2brown-eyes rocks!
No song so…
Breathe Again—Tony Braxton
The next morning, after seeing Esme and Bree off as they head to Sea-Tac, I make my way to the hospital. We didn't make a plan or anything, but now that Edward no longer has a girlfriend, I don't want to waste another second.
I pull into the space behind his Trans Am and kill the engine. It's just after eleven-thirty in the morning, and his lunch is sometime around now, so I head inside.
Mrs. Greene is at her desk, and her eyes narrow the tiniest bit when she recognizes me. "Hey, Mrs. Greene," I say, not caring in the least what she thinks. I'm too happy. "Do you know where Edward is?"
"Not this time," she says, tapping some keys on her computer. "But I can have him paged for you."
"Yes, please." I can't help but feel excitement stir. "Can you have him paged to the cafeteria?"
She smiles, nodding.
I pick up the pace then, wanting to make sure I have time to grab him some food before he arrives. As I enter, the intercom buzzes to life, paging Edward Cullen. And it's like the clouds open up and allow the sun to pass through when he stands from a table near the back, looking adorably cute as he searches the room with a confused expression.
It doesn't last long, though, because as soon as he spots me, his face lights up with love and happiness. I nearly cry right there in front of all the nosy nurses who're pretending not to stare as he opens his arms and I walk straight into them.
"What are you doing here?" he asks quietly, and I think I feel his lips ghost my forehead.
I pull back, my eyes drinking in his pretty face. "I had an hour to kill before my shift, so I thought, why not?"
"Lucky for you…" He checks his nonexistent watch. "I have some time."
"Damn right, lucky me." I beam at him as he pulls out a chair for me.
"You want me to get you…" He motions to the cashier.
"Nope." I nab a Dorito from his bag. "I just left your house. You know Esme forced me to eat brunch."
"Ahhh." He settles back into his chair. "Bree get going all right?"
"She did," I say softly. "She seemed better today."
He bobs his head. "I called Fred, a good friend of hers, and asked him to pick her up from the airport."
"That was thoughtful." It warms my heart. She did a bad thing, but it doesn't make her a bad person.
I should know.
"I broke her heart." He sighs. "And a part of me wonders if she was right."
"No," I say, lacing my fingers with his. "I'll never believe that you spent almost a year of your life with someone and then intentionally hurt them."
"I thought I was strong enough," he admits, leaning forward and lowering his voice. "That between Bree and the hospital I wouldn't have time to chase after you." He snorts. "I royally fucked that up."
"Will we ever be able to move past all the stupid shit we've done and be happy again?" I meet his green gaze, a shade no other color holds a candle to. "Because I want that so badly."
"I want it too." His eyes go to our linked fingers, and he smiles. "Goddamn, I've missed you so fucking much, B."
Those little fissures in my heart start to fuse back together. "I missed you too."
"Fuck." He leans back and shoves his hand through his hair, making it stick up everywhere. "I don't want to be sad anymore. I have you back, and I'm ready to fucking celebrate."
I huff a laugh. "We both know there's only one place for that."
He looks at me, smiling wide.
"The rink," we say in unison.
"It's a date." He winks.
My heart pitter-patters in my chest.
Fucking finally.
FUCKING FINALLY!
Now you have to live through, like, 15 chapters of lovey-dovey, with maybe one teensie real-life chapter.
I started a new fandom Facebook if you want to friend me there, ANDDDDD I posted a teensy, tiny teaser to what I started writing this week. I figure it'll be my Christmas story. You can find me by searching for Fyrebyrd Fics
Many moons ago, when I discovered this fandom, I was fyrebyrd-eighty-nine on FB until they made me change my name. All those years of torture to now allow me to have a Fyrebyrd profile lol.
Anyway… yayyyy for our couple, and I'll load another chapter for tmr. No one is getting emails, apparently, so keep your eyes out :)
