The Bogeyman
In Amity Park, while Danny has taken some time off, his friends had their own idea of down time.
At the Skulk & Lurk, Sam was getting new reading material, making her purchase as Tucker leaned on the wall, bored out of his mind.
"Can we please visit the Pear store now?" Tucker asks.
"Ugh… fine, but I'm staying out of how sterilized and bright it is." Sam complained.
"You made me go inside this place, surely you can stand to do the same for me." Tucker states.
"At least this place has personality..." Sam said.
"The same kind of personality I see every day in you…" Tucker bemoaned.
"I don't want to, but I might be persuaded to give it a shot... in exchange for a tofu soy melt..." She said with arms crossed.
"Fine, but only because we can put it on Danny's tab." Tucker said.
"Speaking of Danny… how do you think he is?" Sam questioned.
"Maybe he's meeting a bunch of girls one by one and they all fall for him one by one?"Tucker said jokingly while Sam frowned. "At least 30… but at least 3 he won't like."
"Oh please, that will happen the day I agree to go on one of my parents' frivolous, overpriced trips to whatever stupid place I don't even want to visit..." Sam said, arms crossed.
"Joking aside, I'm sure he's living it up in some cheesy and outdated paradise for people from the 80's or something." Tucker reasoned.
"Yeah… but I'd consider a place that dated to be more of a nightmare than a paradise." Sam admits.
The two left, thinking that Danny's idea of a day off must be a bore.
Danny managed to grab the hammer in time. He then turned to face the Bogeyman.
"Back off, Bogeyman!" Danny said in warning.
The bogeyman didn't respond, it just approached him.
In response, Danny threw the hammer, it flew past its owner, who watched it go in that direction.
Danny then swung his leg with plenty of force behind it, knocking the Bogeyman back. A sickening crunch made Danny gasp in horror as he saw what became of the masked figure.
His head had bent backwards in an almost inhuman way.
"Oh no…" Danny went before he saw the unthinkable. "What…?"
The Bogeyman grabbed his own head, managing to readjust it so that it remained safely on its intended place. It then picked the hammer back up as if nothing happened.
Taking a step back, all Danny could do was stare in disbelief. He has never seen anything do that unless it were something like a ghost. However, this entity was no ghost, for he did not sense it and it fought in a more grounded manner.
"What… What are you?" Danny asks.
The Bogeyman did not answer, it did not seem capable of answering. Instead, it walked towards him with intent to crush him with its blunt weapon.
Danny fired a ghost ray at the stomach, meant to knock it down. However, all it did was make it slide back.
The Bogeyman paused a moment before continuing its path.
''Okay...the strong, silent type, huh?" Danny snarked as he kept his guard up.
A swing came down and Danny caught it. However, he could feel a tremendous amount of force in that swing, which almost made his knees buckle under the weight.
Danny found himself struggling to stay up, keeping the weapon from hurting him.
"What the heck even are you? You're not a ghost and you're obviously not human!" Danny shouted.
He still received no response.
The Bogeyman stared at Danny in an almost hateful manner despite the lack of visible facial expressions.
"... not very friendly, got it." Danny said, figuring that's what it wanted to say.
He soon managed to push the hammer up and get away as the Bogeyman charged at him.
Danny barely managed to avoid another swing, actually surprised by how fast this being was.
Danny did his best to make sure to keep his eye on the hammer as he made sure to avoid the blunt weapon.
Who is this guy? Why didn't I see a face? Danny thought as he tried to dodge his enemy and avoid the hammer.
Meanwhile, in Amity Park.
Jack was doing needlepoint in the living room while Maddie was fiddling with their latest weapon.
However, the mother noticed something that caught her eye. It was a brochure on Silent Hill and she raised a brow at it. She hadn't seen it before..
"Jack, what is this?" Maddie asked as she showed him the brochure.
Her husband stopped for a moment to look at it and read the content to himself.
"Silent Hill, huh?" He read, the name was definitely ringing a bell to him. "Huh? I think I heard of this place once. A lot of weird things seem to happen here but no one ever seems to say just what exactly is there..." Jack said, fascinated by the idea.
"I think I did hear about that place, something about a cult and something regarding ancient Native American ground..." Maddie said.
"Why haven't we ever gone there to investigate that place? This place smells like a possible haunted town to me." Jack said, eager to find some ghosts to tear apart molecule by molecule.
"Jack, calm down. I sincerely doubt that this place is even remotely ghostly. Most of it sounds like people who were under influence..." Maddie said.
"But Maddie, there might be a ghost there and I haven't had a good butt-kicking since that ghost who has a weird thing for boxes tried to raid our shed!" Jack whined.
"No Jack, It's on the other side of the country. Besides, I don't want this to turn into another nursing home fiasco..." Maddie reminded him, striking a nerve with her husband.
"Those charges were dropped and it's not my fault that the old lady looked like a ghost." Jack said defensively.
Maddie rolled her eyes and sighed.
"They only dropped the charges after we paid for the damages you caused and we still got banned from that place for life. Even if we need a nursing home, we'll be kicked out..." She reminded him.
"Not like we need one." Jack muttered bitterly.
"My point still remains. This Silent hill is just a "ghost town", as in that there is nothing there, not the haunted kind. So, there is no point in us even going there. Besides, we don't have the time to go cross country..." Maddie said seriously.
Her husband pouted before going back to needle point, wishing he could go.
I wonder how Danny is doing. He said he was taking some time off for himself. Maddie thought as she looked out the window since it began to rain.
She had no way of knowing that her son was in danger.
"How's this?!" Danny shouted as he swung his ax-kick downward.
He struck the Bogeyman in the head, making the figure stammer slightly before grabbing his leg and slamming him into the ground.
Seeing the hammer raised upward, Danny fired from his eyes blue beams that froze the blunt part of the weapon.
Due to being heavier, the hammer fell out of the Bogeyman's grip. With that, Danny kicked the tall figure with enough force to send it backward.
The Bogeyman managed to stop sliding before looking to its weapon.
"Oh, what's wrong?!" Danny asks as he picks up the hammer. "Can't fight without this?!"
After that, he smashed the stem of the hammer, rendering it unusable.
The Bogeyman just remained still, staring at the destroyed weapon, almost as if it had parted with something important.
Then, it looked away, towards the entrance to the building.
"What are you doing?" Danny asks, seeing the Bogeyman ignore him.
As Danny hovered closer, he heard it.
The sound of something big and metal, scraping the ground. He looked around, trying to see where it came from.
"What the heck?" He asks.
That's when he saw it as a silhouette at the doorway. It was difficult to see due to the reddish tint of this world, but Danny soon realized what it looked like.
It was the shape of what he thought was a cosplayer, only now he got a good look. The figure was barefoot, wearing some kind of gown without sleeves and white gloves. It carried a large sword that looked more like some kind of giant knife. But what made it stand out most was the strange trapezoid-like helmet it wore, looking very uncomfortable and out of place in a way that did not look at all comical. He also noticed it was stained with something on the clothes, the knife and the helmet. It was a dark red and it didn't take long to realize what it was.
"Uh… hi?" Danny asks.
He received no response.
The figure just charged at him, intending to attack.
"Hey, wait a second!" Danny said as he barely managed to dodge him, but it seems he hadn't been its target.
The red triangle helmeted figure used its weapon, stabbing the Bogeyman in the torso. Danny cringed, looking away. However, to his surprise when he chose to look, the Bogeyman did not seem remotely upset. Instead, it nodded as the blade was removed.
The Bogeyman then somehow disappeared, dissolving as though it were turning to dust and the wind blowing it away.
The remaining entity then turned its attention to Danny, aiming its blade at him.
"Uh… I don't want to get impaled…" Danny went.
The figure did not act as if it heard him, instead walking towards him, dragging its weapon.
Danny hovered back several feet, trying to keep distance.
''Uh...Dude? Hello?" Danny tried but the figure charged at him with intent to harm him. "Okay… I don't know what you are… but take this!" Danny said before flying in and swinging his fist.
However, to his horror, upon impact, it did nothing. The entity did not react as if it was hurt. If anything, it seemed unimpressed.
The figure swung its giant blade, causing Danny to split into two before it could bisect him.
Both Phantoms returned to being one as he gasped for air.
The figure once again used its weapon, only for Danny to duck before using an uppercut.
He felt a hard metal surface on the underside, making it clear this helmet is covering more than expected.
The heavy figure was up in the air slightly before landing on its feet, holding the giant knife like a two-handed sword.
"How can you see or breathe in that thing?" Danny asks.
The figure ignored him as it tried to slash at him, causing him to ascend to avoid the weapon.
I don't think this thing is even human. He thought before deciding to fight back more.
Descending quickly, Danny pushed the odd helmet of the entity into the ground, trying to put it in an uncomfortable position.
"Now that that's done… let's see who's in there." Danny said, grabbing the figure by the heel and trying to pull
However, even with his strength, he found doing so was insanely difficult.
He pulled harder, straining himself. His face was turning red from stress and overwork, something that has never happened before. Usually, he found there was little his strength couldn't handle. However, now he found himself needing more than just that.
"Man… that door stopper helmet thing is really stuck on there…" He said as he felt his arms tire out quickly.
In that instant, the figure pushed itself out of the group, grabbing its weapon to attack.
Noticing in time, Danny let go and moved back.
The figure stood before him, aiming its blade at him.
"You're not human… you're not a ghost… So, what are you?" He asked.
Before the figure could attack again, the sound of a siren was blurring in the distance.
The figure before him was heard breathing heavily before motioning its head in the direction of Danny. It pointed its weapon at him before turning around and walking away.
Danny stood there, confused as possible about what had happened before he noticed something. The environment that turned red slowly became dull once more. The grime and rust disappeared. It was as if the world was morphing around him.
In seconds, the monastery was how it was before his fight with the Bogeyman.
"Uh… what just happened?" He asks as he exits the monastery.
He saw what looked like a hole in the fog, one with a bright light on the other side. Believing it a portal, Danny decided to enter it.
Once he lowered his arm to block the bright light, Danny found himself outside the monastery. However, he noticed that the location no longer looked bleak and uninviting. It was a sunny day, no fog around.
While at a loss, Danny turned his head and saw a woman gasping for air while leaning on the monastery wall. It was the woman he saved.
Deciding he had to see if she was alright, he found a spot to morph and approached her.
As he got closer, he cleared his throat.
"Miss?" She looked up. "Are you alright?" He asks.
"Not exactly… I thought I saw… someone I knew." Elisha responded.
"Who? Brother? A boyfriend?" Danny asks.
"Someone from my past. Now… I gotta get out of here." She said, getting up and running away.
As she ran, Danny was about to follow, only for someone to call out to him.
"I'm afraid you can't help her…" This voice said in a somewhat somber tone.
Turning his head, he saw a familiar face he's met recently. A mailman who had a somewhat disapproving look directed to Danny.
"Mr. Blackwood?" He asked.
"I'm afraid she has to deal with her traumas herself… that's what she was called for." He said.
"Huh?" Danny asks.
"You shouldn't have stepped in, son. That was something she had to handle herself." Blackwood said.
"Stop a guy in a gas mask from crushing her with a cartoonishly big hammer all by herself?" Danny questioned.
"Obviously not to fight him." Blackwood said.
"Oh? And what about the dude with the Buster Sword and that… rusty wedge helmet thing on his head?" Danny asks.
Blackwood just stood there, reacting as if Danny said something he shouldn't have known.
"Oh, you saw him too, huh? Are you that much of a threat to the town?" Blackwood asks with an adjustment of his glasses.
"... come again?" Danny asks.
"Sorry, son." Blackwood said, gesturing to his bag. "I got some mail to deliver." He said before walking away.
Danny was left there, standing alone, processing what he heard.
What kind of town is this? He thought.
10 minutes later
Danny walked down the street, pondering to himself on what he heard.
"That guy knew something… What kind of town is this? And who or what was that guy with the door stopper head?" He asks under his breath.
Before he could ponder further, someone approached him
"Hi again." He heard a little girl's voice behind his back.
Turning his head, he saw the same little girl from the burger restaurant with the rabbit doll.
"Oh… you're… uh…" Danny tried to recall her name.
"Charlene." She answered him.
"Charlene. Hi." Danny said.
"So… you escaped him. You escaped the Bogeyman." She said.
Danny raised an eyebrow. This girl seemed to know a bit more than someone like her should.
"Uh… you mean gas mask guy?" Danny asks.
"You shouldn't have fought him." Charlene said in a flat tone.
"Uh... why... not?" Danny asks, somewhat afraid to hear the answer.
"He wasn't your Bogeyman, he was her Bogeyman." Charlene said.
"What?" Danny asks.
"She saw a bad man who hurt her bad. Not just hurt ouch outside, but ouch in the head. She had to stand up to her bully… but you did it for her. Now, she's still scared of him…" Charlene said with a monotone voice.
"Who told you that?" Danny asks.
"Robbie did." Charlene said, pointing to her stuffed animal. "Now the Bogeyman's friend is mad at you."
"Friend?" Danny asks.
"Charlene?!" A woman's voice called out from afar. That voice belonged to her mother.
As she approached her daughter and held her, Charlene herself seemed to go from somewhat monotone to much more innocent one.
"Mommy?" She asks, seemingly clueless to her own actions.
"Don't scare me like that." She said, hugging her tightly.
"What's wrong?" Charlene asks.
"Uh… Ma'am?" Danny asks, getting the mother's attention.
"Honey, wait here." She said to her daughter before getting up and walking over to speak with Danny. "Sorry… My daughter likes to play with her doll. It's something her father left for her."
"I see he has some… taste in stuffed animals. Should let him know that…" Danny said, wondering if the red markings on the face were part of the doll itself."
"He's… not with us. He's not dead… he just… doesn't live with us." She said before inching closer to Danny to whisper. "He wasn't even my husband…"
"He… wasn't?" Danny asks, realizing Charlene is an illegitimate child.
"No. We weren't really a couple. Let's just… Silent Hill made me realize things about him. I forgave him for something that wasn't truly his fault and… well… one thing led to another when I ran into him again. Our daughter was the result of that last meeting. I named her Charlene because it sounded a lot like the name of his son." She explained.
"His son?" Danny asked, more confused by her words.
"Anyway… sorry to bring that up. Just know that, well, I try to raise my daughter well, but she's a bit of a handful, especially with that doll he bought for her and brought her on her 3rd birthday before he- uh… had to go." She said, unsure of what to say.
"I see." Danny said.
"Well…" Charlene's mother cleared her throat. "Charlene, let's not bother this boy anymore."
"Okay, Mommy." She said, taking her mother's hand and walking away with her.
Weird… Danny thought, relieved on some level to see her go.
"Bye, Bogeyman killer! His friend is looking for you!" Charlene called out to Danny cheerfully.
Though relieved that few people were paying attention, Danny felt a bit uneasy to hear her say that.
"Heh… yeah…" Danny said, unsure how to think of what she said.
However, as Danny was about to turn and go, he noticed something odd.
He saw Charlene's Robbie doll over her shoulder. Though he bobbed with each step, something seemed off. His eyes did not bob with the rest of his body. It was almost as if the doll was staring at him.
Danny blinked his eyes for several seconds before looking away, thinking that was his mind at work.
"I must be tired or something..." He said to himself as he walked away.
As he walked, he had no idea someone was watching from afar.
"That's him…" A young woman's voice went.
Danny kept walking, unaware he had no idea he was being followed.
As he walked, he passed by a woman who searched her purse.
"My wallet!" She called out. "Someone stole my wallet!"
Little did she know, the man who did that was hiding around the corner, snickering to himself as he held her wallet in his hand.
"Now… to find her…" He said as he walked away.
New chapter with help from Flower Princess11.
With the Silent Hill 2 remake and other projects on the way, figured this October was perfect to update this story.
You may have noticed I didn't refer to Pyramid Head by that name. We'll learn why later.
RonaldM40196867: Yes and yes.
Themetavoorhes1996: He's starting to.
Invader Johnny: Pyramid Head might make things worse.
Jebest4781: I'm not going to do that, that would require what knowing Silent Hill even is and that takes the fun out of the mystery because we're NOT supposed to know.
Leonardo: Well, I hinted that the woman was Anne Cunningham from Downpour, with implications the girl's daughter is Murphy Pendleton, so after Downpour at least.
Khy Dragon: Most likely getting worse.
SoundVenom: Actually, Pyramid Head's attack makes it clear the town wants him gone rather than to teach him a lesson.
