Guardians
At the pole a few minutes after the nightmare left. Everyone was still in the guardian meeting area. The yeti's were still very far off to the side making toys for Christmas, while the elves were causing mischief in the kitchen.
"So how exactly are we gonna find him anyway? We don't even know where he could be since he's a season spirit. And why would Manny even choose a him. He hurts children." Bunny crosses his arms.
"Bunny, Manny chose him for a reason, and he might not be all that bad."
"Very funny North, but I will never trust that trouble maker with anything."
North was about to argue back when Tooth interrupts, "Guys stop fighting we're waisting time just standing here."
The others nod at each other. "So where exactly do you think that kid is? Mate, no one even knows where he lives, not even Mother Nature."
Everyone starts to think.
Sandy raises his hand after remembering something faintly.
"Sandy what do you got?" North looks at his old friend.
Sandy starts flashing signs so quickly not even North can decipher them. After everyone gives him confused looks. Sandy shakes his head hating he can't talk. Sandy goes a little slower this time. Showing Jack touching his dream sand and playing with it in a town. And showing the number 78 right after.
"Sandy where is that?" North asks curious on what he has to say.
Sandy flies up towards the globe towards America. He looks at the states still trying to recall the location. When his eyes land on Pennsylvania he smiles and points and looks at the other guardians.
"Pennsylvania, so that's where you think your saw him. But where in Pennsylvania?" North asked.
Sandy raises his hand in an I don't know motion.
"Well seems we might have to look our selves," Tooth suggested looking at the others.
"Tooth that will take to long even with all four of us. Also that kit is very cautious around others. I learned that the last time I saw him. I still remember the time he froze me in place and ran. So we're gonna have to limit the number of people," Bunny said.
"Sandy didn't you say he interacts with your dream sand?" Sandy gives North a small nod unsure what North is brewing up in his head. Yet Sandy takes a notice he feels odd every time the kid's name is mentioned. Sandy discards the strange feeling. Sandy puts his attention back upon his other guardians.
"IDEA!" North says like a happy child who just found the missing piece to the treasure map.
Everyone looks up at him in confusion. "Why not Sandy send out dream sand around Pennsylvania, and if the boy touches it, Sandy will know. And then we can find him and bring him back here." Everyone looked at him in agreement.
"Who's gonna go with Sandy to help?" Bunny asks with an eyebrow raised.
"You will." North says shocking Bunny. Bunny stops leaning on the beam coming closer to argue.
"Why would you send me? I hate his guts!" Bunny said outraged. Sandy starts to pull out his sand whips.
"Well maybe cause you have the most history with him out all of us." North says with a smile.
Sandy conjures his whips fully and grabs Bunny from behind and put him onto his dream cloud. Bunny struggles yet gives up. Sandy gives Bunny a gleeful smirk.
North waves two yeti's over. "Help them bring boy here." North pulls out an empty sack and says, "Use this, it vil help." The yeti's leave with Sandy and Bunny who of which is still tied up.
Once they leave Tooth gets back to sending orders. North soon leaves to check on the toys. After a little while of doing so. North looks at Man and moon wondering of what this new guardian will be like and how he will help with Pitch.
Sandy / Bunny's POVs
The sky is just now turning dark. The stars start to appear in the night skies. In the woods below a portal opens and soon two yeti's, a man made of sand, and a grumpy tied up Bunny, walk out / dragged out.
"Sandy you can let go of me now," Bunny says with a cold glare. After Sandy lets go, Bunny stands up happily. Sandy rolls his eyes, and creates his dream cloud to start the plan. Slowly they rise up into the sky. Sandy opens his hands wide and within a second golden dust is flowing into the bedrooms of children.
They slowly move through out the state. Sandy feels something is off when they enter a town known as Burgess. Sandy flashes back into a memory of the boy playing through the streets and waving at him after he had noticed him. "That night, that was the first time I had met him. He had been messing with my sand for the past few years, and when I went to find who was doing it I was shocked to see a young winter spirit. We had talked about something here. What was it? Why can't I remember?"
"Sandy!" Sandy comes to just to find Bunny in his face. "Mate, you dazed off for a second."
Sandy looks at his fellow guardian with determination. Sandy signs an arrow pointing to the town. Everyone on the sand cloud knew what Sandy meant with that simple arrow.
Sandy spread out his arms to spread his gift of dreams to the children and also intending to find the new guardian.
Later...
The dream sand didn't get any reaction making Sandy worried. After the sand had completely returned to him. His concern showed on his face. "Let me guess you didn't find im, ay mate. We'll get the bugger soon don't worry." Bunny said while still keeping his title as the guardian of hope.
Sandy gave him a smile and then a elbow to the Bunny's ribs. Bunny chuckled lowly still in a bit of pain. The sound of hoofs trampling the ground caught everyone's attention. There attention is sent to the woods right next to Burgess.
Sandy gives Bunny and the yeti's a look before descending to the ground slowly. They walk with weapons in there hands on the path into the woods to investigate. The woods is still dark even with Sandy's glow and the moon beams from Manny. They happen upon a clearing with a frozen lake in the middle.
Sandy puts away his whips after recalling his memories of him and Jack Frost talking here way after there first meeting. Bunny and the yeti's follow Sandman toward the pond after seeing Sandy calm and put his whips away. They follow suit and let there guards down just a bit.
Bunny looks towards the pond and the surrounding woods, "Sandy what is this place? Have you been here before?" Sandy nods sadly.
Images of Jack and him appear over his head. "Wait you know Frost!?" Sandy nods sadly again. This time Bunny notices the sadness in his expression. "Sandy what are you not telling me." Bunny and Sandy are now face to face.
Sandy looks towards the ground shame clouding his eyes after remembering everything about him and the boy. Bunny's concern grows.
(Flashback Sandy's POV)
Distant memory: 1953
"Hello my name if Jack Frost what's yours?" The boy holds out a hand to the little man on his cloud of sand. The boy seemed to be floating on the wind. It was unheard of for spirits to ride the wind. They were normally thrown off.
It wasn't just that that caught Sandy's eye. The boys hair was as white as snow, and he was as pale as a ghost. Sandy takes the boy's hand and signs his name, not expecting for him to understand it, yet he is shocked. "Sandy is your name, well that makes sense, since you are the sandman," Jack chuckles with a small smile.
The boy tilts his head at Sandy. "Why are you so shocked? Is it something I said?" Sandy shakes his head no. "It's just I am surprised that you can understand my signs," he shows with his dream sand.
"Oh, so that's the reason." Jack soon changes the subject. "Anyway, I see your a little busy at the moment I'll leave if you want me too." Sandy quickly tells him it's fine and pats his dream cloud inviting him to sit down.
After that I believe I had been spreading dreams with the kid for a few times after I first invited him. He seemed so happy every time he saw me. I also liked it since the other guardians were always busy. We started talking a lot and it helped lots since Sandy didn't have to deal with correcting him. Yet each time we talked to each other it felt like the boy was hiding something. Not anything evil or bad, just something painful. I always hated it when I found bruises on him that I knew he couldn't cause himself, but every time I brought it up he would change the subject. I let it go since I knew it bothered him in a way, but that didn't help me from worrying.
A few years later 1968; They have hung out 78 times over the past few years because of there duties.
It was finally dawn making Sandy have to leave. When he went to tell the spirit he had to go. He finds him fast asleep "Where does he live? I don't want to wake the boy up."
Sandy gives Jack just a little tap, and he is hit in the face. Jack immediately shouts, "Sorry, it's a reflex! Are you okay!?" Jack knelt down to be face to face with Sandy. He gives him a reassuring smile and thumbs up. Jack does a small sigh, " Sorry for hitting you." Jack looks down to his side in shame. "When you've lived alone and unseen for a few decades you learn to be cautious around others." Jack's voice goes to a near whisper, "Especially around -- --."
Sandy tilts his head at his quiet tone not fully able to hear what he said. Yet to be honest Sandy didn't really feel it because he was made out of sand but he could tell it had some power behind it causing some extent of concern and confusion. He takes his mind off the topic still wanting to know where Jack lives so he can take him home instead of him flying.
"Where do you live?" Sandy signs to Jack which separates him from his thoughts. "Huh, oh I live near Burgess. At the frozen pond in the woods," Jack says hesitantly at Sandy's question.
At Jack's response Sandy sets off with Jack to the pond of Burgess. When they had arrived it was near 5 a.m. We started to talk about things that made each other laugh. It was until a few minutes later something seemed to change in Jack's mood.
He started to shake slightly after looking in the direction of the forest brush. "Sandy you should probably go now since you have other places to be on the other side of the globe." Jack said with a voice crack and a pleading like tone.
Sandy waved his hand innocently not noticing the quiver in Jack's words, and he flies off into the sky to the other side of the globe.
The Next Day...
Passing by Burgess. Sandy hears the wind behind him. Sandy looks and finds Jack there like he did every time we met up, but it was... different.
Jack keeps his eyes away from Sandy to not see his expression. "Sandy I'm sorry to say this, but we can't see each other anymore... Something's come up and." Jack stutters, "I won't be able to see you.
Sandy's heart felt heavy from those words. Jack felt like a son and he's has to go away. "Why, Why can't we see each other or even hangout.? What's going on?" Jack looks to the side tears starting to leak from his eyes.
"I'm sorry. I can't explain it right now, but all I can say is you were the most real friend I have ever had. I know this hurts. It hurts I have to do this too. But.. this is goodbye. Don't forget me Sandy you are my best friend and I don't know when we might meet again. Just please don't forget me like everyone else." Jack sends a sad wave to Sandman.
Flashback ends
Sandy is now looking Bunny in the eyes while in tears."How could I have forgotten him after all these years. We were great friends, but after that day he told me he couldn't see me anymore it now sounds as if he had to do it against his will. And the sadness in his voice was so strong. Why didn't I notice sooner his fear the day before. It had taken such a blow to my heart I pushed it down to the point I forgot him. He was like a son to me, yet even as a guardian I failed to notice fear and torment. I promised not to forget him but I did it anyway." Sandy signs with more tears going down his face.
"Sandy, calm down. You remember him now right. you can fix that mistake. All we have to do is find him and you can make it up to him by showing him you remember the kit."
Sandy takes a breather to help calm himself down. Sandy signs with his sand, "Thank you."
"Well well well, I would have never thought I would see the Sandman crying over such a little thing such as a winter spirit." A voice from a dark figure in the brush of the the forest. His evil laugh echoes throughout the clearing.
The yeti's go into a protective stances, Bunny gets up off the snow bank and grabs his boomerangs, and Sandy conjured his whips while struggling to hold himself together.
What they faced wasn't what they expected. A hoard of shadows that took the appearance of horses with Pitch black on top of one. The horses had a strange menacing aura to them that felt a little similar to Pitch's power from what he had in dark ages. There eyes were golden like Sandy's dream sand, yet the rest of them were made of sand that was of a charcoal black color.
"I would like to stay in chat, but I have some business to attend to." Pitch pauses and his attention goes to Sandy. "Oh and Sandy your little friend. I forget his name, but let's just say he's quite a fighter."
This send chills down everyone's spines after contemplating what Pitch had just said. Fear starts to creep in to all of them as they finally realize what they had just heard was indeed what it meant.
Sandy's anger boils up finally to a point he can't take it. Bunny puts a hand on his shoulder before he can take even a step. Bunny says, "What did you do?"
Pitch gives them a chuckle. "I thought you hated Frosty, so why you so worried about him now. Oh wait I know, because he's your newest guardian and you four were sent out to find the teen. Am I correct?"
Bunny stammers through his words, "How did you?"
"How did I know?" Pitch repeats Bunny's words. "I have my ways. But all I can say is since he was appointed a guardian he would be in my way. So might as well get it over with and get rid of the problem myself." Pitch smirks at Sandy.
"Since he is such as dear friend to you. I won't kill him, but you both know me I don't give mercy. You both know where that will lead him."
Sandy can't take enough and attacks Pitch and the strange horses. Before the whips can reach him Pitch disappears into the shadows of the earth.
"Agh, bloody hell. We need to get back to the Pole." One of the yeti's pulls out a snow globe and puts it into Bunny's paw. Bunny grips the globe and whispers, "North Pole." They all follow into the swirling cortex. Unknown to them what has happened to Jack Frost.
