There is a certain strength of spirit shared by the tree which grows tall, no matter how cold the winters, and the master who chops it down and burns it to make charcoal. Sometimes, that spirit burns too powerfully to remain in one place, and instead of home heating or a power-up, a new pokemon is born. Charcadet are remarkably strong-willed pokemon, powered by the temperatures of a kiln that became a helmet and an indomitable will to survive – even to thrive – in whatever situations come their way.

As unevolved pokemon, Charcadet are vulnerable in battles, but they are also in the unique position of being able to forge their own armor. Charcadet who have lost battles can be found placing sheets of metal inside their helmet, slowly shaping them with their glovelike hands until they have a suit which covers their body. The trials they go through, and their moods when forging it, determine how these pokemon evolve.

Humans often desired armor of their own, for Paldean wars were probably even more dangerous than pokemon battles, but convincing a Charcadet to make it for them was if anything an even more difficult task for the human than the Charcadet. Ceruledge and Armarogue's heads have closed up, leaving nowhere to forge them, and Charcadet are far more interested in their own safety than in that of their trainer, let alone of a random stranger. Furthermore, Charcadet are the height of a human child, not that of an adult man, who require significantly larger suits of armor.

It is clear from historical records that a few armorers did indeed convince Charcadet to work for them (always indoors, often deep within a very secure fortress), but the premiums paid for Charcadet armor spoke to the immense difficulty of this task.
