A little over a week has passed since Violet has visited Euler. Currently, she was around the edge of city of Leiden and has just finished the commission for her client. She first had written some documents for Egon Pierce as his work has been becoming busier than usual, then on a last day, Mary worked with Violet to write a letter to Euler. They hoped that a patent office would be kind enough to send to Euler, where they would certainly have his address.
"Thank you very much for the work you've done, Violet." Mary said.
"Don't mention it, I've only done my duty as a doll."
"You know, the way Euler changed had me in such a mixed emotion, that I couldn't really think of how to express them. But you seem to completely understand my feelings of being heartbroken by someone you love changing for the worse. I think you're allowed to take pride in comprising a letter to my satisfaction."
"It's only because…I completely sympathize with you, Mrs. Pierce. I considered Euler to be my friend, but he seems to reject me, and I share your frustration and sadness to some extent."
"No need to be so humble Violet. It is enough for me that you've cared to put in my husband and my feeling in the letter with integrity and authenticity." Mary then held the letter by her chest. "I know that Euler's reputation is on the rise now, and it's a good thing…But does it truly matter if he has rejected the ones that care for him?...I'm sorry, I won't hold you here anymore with my loud thoughts."
"I hope the letter reaches to him, and I wish you best of luck, Mrs. Pierce."
As Violet was walking her way to the public transport, she thought about Euler's sudden behavior change. She remembered that Euler did indeed try to release his typewriter to honor her, but after being slandered, he considered Violet's philosophy futile. But that didn't seem to be convincing, for Euler was never against Violet's presence itself when she visited him, nor any conflict started when she talked about emotions with Euler.
Where it fell apart was regarding Undying One. Euler sternly told her to never fight Undying One again, but she could not tell whether the intent was for her safety or not. His reasoning was mainly for his own plan with the police force, which normally wasn't enough to offend her. But for the first time, Euler, who was known to have exceptionally high intellect, made a very unpersuasive argument to her. When she tried to clarify, she was only insulted as a simpleton.
"I can't make any sense of it…" she said to herself. "Have I unintentionally displayed my incompetence, or worse, wronged him? Would it truly have gone better if I had let him go in the first place? Other may say I've done nothing wrong, but the more I think on it, more uneasy I'm becoming…I just don't have the courage to believe that Euler is that type of person to abandon someone like that…If Euler is experiencing an emotion I've never encountered, how I wish I could comprehend it."
Suddenly, a distant glass shattering noise was heard, and Violet instantly turned towards the direction of the sound. She was able to catch a man flying through the air, breaking into a glass wall of another building on a lower level. She immediately ran towards the scene.
The place was the patent office of the Leiden city, and Undying One has infiltrated it. With his strength, he immediately threw around tables to barricade the doors. "Give me here the new registered address of Euler Pierce now!" he yelled amongst the disarray of the employees, and Violet heard it from the bottom.
This time, thinking about the concern from others, Violet showed some hesitation, more so for a worry that it may offend Euler if she intervened.
Undying One looked around and noticed Connor Caulfield among the workers. "You!" Undying One yelled at Connor. "You look like someone who would know." He grabbed her by her shirt and lifted her up.
"Please! I don't know anything! I swear!" Connor yelled as she struggled.
The cry from her ached Violet's heart, and Violet felt conflicted; to intervene, or to trust that police force with Euler's help could do something.
"You lie! Don't think that I won't kill you here right this instance!" Undying One shouted as he raised his fist. "I know you have his new address! His annoying new door locks are such a hinderance! And if they are everywhere now, he must've patented it!"
"I…I…" Connor hesitated.
"I'm giving you 5 seconds to decide!"
Violet once again put down her suitcase and bent her knees. If Euler's new address was released, he would be in danger once again. But should the woman refuse and die, Violet anticipated that a regret would haunt her. Taking a deep breath, Violet jumped up high. As Undying One readied to blow a punch, Violet jumped and kicked him from the side, making him stumble.
"Go to somewhere safe! I'll hold him off!" Violet said to everyone. The employees moved the barricade out of the door and evacuated. Connor gave a quick glance at Violet before leaving. "…Thank you very much…" she said. Then she left with the group as well.
Undying One got up and faced towards Violet in her fighting stance. "You again. Violet was your name, was it? Such a nuisance you were at the Leiden University."
"I don't know why you're doing this, but I won't let you take anymore lives or harm anyone else."
"Hmph, you don't have what it takes to beat me. I've only let you go that time because I had no time to waste with you."
"Wishful thinking, Undying One. I've had the upper hand that time. I have the full power to stop you from taking anymore lives for good."
"We shall see about that!" Then Undying One initiated a fight.
Violet blocked the punches Undying One made. As before, the strange phenomena of him being able to throw out threatening punches, yet having a sloppy fighting stance caught her attention. Then Violet threw out a counterattack on him, but unlike last time, he reacted to it. It threw her off guard, and she received a punch in a face. She backed off quickly for distance.
"What's wrong? Scared now that the fight isn't going your way?" Undying One taunted.
Letting out grunt of frustration, Violet initiated her own flurry of attacks on him. However, most of her attacks were blocked by Undying One's reactions. While fighting, Violet was bewildered how anyone could take a bad and sloppy fighting stance, yet somehow be able react to the attacks.
Out of a surprise, Undying One unsheathed his wrist blades, and swung. Violet heard the sharp, unsheathing noise, and backed off. Surge of nervousness came to Violet as she was losing more advantages she thought she had. As Undying One approached her arrogantly with his wrist blade, someone with megaphone spoke.
"Attention, Undying One! This is the task force of city of Leiden! We have secured a perimeter around the building! Surrender now, or we'll have to shoot you!" Both glanced outside the broken window, and the police task force was positioned outside with the rifles. Undying One saw that some were carrying the electromagnetic pistols as well. Within a span of a second, he thought of a plan.
Undying One ran and jumped down to a nearest sidewalk, which Violet followed. When Undying One landed, the police task force aimed their rifles to shoot, but Violet also landed in between their line of sight. Then Violet and Undying One exchanged attacked with each other, blocking and dodging. They both moved around very quickly, but Undying One moved to make sure there were buildings beside them and moving away from the task force.
The task force meanwhile struggled to keep up with them. The ones with electromagnetic pistol tried to get a good aim on Undying One, yet a constant movement between Violet and Undying One not only made it difficult, but Violet often got in their line of sight as well. Whenever they moved forward to get a better shot, Undying One constantly backed off and Violet mindlessly pursuit him, repeating the same scenario.
Finally, the officer spoke through the megaphone. "Lady! Please, with all due respect, we can't shoot him with you in the way! Let us handle him as the police task force!"
Upon hearing it, Violet realized her neglect of the police force behind her. She bent her knee and jumped up to one of shop's roof in hopes of giving the police force the line of sight and planned to observe the situation.
However, upon seeing her bend her knees to jump, Undying One reacted to it. He immediately pulled out a grenade while taking cover inside a nearest building. Then he threw the grenade to a tall, streetlight that he could see, and blew up the foundation.
The police force heard the loud, creaking sound of the streetlight about to fall on them. They scattered to avoid it, and their formation was broken. Using this as a distraction, Undying One turned a corner and started to run.
"He's getting away! After him!" the police yelled.
Violet momentarily felt some guilt after what had happened. However, seeing the task force scrambling to get on their vehicle, Violet wasted no time to also run and pursuit Undying One. As she pursuit him, she saw that his running speed gave her run for the money. Violet dedicated more energy into running than she did during her war time, and her pursuit led her to a distant part of the city that was significantly far from the police force.
Once Undying One saw that he ran a considerable distance from the police, he entered into a high-income residential apartment, and quickly did series of jumps upstairs. His plan was to establish early high ground. What he didn't expect though, was Violet being able to jump her way up the stairs more effectively. As Undying One looked downstairs, he was confronted with Violet jump kicking to his head.
Undying One regained his stance and the fighting continued in the hallway of the apartment. This time, Undying One adapted to the pattern of Violet and found more openings to swing his blade at her, forcing her to block with her prosthetic arm. The sound of blade clashing the metal was heard constantly as their fight led them towards the elevator. As Violet blocked one blade swing, the metal coating on her finger chipped off, revealing the synthetic muscles. Realizing the situation, Violet changed her tactics and mixed in some kicking.
One strong kick pushed Undying One back a little despite blocking. Then he heard an elevator chime, indicating the elevator was here. He backed off and quickly opened the outer door, then opened the slider door of the elevator.
Upon seeing him open the door, Violet leaped towards him. "No! I won't let you do that!" The two found themselves inside an elevator now. There a man with his little son happened to be there.
"Stay behind me! I'll make sure you get out of here safe!" Violet said to them. She continued the fight with Undying One, and she landed some punches to Undying One. Though this elevator was more spacious than conventional ones, there was still not enough space that it made his wrist blade a hinderance.
Unsheathing his blade, Undying One glanced towards the little son who was exposed behind Violet. Then he decided to test Violet by directing his kick to the son. Violet reacted and blocked his kick with her own leg, but the kick hit her shin, and spike of pain made her grunt. The elevator reached the top floor.
Undying One continued to direct his attacks behind Violet, and as she constantly blocked, she received few attacks from him as well. The man behind made sense of the situation, so he grabbed his son and hugged him tight, then put his back against Violet's.
"Don't worry about us now! I'll keep up with you!" he said to Violet. Then Undying One kept attempting to aim for the man, yet less of the man was exposed, and upon repositioning to try to hit him, Undying One was punished by Violet's attacks. The man continued to keep his back to Violet's this way and kept up with her. The fight was getting nowhere for Undying One and he let out growl of frustration. The elevator was going down now.
Then Undying One thought of a plan. He hypothesized that in this recently built apartment, the elevator is designed with latest blueprint where it is operated on a pulley with counterweight. One end of cable is attached to the lift, while other end of cable is attached to the counterweight. He planned to break down the elevator wall and find the steel cable to the counterweight; even if his hypothesis was false, there was still room for compromise in his escape.
With full force, Undying One hit the wall behind him a few times before it broke down.
"What are you doing?!" Violet yelled.
Undying One then jumped to grab on to the cable supporting the counterweight. He slid down to the bottom of the cable where the pulley was lifting the counterweight currently. Violet looked down and heard his taunting shout. "So long, Violet!" Then he kicked the pulley off the counterweight. The counterweight plunged down, causing severe imbalance in weight and Violet's elevator was dropping down at an alarming speed, meanwhile Undying One was lifted up with the cable at the same speed.
"Lie down on your back!" Violet shouted. But the man was too panicked to process Violet's callout while the boy was crying. Though Violet took no pleasure in it, she forcefully tripped a man to make him lie on him his back, but controlled his fall to make sure he didn't get injured. Then she took the boy, had herself lie on the back, then had him lie on his back on top of her. Just as she was done, the elevator hit the bottom with a loud crash.
The dust cleared, and Violet got up with groans of great pain. "Are you alright?" she asked the boy, though she couldn't get a response because he was still crying. "How about you, sir?" she asked the man.
"Ugh, I may have broken a place or two, but what matters is that I'm alive…Thanks for saving our lives…"
Violet stood up, enduring immense pain, and looked up to where Undying One has risen towards. The man noticed tears coming down from her, yet her face was filled with anger. Then she looked down, wearing a sorrowful face. "I'm sorry…If only I could've take him down for good, none of this would've happened…"
