Episode 5
(Where have I seen these cutscenes before?)
"This case is the conclusion of every plot thread that has been building up since the first case. In other words, this is done to symbolize how the game is about to come full circle." One sin added.
[(Phoenix's "Our past is like the moon" line.) So, it only shows up at night-and the odd day-and can be easily covered by clouds? That doesn't seem too bad.]
"Taking obvious symbolisms at face value." One sin added.
(I'm really digging this music, but doesn't anyone else think it's a little too upbeat? We just got cutscenes of bloody Athena and Blackquill, Apollo standing in a symbolically broken courtroom and a mysterious full moon in the middle of the day. They couldn't have gone with anything darker?)
"This is the music that fits here. Seriously. Yes, the case has gotten dark, but it's still l finale. And the number one rule of finale cases in this series is: always make it clear from the start we mean business! This music gets you excited and eager to find out where things are headed. And why would the awesome scene of the broken courtroom and Apollo in bandages need darker music and not the awesome music it already has?" One sin added.
(Athena and Apollo are not yet ghosts, so why is Phoenix hallucinating their presence in the office? Last time he felt that way was when Mia was killed. This better not be foreshadowing, goddammit it!)
"Phoenix has been used to their presence for the last year. He is used to seeing them work together and has grown to love both of them. And right now, one is in jail and the other is on a mission of self-discovery, with no guarantee either will come back. So…he is justified feeling like this." One sin added.
(But Athena couldn't have done it. It doesn't make any sense.) I know, Trucy, but we needed a cool twist to enter the finale and we weren't capable of creating a plausible scenario.)
"Sinning that ending. That's worth…this many sins." Thirty sins added.
"And don't think I forgot about you talking to the screen." One sin added
(Do they really allow Starbuck to just run around in that spacesuit? He's been wearing it for the past six days and, as far as we know, detention cells don't have showers. Why hasn't he changed clothes?)
"Maybe he just likes wearing it. Or maybe it's a completely new suit he changed into. Or maybe this is a video game where not everything has to be realistic and you are overthinking this for no reason." One sin added.
(So there was never going to be a launch that day?) I know, I can't believe the government wasted that much money when they're already so short. They could have at least replaced the rocket with a fake. IKs it any wonder Cosmos get fired later?)
"Two sins: One, Cosmos does not get fired. He is merely demoted to assistant director. You know that's not the same, right?" one sin added.
"And two, Cosmos really did absolutely nothing wrong! He tried to call off the launch to save both government equipment and his astronauts' lives. But the "clever" government bureaucrats refused to give in to terrorists. The man had to do something to protect the lives of two innocent men and this was all he could do without government support. He even tried to switch the rocket with the fake museum model. How could he have predicted the phantom had bugged his phone and knew about the switch?" One sin added.
(More space jokes.)
"More sinning of the space jokes." One sin added.
(Police found nothing on the trash chute.) Why does that mean anything? The gun was supposedly dropped there six days ago. It's really unlikely nobody's taken out the trash since then. Why would they even waste the time?]
"Why are you assuming the police searched for the gun now. Starbuck just said that as he was being released from jail, he overheard the officers saying they didn't find a gun in the trash. There is no reference to when that search occurred. Maybe it occurred on the first day and they were just briefing in someone who didn't know." One sin added.
(Interrogating a due who was drugged and semi-conscious during the murder was considered a worthwhile way to waste game time.)
"Well, he does give us some useful information like the fact the gun wasn't found. And he also lets us into the launch pad corridor, which became the basis for the "Killer jumped onto the emergency ladder" theory." One sin added.
(So, Starbuck's only job today is to stand here and let people in and out? He couldn't have changed clothes, taken a shower, celebrated his acquittal or do anything a normal person does in this situation?)
"Starbuck likes being in the space center. He feels like he's home there. And he wants to immediately begin preparing for his return to space. That's his celebration." One sin added.
[(Space museum for tourists to generate money.) Well, they did just piss away hundreds of million on dollars at a failed rocket launch. I can see why the space center might be having financial trouble.]
"So are you sinning something you agree with? Because the fact the government throws money away all the time on failed ventures is a well-known fact. The government had the chance to keep this from happening by cancelling the launch, but they thought they were really smart. That's something most real-life governments would do. Don't blame the game for being realistic. Blame yourself. And that goes to anyone who reads this: If you don't like the government's actions, you shouldn't have voted for them." One sin added.
[(Fingerprint scanner discussion.) I get the culprit wouldn't need to scan their prints, but they still need to press a button, right? You are telling me they didn't leave any fingerprints on this thing? Even if the culprit was wearing gloves…]
"Pierce answers her own question cliché. It's obvious the guy who planned this murder so intricately and predicted every single detail would be wearing gloves. That would be a complete waste of time. And don't try to say they have time to waste. They have a lot to do here." One sin added.
(Why did we need to go back out to the entrance? I thought we were headed for the space museum?)
"And what made you think that? I don't think Phoenix or Trucy ever said anything like that. They are just going all around the place, searching for people to talk with. And Cosmos was there the last time they saw him, so it's as good a place as any." One sin added.
(Phoenix didn't know his daughter took up knife throwing? What kind of father is he?)
"The kind who is too busy having to investigate murders, find evidence and catch killers. And Trucy is the kind of daughter who is awesome at hiding her hobbies and talents from everyone." One sin added.
(So…Clay broke into his mentor's locker, drugged and actively participated in a fake rocket launch? If he hadn't died, I'm sure he'd be in a lot of trouble right about now. The government does not like it when you help piss way their money on a fake rocket launch. Forget fired. I'm surprised Cosmos isn't prosecuted for this.)
"The government would have had a lot of gall if they attempted to prosecute the man. It was their irresponsibility and arrogance that led to all this. They knew the phantom had already sabotaged a rocket in the past, they were told he has made threating calls again and still thought he didn't pose a threat and refused to cancel the launch. Cosmos saved Starbuck's life at least and almost saved Clay's too. He is the hero of the game!" one sin added.
"Also, still saying he was fired. He was demoted." One sin added.
(Hey, what is Trucy doing this whole psyche-lock segment? Can she see them? Why does no one else, say Maya or Pearl in the second or third game, ever help Phoenix with this shit? Is there a reason he's on his own here? What would happen if someone were to walk up to them and talk to them at this time? Why does magic have no rules in this universe?)
"Because it's magic. It doesn't need to be explained in full detail, it's more fun if it's left vague. And it's clear Maya, Pearl and Trucy know about the magatama and know to step aside, because this is Phoenix's moment. Only the person that holds the magatama can actually break them." One sin added.
(Incident that happened x years ago is related to today cliché.)
"Yes…and this incident is Athena's whole story in this game. It's the reason she's such a great character and so deep and so well-written. Would you have preferred it if Athena was a random new lawyer with no stakes in the outcome of the case?" one sin added.
(Cosmos explains the story behind the HAT-1 miracle.) Telling this story requires the screen to lose colors.]
"Yes, to maximize dramaticism. This is a big deal. Pierce still has no idea what visual storytelling is." One sin added.
[(You couldn't even smuggled a withered old leaf through the checkpoints.) Is this foreordaining or general non-creativity?]
"I would say that it's actually probably irony, but…you would sin that too, so why bother?" one sin added.
[(Trucy calls Blackquill a ninja.) No, Trucy. He's a samurai. The two are literally opposites. Are we sure this game was made by the Japanese?]
"Yes. But the localization was made by Americans, who probably don't even know the difference. In other words, you are blaming the wrong group." One sin added.
[(The hope capsule was destroyed? All the more reason for it to not have been carried by Clay Terran during a fake rocket launch, instead of, you know, being taken to a secure location outside the space center. Can we add "Losing valuable space resources" to reasons why Cosmos was fired and should have bene court martialed?]
"And what exactly do you have in mind as a secure location? Where exactly would the capsule be safe from the person able to carry three bombs in a highly-guarded space center? The only safe place was on Clay's person to make sure it survives. In other words, they had no choice." One sin added.
"Also, still saying Cosmos was fired. If you are going to do this all day, you could have at least looked it up to make sure you are not spouting nonsense." One sin added.
"And apart from that, you say Cosmos should have been court martialed. I don't think you know what that means. Cosmos is the director of a space center, not a member of the military." One sin added.
(Also, why do they still suspect Athena of this crime? She's too young to be their spy and had absolutely no chance to bug Cosmos' phone. How does the case even continue after this point?)
"Tell me: besides Cosmos, Phoenix and Trucy, who else right now even suspects a spy is involved in the murder? No one. So that's how. Also, you apparently forgot about her fingerprints on the lighter used by the killer. That's damming evidence!" one sin added.
(As revenge for Phoenix's sabotage of his own legal experiment for selfish purposes, Edgeworth decides not to tell Phoenix about Blackquill's innocence the whole time he was planning to retry UR-1. Despite all the development Edgeworth's character has gone through, old vindictiveness proves to die hard.)
"Are prosecutors allowed to talk about classified information in murder cases to third parties with no official connection to the case? I don't think prosecutors are allowed to talk about classified information in murder cases to third parties with no official connection to the case." One sin added.
(How did juniper get into the space museum?)
"Since it's open for tourists on a daily basis, I don't think it would have been that hard." One sin added.
(Oh, I get it: she told Starbuck she needed to lay some much needed exposition on the players. He understood her plight and must have let her in with no trouble.)
"I already explained this." One sin added.
"Also, three sins for blatantly padding your sin count. There was no need to separate those two lines into two different sins even though they are basically the same thing." three sins added.
(Wait…Juniper clams Athena lived in the space center here, but in the trail, Blackquill says he took Athena home to the Cykes residence. So…which is it? Is there a Cykes residence in the space center?)
"Yes. Next question." One sin added.
(Also, I just realized the reminiscence theme for UR-1 is Athena's theme slowed down. Why does the game do this and why is it effective?)
"Because it is effective. This music hits you in the right emotional basis. You fail to realize the music in these games always has a meaning." One sin added.
(How does Trucy know UR-1 took place in the robotics lab? Juniper never mentioned it.)
"Another boldface lie! Juniper said it specifically: The murder of Athena's mom occurred in the robotics' lab. You are greatly underestimating the readers' intelligence. Okay, they fell for it, but I am not!" one sin added.
(And now that her mandatory exposition session is over, Juniper will not be seen for the rest of the investigation. Or the case.)
"Well, she played her part. Juniper has been a crucial character in four of this game's cases. I think that's enough screen time for this game. And there is nothing new for her to reveal." One sin added.
[(Fulbright lets Phoenix question Tonate.) Fulbright is way too cooperative to be a detective talking to a defense attorney. Why is no one suspicious of this dude?]
"Because he has tricked everyone into thinking he is always this cooperative? Because the real Fulbright was also this cooperative and the phantom is keeping up appearances? Or because helping like this is the best way to earn people's trust?" One sin added.
[(Phantom follows up on Tonate's claims about another bomber.) Why would the phantom do this? Wouldn't he want to frame Tonate as the bomber?]
"Because Phoenix believes Tonate is telling the truth, mostly due to this magic lie detector. If the phantom tried to categorically deny the possibility, it would seem more suspicious, as if he had a reason to want to keep everyone away from that thought route. He is playing along to keep Phoenix from suspecting him, knowing no evidence can link him to the bombing. This is misdirection 101." One sin added.
(Aura is flirting with Apollo.) First, he is fourteen years younger than you. Second of all, you all but stated to have lingering feelings for a dead woman and everyone think you are a lesbian. And third, you don't flirt with me too. What the fuck, Aura?]
"One, Pierce thinks fourteen years is a significant age gap in today's society. Love knows no age, as long as they are both adults." One sin added.
"Two, Pierce thinks bisexual people don't exist. Wow…" five sins added.
"And three, this line!" five sins added.
[(Or should I said, former subordinate?) When did Apollo quit?]
"He didn't. Aura got that impression from the way he is acting. He has taken a leave of absence and Aura is seen as being quick to jump to conclusions. You seem unable to understand the characters in this games don't have the same information as the players at any given time." One sin added.
[(Maybe Apollo is possessed by Clay's ghost.) This didn't happen.]
"It does metaphorically. Apollo acts like a bit of a jerk to Athena during the trial because he is haunted by his friend's death. He is blinded by his pain and is accusing her in a desperate quest for salvation. I think that's what the game was going for, not the goddamn ghostbusters crossover nobody needs!" one sin added.
(Phoenix: and I' a spirit medium.) That WMG was true?!]
"Pierce doesn't get sarcasm. Seeing how many times she makes sassy remarks about these games I expected more from her." One sin added.
[(How perfectly foolish.) Wait, is she Yew or von karma? Now I'm not sure.]
"So you think Yew is awesome, and she is, but you don't think the same for Franziska?" one sin added.
(-That settles is then. -What? -None of your business.) Foreshadowing.]
"Pierce hates foreshadowing for no reason." One sin added.
(Aura starts choking Clonco.) How?!]
"Pierce fails at game logic again. You do know games don't actually have to explain anything, right?" one sin added.
(Clonco starts kicking them out.) How is Aura not our villain? She even has minion, goddammit it!]
"Aura is a villain. Yes, I know she had good intentions, but that doesn't change the fact she commited a bunch of crimes like kidnapping, false imprisonment and extortion. You think every case can only have one villain?" one sin added.
(He's usually not all cool and dark and mysterious and all that.) Trucy just said those things about her older brother. I don't care if she doesn't know, that's still creepy.]
"How exactly? She called him cool, dark and mysterious. How the hell is any of that creepy in the context of telling them about your brother? I see no sexual innuendo here." One sin added.
[(Aura has another plan up her sleeve.) Is foreshadowing the only way the Blackquill know how to communicate?]
"Aura is not foreshadowing here. She is openly stating her intention to take matters into her own hands. She keeps it vague, because if she lays out the whole deal, she risks the police getting word of it and stopping hee before she does it." One sin added.
[(Fulbright say the UR-1 reporter was male.) Lota hart has no role in this game, despite the ability to make an easy cameo?]
"How exactly? The male reporter does not appear either. And if Lotta did appear, it would be to just reveal some information and then disappear from the game. Wouldn't that seem too contrived?" one sin added.
[(His execution date is tomorrow.) Whoa. Why did that bomb take over an hour to drop?]
"To make is more impactful? What the hell kinda question is that? Who plays a mystery game and wants all the information to be revealed in the first hour? Do I need to say it again? Pierce would suck at mystery writing." one sin added.
(Fulbright's tone is neither his theme song nor that of the steel samurai.)
"Okay…and how is that a sin? You see, this is Pierce's biggest problem: when a case is too good, she sticks to irrelevant details to pad her sin count." One sin added.
(We interrupt your regularly scheduled murder to bring you…Battlestar Galactica.)
"See?! She is still padding that damn sin count! Pierce makes a pop culture reference that isn't a sin of the game cliché." One sin added.
(Also, you know your game is insane when the robot revolution is just the sideplot to your main story.)
"Yes, you get the point. This case is crazy. …would you mind explain why that is sinful? We love these cases for being crazy." One sin added.
(How come Apollo wasn't taken as a hostage? Or Juniper? Last we heard, both were in the space center.)
"But neither is seen again, so it's implied they did leave before the robot thing happened. You complain for this game holding your hand too much…but you need everything spoon-fed to you. So…hypocrite much?" one sin added.
(I get why Aura would deliver messages through Clonco, but…did it need to look like her?)
"Yes. This is what makes it fun. Again: this is a videogame, not everything needs to be explained perfectly." One sin added.
(Also, how are there only twelve hostages in an entire space center? Does that include Starbuck, Cosmos and Juniper? I know there was a murder recently…)
"Pierce answers her own question cliché. The murder investigation is still underway and the police need to look into it. Too many people going in and out of there would cause problems. So they allow only the necessary employees to be present. And if you are going to claim Juniper still got in, the police never saw her and Starbuck is shown as being kind and giving to everyone." One sin added.
(Also, does she fit the legal definition of terrorist? I think she fits the legal definition of terrorist. Good luck getting a decreased sentence in that trial.]
"Who said she will get a decreased sentence? Aura will be stuck in there for a long time. And she knows this, but is taking a large gamble for her brother's sake. That makes her shitty in almost every aspect, but it also makes her sister-material." One sin added.
(That's right. Miles Edgeworth is back, bitches! The great revival plays and all is right in the world of ace attorney.)
"I will stop here. Pierce then proceeds to details everything that is going to crap in this case, but…who said the music symbolizes everything going great? It symbolizes Miles Edgeworth's return, which is great even in the middle of all this chaos." One sin added.
"Also, sinning this return for whatever reason. Do you know how many sins you are getting? How many years did von Karma's perfect record last again? Exactly." fourty sins added.
[(Edgeworth gives Phoenix evidence.) Edgeworth is too helpful to be a chief prosecutor.]
"He is a proper chief prosecutor, giving the defense a fair chance to discover the truth. Both sides are fighting to reach the same truth on opposite sides but with the same evidence, which means they need to trust each other and work together. Edgeworth reached that conclusion at the end of the second game. Pierce is still going. I'd say she's about halfway there." One sin added.
(Why would Blackquill be suspected of spying? Where's the evidence? Lack of motive doesn't mean invent your own.)
"Are you sure about that? Since when has the police or the courts cared about the motive? All they need to prove is: a) a person has died within the jurisdiction of the court b) the defendant caused the death by some affirmative action on their part and c) the defendant intended for the person to die as a result of their action. Sure, if there is a motive, they will examine it, but if they meet the above criteria, the motive can go and die for all they care." One sin added.
[(What Aura wrote on the judge tron.) Aura is either terrible at poetry or recorder her meeting with Redd White on this robot. I can never be sure on this one.]
"I can. It's probably the former. And that's not a sin, because not everyone has to be perfect with poetry. It's the effort that counts." One sin added.
[(Also, why does the judge robot need to look like her? How vain is the woman? Did she get federal funding for this or is this just something she does whenever she has spare time and parts? And who the fuck let this woman work for the government?)
"The government. The standards for getting in there are much lower than you realize." One sin added.
(Scene of Aura gleefully tearing down the street wrecking buildings did not make it into the final version of the game.)
"And it didn't need to." One sin added.
[(Clonco's "We never know what miss Aura will do if we power down" line.) It isn't possible to rape robots, is it?]
"No. Clonco meant they are afraid she will take them apart. And now… I can't stop thinking about that thanks to you!" three sins added.
(After almost an hour and a half into the case, we finally get to talk to Athena. I think that's the longest she's gone with psychically being on screen.)
"Pierce points out things on the screen cliché." One sin added.
(Athena explains why she was at the space center.) You know, for someone who's innocent, this has to be one of the most ridiculous alibis yet. There is literally no way to prove any of this is true. Thanks, Athena. You couldn't have waited one more day to do your reminiscing? Or one less?]
"No. Because If she had, there wouldn't be a case to play. How many times must you be told the case happens because of these events before you realize it? The whole case happened because events happened in a specific way. If they hadn't…the case would go a separate way and you would still see it as convenient, since it would still have been caused by specific events." One sin added.
"And don't think I forgot about you yelling at the screen." One sin added
[(Athena talks about her mommy issues.) Wait, so…out of everybody, Blakcquill was the only adult who was actually there for her? That's just said. Is it any wonder she became attached to him as a child?]
"Exactly. That's why they are so close without their relationship being seen as romantic. Blakcquill was there for her, but not in the way you think. He is just a caring adult to an abused child." One sin added.
(Athena's eyes change from grey to blue over the course of seven years.)
"No, that's a matter of perspective. Her eye were blue her whole life. They seem a bit grey here because of the angle and the lighting, but if you look closely, you can see they are still blue." One sin added.
(How did Athena learn about the hostage situation? Phoenix hasn't told her yet. Does the detention center have news?)
"Yes. Haven't you seen…any movie with a scene in prison? There are TVs for the guards to here the news. And they would be loud enough for Athena to hear, especially if her cell was located near the TV." One sin added.
(Also, who questioned it. It couldn't have bene Blackquill. Her trial would have been the next day and he would have been dead. Our only other possibilities are Klavier Gavin and Gaspen Payne.)
"Or another person we don't know about. Who said only main characters exist in these games? Other people work here." One sin added.
[(Unlike now, when he's more twisted than a basket of snakes.) Why would you put snakes in a basket?]
"Pierce even takes proverbs at face value. Don't ever tell her: "One bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." She will run to the nearest forest to grab a bird with her hands." One sin added.
(It's very difficult to interrupt a trial once it's underway.) Hahahahaha. I'm sorry, what universe do you live in? Not this one.]
"There have been cases where people barged in a courtroom to deliver new evidence or request to summon a new witness. But to ask that an entire courtroom be emptied and a trial postponed for who-knows-how-long so that another trial can be held there…something that far-fetched has not be shown as a possibility, even in this universe." One sin added.
(screaming a word.) No.]
"Nitpicking." One sin added.
[(The black psyche-locks hit.) Everyone wants to be Kristoph Gavin today. I don't understand it at all.]
"Sinning this scene. As much as it worked for Kristoph, it is much greater for Athena and her character development as well as the outcome of the case." Three sins added.
(Pearl explain the black psyche-locks.) Who came up with this and how the heck does it make sense for Kristoph?]
"Because Kristoph was so paranoid about keeping his crimes hidden that he managed to convince even himself that he did nothing wrong. That shows he is a true psychopath and makes him as scary a villain as he is. Sure, it's not a perfect explanation, but if it works, no need to fix it." One sin added.
(How are there people in the gallery? Isn't that where most of the rubble fell? Also…how did they gather up an audience so quickly? Are there seriously people who just sit around at their district courthouse and watch random trials as if they're some kind of show?)
"Yes. That's a literal point in the series. The trials are being treated more like shows and less like legal procedures of life and death. This also worked like this in real life, which is why Japan's legal system was so crappy back then. In the ace attorney movie, people are even shown buying tickets to attend trials as if they are a theatre play. This universe is messed up, and so is Japan." One sin added.
(Edgeworth, what did we just say about sassing the crazy hostage taker? Yours wasn't funny, so that deserves a sin.)
"But he's clearly right. This whole trial is a joke. The only reason they are going with it is to protect the hostages' lives. And Edgeworth even makes a point about how this joke still will be crucial to ending the dark age of the law. So he does actually get on Aura's good side with this." One sin added.
[(The cutscene.) Threatening to permanently traumatize someone who went through the very same situation as myself requires the removal of my glasses.]
"Acting like Miles Edgeworth isn't much more epic without his glasses. This is how we like to see him." One sin added.
(Edgeworth…it's okay. You can put your glasses back on now. No one will judge you for it. But we will judge you for A) wearing glasses when you don't need them or B) misreading key evidence and making stupid arguments as a result.)
"Or maybe he only needs the glasses to see far and can read and see what's near him." One sin added.
(I love how this trial starts with testimony from the culprit. No, really. It's a nice change of pace and makes me really appreciate the work the writing team did to break down series stereotypes. Now if only they picked a better culprit.)
"Sinning the phantom plot twist. One of the greatest plot twists of all time! And don't say it wasn't built up towards. Jinxie in case two called him a ghost, you have been complaining in both this case and the previous one about how he has been uncharacteristically helpful and cooperative and Aura says he was the one that told her to lower the emergency ladder. If you remember that detail hen Phoenix presents his theory, you can immediately figure it out. This was properly built up and one of the greatest twists in the series." Thirty sins added.
"Also, Pierce sins something she likes cliché." One sin added.
(Dr. Cykes was so intent on her research, she forced her daughter to undergo experiments.) That's…actually legal, since Metis Cykes, was her legal guarding and can consent to her daughter's experiment on her behalf.)
"Okay…so what's the sin? That Dr. Cykes was clever in an evil way and took advantage of a loophole that exists in real life and would work in a realistic setting? The game is being realistic." One sin added.
(If Clonco's head comes off when it feels enough surprise then Aura would have been the one to program it. So…why is she surprised by it doing this?)
"Listen, Pierce. For your own good…stop taking ace attorney damage sprites and breakdowns at face value. You are just going to cause yourself a headache." One sin added.
(Wait…so, if both defense and prosecution are in agreement, the judge will allow anything to happen in court?)
"Yes. That's how the law works." One sin added.
[(A cross-examination is never useless.)You uselessly cross-examined an orca five months ago. How have you already forgotten about it?]
"Uselessly? Are you talking about the cross-examination that ended up proving how the orca was manipulated into performing trick and exposing the truth of the case? That one?" One sin added.
"Also, Pierce yells at the screen cliché." One sin added.
(Edgeworth uses the power of his imagination. I am now resisting the urge to make a SpongeBob joke.)
"Seeing as you still sin the game for it…you are doing a terrible job." One sin added.
(Why is no one questioning how a small girl could skillfully operate a heavy sword and stab it into a taller person's chest from her height with no problems?)
"She was eleven years old. Children at that age can use swords that are part of Halloween costumes with no problems, so they conceivably use real ones, too. And who said she needed to be an expert to accomplish that? She would have hit the target by stricking when her mom was distracted and pointing upwards." One sin added.
(Why does Japanese weeboo believe in a Greek afterlife?)
"Because religion is not exclusive to every country and place. And I don't think Japan is very unified in culture and religion." One sin added.
[(Blakcquill says he killed Metis to protect Athena.) Clearly, Blakcquill has never heard of child protection services. I know this is a lie, but why does no one notice how illogical this is?]
"Because it would perfectly in character for Blakcquill to do this instead of just call child protection services .The guy carries a sword everywhere he goes and was ready to cut an innocent man down last episode. It's clear this guy would choose the easy, slay-the-evil way rather than the longer, legal way." one sin added.
[(The infamous "Athena covered in blood and smiling" photo.) Well, that was horrifying.]
"Says the girl that in episode two asked for the game to return their M rating." One sin added.
[(Simon insists Metis loved Athena.) This…is actually a really sad and touching scene. Sin on the game for making my job hard to do.]
"So you acknowledge the game was made hard to be an asshole towards…and you still worked your way around that by sinning it for being too good? I don't know if I should sin you for stupidity or admire how diabolically good you are at this. Oh, who am I kidding?" one sin added.
(Did Phoenix really just save Athena's life with art? If those handles had been plain, she would have been fucked.)
"Then we are lucky this didn't happen because there wouldn't be a happy end, nor would there be a sequel that involves Athena." One sin added.
[(Athena's breakdown.) Wow. The writers really like screaming. I'm suddenly concerned about the working conditions in Japan.]
"I let it slide both times you did it before…but Athena is perfectly justified screaming here. She is having a nervous breakdown as she remembers the guy who killer her mother in front of her. Give the poor girl a fuckin' break!" one sin added.
(Her locks fly off.) was the easiest psyche-lock segment ever or the hardest? Eh, as long as she doesn't get Kristoph hair, I'm cool with it.]
"Pierce sins something she likes cliché." One sin added.
(Aura's confession of love for Metis.) Gotta, admit, the pinching hands and smiley face did nto help in the delivery of this message.)
"It's the thought that counts." One sin added.
[(Apollo stops the verdict.) Whoa! How is everybody able to time their entrance exactly right in this case? How long was Apollo just waiting outside that door, ready to interject right as Athena gets declared innocent?]
"Phoenix is shown loving this, as we see in the first case. And since Apollo has been working for him for almost a year, it makes sense he will start mimicking him. Plus, we love those characters for being dramatic!" one sin added.
[(Edgeworth praises Apollo's argument.) Edgeworth does not try to hire him then and there, removing any chance of AA6 featuring prosecutor Justice. Because that would have been awesome.]
"More awesome than Justice imploding the government and changing the legal system of an entire country in one day? I don't think so." One sin added.
[(Phoenix's new escape route. I could bullshit this, but I'll let the characters do it for me:
Edgeworth: You're
Apollo: Freakin'
Judge: INSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE!]
"Well, since he turned out being right, the joke's on all of them and you!" one sin added
(Apollo asks Athena to hit him, giving my mind some very bad ideas.)
"He felt terrible for ever suspecting her and wants her to punch him so he can feel he's punished for what he put her through. It's the fault of people like you who give sexual meaning to everything they see." One sin added.
(I still can't wrap my head around detective Fulbright being the phantom. 0Don't worry Athena. You aren't alone.]
"I already explained this. This plot twist is amamzing and properly built up towards. See above." One sin added.
"Also, Pierce yells at the screen cliché." One sin added.
(Edgeworth uncuffs Blakcquill.) Cool, but...are you telling me Edgeworth had the handcuffs key on him this entire time?)
"Yes. Because he knew it would turn out like this and he would need to give Blackquill his freedom. Yes, he did know Blackquill would show up and would be proven innocent. You are greatly underestimating the greatest prosecutor in the series." One sin added.
(Cutscene of Apollo removing bandages.) Cool, but…are you telling me he was walking around for three days bandaged for no reason?)
"Missing the obvious symbolism of how Apollo is freed from his doubts that held him back in this case." one sin added.
(Lighter is a gun.) What?! That's insane! Next thig you know, keys are gonna be knives…oh.]
"This is the kind of thing a spy would have. You apparently realize this is a spoof of the James Bond films, so how don't you get this?" one sin added.
[(Phantom accuses Athena of everything. Okay, I can see shooting Cosmos and killing Clay, but where did the bombing come from? Where is the evidence of that?]
"Welcome to coverup 101: blame everything on the most likely person to have done even one of them and figure out the details later." One sin added.
[(Fulbright and Apollo insult each other's character designs.) Either the scriptwriters felt the need to waste time or two members of the art team got a hold of the final script after a fight. The workers at Capcom are more interesting than the game at this point.]
"Pierce really believes that." One sin added.
[(Phantom is worried he might be shot.) Foreshadowing.]
"How is that foreshadowing? He knows it's going to happen if he's exposed and he outright says it. This is building up tension." one sin added.
[(How many of those toys does he have? And where can I get myself some?!) Stop stealing my lines, Phoenix! I thought only Kay did that.]
"Pierce yells at the screen cliché." One sin added.
(Blakcquill slashes down the phantom's ninja star.) That's right! There is only one person allowed to wiled sharp objects in this courtroom and that person is Simon Blakcquill. Take that, phantom!]
"Pierce sins something she likes cliché."
"Also, yells at the scree cliché. You know what, just throw in some unwarranted hate for foreshadowing or narration to complete the package." One sin added.
[(Fulbright's off-killer emotions.) Why do I get the feeling this started as an animation malfunction?]
"Because you are searching for an excuse to pad the sin count. Why else?" one sin added.
(Could this trial get any more insane) Well, we could shoot the…wait, we do that later. Never mind.]
"Pierce yells at the screen cliché. Also, there is no actual sin in this sentence. Nothing to see here people." One sin added.
(Wow…how did Athena keep track of that earring for all those years? I lose my earrings all the time.)
"So that's the takeaway: Athena is much more careful than you are." One sin added.
(It's suddenly nighttime in this shot, but when we return to court the sun is back at the judge's back. What the fuck?)
"That's the point of this scene. Showing the phantom surrounded by darkness symbolizes how the dark age of the law was caused by his actions. So, after he is taken down, the sun comes up to symbolize how order and hope has been resorted to the courts. Sure, the dark age of the law isn't the most well built up timeline in the series, but it does leave an impact." One sin added.
(Athena is acquitted.) Okay, now where is the confetti falling from? This courtroom has no roof.]
"Pierce fails at getting game logic. Had to get one last in before signing off, I guess." One sin added.
