I don't own Disney's The Owl House. I do, however own the Main OC. Hope you all enjoy my story on this lovely show.

Chapter Five

It has been a few days since arriving on the Boiling Isles. Lessons with Eda were going great, well in potions in general. For the rest of the magic, not so much. With a new day starting, Eda had geared Danielle towards a nearby beach. A certain pungent smell was in the air as Eda and Danielle came upon the source, a beached dead slug.

"Well, Danielle!" said Eda, elbowing Danielle. "Did you ever in your life think you'd see something as breathtaking as this?"

"As in take your breath away," said Danielle, pinching her nose. "Then yeah, I'm gagging here."

"Yes, it doesn't get much more inspiring than the trash slug. It makes a home, a life from what others have thrown by the wayside," said Eda, walking over to the slug and pulling a chicken out of its mouth. "Until, blam, it gets blasted by a wave one day and croaks from all the salt. And then we get to sell the stuff it ate."

"Don't make me do this," said Danielle, while Eda tried to give her a pickaxe.

"Aw, come on, Danielle," said King, walking away and unfurling a towel. "It's not every day you get to go to the dump and pick apart a garbage carcass."

"Ah, nuts to you both," said Eda, swinging the pickaxe.

"So, Eda," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "Why not go back to the house and do more potion lessons? Or we could read tomes or figure out runes."

"Ugh," said Eda, tossing things from the trash slug. "That sounds like a bunch of magic school stuff."

"There's a school here?" said Danielle, quirking her eyebrow.

"Mm-hmm. What's worse, they force you to learn magic the "proper" way," said Eda, before staring at Danielle. "But magic isn't proper. It's wild and unpredictable. And that's why it's so beautiful. I didn't finish school, and look at me! Who wouldn't envy where I am right now?"

"Something I plan on finishing when I find mom and return home," said Danielle, waving the smell away.

"Uh... Hey, here's a lesson," said Eda, grabbing Danielle's hand and putting it in slug bile. "A great magic-user is resourceful… like this."

"It's a seed."

"Great, barf covered seed," said Danielle, staring at the seed.

"Use your barf covered seed wisely, young one," said Eda, closing Danielle's hand around the seed.

"Mmm, point taken," said Danielle, wrapping the seed in a tissue before pocketing it. "I'll figure it out eventually."

"Back at it!" said Eda, going back over to the trash slug. "We'll hit the stink nodes first."

"If it's okay with you," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "I'd like to hike around the area."

"Alright," said Eda, staring at Danielle. "More for me, then."

"Be a good boy while I'm gone King," said Danielle, rubbing King's belly before walking away. "Ya little beach peach."

"Ow!" shouted King, with a tuba being tossed onto his head.

"This is awesome!" said Eda, riffling through the garbage again.

Walking down a path in the nearby forest, Danielle stares at the marvels around her. Here and there, Danielle would study a plant more closely. And at times, dodge a bug that wanted to bite her. Hearing noise nearby, Danielle hides behind a tree before peering in the direction of the noise.

"You can do it! You can!" said a Feminine Voice, gaining Danielle's attention.

"Oh, a young witch," said Danielle, noticing it was a girl around her age pacing about.

"You can do it. Even if you get a bad grade, it's not a reflection of you as a witch. And my parents are right," said the Young Female Witch, stopping her pacing. "There are better opportunities on this track. Now, get to school!"

"Willow… She's much more suited towards the Plant track."

"Oh, no! Oh, little friend! I'm sorry!" said Willow, utilizing magic to perk up the little flower she stepped on.

"She looks like she needs some help," said Danielle, about to step out only for another young witch girl to while riding on a wagon.

"Willow! Wow," said the Young Witch Girl, hopping off the wagon. "You're so unnoticeable I almost rolled into ya."

"Hi, Amity," said Willow, standing up while the flower wilts.

"This can't be good," said Danielle, staring at Willow and Amity.

"Uh, shouldn't you get to class early to prep your..." said Amity, only to see Willow's pot tumbled and leak out her work. "Oh, Willow. You don't have anything to show, do you?"

"Yeah… Amity is kinda… a bully at this point."

"This is why people call you "Half-a-Witch Willow"," said Amity, before hearing rattling from her pot. "Oh, looks like someone wants to say something to you. Abomination, rise."

"You're a... star," said the Abomination, poking Willow's forehead and leaving a star-shaped sludge mark.

"Aw. It's like mine. But much smaller and meaningless," said Amity, adjusting her badge before putting an arm around Willow. "As top student, it's my duty to tell you to keep at it. Even you could get a passing grade someday. Abomination, cower."

"Top student my foot," thought Danielle, glaring at Amity.

"See you in class, superstar," said Amity, pushing her wagon towards the school.

"Great, she's gone," thought Danielle, coming out from hiding. "Now's my chance to help."

""Oh, see you in class, superstar!"" said Willow, wiping the sludge mark off. "I hate when she does that."

"Huh…" said Danielle, feeling the wind pick up.

"I hate making abominations. I hate getting bad grades. Ugh! I can't stand this anymore," shouted Willow, her eyes glowing green.

"Ooh my," said Danielle, backing up from the thorny roots withering around Willow. "Please calm down! Aah!"

"Oh, no, no, no, no, no!" said Willow, hearing Danielle and running over, seeing a slash mark on Danielle's left cheek. "I'm so sorry!"

"Don't worry, it'll heal," said Danielle, touching the wound.

"So... circly," said Willow, noticing Danielle's ears before gasping. "You're human! This is astounding! A human on the Boiling Isles! How'd you get here? What are you doing here?"

"To search for my mom," replied Danielle, sighing.

"Your mom?" said Willow, confused.

"Story for later," said Danielle, looking at Willow. "Ignore what that girl said."

"Easier said than done," said Willow, kicking at the spilled abomination.

"From what I just saw, plants are your forte. Why not transfer over to that track?" asked Danielle, only for Willow to give her a sad look. "If it helps, I'll come with. Name's Danielle."

"You sure?" asked Willow, staring at Danielle.

"Positive," said Danielle, walking in the direction she saw Amity go. "This way, right?"

Following after Danielle, Willow shows the rest of the way to school while pushing her wagon. Danielle helps by grabbing a handle and pushing alongside Willow. It didn't take long to reach the school and enter the central atrium. Danielle looks around in wonder at the school.

"This is such a beautiful school," said Danielle, staring around the atrium.

"Welcome to Hexside School of Magic and Demonics," said Willow, seeing Danielle marvel at the school.

"Give Willow the seed. It will help prove she's meant for the Plant track."

"So, what do you have planned?" asked Willow, adjusting her glasses.

"First, here," said Danielle, taking the seed out of her pocket and unwrapping it. "I think this will help."

"A seed," said Willow, grabbing the seed. "What's next?"

"I'll go talk to the principal and see if he'll come see you do your thing with your magic," said Danielle, staring at Willow before gesturing around the central atrium. "This area is big enough to let whatever plant grows from that seed to show the principal that the Plant track is for you."

"Are you sure about this?" asked Willow, gripping the seed.

"I'm gonna try my best," replied Danielle, pocketing her hands.

"Alright," said Willow, before giving directions to the principal's office and watching Danielle walk away. "I hope this works."

"Principal office, principal office…" said Danielle, following the directions she was given only to be bumped into by a young witch boy. "Oomph."

"Sorry," said the Young Witch Boy, staring at his magazine before showing Danielle the article he was reading. "Hey, did you know that humans nail barbed wire to their kids' teeth? But why? Maybe to make them magnetic."

"Actually, it's for aligning and straightening teeth and help position them with regard to a person's bite, while also aiming to improve dental health," said Danielle, looking at the article. "They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, open bites, gaps, deep bites, cross bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw."

"Huh…" said the Young Witch Boy, before getting a real good look at Danielle. "No. No, it-it couldn't be. A human!"

"Uh yeah, hi," said Danielle, pushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Names Danielle."

"Where are your gills?" asked the Young Witch Boy, staring at Danielle.

"We don't have gills," replied Danielle, before pointing down the hall. "I really need to get going. I'm trying to help someone get into their rightful track."

"Sounds like Willow," said the Young Witch Boy, folding the magazine. "You've met Willow? When?"

"Not long ago," replied Danielle, about to walk away. "I'm going to try and convince the principal to see her."

"Oh, I can show the way," said the Young Witch Boy, grabbing Danielle's hand and leading the way. "By the way, I'm Augustus. I study under the Illusion track here. I'm also president of the Human Appreciation Society."

"I knew an Augustus in school," said Danielle, yanking her hand free and pocketing it. "Everyone called him Gus. Had art class with him."

"Gus? Nickname? Human nickname? Gus?" shouted Augustus, getting excited. "Call me it. Wow. Gus! This is the best day of my life!"

"You must really enjoy learning about my kind," said Danielle, looking at Gus.

"Yup," said Gus, before stopping in front of the door to the principal's office. "This is Principal Bump's office. See you later."

"Bye. Okay, moment of truth," said Danielle, knocking on the door and opening it slightly. "Hello, can I come in?"

"You may," said Principal Bump, writing something down while gesturing Danielle in. "How may I help you?"

"Well…" said Danielle, taking some deep breaths before staring at Principal Bump. "I met a student that comes here and I feel like she's in the wrong track."

"Oh," said Principal Bump, stopping his work and looking at Danielle. "How so?"

"Well, when I saw her, it looked like her abomination, was it?" said Danielle, looking at Principal Bump. "Wasn't holding. But when she utilized plant magic, it was like she was at home in her element. Is there any way to transfer her over to the Plant track?"

"What's this student's name?" asked Principal Bump, going over to a shelf.

"Her name is Willow," replied Danielle, watching Principal Bump riffle through the files. "Don't know her surname yet."

"Ah! Willow Park, I presume," said Principal Bump, grabbing the file and showing Danielle.

"Yup, that's her," said Danielle, looking at the photo of Willow.

"I admit young Willow started with learning plant magic," said Principal Bump, staring at Danielle, squinting as he looked at her ears underneath her hair. "But was put on the Abomination track, courtesy of her Papa."

"Well, I have Willow waiting in the central atrium with a seed I gave her," said Danielle, pocketing her hands. "Is there any way you have the time to watch Willow and see her perform plant magic?"

"I don't see why not," said Principal Bump, before standing up. "Though it is interesting to see a human here in Hexside."

"Uh, yeah… about that," said Danielle, only to back away from an abomination that Principal Bump conjured up. "Okay, I'm assuming… byeeeee!"

Running out of the principal's office, Danielle runs down the hallways of Hexside. Not far behind, Principal Bump followed, sending multiple Abominations to grab Danielle. Hiding behind a pillar, Danielle swaps over to her inline skates and zips on past Principal Bump, confusing him. Seeing an open door, Danielle hightails into the room and slamming the door shut before noticing Amity.

"Wha... Who-who are you?" asked Amity, angry that she was interrupted when presenting her abomination. "You're interrupting my presentation."

"Can it, princess," said Danielle, staring at Amity.

"Pri-pri-princess?!" said Amity, her face turning red with anger.

"Would you prefer prefect?" asked Danielle, before pointing at Amity. "You know, a top student wouldn't demoralize their fellow classmates. Instead, they should encourage them, if not stay behind and help them with their work if they're having a hard time."

"Wait…" said Amity, realization dawning on her.

"Yeah, I was there," said Danielle, staring at Amity. "Also, a top student shouldn't have such a condescending tone."

"Whoa, I can't believe someone is talking that way to Amity," said a Student, watching the exchange.

"Bet they will get thrown in the detention pit," whispered another Student, staring at Danielle.

"Huh… oh, I'm in a classroom," said Danielle, slightly chuckling while looking around the room. "My bad."

"It looks like we have an intruder in our school," said a Teacher, staring at Danielle. "Miss Blight, I'll give you extra credit if you bring this intruder in."

"Gladly," said Amity, spell circles around her wrists before seeing the door torn off by an abomination. "What…"

"That's my cue to skedaddle," said Danielle, skating under the abomination then down the hall. "Byeeee!"

Skating down the halls as fast as she could, Danielle dodges the abominations that were still chasing after her. Plus, Amity's abominations that were now after her with Amity not far behind. Grabbing one of the exploding potions that she still had left behind from the Adegast quest, Danielle throws some at the abominations that were blocking her. Some strange red lines were beginning to cover the hallways.

"Okay, these are barriers," said Danielle, passing though one before it closed off the entrance, only to be tripped by one of Amity's Abomination making her fall from a higher area in the central atrium. "Aaaah!'

"Danielle!" shouted Willow, hearing and seeing Danielle from the upper level before putting a spell circle around the seed in her hand. "Please grow!"

Thorny vines grow from the seed, reaching to the ceiling. They stab through the abominations and eventually target Principal Bump who was nearby, sending him to the ceiling and pinning him there. Amity was also caught in the vines and was tangled. Vines now cover the entire atrium, curled around pillars and reaching from the bottom most floor to the absolute ceiling. Pink petals fall from above, and several of the vines have flowers on them. Danielle was caught in them and was lowered towards Willow.

"Oh my gosh," said Danielle, hugging Willow. "Thank you, Willow."

"You're welcome," said Willow, hugging Danielle back.

"Remarkable," said Principal Bump, staring at the display of Willow's magic. "The human was right."

"I told you so," said Danielle, hearing Principal Bump and staring at him.

"I'm not letting you get away so easily," shouted Amity, finally untangled from the vines and staring down Danielle. "Abominations, seize!"

"Looks like Miss Prefect doesn't know when to quit," said Danielle, grabbing an exploding potion from her pocket.

"Miss Blight, that is quite enough," said Principal Bump, being lowered to ground level.

"But…" said Amity, looking at Principal Bump. "The intruder!"

"Is a guest of Miss Park," said Principal Bump, before twirling his finger and changing the color on Willow's uniform. "And now apart of the Plant track."

"Thanks Principal Bump," said Willow, staring at her uniform.

"This is great Willow. Fist bump," said Danielle, only to confuse Willow. "Bump my fist with yours. Its meaning varies with the context of use but can include as a greeting, congratulations, or celebration."

"Okay," said Willow, fist bumping Danielle before giggling.

"Me next, me next!" said Gus, running on over and fist bumping Danielle as well. "Oh. Oh, my. Oh, man, what a rush!"

"Augustus, what are you doing here?" asked Willow, staring at Gus.

"The school's magic barrier went up when I was in the bathroom," replied Gus, looking at Willow and Danielle. "Plus, I got a human nickname now. Call me Gus."

"Yeah, I met Gus while I was looking for the principal's office," said Danielle, rubbing the back of her head. "Showed me the rest of the way."

"What I'm curious about is how you're here," said Principal Bump, walking over and looking at Danielle. "And where you're staying."

"Yeah, there was this portal…" said Danielle, tapping her foot on the ground. "I'm staying at the Owl House."

"Oh no," said Principal Bump, pinching the bridge of his nose then looking at Danielle. "Edalyn Clawthorne's place."

"I actually know her as Eda," said Danielle, looking at Principal Bump. "But, yeah, that's her. She's my mentor as of right now. Already know how to make blabber serum and fog brew. Still working on exploding potions."

"Hmm, not bad," said Principal Bump, impressed. "Though I highly doubt Eda will allow you to attend Hexside."

"We'll cross that bridge when it comes," said Danielle, pocketing her hands.

"Be that as it may, you still came into this school without letting me know you were with Willow," said Principal Bump, folding his arms behind his back.

"Yeah," said Danielle, kicking her foot back and forth. "Sorry."

"You're banned from Hexside for a while," said Principal Bump, staring at Danielle. "I'll lift it eventually."

"Okay," said Danielle, watching Principal Bump head back to his office while ushering Amity to follow him.

"What now?" asked Willow, looking at Danielle.

"I'm going back to the Owl House," said Danielle, heading to the front doors of Hexside. "I've been gone long enough. Don't want to worry Eda. See ya around."

"Bye," said Willow and Gus, waving bye to Danielle. "We'll come to the Owl House and visit you."

"Okay," said Danielle, waving bye as well.

Heading back to the Owl House, Danielle comes across Eda running her way. Waving at Eda, Danielle spots not far away, a trash slug eating dog biscuits tossed by King.

"Goodness kid," said Eda, staring at Danielle. "I almost thought you went to Hexside for a minute there."

"Actually, I did," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Helped a student get into their preferred track."

"Oh," said Eda, staring at Danielle.

"Right now, I'm banned for a bit," said Danielle, walking alongside Eda.

"Banned, then there should…" said Eda, only for a poster to magically appear before her. "Ah, baby's first wanted poster. Good job, kid. Looks like I taught you something after all."

"Yup," said Danielle, getting her hair ruffled by Eda. "That seed really helped, saved my life back there. I'll tell you later."

"So, did you find your runaway student?" asked King, seeing Eda walk over with Danielle by her side.

"Right here King," said Danielle, staring at King. "Why is there a trash slug here?"

"To be my loyal soldier," replied King, tossing more dog biscuits into the trash slug's mouth.

"All it wants is those treats."

"To install loyalty, there has to be some form of discipline and trust," said Danielle, watching King toss more dog biscuits toward the trash slug. "Have you just been giving it treats whenever?"

"Yeah, why?" asked King, shaking the dog biscuit box only to reveal no more left and the trash slug growling behind him. "Ah!"

"That's why," said Danielle, seeing the trash slug grab King by his tail. "King!"

"Help me, help me, help me!" shouted King, his hands grabbed by Danielle who tried to pull him free. "Please help me! You can call me Mr. Wiggles!"

"What? Why would I call you that?" asked Danielle, staring at King then Eda. "What happened while I was gone? Also, if this thing is anything like the slugs back home, get a barrel of salt."

"Alright," said Eda, magicking a barrel of salt towards them.

"Whoa!" shouted Danielle and King, being tossed in the air and swallowed whole alongside the open barrel of salt.

The trash slug shivers and makes noises of protest, before barfing Danielle and King back up. Shrinking back to its original size, the trash slug whimpers as it runs off. Covered in slime, Danielle and King stare at Eda as they shake some of the slime off.

"Yeah, I'm gonna need to hear that story sooner rather than later," said Danielle, shaking more slime off as she heads back toward the Owl House. "After I shower, that is."
