Chapter 5: A heartfelt joke...(That's a pun on the gaping chest wound :p)
The first thing that I heard after Qrow's Harbinger pierced my chest was my sister calling my name in anguish. "Ruby!" she yelled, running over with the rest of my family as fast as possible to my supposedly fatal spot. Fighting as hard as I could to hold in my laughter, I tried my best to look dead. "No, no, no, no, this... this can't be happening if she was out of aura. Why did she pull her sword back at the last minute?" I heard my uncle frantically try to rationalize. I decided then was the time to show I was all right as they crowded me.
"Boo!" I shouted, opening my eyes and sitting up rappidly. My family screamed, shocked and frightened as I returned from my supposed death. Laughing at their faces, Harbinger still impaled in me, I got to my feet and said, "You guys should have seen the look on your faces." Looking less shocked but equally confused the stair at me for a bit, till Qrow spoke, "Ooooh, you cought my blade and pretended I hit you, Ruby you absolute brat, we were worried sensless!" He seemed moderately upset. I held my hand up and said, "Nope," popping the p in the word. I grabbed the hilt with both hands and pulled, leaving a shower of gore to spurt of while it was being removed. My family now more shocked than earlier is now all over me yelling and freaking out.
After a moderate amount of time, I got annoyed with this and said, " Alright, quiet for a sec," moving both hands in front of me in a placating manner. "But Ruby, if we dont get you help, you'll die from that wound!" my sister said worriedly. "Here, if i show you im one hundred percent ok, will you calm down and let me explain?" Nodding my family moved for me to show them. I moved my coat and croptop to show where the wound was. "See, I can see almost all the way through you we need to -" i cut my mom off, "Just watch." As i said that, the wound began hurriedly patching itself up over the span of about five seconds, till there wasn't even a scar left of the gaping chest wound.
"See guys im fine I only let Qrow hit me to show you guys that, I'll be fine at Beacon and two I regenerate nearly instantly, plus it was a little funny to spook you guys," i finished my sentence mischievously. My family had different reactions, my uncle content he didn't just kill his long lost niece let out a sigh of relief and downed the rest of his flask, my father just looked relieved and put his hand over his heart as if a weight had been removed from it, my mom ran at me as fast as her legs could carry her and just hugged me crying, which I kinda felt bad for, and I started to pet her hair to let her know I was ok. The only one who hadn't moved was yang, whose eyes were covered by her hair.
Suddenly, the clearing exploded in a wave of heat. "Ruby Rose!" she yelled, starting to stomp over to me. Her eyes are now a very angry red, "If you ever make me think you died again! I swear I will crawl through the after-life to make your unlife a living hell!" she yelled, now full on sprinting. Realizing the danger I was in, i bolted, leaving my mom shocked at what was happening. "Hey, wait, Yang, c'mon, it was a joke, theres no need to try and actually kill me for it!" I yelled, running away. "I won't kill you, you'll just wish you were dead!"C'mon put the tree down, and we can talk about thi- I didn't mean on top of me!"
Twenty minutes of me running for my life and Yang trying to beat me senseless ended in one way, me tied to a tree with knots on my head, "I know i said I regenerate fast but I still feel pain you know," I mumbled. "Good, next time, think about that before you make me think you died again," Yang said clearly, not over my prank. I paused for a minute, 'I guess that was kinda mean, I should apologize." I look up at her, "Hey Yang?" I asked. "What!" she said, irritated. "I'm sorry, i probably shouldn't have shown you guys that way. It was a little much," I said, feeling remorseful. Yang looked thoughtfully at my words, "I accept your apology, but please dont leave me again," she said, hugging me tightly. "Can I be untied now and where did you even get the rope?" I asked. "Not yet, and I keep it on me, never know when it'll come in handy,"
Finally, free of my bindings, we made our way back to our yard and home as it was getting late. "So Yang?" I asked, trying to start a conversation. "Whats up?" she asked, looking at me as we walked peacfully home. "So i noticed back there that your eyes changed color, was that a part of your semblance?" "Yeah it was, I unlocked it that day we were separated," she answered a little awkwardly at the end. "So what does it do?" I asked, trying to ignore the flashes of what little memory I had of that day. "Well, it's a two parter, the angrier I get, the more heat and fire are produced, while the other part is, the more i take damage wise the stronger I hit back, up to ten times the amount of the attack I got hit with."
She then looked at me and asked, "What about you rubes, I know you said that doppelganger wasn't your semblance, but im curious to what is?" she asked, largely curious. I mulled over, actually telling her the truth about my abilities, but decided to tell part of it, "Yang, can you keep a secret, like from everyone, including our family?" She stopped walking with me and looked at me and mulled it over. She looked at me with sincerity.
"I dont know why I have to, but for you Rubes of course." she said. I gave her a little relieved smile and said, "To tell you the truth, I... I dont have any Aura, my abilities come from something different entirely," Her eyes widened comically, and she said, "You're not pulling my leg here?" she looked at me skeptically. "Nope, and I'll prove it," I said, pulling my sword out. "So if I had aura even if it was broke earlier, it should be regenerated enough to repel a single blow, at least, right?" I explained. She nodded, watching intently. I then stabbed myself in the hand with the tip of my blade and moved my hand, palm up, to show her. She looks at the cut as it heals almost instantly. "I dont know what happened that day, but when we were... separated, I awoke a day later in vacuo with no memory of how i got there and the ability to regenerate nearly instantaneously, among other things, like that doppelganger and my white hair." I said a little fearful of her reaction. She looked at me in shock for a little while before she hugged me firmly.
As we parted from our hug, she looked at me curiously, "Ruby, you mentioned you had other powers. What do they do?" I mulled over, telling her about the rest of my skills, " Well, most of them augment my abilities with weapons, allowing me to break conventional means, like that move i pulle by throwing my sword and having it come back," She nodded in understanding. "Well, Gunslinger and swordmaster augment my gun and sword styles, respectively, Trickster allows me to dash and doge my way through attacks and even close gaps by teleporting, and the last of the main four is royal guard, which its easier to show than explain.
Taking a pose and then mostioning for her to come at me, Yang, ran at me and tried to punched me with it being deflected. She then let out a simple combo of hits, each never connecting. "That's really broken, sis," she said after a whistle. "Well, that's not all it can do. Every hit I block or deflect with it can be dished back out twice as hard or ten times if i time it right," I said. Yang then proceeded to curl up on the ground with a little rain cloud above her head, mumbling about overpowered and copycat little sisters. Rolling my eyes and dragging her to her feet, I say, "Come on, you big baby, let's go home." She suddenly asked, "Wait, you mentioned you had four main styles. Does that mean you have more?" I put her down and smirked, I then snapped my fingers, and time slowed to a crawl, then to a stop. I moved two feet over and poked her head. Then, I snapped my fingers unstopping time, watching as she only saw me disappear and reappear to my left as well as feeling a tap on her forehead. Looking at me in shock, waiting for me to explaine she stumbled. "It's called Quicksilver, and it allows me to stop time for a bit, with more uses, it gets progressively shorter and weaker until i can rest," I stated. "Y-you can stop time?!" she shouted in shock. "Yep," I said, smirking and popping the p. "You saw the other style earlier called doppelganger, and it allows me to make a construct that copies my moves and can act on its own" I continued.
My sister decided she'd had enough excitement jokingly said, "Let's get home im hungry, and you're just making it worse." Looking at her and smirking, i said, "Race ya there!" Taking off as fast as I could. "Hey, no fair!" she shouted, running after me. What neither of us noticed was a red eyed raven that had been watching us, caw and fly away.
