When the news of ONI's intentions were aired in regard to the Sutton Expedition, the outrage back on Earth was, as expected, massive.

PR worked just for a week to stave off the incoming tsunami of negativity that suddenly saw ONI closed up as riots manifested against the various facilities all over Earth and other planets. It didn't help that those Anti-ONI elements within the UNSC Security Council and the UEG's Parliament saw for legislation against ONI.

Parangosky was secured within the second week before she could have done anything to escape this situation. The men sent by Johnson had intercepted the woman while she tried to make her way to Kenya, where ONI's Alpha Base was located. A firefight ensued between the Marines and the ONI Agents trying to protect their boss, only for the veterans to easily clean the defenders and get Parangosky on an aerial convoy to the UNSC Security Council.

While she was mostly gagged and tied up, the woman had the opportunity to speak. The vitriolic glare sharpened a tone that was as desperate as threatening. Gone was the deflection as the former leader of the Intelligence Branch was getting grilled by both foes and former allies.

Claim of allegiance from some of the members were dismissed. Johnson wasn't sure what kind of stuff was exchanged before the bitch had been brought in front of her fellow Admirals, Generals and superiors, but the outcome was that the Security Council was up for a tense but united front.

After some deliberation, the woman was kept in an unspecified area. She was cleaned up for any suspicious substances and tricks on herself and her clothes. Two microchips were found, removed, and used to plan an ambush a few 'loyalists' trying to make a desperate rescue attempt.

The ambush worked wonders as the news of rogue agents of the ONI kind having been suppressed wrecked what little loyalty was left through the fearmongering of the former leader of the organization. Parangosky's behavior also changed. Gone was the bitter but strong woman, the former Admiral seemingly aging up in the next two weeks as she refused to eat and go through the basic needs of her body. Nurses and Doctors were first checked upon and then sent to assist the woman 'in living for as long as the council deemed enough'.

Johnson knew that the woman had accepted her demise. Visiting her three times through month-long period of uncertainty had told him she was ready for it. And he couldn't fault her for this defeatism. The issue was judged by both civilian and military organizations.

The UEG actually united in letting the UNSC make the call considering that Paragonsky's most heinous crimes which were found through a in-depth investigation of her shady deals had proved the questionable loyalty of some senators. Surprisingly enough, none of those opposed the decision with only those of Nationalistic rhetoric trying to make a faux last stand over the 'patriotic ideals of a misunderstood veteran'.

Sutton's testimony, mixed with those of the representatives involved the ordeal, SIF's report, and even Hood's own harsh words were key in settling a rather rigid tone within the Security Council. There was quite a lot of nervous faces, with Johnson seeing this as just proof that many of those bastards had a hand on creating someone like Parangosky and allowing her to keep power for so long.

The verdict of the Death Penalty wasn't up for voting. The real dilemma was how to kill her off. The situation was unique- no one could really say history ever had any similar individuals going to the deep extents of the former ONI leader, but several meetings saw the consensus focusing on an execution by Firing Squadron.

With this big mess solved, another one unfolded. A lottery was discovered by Johnson, and the Sarge had many reasons to be fucking mixed about it. There were many good Marines that wanted a piece of Parangosky.

The many operations set to slow down the UNSC's progress in killing the rebels and then the efforts to try and secure Covenant's technology at the expense of human lives that didn't need to be wasted- no one was happy with the bitch, and they were all ready to be selected for the squadron. Some managed to get through, others, those that had been far too violent about it, were found and restrained to try anything funny for this process.

When the public learned of the execution date and modality, there was some uproar because it wasn't going to be broadcasted. While some of the Security Council wanted to show off the murder of 'the greatest traitor since Benedict Arnold', the overall decision, supported and even pressed upon by the UEG's government, was for it to be dealt with as a somber affair.

Making a spectacle of military executions would be a negative way to handle potential punishments of this kind. Parangosky was the beginning, with others now on the line due to either being tied to those gross crimes or being accessory to those.

The process for that was going to take various years if not decades to see its closure. Johnson already regretted having decided to keep around in the Marines until he wasn't capable of holding a rifle, but he got a first seat position for the bitch's execution.

His ears rang as the guns cracked, the woman broken by the bullets and tore apart as some of those motherfuckers killing her had some of the best aims in the whole UNSC. Two got clean headshots, but others aimed at her face, chest and even legs.

Once she was ruled as dead, her body was to be cremated and her ashes put somewhere unspecified to any data. The last thing the UNSC wanted was for some pseudo-cultish clique to form around her spirit or shit like that. Johnson would have gone the extra step and asked the Covenant to hide it for them. Well, what had been salvaged of the 'Gooder' Covenant, at least.

As Earth embarked in the tedious project of peace, news that the Covenant Rebellion had seen the revolters successfully suppress the major sites of rebellion stirred a sense of relief through the entire military. Earth had won against a stronger foe, its many enemies from it and within its own ranks had been taken care of and thus...

Peace was upon them.

Either next chapter is the last, or it will be two. Still, Story is wrapping up. It was a good run.
