Around 2 weeks have passed since Euler's injection of deviant blood cells into his system. It was morning, and Violet had dressed herself in business casual attire for the next commission that she would do. This commission was from Dr. Han for his seminar, who requested a doll to record the core content of their seminar and release the document for public access.
She walked out and met Henry who was ready to go to his work as well. "Morning, Violet. Is something special happening today?"
"Yes, the commission I've received had certain dress code, so with the advice of my colleagues, I chose this."
"I think it looks good. That being said, this commission is for that Dr. Han guy, right? It must feel awkward to work for a guy that practically ruined your friend, Euler's life."
"I know what you mean, but a doll has a principle to live by. I'm afraid I can't get my personal feelings interfering in my work. Sorry if I'm pestering you too much, but have you heard anything from Euler yet?"
"No luck I'm afraid. Though a couple days ago, some of our prosthetic limb materials got stolen. But we have no idea how they got stolen. No doors or windows were broken, yet they disappeared. All the stocks were accounted for before I closed the shop, so then what happened?"
"I'm sorry to hear that. It does sound quite mysterious though. I wish you luck in finding out the truth."
"Thanks. Anyway, good luck to you too in that commission. See you later."
Meanwhile, Euler was at his workshop now. He put on a bodysuit designed as a means of transmitting nerve signals between his muscles, and the synthetic muscle of the suit he designed. He backed into a wall that had his suit's generator attached, then connected the generator to his back augment. Then he attached pieces of suit one at a time, feeling burst of strength for each piece attached. After the suit was put on, he wore largest sized clothes with sunglasses and mask to make sure he did not stand out.
Euler took a look at his sketching of his plan one last time; when Dr. Han and his colleagues finished their seminar and exited the building, Euler will be waiting by the roof of another faculty building. He'll then fire his electromagnetic powered pistol to Dr. Han and his colleagues. This pistol was designed to be precise and accurate unlike a normal pistol. After the job was done, he would quickly leave the scene with the help of his suit that gave him immense strength.
"They will always be a thorn in my sides. If I ever dare to try to take spotlight, they'll somehow find a way to make me a villain again, not to mention that they know me enough for me to make suits like this. This is why they must die, then I'll have no one to interfere me ever again." Euler then glanced at his radiation therapy device that was rejected. "Besides, if the world won't judge them for practically killing my master, then I will judge them, even for the sake of master." Then packing his other supplies, Euler departed as well.
The seminar started in a very large assembly room, with a mixture of academic people and some regular people who happened to be interested. Violet's instruction from the commissioners was to start recording their speech when the texts were bolded on the projector; everything else that contained too many technical terminologies or too complex concepts for the public reader were to be skipped.
Near the end of the seminar, Dr. Madison passed on the speech right to Dr. Han, who seemed especially enthusiastic. "We're very pleased to present to you our idea to combat cancer at a later stage. Until now, a primitive method of removing cancer cells through surgery before it's at its spreading stage was the only cure. But now, no more lives have to be lost from cancer being discovered at its spreading stage."
The next page was put on a projector. A sketch of machinery with a patient was shown. The shapes and looks of the machinery were different, yet upon looking, Violet felt a faint sense of familiarity with Euler's radiation therapy device. "We would like to present an External Ray therapy machinery, a clean therapy designed to eliminate cancer tumors through a ray without a need of surgery." Dr. Han continued. "You of course would want to discover cancer at an early stage rather than later. Nevertheless, the therapy will feel as if light's warmth is healing you; you just lie down and let the miracle happen, and you won't feel the pain." The audience listened with awe of this new therapy.
The next page of the projector showed complex sketches and terminologies, so Violet didn't have to write at that moment. However, she recognized such terminologies from the time she worked for Euler. The core of the machine that produced the "external ray" for the treatment was very similar to what Euler had. The nouns such as "protons", "neutrons", and "electrons", which was main part of Euler's radiation therapy, were recognizable as well. As Dr. Han continued to explain the details behind the physics of the therapy, Violet came to a conclusion to herself that this therapy, belonged to Euler.
Violet stared at Dr. Han and colleagues for a while. "Is this truly the same therapy that you called 'dangerous'? Isn't this the same therapy that you've called to be on the level of an atomic bomb radiation?" she thought. They used the words "external ray" and "light's warmth" to describe their version, while Euler's version was called to be radioactive and radical. Violet frowned upon the fact that two truths that shouldn't coexist had somehow become a reality and was the first time that she witnessed the art of lying using the truth.
The seminar was finished, and refreshments were provided before officially ending the event. Many people conversed with Dr. Han and his colleagues, asking any lingering questions or admiring them. Whenever one of two has happened, they were very delighted and enthusiastic. A while later, Dr. Rush invited Violet to join their conversation.
"How are you doing, Miss Evergarden? I hope the event is to your liking."
"I'm doing quite well, thank you. I'm just not used to navigating around this environment nor the intellectual conversation, that's all."
"You've done an exceptional job today, Miss Evergarden. Although we allowed you to skip some of more complicated terminologies, keeping up with a scientific talk and recording them down is something to be proud of." Dr. Han said.
"Think nothing of it, Dr. Han. I've only done as a doll should've done."
"What did you think of our external ray therapy machinery, Miss Evergarden? It's our proudest breakthrough yet that radically changes the game for cancer treatment." Dr. Grant said.
"Ah, yes, the radiation therapy. It truly is marvelous, Dr. Grant." Violet responded.
A brief silence from Dr. Han's group was present before Dr. Madison spoke. "No, no, Miss Violet, an external ray therapy. Don't get it mixed up with Euler's controversial therapy."
"Then do you admit, that use of protons, electrons, and neutrons to concentrate the on the patient's tumor is as devastating as the radiation from the atomic bomb?"
"N-Nonsense, Miss Evergarden. With all due respect, you're greatly mistaken. The radiation from the atomic bomb is uncontrolled and damages the whole human body, yet Euler thought he could defy laws of nature and arrogantly present it as a breakthrough." Dr. Han said.
Violet said. "I see then. As a doll who has assisted Euler Pierce in his thesis, it seems like you find my memory to be very unreliable if I remember his thesis' topic to be the same as yours. If this presents an issue to you, I propose to hire a more reliable doll in the future."
Dr. Han, Grant, and Madison had nothing to say for a moment. "Well, all's forgiven, Miss Evergarden." Dr. Han said. "A simplistic mindset is out of your control if you weren't schooled, that's all." Then the three left them.
"I'm…very sorry for how my colleagues behaved, Miss Evergarden. They've never been the same ever since Euler resigned." Dr. Rush said.
"No, I should perhaps apologize myself if I've let my bias for Euler influence my words. I know it may seem odd that a doll cares about her past client, but what happened to Euler has made me very upset."
"You've nothing to apologize for, Miss Evergarden. I'll make sure to put in good word for you if they ever hold this against you."
It was time for the whole event to be over and the crowd to exit the building. Euler has already put himself on the roof of another faculty building. He put on the helmet of the suit, pulled out his electromagnetic pistol, and loaded it. He also put some grenades on his belt in case something happened. Upon looking down, the surge of nervousness and adrenaline took him for what he was about to do. Sensing emotional instability, Euler took another pill of lithium carbonate.
He saw Dr. Han exiting the building. Euler took position and aimed his pistol at Dr. Han's head. His hand sweated from all kinds of emotions he was feeling, then his hand trembled as well. "Come on," Euler thought to himself, taking a deep breath. "I can't let fear stop me now. Pull the trigger!" Swallowing hard, Euler let his index finger pull, and the shot was fired.
Dr. Han's head was pierced, and he fell to the ground. The crowd immediately panicked and were thrown in disarray. Euler's heartbeat became intense, and a surge of adrenaline came to him. He shakily aimed at Dr. Madison, but he missed his vitals. Annoyed by his sensitive nature, he took another shot and finished Dr. Madison.
Meanwhile, Violet was shocked at first at sudden death of Dr. Han. But she began to concentrate in spite of the chaos, and deducted the location of the high ground the shooter was shooting from. Leaving her suitcase behind, Violet hastily navigated her way through the panicking crowd and went inside the building Euler was on top of.
Euler had reloaded after hastily finishing off Dr. Grant. "One more left, then the job will be finished." But just as Euler took aim, he heard a loud banging and a sound of a door being violently opened. Because his brain processed information faster than a normal human, he turned his head around immediately at the sound and was about to shoot. But it great surprised him to see Violet charging towards him at terrifyingly fast speed.
Violet immediately closed the distance and delivered a moderately powered punch, then she was caught off-guard by a loud clanging sound as well as the fact that the shooter was knocked back only slightly. Before she could process what had happened, she was pushed back with great force. The shooter took aim at Violet again, but she once again swiftly dodged the shots and delivered more powerful punches this time.
From Euler's point, he was constantly frustrated that he saw her punches coming, yet couldn't get his arms to react fast enough, as he wasn't prepared to face this situation. He was slowly getting back to the edge as he received constant blows from Violet. Euler managed to get one more pushback on Violet and shot her again, but it proved futile as well, and determined that even reloading was pointless.
Euler managed to get one hold of Violet's arm after many beatings, and pushed her away again, but this time he quickly ran away and jumped to the nearest roof and continued to jump roof to roof. Every landing he made was sloppy and slowed him down bit by bit. Violet, who was chasing him down, grew closer and closer to him.
"Stop there now!" Violet yelled. "Tell me who you are and why you're doing this!"
Euler was jumping from residential apartments now, and knew it was only a matter of time before Violet caught up to him. He hastily thought of a plan amidst such intense moment, and pulled out a grenade. If he throws the grenade by a roof and explodes by the time he jumped off, it will force Violet to slow down, and give him more time.
Euler took out a grenade, but in a highly tense and nervous state, he didn't make sure to pull out the pin off the grenade completely. When Euler threw it, it was also on a trajectory to roll off the roof as well. "Damn it! No!" he thought. As he jumped off the roof, the grenade hit the edge of the roof, unpinning the grenade in process, and then dropped down near the balcony of a woman holding a baby.
The grenade exploded between the wall and foundation of the balcony. The balcony dangled on a wall, causing it to be on the verge of being torn off from the building. The woman screamed, clutching on to her baby on one arm while grabbing onto the dangling balcony.
Violet had jumped over the balcony by the time the grenade exploded. Then she heard the woman scream and calling for help. Violet quickly looked down, and her heart was wrenched at the sight of woman struggling with her crying baby. The balcony was making a strained creaking noise, giving a sign that it was about to fall off. Violet glanced towards the direction of Euler who was running away and became conflicted.
The balcony snapped off the wall and the woman started to fall. Violet spontaneously made the decision to jump and save the woman. She landed on a low level balcony, then leaped again to catch the woman who was falling. She softly landed on the ground.
"Are you okay?" Violet asked.
"I-I think I'm okay. I can't thank you enough, you've saved life and my child as well!"
"I'm so glad that I made it in time." Violet said with a smile.
Meanwhile, Euler had run for quite a while, then noticed that Violet wasn't chasing him anymore. He wondered why she had given up on her pursuit of him. He recalled that as he was jumping off, he saw for a split second that the grenade was on a trajectory towards a woman. In between the time he heard the explosion until now, Violet stopped chasing him at some point.
"Assuming the explosion hasn't killed the woman, could it be that Violet has gone down to save her?" Euler then got down from the building and himself within back alley where there were no people. Euler removed his helmet and put on the sunglasses and mask again. He then made his way back home to think of a next plan.
