This is going to be a part of a series, but until I have all the other one-shots gathered together and organised, we have to live with what I've got and that's this. Only briefly edited, so there may be mistakes, let me know

Natasha had called for Skye to come down but the newest member of their family, hadn't appeared so Natasha had gone up to find her. She knocked on the door and pushed it open and instantly noticed Skye curled up crying into her pillow.

"Skye, what's wrong?" Natasha asked hurriedly moving over to sit on the bed next to her new sister. Skye just shook her head refusing to even look at Natasha which was an instead red flag for the teenager. "Hey, you can talk to me." Natasha urged putting a hand on Skye's back.

"They're going to be angry." Skye whimpered as she turned her head to look at Natasha. "Who, Mom and Dad?" Natasha asked as she rubbed a hand across Skye's tear-strained cheeks. "I'm in lots of trouble." Skye cried and Natasha frowned because her parents hadn't let her know that Skye had got into trouble and that's definitely something they would have informed her of, considering how quickly the youngster had bonded with her.

"Why?" Natasha asked, curious, just in case this was something Skye was imagining was going to happen. "I got in trouble in school." She admitted and Natasha frowned. Skye had been with them for nearly 2 months and she didn't seem like the type to get in trouble in school, she was too scared and meek for that.

"What happened?" She asked gently as she shuffled closer to the young girl and Skye just buried her head in the pillow, shaking her head. "Skye if you don't tell me I can't help." Natasha urged and Skye continued to shake her head. "Maybe it's not as bad as you think." Natasha wondered and she watched as Skye slowly rolled over and looked up at Natasha.

"I punched someone," Skye said softly and Natasha was shocked. "Wow, didn't expect that." She admitted aloud and Skye grabbed her pillow and hugged it to her chest. "See." She urged and Natasha sighed and reached down to take one of Skye's hands into hers.

"Hey, no it's fine. I get into fights all the time." Natasha explained and Skye just started tearing up again. "Skye, sometimes we mess up and that's okay. We're human." Natasha said trying to make Skye see, that it wasn't the end of the world.

"But I always get sent away when I'm bad." Skye cried out this time and the lightbulb went off for Natasha, she shuffled to sit next to Skye and pulled the young girl into her arms. "No, you won't Skye I promise. You're not going to be sent away, because you messed up one time. I do it all the time and I'm still here." Natasha mumbled as she stroked her hand through Skye's hair.

They were interrupted by a knocking on the bedroom door and they both looked over to see Phil and Melinda standing there watching them. "Natasha, can we talk to Skye alone for a minute," Phil asked and Natasha untangled herself from Skye, and leaned down and kissed on the brow. "Don't worry kiddo, you're going to be fine. I promise." Natasha says and climbs off the bed and heads out of the room, getting a quick hug from Melinda.

The adults approached the bed and Skye broke down again. "I'm sorry. Please don't send me back." She cried and they stopped, staring at her, before they sat on the bed, either side of her. "Skye?" Phil questioned gently as Melinda wrapped an arm around her. "Honey, we're not going to send you anywhere," Melinda promised as Skye turned to cry into her shoulder.

"But I was bad. I'm no good trouble." Skye cried and Melinda and Phil shared a look at the statement. "You're not trouble Skye," Melinda said softly, kissing the top of her head for reassurance. "You made a bad decision and we're going to talk about it but we're not sending you away, you're not going anywhere, sweetheart" Phil explained running a calming hand up and down her back.

Skye stopped crying for a moment and lifted her head to look between them. "You're not?" She asked and Phil smiled at her sadly. "No. We're not. Not now, not ever." Phil admitted and Skye looked from him to Melinda for confirmation. "We chose you, Skye. Bad decisions and all. There's nothing you can do, that will make us not want you." Melinda promised and Skye buried her head and started to cry. This time in relief and not fear.

"So do you want to tell us about this fight?" Phil asked and Skye just shook her head and Melinda had to grin at Phil over her head. "Well, you're going to have to. But maybe we can go and have some food first?" Phil offered and Skye lifted her head to look at him nervously and nodded slowly and he smiled. "Good."

He rose from the bed and moved to open the bedroom door to find Natasha leaning against the wall waiting. Melinda followed him, with Skye still clinging to her. "You're a good big sister, Natasha," Phil says as he hooks an arm over Natasha's shoulders and leads the way back down to the kitchen. Skye won't trust them overnight, but eventually, she'll believe that they do love her and do want her, until then, they'll stay patient and work calmly with her. They've done it before, they'll do it again.
