"So they're getting married now?" Alex asked. "There's not going to be anymore arguments about whether or not they're getting married?"
"There won't be anymore arguments about that. There might be some arguments about how soon they'll get married though. More likely there will be arguments about baby names first," Derek said.
"I like Marie."
"Anneliese."
"No, I think Marie is better," Alex said with a smile.
"Now I think you're trying to mess with my head."
"Speaking of head games, Arabella's friend Bobbie called and said she'd like to visit for a few weeks. I told her I'd talk to you about it."
"If she comes to visit, I'll have to lay out a lot of ground rules. First of which would be she can't try to seduce Nick in front of my mother. No, wait... She can't try to seduce him at all."
"I'm sure she'd scandalize your mother and Philip at the same time."
Barbara Rayne came the very next day. "You're already here, Oma?" Arabella asked when Derek led her into Arabella's bedroom.
"I had to come as soon as I could when your father told me about the babies," Barbara said. She looked into the bassinets where the babies were sleeping. "Oh! They're so precious! What are their names?"
"They haven't been named yet," Philip said. He looked afraid the babies would be woken up.
"I take it he's her man?" she asked Derek quietly. "He has the look of a man who's just became a father for the first time."
"He is," Derek whispered to his mother.
One of the babies opened her little eyes, looking up at the faces above her. Barbara picked up the baby. Philip started to approach, but Derek held a hand out.
"She's sleeping," Philip said.
"She woke up," Derek told him. "Don't overreact. When people see babies, they want to hold them."
"I know how to handle newborns," Barbara said. "You didn't think Derek was born fully grown, did you?"
"I thought Derek gave you very strict rules for visiting," Nick said to Arabella's friend Bobbie.
"We're not there yet," she said. "So... are you sure you don't want to see my new tattoo? It's very tasteful."
Nick allowed a tiny smile. "You don't have tattoos in tasteful places."
"You liked the butterfly tattoo when you saw it. I could tell." Her hand touched him. "I can tell you still like it."
He suddenly pulled the car over and pulled her hand away. "Stop it. Derek gave you very clear rules. No flirting. No trying to show me your tattoos. And no touching!"
"He said nothing about the ride over." She leaned closer. "Admit it, he said nothing about the ride."
Nick swallowed hard. "No, he didn't say anything about the ride."
Bobbie touched him again. "You can do whatever you want. Whatever you want..."
Within minutes, they were in a motel room, Nick pushing into her. His phone rang from his jacket pocket. He swore and reached for it.
"Don't bother with it," Bobbie said, pulling him closer.
"If I don't, then Derek will know something's going on." He snagged his jacket and answered his phone. It turned out it was Derek wanting to know what the hold up was. Nick told him a lie about a tire blowing out as Bobbie pressed herself tightly against him. When he hung up the phone and let it fall to the floor, he looked at her. "You don't like letting up, do you?"
"Never."
Derek glanced at the tires on Nick's car later on that day. He frowned.
"Is something wrong?" Alex asked. They'd been taking a walk around the grounds.
"Nick told me when I called him earlier that he'd had to change a tire and that was what was taking him so long to get Bobbie here, but none of the tires have been changed."
"Are we feeling a little paranoid?"
"Bobbie's mother has expressed concerns to me more than once when we've met since Arabella started college with Bobbie. Apparently, Bobbie has had a... promiscuous nature. Her mother told me about some... incidents."
"She must be spreading those concerns on to you."
"Someone needs to be concerned," Derek said. "Apparently, I'm going to need to have a talk with both her and Nick."
"It's cute how concerned you are. Are we going to adopt her?"
"Alex..."
"Aw... You don't want three kids?" she asked.
"Not if one is going to be like her."
