Summary: Two murders, one weird, the other not so weird, so what did they have common. DISCLAIMER: I have the privilege of writing about these fabulous characters. But do not have any association with AWM, the show, or the network.
Chapter 7
The next day
At 6am Detective Analdo stepped off of the elevator on to the twelfth precincts fourth floor, the Homicide Division. She was determined to arrive before anyone else…she didn't. There sitting at their desks were three of her team members pounding away on their computers or a phone stuck to their ear. "Do I need to stay here all night," she started to say before being interrupted.
"Wouldn't have done you much good," Rhymer stated.
"Ryan came back after dinner after getting a call that phone and financials came in," Fuller added.
"Yeah, then called us in early. Been going through them since four and believe we've discovered a few things," Espo responded.
"So, where is Ryan now," Analdo asked.
"Asleep in the conference room," everyone said in unison.
"Just made a fresh pot of coffee," stated Rhymer.
"Castle's blend," added Espo
Analdo just shook her head unbelievably, amazed at the dedication these men had to the job. She was proud to be part of them.
5:30am, The Loft
Kate has her naked body snuggled in next to Rick, their legs entangled, her head nestled between his neck and shoulder. "You know you have to stop doing that," she says.
"Doing what," he replies.
"Having those EMBs."
"Can't help it. With the dreams I been having of you I wake up with one, and it's so stiff it actually hurts. The only way I know how to relieve the pain is to have sex with you."
"Yeah, well next time relieve yourself."
"Wouldn't be the same, and you seemed to enjoy it."
"I did but my god, I was having my third orgasm when you finally had your first."
"You know what. I need to write one of these scenes into my next book. I could just see Nikki's reaction."
"Don't you dare," she snapped smacking him on the chest.
"You want to have another go round?" he asked in that sultry voice he has.
"No time," extracting herself from him and rolling off the bed. Need to get ready for work."
"How about shower sex then, there's always time for that," he stated rolling out himself and rushing to catch to that naked buttock she is sashaying in front of him.
7am, The Precinct
Stepping off the elevator with Castle carrying a tray with seven coffees, and Beckett holding a box with donuts and other assorted pastries they headed for the bullpen. "Breakfast people," Castle said setting his tray down on an empty desk, Beckett placing her box down next to it.
"Where's Ryan," Castle asked not seeing the Irishman at his desk."
"Conference room,' Analdo answered. "Asleep," Espo followed with.
"Not anymore," a sleepy voice said entering the room.
"How long you been here?" Beckett asked.
"All night," Rhymer said answering for Ryan who still looked sleepy eyed.
"How about the rest of you?" Beckett then enquired.
"Since 4am," Fuller replied. "Not me," Analdo injected, "I didn't get here until six."
"Why so early," Castle asked.
"Because phone and financials came in, so Ryan called us into help go through them," said Espo.
"And did you find anything," Beckett asked.
"Oh yeah," Rhymer said. "Where do you want us to begin?" Fuller speaking up.
"Let's start with Sullivan's call to Siegal on Monday," Analdo replied. "Go ahead Rhymer, you found it."
"He called her at 7pm, told her had a dispute with Nadine and needed someone to talk to. She told him to come on over."
"Then at 12:30am Siegal made a call to a Ralph Marino asking him to come over that she needed his help."
"So who is this Ralph Marino," Beckett asked?
"A giant," Espo spouted, six feet seven, two hundred and sixty pounds of muscle. He works at the same gym where Siegal is a member."
"He is also a part-time tree trimmer," Fuller stated.
"Synopsis, Castle," Beckett said
"Sullivan arrives at Siegal's place, they talk, maybe have sex, have a few drinks. He gets ready to leave, but she has a plan, so she hits him on the back of the head knocking him out, removes any identification. She calls Marino, who has a thing for her, he comes over, together they take Sullivan to Lincoln Center Plaza where Siegal stabs him in the popliteal artery and Marino hauls the body up on the statue, they then leave."
"Okay, let's move on to Cosetti. Castle."
"That one is a bit easier but highly speculative. Corsetti called Siegal and invited her over, or Siegal called Cosetti and asked to come over, or just showed up. Whatever the case, when Cosetti answered the door Siegal immediately tased her. She then carried Cosetti to the bedroom, stripped her, laid her out on the bed, lashed her popliteal artery, covered her with the sheet, then left and went to the Sapphire Casino."
"That one is going to be hard to prove Castle," Analdo said.
"She's right," Espo responded, "we need to be able to place Siegal at Cosetti's place at the time of death."
"Let's concentrate on Sullivan. Ryan start digging up what else you can find on Ralph Marino, also dig a little deeper into Siegal. Espo, you and Fuller start knocking on doors at Cosetti's apartment. Rhymer, your with me. We're going to have a talk with Mr. Wilson."
"She's almost as good as you Beckett," Castle whispered.
"That's why I hired her," she replied.
Jim's Gym, 1221 W. 121st Street
Analdo stepped up to the counter, showed the girl there her badge an asked where she could find Ralph Marino. "Back in the laundry room," the girl replied, "what's this about?"
"Just some routine questions," Rhymer said as he followed Analdo toward the back of the gym.
"Ralph Wilson," Analdo shouted over the noise while getting a load of the mammoth of a man standing there with his back to her. Rhymer also looked in amazement. Rhymer was not short in stature himself, standing six-two and two hundred and thirty pounds, he worked out daily, but this guy…holy shit.
Wilson turned around to see who it was calling his name, that's when the two detectives got a good look at his face. Analdo was quite surprised to see that he was actually quite handsome. "Yes," he said, the pitch of his voice being higher than what Analdo and Rhymer expected.
"Can we go somewhere where it's a little quieter," Analdo said, still almost shouting.
Wilson pointed to the door, began walking toward it, then needing to duck as he passed through the door itself. Analdo and Rhymer followed him until he entered a door with signage labelling it as a breakroom. There was a couple of people already in there, so Rhymer went over and politely ask them to leave, which they did without argument.
"What's this about miss…"
"I'm sorry Mr. Wilson, I'm Detective Analdo, this is Detective Rhymer. We just want to ask you a few questions."
"Okay," he answered.
Analdo took a photo of Rebecca Siegal from her folder and placed it in front of Wilson. "Do you know her," she asked.
"That's Miss Rebecca, she's member here. She treats me nice."
Analdo could tell by the way Wilson answered her that he wasn't well versed. He wasn't stupid, maybe only had a fourth grade education. Analdo then set a picture of Daniel Sullivan down. "Have you ever seen this man," she then asked. His answer amazed her.
"He is dead ain't he?"
"Yes," Analdo said. Did you know he was dead when you helped put him up on the statue in Lincoln Center?"
"He weren't dead when we got there. He start to struggle when Miss Rebecca and me take him to stature. He not struggle when I pull him up."
"What did you do afterwards, Ralph?" Analdo was keeping her questions friendly, didn't want Wilson think he was in trouble.
"I take Miss Rebecca home, go home myself. Try to sleep. Can't. Don't know what to do. If man dead I need call someone but not want to get Miss Rebecca in trouble. I get in trouble go back to prison. Don't want to go back to prison."
"Don't worry Ralph. I'll make sure you don't go to prison, but I need you to come with me so you can sign a statement describing everything you just told me."
"I leave I lose job."
"You won't lose your job Ralph, I'll make sure of it," Rhymer told him patting Ralph on the shoulder.
The Precinct
"Well done everybody," Beckett said to the group. "You did excellent work in getting the evidence required for a conviction. Give yourselves a pat on the back."
Analdo had got a confession out of Rebecca Siegal for both the murders of Daniel Sullivan and Laura Cosetti. A second search of the Siegal apartment by CSU, which this time included the garbage shute, produced a trash bag where they found the screwdriver with her fingerprints and Sullivans blood. That plus the statement from Ralph Wilson was enough to put Siegal away for life.
The Loft
"Can you believe it Kate. This was a case where Jane killed Jack and Jill just so Jane could have Joan all to herself," Castle stated.
"Nice analogy there Rick. Now you can put it to rest and make love to me."
"Your wish is my command sweetheart."
"Don't call me sweetheart."
