A/N: I'm writing this story because I wanted to do something Fate related. Gambit was fun and all, but I've evolved as a writer since then and there are a lot of mistakes I made there that pretty much made the story unsalvageable. As for why this is Naruto based? Well, Naruto is a series I know more than any other and that's one of the issues I ran into with DxD. I just wasn't familiar enough with the plot. But Naruto? I can recite it with my eyes closed.
Secondly, I see a lot of Naruto fanfics where Naruto gets a new power, yes, but the trade off is that it's a neglect fic. Rest assured, No Minato or Kushina bashing here. No character bashing period, really. Except Danzo. Danzo is always an exception.
So, without further adieu, let us jump into this story.
The moment Naruto opened the Scroll of Sealing, two Jutsu jumped out at him. The Shadow Clone Jutsu and The Summon Servant Jutsu. He'd never heard of either. Though he supposed the former was just a more advanced form of the Clone Jutsu. Heh. That was perfect! He didn't need the lame normal version anyways! He was Naruto Uzumaki, Future Hokage!
Now, most might think he wouldn't be able to read the scroll, on account of his poor grades. But he was actually a lot smarter than he appeared to be. The teachers - who weren't Iruka - always gave him failing grades and never bothered to help him understand the subject matter. But Old Man Teuchi had taught him how to read and he picked it up quickly. He had the basics, just no proper guidance. And the fact that he barely got any respect made him slack off a lot.
Though for a Future Hokage, maybe that attitude was counter-intuitive. But he was getting sidetracked. He had to learn these two Jutsu and then he could pass Mizuki-sensei's secret test!
He wasn't surprised that it was a trap. Most people didn't like him after all. But learning he was the Demon Fox was for sure an eye opener. Definitely explained a lot. The insults the man was throwing at him were honestly nothing new though. What was new was Iruka-sensei standing up for him. Those words. That kindness. It touched Naruto in a whole new way. So when that Mizuki bastard tried hurting his beloved sensei, something in Naruto snapped.
He slammed into the man and glared at him, his chakra flaring in response to his emotions. "If you dare lay another hand on Iruka-sensei, I'll kill you!"
Mizuki just wore his typical smug face. "Kill me? You're just an Academy dropout. I'm a Chunin. There's no way you can win, you stupid demon fox."
It was like he was a wind up toy with stock catchphrases. Couldn't he come up with something better? Still, the dropout one really got under his skin for some reason.
"You know," the blond haired boy said as he jumped down to the forest floor and landed gracefully. "I was going to try out a super duper neat technique I just mastered. One that would totally beat your butt. But just because you called me a dropout, I'm going to use something else. I got the jist of it down, but I haven't tried yet. But hey, you just volunteered to be a test dummy. So let's see how this works out!"
He bit his thumb and performed the hand seals he'd memorized to perfection and slammed his hand on the ground.
"Summon Servant Jutsu!" he yelled as a blinding white light overtook the entire forest. It was like a miniature sun had gone off. Did he do it wrong?
"Servant Assassin," a young girl's voice called out, dispelling his rapidly forming negative thoughts. "Shall we cut him up, Mommy?"
Standing in front of him was a short white haired girl wearing a tattered black cloak. Two daggers could clearly be seen in her hands. And boy, did she radiate bloodlust. Like, Sasuke on a bad day levels of bloodlust. And what was that about calling him Mommy?
Mizuki looked like he'd seen a ghost, but to Naruto's begrudging respect, he schooled his expression in record time. "So you learned some kind of fancy summoning technique. Big deal! What's this pipsqueak gonna do?!"
Naruto rubbed his chin. The girl seemed eager to obey his orders. He'd heard about summons and how they could make loyal allies. He just never thought they'd be so humanoid. Most would think he'd be far more hotheaded about this and just jump right into the battle alongside his summon, but pranking and an actual battle were two different things. He'd survived too many beatings to let his arrogance get the best of him now.
"Assassin," he said. "Make that bastard regret he was ever born!"
The girl giggled. It sent chills down his spine if he were honest. "Okay, Mommy!"
Of all the things he'd prepared for today, seeing his student perform a forbidden jutsu - one said to have only been utilized by the First Hokage no less - and beat up a Chunin was not one of them. The only thing he was grateful for was that Naruto had the tact to call his summon back before she dealt the killing blow. Mizuki still needed to be interrogated after all. Still, looking over his wounds, that girl did not go gentle. He hadn't seen someone cut up this badly since, well, the Uchiha Massacre. Thank goodness she was a summon. The last thing they needed was another Itachi.
Either way, Naruto had more than proved himself. Especially after he showed off the Shadow Clone Jutsu just to spite poor Mizuki. Naruto was definitely Genin level now, if not slightly above it. He'd always known the boy was smarter than he appeared, but this cemented it.
"Naruto, come here" he said with a smile as he untied his forehead protector. "I've got something for you."
Servants were weird, Naruto decided as he headed home, Assassin humming a tune as she walked beside him. She may have been a super scary killing machine that was also super duper strong, but she was also just a child. She was curious, energetic and now that there was no enemy, really sweet. She still called him Mommy though. He didn't stop her though. Mostly because he got the same vibe from her that he got every time he looked in the mirror.
She was alone. And her reaction to him saying she could sleep in the bed with him that night only proved that. She basically latched onto him like he was a lifeline.
And as he lay in bed with a snoozing Assassin cuddled into his side, he could only smile.
He definitely made the right choice in learning that jutsu. Not only did it get him a powerful companion, it got him a little sister too.
