Chapter Ten
Ringing In the New Year at Home, Part 1
Casey-Severide Loft – She needed to do something to calm herself down. To help her breathe and take it easy, which is precisely what she's in the midst of doing right now: taking a shower alone, emphasis on the alone part. Gabby specifically told her husband that she didn't want him in the shower with her this evening, as she needed a bit of time to herself to think; and while he was disappointed that he wouldn't get to be in the shower with his wife this evening, he understood. So, instead of taking a shower with his wife, he decided to do something else: get some food out for the both of them. The food that they were going to (originally) enjoy at the bar. But first, he needed to make sure that Gabby knew where he was as he tugged his shirt down and made his way over to the door to the washroom. And luckily for him, it was open a bit, revealing the gorgeous sight of his pregnant, naked wife in the shower. Yes, she was already in there as she ran upstairs ahead of him. And while it was a bit unnerving, he was okay now that he saw her breathing.
It was exactly what she needed right now, as she needed to relax for the sake of their child. Hell, maybe this is where the two of them should've been the entire time. They should've been here, at home, ringing in the New Year with each other. And while he thought they were going to do so in bed, Gabby told him that wasn't going to happen as she needed to relax for the sake of their baby, which he understood, as the last thing he wants to do is lose another baby. And they weren't, especially since they want to be parents more than anything. Hell, he even offered to cancel his last shift; but Gabby wasn't having it, due to the fact that they need the benefits. If he quits work in 2018, his benefits expire at midnight; but, if he works the shift of January 2nd, then his benefits expire at the end of the year. And that's precisely why Matt was going to work that shift, just so long as she's healthy that morning. But still, that doesn't mean that he won't take it easy; just like the two of them plan on doing tonight. Hell, he might even give up his sex tonight.
Yes, you heard that right; Matt was ready to give up his sex, the sex that was going to be to celebrate the fact that they're having a baby. Hell, he probably will due to the fact that they have friends living with them; and, Antonio is staying the night (after he talks to him). And that's precisely what he decided to tell Gabby. He wanted to tell her that he was going to talk to her brother and give him a piece of his mind, while also making sure that he knows what happened; that he knows everything that he knows, based on the countless conversations that he's had with Gabby since she came home. And that's precisely what Matt decided to tell Gabby right now. "Hey, can we talk for a minute?" Jumping as she heard Matt's voice, Gabby was just startled. "Damn baby, you startled me." Turning her head, Gabby looked at her husband. "What is it baby, is everything okay?" Matt nodded, as everything was okay, and she had nothing to worry about; he just wanted to let her know where he was going to be when she's done in the shower.
How he's going to talk to Antonio. "Yeah, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be downstairs when you get out." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, smiling at him. "Let me guess, you want to go talk to my brother?" Matt sighed as he made his way over to Gabby, before placing his hands on her hips; not really caring that she was wet. "Gabby, I know it doesn't need to be said. But, I really want this baby with you." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "And that means that I need him on his best behavior. You told him about what happened with Sylvie, right?" Gabby agreed with Matt, as she did. She told her brother everything. "Yeah, I did." Matt nodded as he heard Gabby say that, smiling at his wife. "Gabby, he's your brother and he took her side. I know, you want to yell at him; but you can't baby, you need to let me do that for you. Okay?" Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware of the reason why she needs to let him yell at her brother for her. "I know, for the baby." Matt smirked, agreeing with his wife.
After all, he can't wait to be a dad. "Our little Andy." Gabby agreed with Matt, as they most certainly will be naming their son Andrew; and they will be naming their daughter after Shay, maybe Elizabeth. "I was thinking Elizabeth for a daughter." Matt was surprised when he heard Gabby say that. "Really, not a Hispanic name?" Gabby smiled as she looked at Matt. "Elizabeth was Shay's middle name." Seeing a few tears come out of Gabby's eyes, Matt agreed with his wife as he got close to her; after which, he leaned in and kissed the woman he loves. "Remember what I told you, Shay knows that we're having a baby from heaven; and she's looking over us, to make sure that we have this little baby." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that was the case. "I know. And so is Andy." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, smiling as he leaned in and kissed her softly. "Listen, I'm going to be downstairs when you're done, okay? I'll talk to your brother, so please don't bring it up. Gabby, it's really early in the pregnancy and…" Matt sighed.
Meanwhile, Gabby got worried. "Hey, what's wrong baby?" Matt looked at his wife. "I don't want what I said to be right. I don't want my words to be true." Gabby sighed, well aware of what words he was talking about. He was talking about how he told her that she can't have a baby. "Baby, I know that. I know that you don't want that. And I promise that we will have a baby against the odds. We're going to be parents, and I can't wait to have a baby with you." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, smiling as he stepped closer to her. After which, Gabby wrapped her arm around his neck and smiled as she leaned in and kissed the man of her dreams softly, while also whispering to him. "You sure that I can't entice you to join me in the shower before you go downstairs?" Matt laughed, as he wanted to do that so bad. However, she invited her brother to join them for New Year's Eve. "Had you not invited your brother to join us for New Year's Eve, I would be all for it. But we're not taking a shower when your brother's downstairs." Antonio agreed with that.
And how did they know that he agreed? He just yelled upstairs. "GOT THAT RIGHT!" Turning his head, Matt yelled back. "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS ANTONIO, OR I TELL GABBY YOU TOOK A LOOK AT THE BEER WE HAVE IN THE FRIDGE!" Antonio was not happy when he said that. "MATT!" Gabby just looked at her husband as he said that, placing her hand on his face and kissing him softly. "You were always going to tell me, right?" Matt nodded, kissing his wife softly. "Listen, take your time in the shower. Breathe, relax, and take it easy. Hell, you want me to send Stella up here for a bit? You guys can talk and just breathe? Take a nap so we can stay up until midnight?" Gabby shook her head. "No, I'll come down. Just make sure that we get the couch, I want to lay down on you in case I need to sleep on your chest." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, as that was something he can do for her. "I promise." Gabby smiled, agreeing with the man she loves. "You're the best, I mean that Matt. And I love you more than anything." Matt agreed, smiling.
After all, he loves Gabby too. "And I love you more than anything, and damn am I proud to be your husband. But, listen…I need to go downstairs and make sure that he stays sober if he wants to be here. Take your time. And I promise you this, things will go okay tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday." Gabby agreed with her husband as he told her that, well aware of what he was talking about. He was talking about his last shift. "I know. By the way, you can tell my brother than I already agreed that you can work the last shift; he'll believe you." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, before grabbing her hand. "Or, I just tell him the truth that Boden couldn't find a floater in time." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the truth. "Yeah, that's right." Matt smiled, agreeing with the woman he loves. "Listen, I need to go before your brother is mad that I'm still up here; rather than being downstairs with him, monitoring his drinking." Gabby glared at her husband. "Did I say drinking? I mean, lack of drinking." Slapping his cheek, Gabby shook her head.
After all, her husband may be smart…but sometimes, he's quite dumb at the same time. "You're lucky you're cute." Matt was surprised when he heard Gabby say that. "CUTE!" Gabby smiled as she heard Matt say that, before kissing him again. "Shut up and calm down, before I decide that daddy doesn't get attention later in bed." Matt agreed with his wife as she told him that, well aware that she can do that. "I know." Placing his hand on the side of her face, Matt smiled as he leaned in and kissed the woman he loves softly. "I love you, forever. We're a team in everything. That's something you can count on for the rest of your Puerto Rican life." Gabby agreed with Matt, smiling as she's more than ready to live in Puerto Rico with her husband. "Can't wait. And I promise, we'll get our own place once we move down there." Matt agreed with Gabby. "Good, because I want a home for us and the baby." Gabby nodded, smiling as she kissed him again. "You're going to be a daddy." Matt laughed, smiling at his beautiful wife as he loved the sound of that.
He loved the sound of the name 'daddy' in reference to him. "Listen, you want to just stay up here until the food's here? We decided to order some Chinese Food. Apparently, Eva has a job there and is a delivery driver." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that sounds great. "Great, just make sure that I get to pick first if it comes here before I come down." Matt agreed with Gabby. "Or, I can make you a plate with your favorites; then, I can keep it warm in the microwave?" Gabby agreed with Matt, as that was a good idea too. "I like that idea." Matt agreed with his wife, smiling as he kissed her one last time. "I'll see you soon." Gabby agreed with Matt, smiling as she went back to her shower. Meanwhile, Matt turned around and went to go get dressed ahead of heading downstairs to talk to Antonio. Little did he know that he was cut to the chase by his best friend (who sees Gabby as his sister).
Walking down the spiral staircase of his, Gabby, Stella, and Severide's loft; Matt took a breath as he got ready to speak to his brother-in-law about how much of an idiot he is, though it seems like somebody's already started doing that for him. "Antonio, are you serious? I mean, what type of idiot does that to their sister! I mean, even I believed Gabby. Then again, not like I had a choice when her captain is my best friend." Looking at his best friend/roommate as he said that, Matt was shocked. "Excuse me? You believe my wife because she wouldn't lie about this." Stella agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that was the case. "That, and we wanted to just get out of there. Sylvie was trying to talk to us and try and give us her side, when we didn't want to hear it." Matt agreed with Stella as she said that, watching as she made her way over to him; after which, he hugged her. "Thanks for having our side." Leaning back, Stella was shocked that he even thought that she wouldn't take their side. "Matt, Gabby's my best friend. I'm on her side."
Matt agreed with Stella as she said that, well aware that was the case. "Good, so that means we can count on you to make sure that I stay safe during my last shift?" Kelly laughed as he heard Matt say that. "Man, we already spoke about this at the restaurant. Of course, I promise to make sure you're safe. I don't want to get beat up by this guy, or your wife." Matt laughed, well aware that can happen. "Listen, Gabby's in the shower for a bit to just take it easy and relax. And I was hoping to talk to my brother-in-law before the food got here." Stella agreed with Matt, well aware that he wants to talk to his brother-in-law. So, she decided to entice her boyfriend to join her in bed. "Hey Kelly, I think I might go get changed. Want to help me?" Smirking, Kelly agreed. "Yes, please." Grabbing her hand, he followed her out of the living room and away to their room. Meanwhile, Matt took a breath and crossed his arms. "Are they always like that?" Matt just glared at his brother-in-law, as that wasn't what they were talking about. Rather, this was between them.
This was between him and his brother-in-law, who was spending time with Sylvie; and he needed to make sure he understood what's been going on. "Listen, how about we sit down, and I can fill you in on what's going on between Sylvie and your sister?" Antonio agreed with Matt, as that's precisely what he wants right now. He wants to be filled on what's going on between Gabby and Sylvie. Because, there's clearly tension there that she doesn't know about. "Wait, is that why you asked Gabby to come back? Is she the woman you slept with?" Matt looked at Antonio as he said that. "I was separated and divorcing, so you can't judge me for that. And no, it wasn't Sylvie. God, just hearing that sounds disgusting!" Antonio agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "And we're not talking about my hypothetical kiss with Sylvie, we're talking about how you kissed Sylvie. Now, you want some water?" Antonio agreed with Matt, before sitting down on the couch. "You have any flavored water?" Matt agreed. "Lemon?" Smiling, Antonio agreed.
Meanwhile, Matt walked away. "So, listen. There's some things that happened between Gabby and Sylvie that you don't know about." Antonio got worried as he heard Matt say that. "Anything that I need to be worried about?" Matt shook his head. "No, it's under control. However, I do need to say this. Sylvie is not a part of our lives after how she treated my wife." Antonio agreed with Matt. "Yeah, I remember that now. Gabby mentioned it. How she threw the Ambo bag at her and stuff." Matt agreed with his brother-in-law as he said that, before going to grab the both of them some water. "And at the time Antonio, we thought that could've killed Gabby." Antonio was confused as he heard Matt say that. "Ok. How in the world is that the case?" Matt sighed. "At the time, we were under the impression that she had an aneurysm." Antonio then realized that, as that made a lot of sense. "Yeah, I get that now. By the way, I have to say this…I totally was on your side when Gabby told me what happened between you two."
Matt was taken aback as he thought he was dreaming after what he just swore he heard Antonio say, how he's on his side after what happened between him and Gabby. "Sorry, did I just hear that right? My ears must be deceiving me. Did you just say that you're on my side when it came to what happened between me and my wife." Antonio snickered, nodding. "I'll deny it if Gabby asks me." Matt nodded. "No, but seriously…I'm on your side because you were protecting my baby sister, even though you wanted to be a dad more than anything." Matt agreed with Antonio, before correcting him. "Correction, I want to be Gabby's husband more than anything. I just hate that it took a fire to make me realize just how horrible my life is without her." Antonio agreed with Matt as he said that, before realizing that he hasn't asked him about that yet. "By the way, I'm sorry about not asking about this sooner. But, how are you doing? You okay?" Matt nodded, as he was okay; especially now that he has the woman he loves back in his life. "I'm much better."
Antonio agreed with Matt as he said that. "I'm just glad that you're safe and back with my sister. And I truly am ecstatic over the fact that you guys are having a baby. I know that it's something which you guys have wanted for the longest time. So, for you guys to be getting that now must be a dream come true." Matt agreed with his brother-in-law, as it most certainly is a dream come true. "Oh, it most certainly is a dream come true. I'm already so happy over the fact that we're going to be having a baby that I'm already practicing getting up in the middle of the night." Antonio laughed. "Ok. So, listen. I get that this is going to come out of the blue, but you really moving to Puerto Rico?" Matt agreed with Antonio, as he most certainly is moving to Puerto Rico; especially since there's nowhere he'd rather be than with his wife. "Antonio, of course I'm moving to Puerto Rico. I want to be with Gabby, the woman I love more than anything in the entire world. Especially now that she's pregnant with our baby." Antonio agreed with Matt, smiling at him.
After all, he can clearly see just how happy he is that Gabby's pregnant. "So, how's Gabby feeling with the baby and everything?" Matt snickered as Antonio asked him that question. "Don't worry Antonio, she's fine and more than ready to have a baby. Plus, she's still early in her pregnancy; hell, I'm wondering whether we should even be telling people. But, we agreed to do it so that people can hear it from us while we're still here, rather than when we're away." Antonio agreed. "You already tell my parents?" Matt smiled. "We told your mom on boxing day and your dad the day after. He was so happy, just hates that we're moving away again. By the way, I'd appreciate it if we kept the whole…" Antonio agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware that he doesn't want THAT (the other woman) getting back to him. "Oh, and for what it's worth…I didn't sleep with her." Antonio was surprised. "You didn't?" Matt shook his head. "She was drunk, and it wasn't safe for her to drive, so she stayed in the guest room. I couldn't as I thought about Gabby."
Taking a breath. "We were making out on the couch, and I moaned Gabby's name instead of hers. So, that's when I knew that I wasn't ready to move on. Then the fire happened, and we got back together. The rest is history and I'm a very happy man to have Gabby back in my life." Snickering, Antonio took a sip of his water. "More like a very lucky man, as my sister is very forgiving when it comes to you." Matt then looked at him, as the same could be said in regard to him. "I could say the same about you Antonio, especially after what happened at the bar earlier this evening." Antonio agreed with his brother-in-law, well aware that was the case. "Yeah, I'm going to shut up right now." Matt agreed with Antonio as he said that, as that most certainly is something that he should do. He should shut up and just concentrate on drinking what he's drinking. "So, anything else we need to talk about?" Matt smiled. "We did say that we were going to talk about Puerto Rico." Antonio nodded. "So, what's the plan there? Like, what job are you looking at? Firefighter again?"
Matt snickered, as that most certainly was not going to be his (full-time) job. "No, I decided that I wouldn't do that for a while. I have to go through training so that I know how to be a firefighter in Puerto Rico first. Gabby needs me to do that so that I can stay safe. But, I may go ahead and start teaching the next generation at the Puerto Rico Fire Academy. Actually, that's the job I have. I'm the newest instructor there." Antonio smiled as he heard Matt say that. "Well, congratulations Matt. I have no idea that you're going to be a great addition to both of the teams." Matt was a bit confused as he heard Antonio say that, as he wasn't sure what other team he was talking about. "What other team might you be talking about?" Matt smiled. "The volunteer team. Oh, and I am also on the reserve list for wildfire season. But, I only work in town rather than in the fires." Antonio nodded, as that made sense. "Let me guess, that's part of the deal you made with my sister?" Matt shook his head. "No, it's a requirement for my job. Instructors at the ABPR are also reserves."
Antonio was confused as he heard Matt say ABPR as he had no idea what that was. "Sorry, what's the ABPR?" Matt snickered. "La Academia de Bomberos de Puerto Rico." Antonio agreed with Matt as he said that, well aware of what that was. "Now, that makes sense. Of course, you're going to use the initialism." Matt agreed, as his Spanish wasn't the best (yet). "My Spanish isn't the best yet, but I'm going to work on it for when I'm working there; especially since I know that Gabby's going to drag me to work a lot." That was when Matt heard Gabby come down. "Oh, shut up. You're going to want to spend time with me as you missed me." Turning his head, Matt was surprised. "Hey, what are you doing down here?" Gabby sighed. "I'm going to want spend time alone in bed with you later, so I decided to come down here for a bit and see my brother. Where are Kelly and Stella?" Looking at his wife, Matt raised his eyebrow to tell her exactly where their friends are. "Seriously? And I thought I was the hormonal one." Antonio snickered as Gabby said that.
After all, she did just take a shower with her husband while he was here; but before he could say anything, Gabby stopped him. "I would shut up if I were you, as I'm not happy with you." Antonio laughed a bit. "What do you want for Christmas?" Walking over to the kitchen to grab some water, Gabby looked at her brother. "I'm not Matt, I can't be bought." Matt nodded as Gabby said that, until he realized what she said. "HEY!" Looking at her husband, Gabby gave him a bit of side eye. "You cave when I give you sex, and when I told you that I'd rather be pregnant in Puerto Rico than here in Chicago." Matt nodded. "Hey, we were moving to Puerto Rico BEFORE we even learned that we were pregnant." Gabby smiled, agreeing with Matt as he said that. "I know, I just like saying it and playing with you since I know it drives you nuts." Matt smirked, agreeing with the woman he loves. "I'm already sitting here on the couch in my sweats, come join me after?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as that's precisely what she plans on doing.
Walking into the living room after getting herself some water, Gabby smiled as she made her way over to her husband so that she can sit down in his lap, which is precisely where she wants to be, especially now that Matt has the New Year's Eve show on. "Thanks for putting the show on." Matt shook his head as Gabby said that, as he was more than happy to put it on for her. "I was more than happy to do it for you Gabby, I want to make you happy after all." Antonio snickered as he heard Matt say that. "Correction, he wants to get laid tonight." Staring at her brother as he said that, Gabby made her way over to him before dumping her water all over him. "What the fuck, Gabby!" Gabby smirked as she looked at her brother. "Oops, I spilled. Can you do your sister a favor and go grab me another glass of water?" Gabby then set her glass of water down on the side table next to his chair, while also turning around to look at her husband (who was laughing). "Yeah, that made you laugh, didn't it?" Matt agreed with his wife, smiling at the woman he loves.
He then smiled as he extended his hand to get her to sit down, which is precisely what Gabby did. She sat down in his lap and then cuddled up to him, while Matt grabbed the blanket on the back of the couch to cover them both up (which is precisely what Gabby wanted him to do as it's very comfortable); in the process, he made sure that the both of them were warm this evening. Turning his head, he soon pressed his lips to Gabby's forehead (while whispering to her). "If you get too tired to stay down here, then you tell me and we'll move to our room and just hold each other there instead of down here." Turning her head, Gabby looked up at Matt and nodded. "We need to eat first." Matt remembered that, nodding as he ran his hand up and down her back; while Antonio looked at his sister. "I asked Eva to text me when she's on her way if you want to go rest some more sis." Gabby shook her head. "I want to be right where I am, here with my husband." Antonio smiled. "Where you should've always been in my opinion." Gabby sighed.
After all, that was the last thing she wanted to talk about. "Antonio, seriously?" Shaking his head, Matt looked at Gabby before pressing his lips to her forehead. "I'm not arguing about this when you need to keep your stress levels down." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that. "Antonio, we're back together for the rest of our lives. Get over it. Just shut up and stay there or leave. You're our guest after all." Antonio laughed. "Yeah, I came here with one goal; and it was so that I could speak to Matt on behalf of both me and our dad." Turning his head, Matt wasn't happy. "I'm getting up Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt as she got up. "Want me to go to bed and wait there for you?" Matt shook his head. "After supper." Gabby agreed with Matt, before sitting back down, while he looked at Antonio. "Get up." Antonio was confused. "What?" Matt just looked at his brother-in-law again. "Get up, you're leaving! You're not staying here and ruining my night." Gabby was confused as she heard Matt say that. "How?" Matt sighed.
He then turned his head and explained. "I just learned that I'm going to be a dad." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case, which explains why he wants Antonio to leave. "Get up, you're leaving." Antonio was shocked as he heard Matt say that, before turning to look at his sister. "Gabby…" Gabby shook her head as she decided to get up and walk upstairs to bed. "You already pushed it when you kissed Sylvie. That's enough now Antonio as I want Gabby to relax." Antonio sighed, before just agreeing with Matt as he knew that it was no use fighting with the both of them when he was (obviously) leaving regardless. So, he just left so that the couple could have some time alone and just relax for the sake of their child. The child who they want more than anything in the entire world, and who they can't wait to meet. And in order for them to do that, they need to take things easy and just relax; which is why Matt decided that he was going to take a shower (like Gabby) so that he could calm down and take it easy.
But, only after they have supper.
