside with his body tied into a knot, felt humiliated that Pinkie Pie and the Cake twins have beaten him.

"Lord Garmadon, please, give me chance to..."

"You've done enough, Pythor." Lord Garmadon interrupts, walking towards Pythor. "Not only that you blind-sided me without informing me of where you were, you have failed me for killing one of the bearers of Harmony. You've had yourself to blame for your humiliation and defeat."

Pythor can only respond by hissing with his head down in shame.

"I will have the cell ready for you. You will stay there for one week, and maybe you'll reflect your actions." Lord Garmadon suggested. "And one other thing, Pythor."

Pythor then looked up, seeing Lord Garmadon glows in red eye with anger.

"The next time if you're about to leave, inform me before you come back in humiliation!?" Lord Garmadon warned him. "And if not, you will be sent down below and have you frozen for all eternity in Cocytus! Do you understand?!"

Pythor whimpers in fear, shakes his head frantically. Lord Garmadon then turns to one of the skeletons.

"Have the cell ready for Pythor, and make sure to keep an eye of him." Lord Garmadon informed them.

The skeletons saluted him as they escorted Pythor to the cell, leaving Lord Garmadon alone.

"Soon, brother, I will have my revenge and Equestria will be mine to rule." Lord Garmadon said with a sinister smirk.

Meanwhile, the Elemental Masters were treading towards the Mountain of a Million Steps which it's a long journey to get there before the serpentines. Jay however, still didn't like going there since Orochimaru and the serpentines are ahead of them.

"Geez, why couldn't we just stop and ask somepony for some directions?!" Jay complains.

"Because we have a map since me, Mario, Morro, Lloyd, and Zane worked hard on re-making it while making copies for each of us in case we either discover the other locations or getting lost." Nya told him in annoyance. "Like Master Wu said, it takes few days to get to the Mountain of a Million Steps."

"And if you got any better ideas, then I suggest you quit whining and start helping us out." Cole adds in annoyance.

Jay can only respond with a groan, crossed his fore-hooves while flying and journeying along with them. He thought of an idea as he smirked deviously.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks.

"No." Mario answered.

Then, they're now making camp for the night which they are currently at the mountains.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks again.

"Not yet." Skylor replied.

Then, they are walking towards the mountains while Morro, Lloyd, and Jay are flying.

"Hey, are we there yet?" Jay asks the third time.

"No." Lloyd said, irritated.

Then at the snowy mountains.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks again.

"No!" Morro said.

Now down to the ground.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks again.

"Yes." Mario answered quickly.

"Really?" Jay inquires.

"NOOOO!" Mario shouts.

Then, at the forest which the Elemental Masters are getting very annoyed of Jay asking again and again.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks.

"No!" Nya answered.

And again.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks.

"No we are not!" Cole answered.

"Now, they're at the mountains again.

"Are we there yet?" Jay asks.

"NOOOOOOOO!?" The Elemental Masters yelled as Jay began to speak.

"Are we there yet/Are we there yet?" Jay asks while Karlof repeats.

"Hey, that's not funny/Hey, that's not funny." Jay said in annoyance while Kai repeats. "That's really mature/That's really mature."

"This is why nopony likes a copycat/Your loss!" Jay said while Morro told him. "I'll just stop talking!"

"Finally!" Mario exclaims.

"But this taking forever, you guys, there's no town or anywhere." Jay complains.

"The Mountain of a Million Steps, Jay. That's where we're going." Floyd said in annoyance. "Mountain...Of...A...Million...Steps..."

"Alright, alright, I get it." Jay told him. "But I'm just so darn bored."

"Well, find a way to entertain yourself!" Karlof shouts.

As soon as the Elemental Masters continued to head for the Mountain of a Million Steps, Jay just groans since he's still bored and not finding something to entertain. It got him an idea as Jay making a popping noise, much to their annoyance. Then, Jay makes a popping sound again, which Mario, Cole, Kai, Karlof, and Floyd are starting to get very annoyed as he makes a popping sound a third time.

"Oh! For five minutes...could you not be yourself...FOR FIVE MINUTES?!" Mario, Kai, and Cole shouts, making Jay flinch.

Jay then flew close to them, which Zane, Skylor, Morro, and Nya are starting to get worried as he makes a popping sound.

"DAAAAAHHHHHH!?" Mario, Karlof, Cole, and Kai yelled. "Are we there yet?!"

"Yes." Nya answered. "And you guys aren't going to like of what we're about to see."

Though, Nya is right when they approach the Mountain of a Million Steps, which it happens to be very tall and it causes Jay to gulp nervously. But it got them noticed that the group of Serpentines, including Orochimaru and Kabuto somehow found away there as they slither their way up to the top.

"Guess we're not the only ones who wanted the Serpentine Staff." Cole states with a scowl.

"And it'll be much harder for us when they got ahead of us." Mario adds. "Let's hurry get there before they do."

And with that, Mario began carrying Nya on his back while Cole carries Skylor on his back and Karlof carries Zane on his back, began climbing as Kai and Wild Heart follows them. Morro, Floyd, and Jay began flying up to the mountain since Orochimaru and the serpentines are ahead of them, which time isn't on their side. But little did they know, the group of Oni arrived from the portal, guarding the entrance of the Mountain of a Million Steps while waiting for Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the serpentines arrive.

While the serpentine are a few steps ahead, the Elemental Master kept on climbing and flying up at the Mountain of a Million Steps. Mario, Karlof, and Cole are having no problems on climbing since they use to carry something heavy like boulders or more than one pony, Kai and Wild Heart was able to catch up to them, Morro and Floyd were flying ahead, but Jay was a little behind.

"Guys! Can't we just take a break, my wings are tired?!" Jay whines with a pant.

"If you hadn't been lazy, you would've train with us more often." Kai told him with grunts.

"And you'd master your element while look for somepony to pass the torch, too." Nya adds, causing them to chuckle.

Jay couldn't help but groan, knows that they're right since he's been lazy because he spends less training, which they did try to warn him about Master Wu being strict. He learned the hard way number of times, and it got to the point that Master Wu trained him extra hard in order for him to become the Master of Lightning while try to get him to take it seriously. And apparently, going with them for a long journey is one of them.

"Also, if you hadn't been acting lazy and get yourself into trouble, you would've earn the title as 'Master of Lightning'." Nya continued.

"You don't have to rub it in, I get it from Master Wu." Jay groans.

"She's telling you this, because you don't get it." Mario points out. "You think you get it, which is not the same as actually getting it. Get it?"

Jay could only groan again, which apparently, he doesn't get it after getting a number of warnings from them and Master Wu.

However, the group of Serpentine noticed the Elemental Masters are catching up as Orochimaru ordered the number of Venomari to keeping them at bay by shooting venom. The Elemental Masters looks up and noticed the rain of venom descended down towards them. They began to dodge by jumping while grabbing hold of the mountain wall, causing Morro, Floyd, and Jay to fly towards the group of Venomari. Morro uses his wind element to blow the Venomari against the wall, Floyd fired his energy spheres at them, and Jay fires his lightning element, shocking the number of serpentine. It got the others enough time to climb up, but not enough since Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the group of Serpentine are still ahead of them. They began to pick up the pace by jumping from rock to rock, trying to catch up to them while Morro, Floyd, and Jay began to fly towards the serpentine, using their elements to knock out the number of the serpentine, much to Orochimaru and Kabuto's annoyance. Orochimaru began to crouch down as he opened his mouth, using his ability to summon a number of snake. It got the Elemental Masters notice that the countless number of snakes crawled out of Orochimaru's mouth as the wall of snakes began to form.

"Great, now what?" Kai asks with a glare. "No way we can get through thanks to Orochimaru!"

"Orochimaru and Kabuto are very crafty and deceptive in their own ways." Zane pointed out. "And by the looks of it, they're preventing us for going any further."

"Well, that's not gonna stop us." Kai told him.

Kai then use his fire element to create wave of flames, burning the number of snakes while Floyd began using his energy to fire his green flames. Then, the Elemental Master use their Airjitzu to fly their way towards the top, which the group of Serpentine were shocked, but Orochimaru and Kabuto scowled because they knew that they'll be getting ahead before them.

Just as the Elemental Masters were at the top of a Mountain of a Million Steps, they saw a group of Oni guarding the entrance as they hide next to the rocks.

"Seems Lord Garmadon is making sure we don't get inside of the entrance." Skylor said with a hum, looking at the Oni.

"And they're waiting for Orochimaru and the serpentines to arrive." Nya adds.

Cole and Mario were gather, formulating a plan to get rid of the group of Oni. Though, it's risky, but they need to get inside of entrance and they don't have time to think.

"Guys." Cole called them, earned their attention. "We might have an idea, but I don't think you're going to like it."

They decided to hear Cole and Mario out as they began given them an explanation of the plan. Once Cole and Mario finished their explanation, Jay was about to protest when Floyd cuts in.

"That plan of yours is maybe risky, but if you guys think it's a good plan, then go for it." Floyd said seriously. "Just be careful."

"Karlof, we're gonna need you to take care of these guys while Mario and I start using the element to make a mountain rumble." Cole told him. "And the rest you, get ready, because it's about to get ugly."

The rest of the Elemental Masters nodded as they hide next to the rock while Karlof used his element to harden himself and stand on his hind legs with his metallic hands. Karlof then charges after the group of Oni as he delivers a straight jab to the first Oni, followed by a backfist to the second Oni, knocking them out. While Karlof distracts the group of Oni, Cole and Mario quietly move away as they start using the earth element. The Mountain of a Million Steps began to tremor, causing the Elemental Masters to lose their balance as they use the Airjitzu to take flight while Karlof starts tossing the number of Oni over the mountain and knocking them out.

Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the group of Serpentines were only halfway to the entrance when the mountain rumbles, causing them to stop as they looked up at the sky. They saw the rocks fallen down towards them, causing the group of Serpentines to dodge. Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Serpentines are trying to dodge while smashing those boulders, but began to overwhelm them which some of them were fallen down and most of them were being crushed.

Eventually, the landslide began to settle down and Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the group of Serpentines slithered out of the rock while coughing the dust.

"Those cursed Elemental Masters almost had us killed!?" Kabuto snarled angrily.

"Either that or, they did it on purpose just to slow us down." Orochimaru guessed seriously, but noticed the group of Oni falls down and then vanished. "Hm...perhaps we should worry about it later and thought of a way to get to the Serpentine Staff. We'll just have to play it smart."

Kabuto then smirks as Orochimaru began to formulate a plan.

After Mario and Cole were able to make a landslide to create a distraction, slowing Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the group of Serpentines down while Karlof knocked the number of Oni and throwing them out of the mountain, they went inside of the entrance that led to the Constrictai Tomb. Though, the tomb is deserted because Orochimaru and Kabuto unseal the tomb and having the group of Constrictai free, living at the Hollow Shades. Kai lights up the torches as they began investigating the tomb while looking for the Serpentine Staff.

"Huh, didn't Mama Snake ever told them not to draw them on a wall?" Cole rhetorically questions.

"These images describe a legend about one tribe uniting them all." Zane points out, looking at the images.

"Well, those snakes tribes have been at war for centuries. That is until the Princesses, Master Wu, and Lord Garmadon sealed them in different locations along with the Fangblades and the Serpentines Staffs." Mario states. "But for reason, Orochimaru and Kabuto were able to convince them on having the tribes as one and do Lord Garmadons dirty work."

"What else does it say?" Nya questions.

"It says here: Once they unite, they can find the four Fangblades and the four Serpentine Staff from the different tribes that will unleash a Great Devourer." Zane explains. "An evil that will consume all of the land, turning day into night."

The Elemental Masters felt grimace, now realizing why Lord Garmadon wanted the Fangblades and the Serpentine Staff in order to conquer Equestria in eternal darkness with Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Serpentines along with the group of Oni. Then, Cole heard the sound of the ground rumble as he turns and noticed the series of cracks coming at their direction.

"This gives me deep concern." Zane states. "If Lord Garmadon, Orochimaru, and Kabuto are working together for finding three more Serpentine Staffs before we could get to them..."

"Relax, Zane, we can take them down." Jay states with a smirk. "They're just a bunch of dumb snakes, how bad can it be?"

"Shh! Did you feel that?" Cole asks, shushing him while looking at the ground with a serious glare.

"What?" Skylor asks.

"There's something in the ground." Cole informed them. "Don't move."

Suddenly, a Constrictai merged out of the ground from behind, causing the Elemental Masters, except Jay, to dodge by jump back a few while the Serpentine binds the Master of Lightning.

"I've been waiting for you, Orochimaru informed me you'd be coming here." A Constrictai named Skalidor said with a smirk.

"Did you stay behind just to tells us that?!" Jay snarled with a scowl. "Pathetic!"

"Look who's calling who pathetic, Master of Lightning." Skalidor retorted.

"Hey, he may not look much, but he's our Master of Lightning!" Cole remarked, twirling his scythe as he uses his earth element while slamming against the ground, causing the mountain to tremor and Skalidor to unbind Jay.

Skalidor then hid in the underground.

"Guys, head for the Staff!" Cole warned them.

They then began to run to look for the Serpentine Staff, leaving Mario behind, as Skalidor grabs hold of Cole and threw him out of the ground, causing him to grunt. Cole and Mario then noticed Skalidor is getting close, pulls the flute out as the Master of Earth began playing it. It got Skalidor to merge out of ground with a yell in pain as Mario use his nature element to grab hold of the Constrictai, then knocks him out with the hammer.

"You okay?" Mario asks.

"Yeah, thanks Mario." Cole thanked him with a pant. "But he was expecting us. I think Orochimaru and Kabuto are trying to prevent us for getting the staff. C'mon, we've gotta find it before the can of worms beat us to the punch."

Mario nods as he and Cole then head for the Serpentine Staff while try to catch up with the others. Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Serpentine then entered inside of the tomb, watching them head for the Serpentine Staff and noticed the unconscious Skalidor.

"Hmm, we've underestimated those Elemental Masters...all except one." Orochimaru states with a smirk. "Alright, remember the plan."

And with that, the Serpentines split up to look for the Elemental Masters while Orochimaru and Kabuto went ahead to find the Serpentine Staff.

Mario and Cole were walking through the tomb to find their friends and the Serpentine Staff, which the Master of Earth decided to break the silent.

"Hey, Mario, do you think I have a chance with, uh, you know?" Cole said nervously.

"Who are you talking about, Cole?" Mario asks, but realizes. "Wait, you're talking about Applejack?"

"Yeah, her." Cole replied. "Do you think I have a chance?"

"Depends if you can tell me what do you think of her." Mario told him.

"Well, Applejack is strong and stubborn, I'll give her that. But she's an independent mare, hardworking, and caring to her family, including you." Cole clarifies, making Mario chuckled. "What?"

"Well, you're not wrong about my sister. She's a hard-head and caring. Flaws and all, I still love her as a sibling." Mario said with a smile. "And Cole, I'll go talk with Applejack when this is over. But who knows, she might be a perfect match for you."

Cole nods with a smile on his face when they heard a slither sound, causing them to ready their fighting stance as the number of Serpentine surrounding them.

"It looks like Orochimaru and Kabuto took their time to get here." Mario states.

"Yeah, and they're going after the others." Cole agrees.

But as the Serpentines lunged after Mario and Cole, they vanished into sand and then using the earth element to burst rocks out of the ground, knocking them out. Mario and Cole then form an earth wall to block them.

"It won't hold for long, but we gotta keep moving." Mario suggested as he and Cole ran.

When Mario and Cole were able to catch up with the others, they saw the Serpentine Staff which it got them noticed that something isn't right. Morro used his wind element to sense something, besides Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Serpentines are heading their direction, but sensing something mechanic.

"I am sensing...traps." Morro muttered. "We must proceed with caution."

Morro then leaps from wall to wall, and then lands at the entrance toward the steps. Nya, Skylor, Zane, Mario, Floyd, Karlof, and Cole did the same as they land next to the Master of Wind.

"There ain't no traps down there." Kai states.

Kai then ran which he steps on a button, activating the traps as a pendulum swings at him. Kai quickly rolls down while evading the pendulums, but the buzzsaws were about to cut him which he was able to dodge them and leaps in midair. He lands on the ground while running towards them, but he activated a trap which is the pit fall filled with spikes. It got the Elemental Masters widen their eyes with dread as Kai leaps over the pit fall, landed on the ground.

"Uh...oops..." Kai said with a nervous chuckle.

"Kai, your rashness will be the end of you yet." Floyd told him with a disappointed glare while the others glared at him.

"Hey, I made it, didn't I?" Kai asks with a shrug.

"Oh yeah? What about Jay?" Nya asks.

"Yes, what about Jay?" The voice of Kabuto asks which it got their attention when they saw him, binding Jay. "Seems we're in a bind, wouldn't you say?"

"Kabuto, you'd stoop low by holding Jay as a hostage?!" Mario growled angrily.

"Oh, we always have our ways to win and getting the Serpentine Staff." Orochimaru states with a sinister smirk. "Now, I believe this calls for a negotiation."

Nya was about to charge after them, but is restrained by Kai.

"And why would you think we trust you?" Mario questions. "We all know that you're going to kill him, rather than negotiating with us."

"That may be the case, but I can be reasonable at times." Orochimaru told him. "But you see, with Jay holding hostage, you didn't have a choice for the matter."

"What do you want, Orochimaru?" Morro demands with a glare.

"What we want is the Serpentine Staff and for an exchange, you can have your friend back." Orochimaru told him. "But any actions from either of you, well...you know what will happen to your friend. Do we have ourselves a deal?"

Then, the Elemental Masters glance at each other and then turns to Jay which they're in a very bad situation. Though, neither of them trust either Orochimaru or Kabuto because of them killing innocent lives, including Bolobo, and they're very deceptive when it comes to their methods, especially negotiating. But apparently, with Jay held hostage and close to the Serpentine Staff, they don't have any other options. And if any one of them tries to save Jay, Kabuto will kill him.

"Alright, but if you and your group try something, then the deal is off." Morro warned him. "Do we have an agreement?"

"Oh? You don't trust me?" Orochimaru asks.

"No!" The Elemental Masters, except Jay, answered bluntly.

"Hmm, that's a pity...Oh very well, you have my word, no harm will come to your friend." Orochimaru agreed, then turns to the Serpentine as he gave them a nod.

Then, then the number of Serpentine began to slither through the traps while the Elemental Masters just stay still and watch heading towards the Serpentine Staff. Jay, however, thought of an idea which it'll be risky as he start concentrating his element. It got Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Serpentine's attention as Jay began to use his lightning element by turning himself into lightning, shocking Kabuto along with the number of Serpentine, but Orochimaru turns himself into snakes while dodging lightning. Jay then takes flight, flying towards the Serpentine while firing lightning at them, shocking them and knocking them out as he then grabs the Serpentine Staff.

"Ha! Did you really think that I let you take it just like that? Well, think again!" Jay said with a smirk.

"Well, if I can't have the Serpentine Staff, then neither of you will made it out of the mountain alive." Orochimaru said angrily as he opens his mouth, causing the snakes the slither out of his mouth while forming a wall. "Lord Garmadon may not be pleased with our failure, but it's a minor setback. We will find the rest of the Serpentine Staff, and once we find them all, we'll get the find the final Staff you're holding and we will unleash the Great Devourer."

And with that, Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the group of Serpentine teleported out of the tomb, leaving the Elemental Masters stranded against the wall of snakes when they slither closer toward them. Kai and Zane were about to use their elements when Cole pulls out the flute, plays it as the snakes slithers back when they heard the sound of a flute. Then, Zane uses his ice element to form an ice wall while Floyd uses his energy element to form an ice wall, blocking the snakes from each side and preventing them for getting to them or biting them. Once Cole finished playing and both Zane and Floyd made the ice walls, the Elemental Masters began to rush out of the Constrictai Tomb.

After they got out of Mountain of a Million Steps, they're now making their way back at the Temple Dojo since they were able to get the Serpentine Staff.

"Well, Jay, we seem to underestimate you." Floyd said. "And we owe you..."

"No, you guys are right, maybe I should've taken it seriously and train more often." Jay interrupts with a sigh. "Even I have to take the title as 'Master of Lightning' seriously."

"But you did stop them for getting the Serpentine Staff without getting yourself killed." Morro told him. "While it's true you were spending less days of training and goofing off, but you did something what is right when we're in a tight situation."

"And you use your element to turn yourself into lightning while knocking them out, it's impressive." Skylor adds. "And maybe if you spend more time training with us and get stronger and helping us out, you'd be the Master of Lightning, even if you were a big goofball."
