So after that night, I and Jason are closer . Not like romantic way but still very close like best friends. However I am still trying to keep a distance because I don't want other initiates to get jealous because of our relationship. I got attacked because they were jealous of my relationship with Mark
I have long time not sitting with Linda and Elizabeth for coffee so we decide to sit down at night in the coffee store which opened 24hours .
Alexander and Jessica often were there before jessica got the babies but now they sleep quiet early because of the baby. We sit by the window
Outside is pretty dark but we still can see that erudite's light is up all night which is against the rule of the law in the city. I wander what are they doing in there? Inventing something that can kill divergent?
When I think about that, I shiver . David promised me that he will protect Jason if I leave , then I don't need to worry at least for him.
"What are you thinking?" Linda taps my table
"I am thinking what erudite are doing with light up all night?" I scowl
"They must be afraid of dark maybe but doing nothing." Linda sips her coffee. "I was scared of dark when I was still in erudite ."
I hear footstep coming from behind me . Edward and Jennifer come into the store
"Are they dating?" Elizabeth narrows her eyes. "Eddie is dating Jennifer ?"
"Yeah he told me that he likes her so yeah." I giggle. "Edward and Jennifer , sit here ."
"No unless you can pay for us ." Edward makes a ghost face
I roll my eyes . I know that he will say it. I sigh
"Okay come and I will pay for this ." I nod at him
"Thank you Delia .you are the best." Edward and Jennifer jump into the seat next to me . "What are you guys doing so late at night in the coffee shop."
"Did I tell you not to mess up with my initiate?" I say. "Before the training finished."
Edward bites his lips. I know that he is nervous
"Edward is a good boy Delia . Don't need to be so mocking ." Jennifer shakes her head
"You like him?" Elizabeth gives her a wink.
"Don't ask me this . I haven't decide yet" Jennifer says
Alexander comes in with two men . Peter and Jack are two of his lieutenant .
"Hey Delia ." Peter smiles at me . "Here for coffee. Oh a girl's talk."
"We shouldn't interrupt." Jack laughs "what is initiate doing here?"
"Jennifer is my friend so I invited her Jack. Just go ." I am annoyed
Jack and Peter jerk their head back and walk with Alexander . They finished getting their coffee
"Delia comes to have a meeting with us . You can bring your coffee with you." Alexander smiles at me . "I am sorry to distract the reunion."
"Okay I am coming sir ." I nod at him
I stand up and wave good bye to Elizabeth and Linda . Edward and Jennifer are talking so closed that they don't realize that I am leaving. I follow Alexander out of the store .
We walk to the third floor to the big meeting room. We sit down with the rest of the leader . My grandma 's place is empty.
"Jessica is sleeping so Delia can you please take the note for her?" Alexander eyeing me
"Sure sir , I will do it." I open the small tablet in front of me
Jessica was doing this all the way for Alexander when she was not pregnant yet . Now I will have to do the job. I start typing .
The topic , the date and the people who attended the meetings
"So the first one is Mike wants us to work with him to kill divergent. And my answer is no. However if we don't work with him, then he will stop giving us the technology and also working with the factionless." Alexander is having headache
"So you want to work with him? We don't agree with that. Our purpose is to guard the city not to destroy it because someone who can resist the serum." Marcel shouts . "I have friend who are in the erudite who can provide us with the serum secretly so we don't need to work with them publicly and we have more people than factionless."
Marcel is the oldest leader among us beside Alexander . Alexander only became leader for two years but marcel was here for more than five years . Marcel is very reputations
"I agree with marcel." I raise my hand. "If we listen to them that makes us all coward ."
"Okay, we will go on our own way." Alexander snaps his fingers . "Your grandma's position is empty now and I will like to ask you to replace her. I replaced my dad's and you should do that for your grandma ."
I will be a leader? I want Jason walker to be the leader
"Can we discuss privately? I have some concerns." I say carefully.
"Fine ." Alexander says. "You guys can go now and Delia will stay."
Until everyone leave, I sit there alone with Alexander
"I want to give this position to Jason." I say
"Why? Why do you care about him so much." Alexander is wandering
"I feel that something is coming Alexander . Please listen, I may not see the day when he reaches to a greater goal but putting him into the leadership can secure his life . Mike will never suspect anyone who are in leadership." I say seriously.
Alexander drinks his coffee . He stops when he heard me said that I may not be there .
"What is happening?" Alexander stand up. "Delia , I will never let anything happen to you. That is what I promised to mark."
"Then you have to promise me to give the leadership to Jason and protects him okay? I need him to be safe ."I shake my head . "If this is always the intention for mark to protect me , then it will be my intention to protect Jason as well." I say sternly
Alexander sighs and gives in. He agrees to give the leadership to Jason but I have to talk to him. I decide to talk to him tomorrow .
The second day comes very quickly and it is time to start the second stage training. The second stage training is the most dangerous time for Jason because that will reveal his divergence to me and to everyone .
I walk into the glass building with muffin in my hand . I open the light. Joshua is flipping through the stack of paper .
"I am looking for the wipe ." Joshua sighs. "Why I can't find any of them."
"I can give some to you." I take out from my pocket. "You just need to keep your things neat."
I roll my eyes . Now everyone are here including dauntless born. Everyone are gathering in a small space
"Today we will have no actual training just announcing the stage two is starting." I stop to drink water . "Well done for those of you who stay after stage one and now we will start stage two."
"What is stage two actually about?" Jennifer frowns at me .
"It is about your emotional training. On the midst of the dangerous situation, it is important to calm yourself down to make the best choice ." I smile at her . "Tomorrow you will go through one of our fears which will not be Joshua's of course ."
Everyone look so eager . I clap my hand to dismissed them
"Jason walker comes to my office now ." I say coldly
I walk out of the room and Jason follows me . I walk toward the third floor and he walks behind me . Until we get into my office , I close the door behind us
"Sit." I sit in front of the table .
He sits opposite of me . He taps his fingers on the table
"Nervous about tomorrow?" I narrow my eyes
"Yeah kind of . I don't know what to expect." He nods at me
"Don't need to be nervous . However just try to stay in the simulation a little bit longer okay?"
He says nothing. I remembered that I am trying to recruit him
"My grandma just dead and you know it ." I try to sound casual. "We need new leader."
"You are the best choice they have ." He says right away.
"However I refused . I want you to be the leader and I still be instructor and ambassador ." I shake my head
He is staring at me . He is shocked and surprised
"Why? You are way better than me ."
"Jason, I did promise that i will never leave you alone but I know that something is coming toward me . Before that thing gets to me , I will put you in the leadership and you will be safe ." I clinch my fist
"Why you always only think about me Delia! You love me or something! You never say anything like that! Delia don't fool yourself please . I love you okay? I don't want you to protect me but I want to protect you." Jason stands up. "I am not going to take it and I will never take it."
He screams at me and his eyes are red and puffy
"Jason , please listens to me . I want to keep you safe just like my instructor wants to keep me safe ." I grab his arms . "Please considered it okay?"
"Delia, why! Why you never leave my heart since the first time I saw you in the choosing ceremony. You were so kind and gentle . You shouldn't be dauntless at that point. You should be abnegation or amity."
Jason touches my hair . He will say yes to my offer
"I will do it . Just for you Delia . If you leave me , then I will give up on myself."
"Jason please don't . I want you to be happy. Before that thing gets me , I may not be able to see you become better ." I grab his hand
"Let that thing come and I will see what is that thing you referring to and I will take them away." Jason gritted his teeth. "Nothing and no one will take you away from me ."
