It's done
The remaining Avengers and Guardians floated on their ship in space with Wendy and Colin flying outside.
"Who here hasn't been into space?" asked Rocket.
"All the Avengers held up their hands,"
"Don't throw up," he warned.
"Putting in coordinates," Tina typed them into the computer. She looked out the window to the twins who nodded. "Preparing for space-jumping,"
"Three. Two. One…" Nebula counted down. Whoosh! They were gone.
Peter sat at the kitchen table, silently crying, mourning for all his losses. He heard Valkyrie's steps but didn't turn to her. She offered a nice warm drink. He didn't take it. "Take it," she insisted. "It'll do you good,"
Still, he wouldn't. "Why are you and that Asgardian girl being so nice to me?" he asked with a gloomy voice. "You both should hate me,"
"Oh, believe me, we are so mad at you," she couldn't hide it. "But we're not like your sister. Try and drink something," she offered again.
He sighed and took it. He sipped it slowly. He didn't care whether it was too hot or not.
"I don't blame you for what happened,". She pursed her lips as she observed a tear fall from Peter's eye and his lips trembling. "He took someone you cared about. That's not something you just…let go,". He remained silent like a ghost. "They're gonna get the stones back and they're gonna bring everyone back,"
"Not her," He mourned for his Gamora. "I never even got the chance to say 'goodbye' to her. "She would be ashamed of what I did, how I failed everyone. I don't even want to be here. Not this planet,"
"I know who you are," she said, earning his attention. "Jesse mentioned you and your twin disappeared from Earth years ago,"
He turned away again. "He's right about that. Neither of us has been back here since our mother died. After we were taken by Ravangers,"
"How long were you two gone exactly?"
"About thirty years,"
"And you both never thought to come back?"
"Our mother died in front of us here. And the reason that happened is because our father killed her so he wouldn't become too attached to this planet. It's a real nightmare even being here. But nothing is worse than being rejected by the only people you have left in your life,"
Valkyrie patted his shoulder. "The only thing you can do is just give them space and time. Whatever they said to you, they didn't mean it like that. They're just…"
"They're right to reject me," he stood up and faced the wall, crossing his arms. "I screwed up the plan to get Thanos's gauntlet, forcing the wizard to give up the stone to save Stark, allowing him to destroy half the universe. Including so many of my own team,". His voice was breaking again. "I let them all down. I've lost everyone I care about. And because of me, trillions of others have lost their loved ones too,". He walked away again not wanting to be around anyone at all.
After over thirty jumps, the team finally made it to the planet where Thanos was supposed to be.
"We're gonna check for any means of surveillance," Colin contacted through the coms. "Don't make a move,"
He and Wendy dived down towards the planet, leaving the others to sit silently in the ship. Nebula and Bruce eyed Rocket and Tina with Orlins in his small form around her neck, venting.
"Guys look…." Bruce tried to say. "I know you guys are mad…but once we undo this…try to talk to him,". They wouldn't respond.
"The others wouldn't have wanted this," Nebula tried to reach out but once again their attempts were futile. She decided to try and reach for Tina. "Mantis wouldn't have wanted…."
"He wouldn't have wanted to be turned to ash," Tina snapped gently. "I trusted Peter to work well with him, to keep the other half of our team safe…but he killed them all,"
"Don't say that about him," Una argued. "If it was Mantis who Thanos killed, you would have reacted in the same way,"
"Don't compare me to him!" Tina retorted angrily.
Before the girls could argue more, Colin and Wendy appeared in front of the windscreen. "No satellites. No ships. No armies. No ground surveillance," the latter reported. "Completely defenceless and alone. Just him,"
"He's not completely defenceless," reminded Rocket. "He's still got that gauntlet,"
"And we're gonna get it," approved Colin.
In a valley in a wooden hut, Thanos, unarmed put potatoes in a pot to make stew. Something audible and distant echoed outside. But when he raised his head, he looked up and saw two blurs of cosmic energy blasted through the roof. He was knocked back. Then he saw two figures shooting at the speed of light right into him. He knocked one of them back but the other held him in a headlock. The other one twisted his gauntleted arm and he screamed in pain. Then Bruce in a giant iron suit appeared out of the wall and grabbed his other arm. Then Rhodey came flying in with Una and with a flash of her sword she cut off his hand making him scream.
Steve, Natasha, Nebula, Tina, Orlins, and Rocket walked into the hut. The guardians knelt and pushed the gauntlet over. But there were no stones.
"Oh no," breathed the horrified racoon. Without the stones, they couldn't bring anyone back.
The Avengers eyed each other with dismay. "Where are they?" demanded Steve.
Thanos, whose face was half-singed and black, didn't answer as Wendy kept her arm hooked around his neck and thick head. "Answer the question!" she ordered.
"The universe required correction," chocked out the Titan. "After that, the stones served no purpose…beyond temptation.
"You murdered trillions!" Bruce smashed his fist into Thanos's face knocking him down to the floor.
"Thanos, you have got ten seconds to tell us where they are!" Tina threatened cold, pointing one of her guns in his face. "Or I'm gonna blast that ugly chin right of your ugly face,"
"You should be grateful,"
"'Grateful'?" Una slashed her sword against his face, cutting out one of his eyes. "You murdered half of all life, innocent people! Loved ones!"
"Where are the stones?" Natasha asked again.
"Gone," Thanos answered, shocking them all. "Reduced to atoms,"
"You used them two days ago!" Bruce reminded.
"I used the stones to destroy the stone. It nearly killed me," the mass murderer wheezed. "But the work is done. It always will be,"
"No!" Colin shook his head, refusing to accept defeat. "Not as long as we draw breath to undo what you did to our families, our friends!"
"Tell us how to bring the stones back," Tina threatened again.
"You can't," Thanos chuckled callously. "It is done. They will never be used again. I am inevitable".
Tears were brought to everyone's faces. "We have to tear this place apart. He has to be lying," Rhodey couldn't accept his words.
There was silence. "My father is many things," said Nebula softly. "But a liar is not one of them,"
"Thank you, daughter," Thanos said to her. "Perhaps I treated you too harshly,"
Tina's gun dropped to the floor; she fell to her knees, crying. She had lost nearly all of her loved ones again. She would never see Mantis again. Rocket tearful as well embraced her, heartbroken he would never see Meredith again. Orlins purred. The Avengers cast pitiful looks at her. Una sniffled into her palm. How was she going to tell Jesse that they would never be able to bring Thora back?
Thanos didn't care at all that they were grieving. "I'm sorry for your pain. But sometimes, sacrifices must be made for the greater good,"
Colin roared and…. Blast!
Jesse sat silently on his bed. Valkyrie appeared at his open door but he wouldn't turn to her. "Why do you pity him?"
Valkyrie knew exactly what he was talking about. "The only one who is to blame for our losses is Thanos and him alone,"
"He wouldn't have won if it wasn't for him,"
"What if it was Thora you lost?"
"Don't mention her. I never got to propose to her, to have a life with her,"
"The stones will be brought to us and you will get that chance,"
The pair suddenly felt the house shaking like there was a gentle earthquake. But when they looked outside they saw the ship landing. They had returned.
Peter walked out of his spare room and saw them. He couldn't believe they were back so soon. Valkyrie and Jesse came walking into the hallway. When his eyes met Jesse, they remained full of anger. "Jesse…" he tried to speak up.
"Don't you dare speak to me," he shoved past him.
"I'm sorry you lost…"
Jesse spun around and brought this face to his. "Don't you dare say her name. You took her from me,". In his eyes, Peter saw a burning rage.
"Jesse…" Valkyrie tried to calm him down. "They're back and we're gonna bring everyone back. And it'll all be done,"
"At least you can get back the woman you love back," said Peter emotionally. "I'll never see the woman I love ever again. I'll never be able to have a life with her, which is nothing compared to the life you can still have,". He walked past them not wanting to shed any more tears in front of them.
Valkyrie glared at Jesse. "What?!" he snapped.
"You shouldn't be angry at him when you know you'd do the same thing too,". She followed after Peter, and then Jesse chose to follow them too. But he was not going to stand anywhere near Peter.
The three stood outside but when the ship door opened and the passenger came marching down the stairs, instead of determination they saw heartbreak.
"What happened?" Valkyrie asked.
Colin and Wendy descended slowly to the earth, landing beside the defeated heroes. Peter looked out for his twin, Rocket, and Orlins. His heart clenched seeing them so heartbroken too.
"Where at the stones?" demanded Jesse. All he received from Una was a hung head. "Una?"
"They're gone," mumbled Steve, his voice broken. "Thanos destroyed them,"
Peter shook his head. "No. No. That can't be true. Where is he? Where is Thanos?"
"Ask him," spat Steve to Colin.
"You killed him?" Valkyrie questioned him. "How could you? What good did it do?"
"Nothing," he lamented. He raised his head darkly at Peter. "You did this,"
"Colin…" Natasha tried to ease him.
"Because of you, half of all life is gone forever. We'll never see our families again. Your stupidity has cost us everything!" his fist pointed up and…
"Ahh!" Peter felt the blast of energy against his ear, severely singeing it. Una rushed to him and Valkyrie saved him from falling.
"Enough of this!" Natasha grabbed his wrist. "It won't change anything,"
"No! But it doesn't the fact that he's responsible for everyone we've lost!" Tina pointed at her twin again who remained crushed by her rejection.
"Please," Peter begged coming to her, Rocket and Orlins who looked unforgivably at him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I tried to fix my mistake back on Titan. But we can fix this. We can find another way. We can…"
"Rocket! Don't!" Nebula shouted.
Rocket sprang face. Slash!
"Ahh!" Peter stumbled back again, pressing his hand over the left side of his lips and face, blood poured between his fingers.
"What have you done?" breathed Una.
Rocket, standing straight, was shaking by what he had done. He eyed the blood on his claws, gasping softly to what he had just done. Tina was unmoved at all. And so was Orlins. Peter was hurt that he had been hurt. Punished with wounds twice for accidentally allowing Thanos to achieve his goal supposedly forever.
Rocket's self-horror faded away and he scrunched his fingers, staring darkly at Peter again. "Get out," he ordered.
"Please," Peter begged.
"Just go!" ordered Tina with heated hatred. "You've ruined everything! We're never gonna see our loved ones again! Because of you!"
"Guys…" Una tried to calm them.
"Don't 'guys' us. You all know he's responsible for all of this happening and you're still holding pity for him," Rocket snapped, outraged at the Avengers for their sympathy. "Now get out of here!" he roared at Peter.
Everything was silent once again. Peter felt all eyes were laid on him. "I'm sorry," he said abjectly. "For everything,". He turned and walked away with his wounds that he felt he deserved as punishment. The Guardians turned their backs on him and walked off to mourn for their losses. Colin, with no regret for blasting at him, and Wendy rocketed into the sky. Then Jesse stormed off too. Only the Avengers looked out to him with sympathy.
It was night-time. The Guardians had been inside the compound all day, mourning for their losses. The Avengers too. Peter however had remained outside at all times, unable to face anyone. He had allowed Valkyrie and Una to tend to his wounds but he wouldn't say a word to them. He was touched by the women's unconditional kindness to them. But he felt he didn't deserve it one bit.
He decided he had, had enough. He needed to get away from everything, his guilt, his loved ones who wanted nothing to do with him anymore, and his home planet. But nothing was more painful than the agony of rejection from his own twin. He walked towards a prepared ship. The women awaited him.
"You sure you don't us to come?" Una asked.
"It's better if I just go alone," he requested. "I'll never forget the kindness you both have shown me. Even though I didn't deserve it. Before I go, please will you do me something?"
"Anything," Valkyrie answered.
"Please watch over them," though heartbroken by their rejection, he wanted them to be safe and sound. Even if they didn't care about him, anymore he still cared about them to an extent. Though angered they were at the Guardians for their unfair blame on him, they simply nodded and after bobbing their hands, Peter walked on board the ship and the door closed.
The Avengers inside their compound heard the engines and raised their heads to see the ship ascending into space. Una and Valkyrie came inside. "No matter how down we feel…" Una said. "We must try and be strong. Strange said so himself there was only one path to success. And it will come. We just have to wait and hope,"
Valkyrie made her way to where Tina, Rocket, and Orlins had been alone. "He's gone. In case you three are wondering," they didn't care at all. "He requested that me and Una watch out for you three. Always remember that," she left them behind but still they remained unmoved.
Peter flew through space, heartbroken, rejected, and scarred. He didn't know what to do. His first thoughts were of going to Knowwhere, repairing some damage, or going to the nearest pub in the galaxy and drinking to drown his sorrows. But that would do no good at all.
"What do I do, Gamora?" he asked himself. "What do I do?". Hours passed and he hadn't moved a muscle from his seat. He couldn't do anything at all. He was five-hundred clicks away from Earth but still, the guilt remained inside him like a plague. The ship needed rest and he stopped it. He walked numbly into the quarters and just sat down, starting to drink. He walked over to a picture of the entire Guardian family that was now half-gone, reduced to ashes. He pulled it off and threw it away in the bin.
Just then there was a loud siren call. He ran up to the windshield and to his horror, a giant red spaceship that looked like an upturned cube towered over him.
Oh dear. So Thanos has destroyed the stones and nothing can be undone. I hope you all enjoyed reading it. About Peter getting injuries from Rocket and Colin, it's not because I hate him at all. I just wanted to make everything more tense between everything. And now a giant red spaceship is towering over him. I think you can all guess who that is. Dear Dredrekly490X. thank you very much for your review. I will definitely use your oc idea. As for Peter, in relation to the events of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and two oc character ideas, another writer sent over in the summer, I am going to do Peter quite differently in this story if you don't mind. But thank you for the idea. I will still use the oc idea and if you have any more. Feel free to send them over. See you all later.
